2001-05-23 Thread Paul Rodríguez
Hi, everybody.   I would like to set up a heterogenous home LAN using a Mandrake 8 desktop computer (with 2 NICs) as a firewall/router/connection to the internet (and normal workstation when needed), with one win98/mandrake8 laptop and one MacOS9/Suse7.1ppc desktop as peers to each other, c

RE: [newbie] Custom Konsole Commands

2001-03-30 Thread Paul Rodríguez
Sure is. The easiest and probably most convenient way to add a custom command is to place it in your /home/user/bin folder. The Linux console looks for programs in a series of folder in decreasing order of priority. These folders are called the path. To see what folders are included in your pat

DO you plan to dual boot this machine or use just for Linux? If you plan to just run linux (which sounds best on this machine), you could try fdisk first, try reformatting the drive. Also, make sure that your system is not using EZ-BIOS to access the hard drive, I've heard Linux does not like th

I would definately buy a Linux PDA over any other for the sheer customizability and fun factor. While there may be some drawbacks (if you had to make it a Linux PDA yourself, for example, that would be tough), the potential is there for extremely superior options. That's at least how I would loo

Phew!   Ok, folks.  I've learned the XFS is very essential to running X.  I've also learned how to start the XFS from the command line.  I turns out I was able to just "ctrl"+"c" the "sending all processes the TERM signal", bringing me to a login prompt at runlevel 3.  I logged in as root a

The developer install option should come shortly after you choose "beginner, custom, or expert". It asks you what the general purpose of your system will be, and gives you three options "workstation, server, development". At least that's what I remember from a 7.1 expert install. -Paul R -

RE: [newbie] Impossible question?

One other thing, did you do a developer install? It sounds like you might be missing the libraries to be able to compile a program that are included when you state that you'll be using your system for development (as opposed to workstation or server). I seem to remember it being said on the list
