Are you saying they want you to attempt to create a web service using Remedy's Admin Tool but without setting up the Mid-Tier? If so that is not supported and not possible using Remedy's Admin tool to create a that web service.. When you create a web service through Remedy's Admin tool, the URL it generates expects you to insert the mid-tier's context path within it. Here is what a typical web service url looks like when created from the Admin tool: http://Mid-Tier-Server:Port-Number/mid-tier/WSDL/public/AR-Server-Name/Web-Service-Name So as you would notice the request is communicated to the AR Server via the Mid-Tier. You could I'm sure write a web service independent of the mid-tier without using the AR Systems Admin tool, but in order to do that you would need to write your own web plugin to the ARS. And I wonder how much of that would be supported by Remedy support should you run into a problem.. Hope this helps... Here is my configuration: ARS 6.03 patch 16 WINDOWS 2003 SQL 2K No mid-tier We are creating a .NET help desk ticket application for our Engineering group. Currently they use Remedy but due to some personal issues the decision was made to move the Remedy application to a move advanced platform. Please do not ask any questions as to why this decision was made. My mother always told me if you can't say something nice about someone don't say anything at all. That being said we need to integrate Remedy with this new .NET system. I need to be able to create tickets in the new system and they need to be able to update my tickets as well as create tickets in Remedy. They have developed a Web Service for me to use to create tickets in the new system. As I understand it this will allow me to pass data to the new system and receive their ticket number back. We were originally going to user the .NET API to allow them to update/create tickets in my system. It was suggested to me that maybe we could use a Web Service created on the Remedy side instead of the API. I have been looking at the documentation for creating a Web Service and that has led me to this posting. My first question is how is this possible without using the Mid-Tier? As I stated, this is new to me and I am not sure I fully understand it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Roger A. Roger, Once your Mid-Tier is configured to talk to your ARS server(s) then all the forms that the user can authenticate and gain access to, should work on the Mid-tier via a supported browser. There are very few exceptions to that general rule. The only way that I could think of to try to prevent your users from being able to use the Mid-tier would be to try to use the ar.conf setting Disable-Client-Operation to restrict the use of the Mid-Tier. However that might also prevent inbound WebService calls too. (I am just not sure if it would or not.) You might also try to mangle the Mid-Tier install and remove a few files/configurations of the java Web application to try to prevent users from being able to login via the Mid-tier application. But I also have no idea if that would prevent Web Service Clients from connecting to the Mid-Tier either. Re: Sending AR email as XML
Actually, we are sure of the reqs ourselves. A client that receives our autogenerated replies asked if it was possible to send the email in xml format. I have a bunch of questions around that, but figured it was best to just answer their question directly, and dig into it later when I have more time. Thanks Stephen Eric Roys [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: v\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} o\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} w\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} .shape {behavior:url(#default#VML);} st1\:*{behavior:url(#default#ieooui) }Stephen, From my understanding, it is not possible to change the formatting via some configuration option for email (send mail or email engine). Outlook client has problems interpreting xml anyway because it doesnt have the full instruction set of a browser, so best you can do is include the xml as an attachment. Perhaps understanding your requirement(s) might be helpful to determine best course of action for you. We went down the xml/xslt road during some experimentation where an email was sent on a schedule and the email had an xml file containing ticket data. The xml had a link to an xsl document that translated the xml into a nice dashboard appearance for management. After evaluation it was determined to have too many pain points and was prone to more problems than we wanted to deal with at the time. Instead, we ported it to Actuate (a web reporting tool) and accomplished the same look and feel and functionality. At this point yes. We have never used the Mid Tier for reasons I would rather not say. That is going to have change by the end of this year but I would prefer to have a proper rollout of the new process. In the mean time if I could use the Mid Tier for the web service functionality to this new application it would make matters easier. I am thinking that as long as I don't let anyone know that the Mid Tier is available then no one will know how to access it. Roger A. ITSM 7.02 and Mid Tier 7.01
I have installed all of the ITSM 7.02 applications, with patch 003 on a Windows 2003, SQL 2k environment. I have installed on a separate IIS server Mid Tier 7.01 p001. The problem arises when attempting to access the applications from the Home Page. I can access certain forms directly (AP:Central) or a Test form I create and add as an entry point from the Home Page. But when I attempt to access any applications I get a HTTP 404 error. BMC support thus far has been unable to find out why, I have checked the New Atlanta logs and Mid Tier logs to no avail. I can access the applications from the Home Page via the User tool. Has anyone else experienced similar behavior? Or does anyone have any suggestions for troubleshooting this? Roger is correct. There are no plans to test the 6.03 WUT running on Vista. Customers wanting to use Vista will need to use the 7.0.01 (or later) WUT. However, since the 7.0.01 WUT can connect to previous versions of AR System (e.g. 6.03), customers will not need to upgrade the server to 7.0.01 to take advantage of clients running Vista. Only the WUT would need to be upgraded. Latest update I have from QA is that testing should be completed within the next 30 days. -David J. Hi Patrick To make an application ITIL-compliant just requires a thorough understanding of the ITIL processes when it is being developed. To get an application 'certified' by an organization like Pink Elephant costs about $10k initially (assuming you pass the assessment). The advert only asks for a developer with an ITIL Foundations certificate - the person, rather than the application they work on. Hello Guys, Just a little update on the situation. When I login to User tool and try to print crystal reports using the DTP Style button, It gives me a logon error (arerr 1904). When I ask someone else to login to my usertool, they can print successfully! Interesting thing is we both have Administrator accounts... I assume everyone with this problem that has responded above has uninstalled the user/alert completely and reinstalled. I had a problem running Crystal a year or so ago but once I did that it went away. Probably a .dll that was changed from another software install. But if the problem started after any new software installs or what about infamous windows patches. There's alot of wierd things going on once those are applied. Re: Crystal Report Error (U)
You're right Mikhail, I sure wouldn't want to recreate accounts either. But it seemed it was only your account having the issue. You can only spend so much time on an issue and then you have to cut it loose if you have a work-around. If it comes up again you'd certainly want to look at it further. I'm glad you submitted the issue to support, although I don't hold out much hope for a solution. But just in this short time it's amazing how many other people have noted they have an issue too. Seems like a bit of a trend! Susan On 3/20/07, Mikhail [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi Sandra, I tried what you suggested but I still get the error. BMC is supposed to be providing a loong-promised white paper telling how to map those two, but I don't think it's available yet. Until then, you can still do it, but you're on your own to do the mapping of the ITSM 6 forms to the CMDB 2.0 CDM, which is different than the 1.x CDM that it is currently mapped to. Joe, the version of ARS is irrelevant - CMDB 2.x needs to be manually mapped to ITSM 6. The white paper, if it ever comes out, will tell you how to map that, but without it, you're on your own. Re: CMDB 2.0 compatibility with ARS 6.x... (Corrected to Change 6.0)
I certainly can understand those concerns.. I guess if we ever are to venture into this territory, I'll have to make damn sure I have DB backups at every possible change on the application that might impact the applications definitions or its meta data.. From what I've been told, messing with the meta data with the CMDB application is not reccommended at all, but that doesn't really mean it can't be done - I'm pretty sure there are ways out there but they may be long and time consuming.. That brings me to asking - Is there a whitepaper on CMDB's architecture and its meta data? Or am I on my own to uncover it? - Original Message From: Rick Cook [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Sent: Tuesday, March 20, 2007 10:54:56 PM Subject: Re: CMDB 2.0 compatibility with ARS 6.x... There is a .pdf with the entire CMDB 2.0 data model on it on the Support site. Re: Crystal Report Error (U)
Mikhail, try another workstation, logged in as yourself, see if the problem follows the ID or just your pc. I don't recall what version you said you had, but if you have crystal reports installed, perhaps you can locate the report in report form and save the report to your workstation and try opening it up directly. Be sure to edit the criteria so it doesn't try to display every ticket in your database. In a prior email, I'd suggested turning on logging as yourself and the individual that works, did you notice any differences between the 2 log files? But it seemed it was only your account having the issue. You can only spend so much time on an issue and then you have to cut it loose if you have a work-around. If it comes up again you'd certainly want to look at it further. I'm glad you submitted the issue to support, although I don't hold out much hope for a solution. But just in this short time it's amazing how many other people have noted they have an issue too. Seems like a bit of a trend! However, creating and deleting accounts would be a last resort in our case because there are a lot of other users out there that can perform DTP-style printing. But I do wonder what the difference is between the old and the new one. I created the new one to have the same info as the old one. Make another account for yourself and try that one. If it works, delete the old one and use the one that works. There must be something different but without being there it's really hard to troubleshoot something that is probably simple. And no, please don't send any logfiles ! When I login to User tool and try to print crystal reports using the DTP Style button, It gives me a logon error (arerr 1904). When I ask someone else to login to my usertool, they can print successfully! Interesting thing is we both have Administrator accounts... So now we're thinking this could be some permission issue, but we can't quite point our fingers at it. Anyone?
