I bought it from this dealer and he'll probably let it go for 400.
The DAC in the Transporter is very nice, I like it better than the
Touch. I was looking at used Touch units but decided to
get this. If all you use is the digital output you might be better off
with a SB3. I like the DAC in the D
So is there any advantage to be had over an SB3 if using the digital
output?
I always thought they were sharp units, with the rack appropriate form
factor and the dual VFDs. But for me, $1k was a bit much to chase
bleeding edge quality, given the wide range in the quality of source
material.

light reflection on the turned front face of the knob, it looks exactly
like the metal knobs on vintage 1970s hifif.

still operating after a decade or more. The only issue for some was the
common PSU issue, which can easily be swapped. In the Player/Display
settings make sure Power Off Brightness is set to 0 (Dark).

For those not liking the looks of the Transporter without knob, why not
find a suitable knob and stick it on over the blanking plate.

How about using Powerline-adapters, for example Netgear?
I use 6 of them instead of ethernet cables all over the house for years
now and they work flawlessly. The better ones nowadays have an AC
outlet, speed up to 1200Mbit, powersaving and 2 Gigabit ports. Solves
all the problems with rooms that
