Jack,

One of the things that I did with our home page was to create a kind
of bookmark system. Basically it is a form that implements as many of
the Window Open operations from a data driven approach. So the user
can "bookmark" a Form, a Query, or even a Report operation. Then a
table field on the Home Page allows them to "jump" to that bookmark.

So in short, the users can login, and double click on a row in a table
field to get to any data/report/form in AR system.

It is a big step forward from the "Application List" in my opinion.

Its very simple, I work with a product that I have loved since 1996 and a

existed.

May Remedy live forever.

Jack,

There really is no limit to what you can put on a Home Page
Some of mine have Tables where the row selected displays the ticket in a view
field
Some have a flash board on them so management can see some statistics
A couple have a scrolling text marquee so managers can put out messages
The only limit is imagination.

So the Remedy home page sucks. I don't like the application links, they aren't
user friendly. I have some ideas on how I'd like to implement something better
but would like to see what other people have done.

So if you have something that is really cool and want to show it off please let

Wow, folks you guys overwhelm me, in a good way. That was a lot of
help in short amount of time.

And then there's an arslister named Doug who takes it a notch up with
a fine touch. :)

Thank you guys, and thank you Doug...for replying and for having the
foresight to have ARS be smart enough to work with clear text
password. It worked, and yes the password is not clear text any more.

For those in the US, happy independence day.

BMC has created defect # SW00329945 for the issue you have reported.

Yes, this past May.

Actually, this one was rather straight-forward. The notification audit
table timed out every time it was refreshed. When I checked the
qualifications, the field it was searching on was non-indexed. Other forms'
notification audit tables search on an indexed field, e.g. HPD:Help Desk
Audit Log, CHG:Infrastructure Change Audit Log. Just TMS:Audit Log doesn't
search on that field: it has its own special guid field.

Come to think of it, I think one of the users told me a week or so ago that
one of the Problem audit logs is timing out as well..

How does a record gets deleted in the NTE: Notifier Log .We see that there is a

Jack,

There really is no limit to what you can put on a Home Page
Some of mine have Tables where the row selected displays the ticket in a view
field
Some have a flash board on them so management can see some statistics
A couple have a scrolling text marquee so managers can put out messages
The only limit is imagination.

Hi Ray T,
Try to change the password in DB, for ARAdmin the default password is
AR#Admin# then edit the ar.conf file, find a line that begins with
DB-Password if this line exists comment it (#) or delete it

Be careful with capital and small letters

Cheers!

I usually put the links to documentation and training stuff in the big
empty space. I suspect it is meant for a big view field, though, so
we can put a fully worked page in there.

Re: History of AR System

2009-07-02 Thread Benedetto Cantatore
Having started at version 3 and working my way through all the versions,
it makes sense. I'm training an individual to be an admin and he gets a
bit frustrated at times. He'll ask me, "Why did they do that?" and I'll
just shrug and say, "That's the way it is." Not to mention all the fun
little undocumented surprises that makes Remedy such a joy to work
with.

I read the books, completed a project and then went to one formal

My first work was on 3.0, but I think 3.2 was out before I made it to
class.

It wasn't all that hard to do that back then. ITSM is understandably
more complex and ITIL requires a bit more brain sweat to make sure we
get it right. 8)

Re: How do I Change the ARAdmin password Remedy uses Without having Remedy up

2009-07-02 Thread Mueller, Doug
Ray,

The information folks have given you is almost correct.

1) You are indeed going to need to edit the file ar.conf. Specifically the
   line Db-password:

You will notice that it is an encrypted string. You will type in the
   CLEAR TEXT password.

2) Start the AR System server. It will recognize that the value for
Db-password is not encrypted and will try and use the value that is there
as it is for the password.

Since you have put in the correct password, all is OK.

So, far, everything is correct with the advice you were given.

Now is where there is another step

3) The AR System server will not do anything to that password in the file. So,
the ar.conf file has a clear text password in it.

You want to IMMEDIATELY go into the Server Information screens and change
the password through the AR System to something new. This will get an
encrypted version of the new password in the file.

If you really want it to be the same password, you can simply specify the
same password as the new password (most DBs will allow this). If there is
a problem, just change it to something else, then change it back.

So, the information about how to get going is correct, you just need the final
step of changing the password through the AR System configuration interface to
get the password in ar.conf encrypted.

I've heard (but never tried) that you can put the unencrypted password in
ar.conf, and the AR server will catch it, encrypt it and use that from then on.
That probably won't change the database password, but, if that works, you
would be able to at least put your new password in and have it use it. The
line you're looking for in ar.conf is "Db-password:"

There use to be a way to start up the arserver and have it reset the aradmin
password (yes its on the Database), however, you should contact BMC/Remedy

Hi all, I am trying to setup an instance of Remedy that is a copy of the
production. I copied the file system and had the oracle database copied as
well, and then made changes as necessary, but I hit a wall.

unfortunately, the aradmin password was changed in the copied database. When
the new instance of Remedy starts and tries to connect to the copied database,
it of course tries to use the aradmin password from production and it fails to
connect. I don't know the password for aradmin user in production database
(don't ask).

How can I tell Remedy, when it's not running, to use a certain password for
aradmin? I thought the password was encrypted in ar.conf, but I don't see it
there. Not that it would help, because it would be in encrypted form. Where
does Remedy store aradmin password? Can't be in the database.

Other than doing an "upgrade" install of AR Server on the copied instance, what
option do I have?

I hesitate to change the password in prod and then copy ar.conf...because I
suspect that some external stuff may be tapping into the database there using
aradmin account.

TIA.

Re: How do I Change the ARAdmin password Remedy uses Without having Remedy up

2009-07-02 Thread LJ Longwing
Have your DBA change it back to the default of AR#Admin# in the DB, then
start up your Remedy...you may find that it connects just fine. Then you
can change it through the admin console and it'll update the db and the
config file with the encrypted pw. If this works, you know the PW in
production is the default.

Hi all, I am trying to setup an instance of Remedy that is a copy of the
production. I copied the file system and had the oracle database copied as
well, and then made changes as necessary, but I hit a wall.

unfortunately, the aradmin password was changed in the copied database. When
the new instance of Remedy starts and tries to connect to the copied
database, it of course tries to use the aradmin password from production and
it fails to connect. I don't know the password for aradmin user in

When I worked at Avon, we had placed a huge button on that empty

thought was a shame because it looked good and made sense for that
company. Still not sure what was the rationale for taking that down.

I read the books, completed a project and then went to one formal
training class before realizing I already had the skills they covered.
My first work was on 3.0, but I think 3.2 was out before I made it to
class.

It wasn't all that hard to do that back then. ITSM is understandably
more complex and ITIL requires a bit more brain sweat to make sure we
get it right. 8)

List,

I'm looking to get some traction on a defect that's bugging the crap out of
me. I found this in 7.5 initial release shortly after release, it took
awhile for my Level1 to get the ticket opened with BMC...it's been in their
hands since BEFORE patch 1 was released, but they still haven't fixed it...

The bug is in the 7.5 Java API in relation to the getListFilterObjects for
ARServerUser. If you make the call you get a null pointer error. I even
replicated this in driver.exe. in the 7.1 api it takes me roughly a min to
pull the roughly 3000 filters with the getListFilterObjects callmy
workaround is to do a GetListFilter, then loop through all 3k records
getting the objects for each...this workaround takes me roughly 5 times
longer to get my records.

I don't consider it acceptable to break something as simple as this and
issue 3 patches to the product without fixing itI'm looking for some 'me
too' over to BMC to try to get this puppy into Patch 4 if possible.

If you consider this a whine, please let me know about YOUR bugs that BMC
won't fix

Re: Pragmatically Sorting A Table Field

2009-07-02 Thread Thad K Esser
Frank,

I think using a field to store the sort order will get you where you want.
Add the 'SortOrder' field to the table sort as the first sort item,
followed by whatever other fields you would normally want to sort by.
Then, if you were to set the sort order on all the records to the same
value, it effectively removes that (the 'SortOrder' field) as part of the
sort criteria.

Example: Set the sort order of the table to be: SortOrder, Name, Status
(in that order)
Set all the SortOrder values to 0. Then the table essentially sorts by
Name, then Status.

Once you adjust your table sort orders, just refresh the table. (you said
using a display only column - I think you 'd need to add it as a regular
field to the underlying table)

Does that help?

ARS 7.1p5 SQL Server 2005

Fairly sure this is not possible but

Is it possible to control the sort order of a table through code? I know
you can set a default sort, and that the user can click a column, but can
work flow be created to change the sort order order of a table?
I want to set values in a display only column and then sort on that column.
I can set the column values, and the user can then manually click the
column to sort it, but that is not an optimal solution.

Thank you

Yes, this past May.

Actually, this one was rather straight-forward. The notification audit table
timed out every time it was refreshed. When I checked the qualifications, the
field it was searching on was non-indexed. Other forms' notification audit
tables search on an indexed field, e.g. HPD:Help Desk Audit Log,
CHG:Infrastructure Change Audit Log. Just TMS:Audit Log doesn't search on that
field: it has its own special guid field.

Come to think of it, I think one of the users told me a week or so ago that one
of the Problem audit logs is timing out as well

I have a really good bug that BMC won't fix: TMS:Audit log uses a non-indexed
field to pull data from the SYS:Notification Log form. We're using ITSM 7.0.1
P7. I realize that we are most likely the only people in the universe who
would even consider using the notification audit logs on Task, but running a
table scan against the notification logs when it does happen is unforgiveable.
It took me two days to isolate the source of the issue and fix the workflow. I
sent BMC the definition files with a detailed explanation on May 5 and followed
up with an RFP and a WebEx. Crickets.

Re: Create Attributes in CMDB/Asset

2009-07-02 Thread Drew Shuller
Bala,

Each sub-class inherits the attributes from its' parent class. The
simplest example is that the attribute will be added to every class in the
CDM if you add it to Base Element. In your case, you may want to add the
attribute to BMC_Sysstem.

I don't like Sync Asset UI. Once, I was advised not to run it but did it
anyway. Then I spent the next two hours removing all sorts of fields from
the asset forms. Sync Asset UI will add every attribute to the Asset
form...and there are many many hidden attributes that you don't want in
your form. Instead, for each Asset form in which you want the new field to
appear, open the asset form, right-click on it, choose the new field, then
move the field to where you want it.

Thanks for the input.  It has been awhile since I have worked with the CMDB...
Do I need to add the Date field to all classes if I want the Date field to be
added to all of the classes?  For example:  Would I need to go into the Class
Manager and add the Date field to BMC_AdminDomain, BMC_ApplicationSystem,
BMC_Cluster, BMC_InventoryStorage...  Once I have done this, then I will go
into the Sync Asset UI with CMDB to run the update, then go into the Remedy

Does BMC not recommend adding fields to the Base form or is this a known issue?

If you need "Date" to be availble in Computer class only- add the field in

Adding a field to a base element is not recommened, when you add a field in base
element and want to export the cmdb class definition using cmdbdriver will have
issues.you need to take definition of all the modified classes from Dev server
to Prod server..

When you add a field in cmdb ,running the "syncassetui" will sync the cmdb and
asset forms, so that the newly added fields will be visible on the asset
forms...

DONT ADD ANY FIELDS to ASSET FORMS MANUALLY IN REMEDY ADMINISTRATOR!!!

If you consider this a whine, please let me know about YOUR bugs that BMC
won't fix

Re: Create Attributes in CMDB/Asset

2009-07-02 Thread rey s
Bala,

if you need "Date" field in all classes- add the field to Base element...

If you need "Date" to be availble in Computer class only- add the field in
computer class

Adding a field to a base element is not recommened, when you add a field in
base element and want to export the cmdb class definition using cmdbdriver
will have issues.you need to take definition of all the modified classes
from Dev server to Prod server..

When you add a field in cmdb ,running the "syncassetui" will sync the cmdb
and asset forms, so that the newly added fields will be visible on the asset
forms...

DONT ADD ANY FIELDS to ASSET FORMS MANUALLY IN REMEDY ADMINISTRATOR!!!

Re: Pragmatically Sorting A Table Field

2009-07-02 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
Since sort order is a property of the table, no it cannot be changed thru
workflow. The only possible method I can think of would be to do something
tricky like an OLE action (for the User Tool) and JavaScript (for MidTier), but
I haven't tried that.

Re: Create Attributes in CMDB/Asset

2009-07-02 Thread Drew Shuller
Bela, if you want the field in every class, add it to Base Element using
the Class Manager. If you want the field only in Computer System and
everything below it, just add it to Computer System.

Otherwise, yes. To have the field show up in the Asset forms, you'll need
to add it from the join form on each one.

CMDB Install Question

2009-07-02 Thread Sokol, Brian
I am trying to install CMDB 7.5 and then ITSM 7.5 on a test box. I have never
installed CMDB before. The server is Windows 2003 with SQL 2005 using IIS and
ServletExec 5. During the CMDB install I am being prompted for the location of
Tomcat. According to the install doc IIS and ServletExec are supported:
Tomcat 5.5 or 6.0
(Tomcat 6.0 is installed with BMC Atrium
Web Services Registry)
􀂄 Microsoft IIS with ServletExec 5.0

Anyone know how to get around this. I prefer to use IIS and ServletExec.

Hi Saravanan,

I have seen it where records get stuck in these two forms: NTE:SYS-Group NT
Control and NTE:SYS-Individual NT Control. I have to go into those forms
every once in a while and make sure there are no records in there. These
are 2 pass-through forms, so no records should be in there longer than a few
seconds. You can look at the submit date of the records in there to see if
they are old ones. I hope this helps.

AR System 7.5 Silent Install issues

2009-07-02 Thread Rick Cook
Just a heads-up for anyone who has this little task on their "to-do" list.
Basically, there are three issues:

1) It doesn't work. It fails about 5 minutes into whatever its doing.
2) There are no logs (that I can find) to tell me why it doesn't work, or
even where it fails.
3) The documentation is NO help at all in troubleshooting, and almost
barely adequate for setup.

Rick

P.S. The 7.1 AR Server silent install isn't working (for me, anyway)
either, but at least there are logs I can send to support, and the
documentation on how to set it up, including what each parameter is
expecting, is pretty good. Support can't figure out why it isn't working,
and as yet (AFAIK), engineering hasn't either. 7.1 client installs worked
like a charm on the first try, though!

Rant: RE: SW00327272

2009-07-02 Thread Meyer, Jennifer L
I have a really good bug that BMC won't fix: TMS:Audit log uses a non-indexed
field to pull data from the SYS:Notification Log form. We're using ITSM 7.0.1
P7. I realize that we are most likely the only people in the universe who
would even consider using the notification audit logs on Task, but running a
table scan against the notification logs when it does happen is unforgiveable.
It took me two days to isolate the source of the issue and fix the workflow. I
sent BMC the definition files with a detailed explanation on May 5 and followed
up with an RFP and a WebEx. Crickets.

List,
I'm looking to get some traction on a defect that's bugging the crap out of me.
I found this in 7.5 initial release shortly after release, it took awhile for
my Level1 to get the ticket opened with BMC...it's been in their hands since
BEFORE patch 1 was released, but they still haven't fixed it...

The bug is in the 7.5 Java API in relation to the getListFilterObjects for
ARServerUser. If you make the call you get a null pointer error. I even
replicated this in driver.exe. in the 7.1 api it takes me roughly a min to
pull the roughly 3000 filters with the getListFilterObjects callmy
workaround is to do a GetListFilter, then loop through all 3k records getting
the objects for each...this workaround takes me roughly 5 times longer to get
my records.

I don't consider it acceptable to break something as simple as this and issue 3
patches to the product without fixing itI'm looking for some 'me too' over
to BMC to try to get this puppy into Patch 4 if possible.

If you consider this a whine, please let me know about YOUR bugs that BMC won't
fix

NTE: Notifier Log

2009-07-02 Thread Saravanan Palaniappan
Hi List ,

Currently there is a problem in the Production server where the NTE: Notifier
Log has got 5 lakh Records and it keeps Increasing gradually.

As per the analysis there is a escalation wriiten in teh NTE: Notifier
[NTE:NTS:t...@00:30-CleanupNTS] which sets the Z1D Action to delete and a
filter deletes the record in the Notifier.

How does a record gets deleted in the NTE: Notifier Log .We see that there is a
filter [NTE:NTL:Delete_795]
has the run process to delete it . but the qualification is 'TR.z1D Action' =
"DELETE".
But i dont see any workflow pushes z1D Action' = "DELETE". in the NTE:
Notifier Log .

Please advice.

Regards
Saravanan.
