Hi! I am having some difficulty in setting up my lab
at home, and need some good advice. I have two pc's,
2 routers, and one switch. I just want to work on the
routers for now, though. Just established a network

A question. What is the practical lab setup that I should look into to
prepare for the CCNP/CCIE configurations and labs. I am looking on the
cheap. Models, modules, and IOS versions would be a great help. Also I am
hearing different tunes about where to purchase used equipment. Sugge

back-to-back. Seeing how your home lab setup will not be (at least it
shouldn't be) connected to the internet, feel free to inject as many routes
as you wish while you are practicing.

Question - ISDN: I have an ISDN number at work I can dial into, so if I get
an ISDN circuit in my house, I should be able to practice DDR by having the
circuit at my house dial the circuit at work (instead of having Sprint
install two ISDN circuits in my house)?

That looks like a pretty good start. When you do some larger lab scenarios
you will probably need a few more. In the end I had 9 routers in my home
lab. The ccbootcamp labs have several labs with 8-9 routers. If I was you

I know setting up ATM in a home lab is expensive, and that ATM blades for
the Catalyst 5000 are not cheap and even if you have one, you need a box
running the ATM LANE services. I have a 3Com Corebuilder 7000 switch I
ripped out of our old 3Com network at work which is fully capable of running

I'm planning on purchasing my final addition to my R&S home lab sometime
this month. I'm having a hard time deciding if I should add another 3550
(I have one already) or if I should pick up a Lightstream 1010 with two
4500s that have an OC3 MM interface. ATM for the 36

4000 router and a 2924XL catalyst switch. I am wondering whether this
catalyst has everything I need to cover CAT 5000 OS.Should I need a
2926T or a CAT 5000 ?.

The DCE/DTE cable is all you need. On the cable that is marked DCE you must
use the "clockrate 64000" under the seral port you are using.
If the cable is not marked, do a "show controller int s0" and it will show
what serail port is a DCe, which is a DTE. To simulate frame-relay all that
is necess
on the ccprep site called "CCIE Home Lab White

yes it is. I have one and it works fine as a frame switch AND router with
isdn, serial, and token ring. A great multi-purpose device, and usually
cheaper than a 2522.
