Shel, Doesn't mean they can't use more just can't be used for program storage. Everything from Win2K on up can use as much as you can put in it. This is from the underlying NT technology. Win95 could use as much as 32MB for program loading. Win98 what ever version was up to 64MB for program space

I had to remove W32.Badtrans.B virus from a machine this week too. Norton only added this definition a few days ago (24th I believe), so if you haven't run liveupdate since then it wont pick it up. Once I installed the latest update it removed the virus fine. You also need to check Windows Update
