I've just received another 3400c as a backup for my original one. It
came with a VST zip drive, the one which slips into the cd/floppy/etc slot.
Neither computer will boot with the drive installed, regardless of
whether it has a disk in it or not. Neither computer will recognize the
drive

Zip drives had their time. They were a great
improvement over Syquest Drives but for a Powerbook
3400 you're better off using your Compact Flash PCMCIA
adapter and a Flash card rather than wasting money on
zip disks.
You tried zapping the PRAM right?

lowendmac. It might have something to do with transfer also. Both ata-5

The volume control on my 3400c is stepped, as opposed to infinite, which
makes controlling it when using headphones very tough. The volume is either
off, or too loud on the very first notch. Is there such a thing as a
software app which makes the volume more sensitive? Otherwise I guess
headphones

the upper bay on my 6400 that won't spin up; I thought that the
freezing trick only worked with older model drives than that. I'll
have to give freezing a try on that one (again in external box I guess

While it's too late now to do anything about this, as I've already ordered
the card, I'm hoping that someone will say that a ram card for a 3400c/180
is the same as one for a 3400c/200. I've got a 64meg card coming but on the
site linked from LEM the two cards have different part numbers (but the
ftp.netscape.com) and
Mozilla 1.2.1 (from their ftp site) both work.
They are not accepted by default, and you get a warning from gmail,
but you can choose the login anyway option and everything I've
tried still works.

FYI, in case you can't do what you want with the quickcam,
www.x10.com had complete setups for wireless cams, IR sensing, and
VCR recording for $80, no shipping fee, when I checked last week.
It's pretty cheap to add extra cams/motion sensors to the setup.
