From what I've seen, it's not uncommon for non-Apple drives to not be
recognized--I'm not surprised that Apple's software would refuse to see it
either. Your best bet would be to get ahold of something like
SilverLining--it'll set up the drive so it'll be usable by your 'book.

You may be right, I'm going by memory. I seem to remember having a
problem on my 5300--but I could be confusing it with the 520 also. :)
On the other hand it might not hurt to have him try a different drive
utility and see what it does for the drive.

This isn't to say your batteries are not as you say, but sometimes
batteries show themselves to be fully charged when in fact they are
quite dead. When this is true, they usually won't take a charge. I
suggest testing the batteries with a tester to see what they are
producing

Okay, based on my Lombard experience, reset the PMU. It's done by
holding the little button between the telephone and VGA connectors
down for about ten seconds and releasing it. Then, plug 'er back in

A CardBus card won't insert into the standard PCMCIA slot on the
1400. It was a design feature, to keep people from attempting to use
CardBus cards in the older slots.
The card physically fits fine in both 1400 and WS, so no probs there.

Orinoco did make a CardBus version that wasn't, AFAIK, Mac
compatible. CardBus cards have a metal finger contact strip around
the connector. If it's just plain metal all the way from the
connector end to the antenna housing then it's not CardBus. Did you

Hi...
My 3400c is only recognizing my RAM card at certain times...I've got
a 32MB card in, and it is known-good, but the 3400c doesn't even see
it most of the time I power up. I don't get any messages that the
RAM card is damaged; call tech support, etc...

I Guess Thats the reason why my 540 would not boot however the 550
did fine with both the jumpers set. I am going to have to go back and
start dismantling the books again to see where i can get now with the

OK, so how much time would you say I have left? I haven't heard any
squealing when it spins up lately, but it does have to try twice to
spin up sometimes. I've also heard kind of a bubbling sound when it
has trouble spinning up. Thanks.

Probably because there are no drivers for the CF wireless card. I
doubt it would even work in a PowerBook w/ a PC card slot.
Anybody want to write some drivers? That's a genius idea!

one protocol - IRTalk. It can't do IrDA or any other infrared comms
