I've only had one tube develop a mechanical short between adjacent
segments, most likely because they shifted and made contact. In my case, I
was able to confirm this with an ohmmeter though I dont recall what the
resistance was.
Someone on this forum posted their fix for this a few years ago,
Nop but his starting price was 799 USD and he kept decreasing by 50USD
until the current price at 499. I suggest you wait a little bit more :)

paid about $4 if I recall. One tube had shorted segments. I was about 15.
Then in 1979 I decided to build a clock and bought three boards from
Meshna Electronics. After I assembled that, I decided I would get spare

Personally i noticed a price-rise in alot of items on ebay, not just nixies or
tubes. I follow alot of searches of vintage tech and noticed that items are
selling alot more expensive than a half year ago... Prices for nixies, huge
tubes(decorative), other displays, radiation related items, gemst
