The key word there is SEND!
You cannot SEND more than that, but it does not seem to say anywhere
that you cannot RECEIVE more than that. As a matter of fact, the send TO

this seems to imply that there is NO difference as far as RECEIVING

[e-gold-list] Re: Income tax

2003-10-15 Thread admin
Sorry Ian,

If any government that borrows from the IMF or some other lender fiat
currency and has to repay the principle and pay interest on the amount
borrowed they can never get out of debt to the IMF because the interest was
never put into circulation with the principle.

In the economy of any country money comes into existence as debt to a bank
as more and more people borrow they create a community pool of funds that
feed and circulate through the economy until that money finds its way back
to the banks as people repay the principle borrowed and pay the interest
requested. The interest comes from the community pool of funds, which means
that every time someone pays their loan out completely stops someone else
from paying their loan off without further borrowing.

If you are suggesting that it is possible for the Australian or New Zealand
Government to get out of debt, then sir you are telling me they the
Governments mentioned are printing USD as they need them to pay the interest
owing. Remember the IMF wants back what it loaned plus the interest which
it didn't loan.

Interesting. The FAQ says they're not an exchange service,
but maybe they need to rephrase that, since they appear to
offer dollar denominated plastic cards to account holders,
presumably in exchange for spends that will settle in grams,
at least in the case of e-gold. If grams come in and dollars
go out, they're doing an exchange business whether or not the
 FAQ says it, IMO.

Actually, they also say that they are regulated by the FSA, which is the
UK authority but they disclose no details of their FSA registration You
may want to compare this with for instance MoneyBookers, which provides
verifiable details about FSA register no:
http://www.fsa.gov.uk/register/servlet/uk.gov.fsa.register.firm.FirmMain
Consumer?sf_name=moneybookers%20ltd.sf_post_out=sf_post_in=
The FSA does not seem to have any record on a DGCbank
http://www.fsa.gov.uk/register/servlet/uk.gov.fsa.register.firm.FirmMain
Consumer?sf_name=moneybookers%20ltd.sf_post_out=sf_post_in=
Contact number is a German phone, funny for an FSA regulated entity, as
well there is no address on the site, not on the whois,

It looks like they just copied MoneyBookers.com to me...
http://www.moneybookers.com/app/help.pl?s=privacy and then
http://www.dgcbank.com/terms/privacy.htm
Or
http://www.dgcbank.com/terms/laund.htm and then

I suggest to stay clear of this one...

[e-gold-list] R: Mythical Ephemeral countries

2003-07-23 Thread PBG Admin
I believe the Les Hemingway one may be one of two, as the one he did
with my Grandfather was before the '70s, was called New Atlantis, and it
was closer to the FL Keys than the Bahamas. I'm aware this isn't exactly
on the topic of money, but (like computer security, in small doses)
privately done countries fascinate many in this crowd. Hopefully, the
state Dept. will post the docs so we don't have to buy them... JMR

STATE DEPARTMENT DECLASSIFIES DOCUMENTS DESCRIBING MYTHICAL COUNTRIES by
Michael Ravnitzky

The United States Department of State has this week declassified and
released a 552 page trove of documents describing mythical and
ephemeral countries seeking recognition from the U.S. Government.
Many of the documents consist of correspondence between applicants,
govt officials or foreign nations, and the State Department.

Among the dozens of applicants were:

snip

* The Sovereign Military and Hospitaler Order of Saint John of
Jerusalem, Knights of Malta http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/07477a.htm
The order has an embassy to the Holy See, in Rome and other 91
countries
It is recognized by the UN.

Maybe your Department of State needs to read some history? Or maybe they
consider 'mythical' anything that cannot be invaded???

2003-07-09 Thread PBG Admin
Well, not charging an arm and a leg is one thing, selling at a loss is
different. Either you are planning NOT to honor your commitment to
clients, or you can't add up numbers, both of which are extremely
dangerouselements. Customers will get burned and their confidence
towards the whole DGC exchange community will be shaken

How can you sell gold at 1% with payment via MoneyBookers interface
(which by the way is a cute way of hiding your true bank acocunt details
from clients, I wonder why??)? MoneyBookers charges 2%... So you are out
1% there (at least)

You also accept NetPay, [as payment for egold at 1%], which is even more
expensive than MoneyBookers

If these are not red flags...!

I think the folks at www.gold-pages.net should remove your lsiting
fromtheir fine site, if they really want to provide a SERVICE to the
gold community!

[e-gold-list] PayByGold News

2003-07-08 Thread PBG Admin
www.paybygold.com

Hello everybody and hope you are ll enjoying this HOT summer!

Despite the heat, here at PayByGold we continue to work hard to improve
the quality of our services!

New SECURITY feature added

***
A 4-character alphanumeric PIN has now been added to our registration
form. At the moment this is being used only to confirm credit card
orders, but it will soon be used as an added security in most of the
transactions (including some exciting new ones coming soon). Old clients
who did not originally select a PIN upon registration, will be notified
BY PHONE of the PIN assigned to their account when placing their next
credit card order. We take this opportunity to remind everybody NEVER to
use the same password for your email acocunt, your egold and your PBG
account, that is definitively NOT the way to handle security. Always
pick passwords that are hard to guess, made by random characters, try to
store them offline, and change them every now and then.

MoneyBookers

***
Just a reminder that we are now accepting MoneyBookers funds to purchase
any of the ecurrencies traded. Purchasing any ecurrency using your
MoneyBookers account will cost you just our regular 3% fee. And funding
will be completed FAST as usual.

Xcompte.com

***
Per our members' request, especially from our Canadian friends, we are
now adding Xcompte to our funding options for any ecurrency. Due to
Xcompte higher internal fees, funding via Xcompte is subject to a 6.5%
fee.

WebMoney.ru

***
WebMoney is a very popular method in all of Eastern Europe, and we shall
be able to complete integration with their system in the next few days.
You will be able to sell or purchase WebMoney as well as to exchange it
online with any other ecurrency. Stay tuned for some great introductory
rates!

Well, that's enough for now, but expect some more exciting news in the
very near future!

The problem is that they have more complicated payment choices. I asked if

Don't believe me: www.internaxx.com will open you a brokerage account in
Luxembourg, www.xpresstrade.com and you will be trading futures within a
few
 days.
www.swissnetbank.com and you have a swiss account without leaving your

We are not accepting any applications for new accounts at this time.

Right, they all came from the same place, except it was NOT from

How would YOU feel if some creep starting sending insulting abusive emails

I have gone through this and it is not pleasant, so I think you should

Ragnar et al,

I think the easies way to open a bank account in Canada and Australia
would be to use HSBC. I believe it has branches in both countries, as
well as branches in many other countries.

Bank of Montreal owns Harris Banks in the USA (or vice versa) which
should facilitate opening an account in Canada. Harris Banks can be

Several Canadian Banks have international branches that may (or may not)
be able to offer assistance. The following links may be of assistance:

[e-gold-list] NO SYMPATHY FOR THE POOR!

I've been observing this little tirade of philosophical sparring, and
have been resisting the temptation to participate, but the above
comment really irks me.

I HAVE NO SYMPATHY FOR THE POOR! Especially in countries like the U.S.,
Canada, and the U.K. The only poor people that deserve even a modicum
of sympathy and deserve assistance are those under extreme oppression
which does not allow persons basic freedoms which would allow them to
meet their own needs -- and the only assistance they should get is to
help them overthrow their oppressors.

I've been dirt poor in the past. At one point I had no money and no job
(a brief interlude after after scholarships ran out) -- no way to pay
for school, food, clothing, shelter, or anything else, I had but a few
days before the phone utilities would be shut off since the bills were
past due (I could have asked my parents for help, though they are not
rich either, but I'm too proud and independent for that). I tried to
find work in this isolated little town, but no one would hire me at the
time -- one manager at McDonalds actually told me that I'm too smart to
work at the Golden Arches (NOTE TO SELF: pretend to be stupid to get a
job at fast food chains. -- I did this a couple of years later to get
temporary work at Pizza Hut and it worked). Since I knew of some
acquaintances that did pretty well milking the government welfare
system, and at times local churches, I sought temporary assistance from
those sources. To make a long story short, I was turned away for no
other reason than I was a white male with the audacity to be going to
school at the same time I was poor. If I wanted any type of assistance
I would be required to stop attending university -- this requirement
didn't seem to apply to my minority friends, or to associates I knew
of milking the system with families to support.

The abuses of the federal and private assistance programs, that I
observed, were absolutely sickening. One guy I knew was white (though I
think he did have some kind of ethnic background), and married with 5
kids, and he was going to school, taking some of the same classes that I
did. He had two jobs, gov. tuition grants and his wife worked. With the
tuition grants, he and his wife made more than enough to provide decent
food, shelter, and clothing for the entire family, and meet other needs
such as basic transportation, medical bills and the like (even without
the tuition grants he received, he could still probably swing the
tuition himself, with a little budgeting). Despite his lack of
poorness, this guy received approximately an additional $3000/mo. in
wealfare checks from the gov. plus about $500/mo. in food stamps. These
extra government handouts he receive were used to buy fancy toys like
TVs, stereos, computer stuff, vacations, and pricey food.He received
these benefits for the entire 4 years that I knew him. However, me in
actual need gets nothing.

Not wanting to quit school, and not wanting to crawl back to
MommyDaddy -- I took matters into my own hands. I started a little
business doing odd jobs around the community. I called myself THE Odd
Jobber!. There was almost no job I would not do: yard work, simple car
maintenance, electrical work, house cleaning, painting, wood work, etc.
. . you name it. As long as the client provided the tools and materials,
and if I felt I had the skills I would do it for less than anyone else
(my hourly rate was $8 to $25 per hour depending on the job). The only
caveate for the client was that they had to provide any needed tools and
they had to pay in cash. I printed up 3000 fliers in the school computer
lab. This pissed off the school, but I won that argument they left me
alone. The computer science director thought I was pretty clever in my
arguments equating my flyers to resumes -- and the tuition and fees I
had paid up to that point gave me the right to use the computer lab. I
stuck these fliers in doors all over town. It was a complete success.

Maybe a bit too successfull for the likes of local businesses in a
small town, like the one I was in. In less than a month that summer
(working long, exhausting hours, crisscrossing town on my bicycle, doing
odd jobs all over the place) I had pulled in several thousand dollars
which gave me enough to live on modestly, and pay for school. My success
was taking business away from the local townies, and since I was an
outsider they collectively harrassed me to the point that I had to stop,
or I might find myself dead in a ditch outside of town. I actually
received death threats on the phone, and even the local police

[e-gold-list] These Idiots Never Stop

2002-04-18 Thread GoldCom Admin.

E-gold account holders have been hit with a barage of phony E-mails that
appear to be from e-gold. At first blush they appear genuine, unless you
realize that e-gold would never send such an E-mail. These E-mails
contain links to perform the requested action, be it re-activation,
security checks, etc. . . -- woe to those that follow the links and
perform the requested actions -- byebye gold!

We'll, now these schmucks are trying the same thing with EZCmoney. See
the E-mail below, and note the similarity to one of the fraudulent
imposter e-gold links.

EZCard, Inc. You better pay attention to this, else it's gonna cause
you your users alot more grief than necessary. Perhaps EZCard, Inc.
E-gold/GSR/OmniPay, and GoldMoney can team up to smack these dolts
upside their head.

[e-gold-list] Truck For Sale !!! e-gold GoldMoney Accepted !

2002-04-04 Thread GoldCom Admin.

Truck for Sale!!! e-gold GoldMoney Accepted!

If you are in the market for a used truck and are in the Syracuse, NY
area or don't mind driving out to Syracuse; contact us via E-mail to
make arrangements to check it out.

-- 1993 Ford Ranger XLT Lite Pickup Truck (milage at time of this
E-mail: 96,069 miles)
-- Manual Transmission
-- Sandy light brown/tan color
-- Air Conditioning
-- Power Steering
-- AM/FM Stereo Cassette
-- Engine Vaccum Gage
-- Bed Liner
-- Towing Package
-- Alloy Wheels
-- Shell/Cap for truck bed

-- Asking Price: $2,800

Truck is in excellent running condition. My recommendations for
mechanical work (since the truck has the milage it does) would possibly
be to have the clutch checked out. Cosmetically, the truck is in fair
condition. It has a couple small rust spots here and there and a rather
large dent on the rear, passenger side corner of the truck. The dent
occurred a few winters back when the Syrcause University Snow Plows
decided that my truck, parked in plain view, was part of a snow bank.
These are the same snow plow operators that took out an entire row of
streetlamps on campus as well -- something in their coffee?

Why are we selling? We're moving to a warmer climate.

How about some facts from the 1997 CRC Manual.

* Selenium (SE) : about $150/Kg. for ultra high purity it goes for
around $250/Kg.

* Europium (Eu): about $50/g.

Some interesting facts about these elements:

Europium: First discovered by Demarcay in 1901. Ignites in air about 150
to 180 degrees C, and is one of the most reactive costly rare-earths.
Is a good neutron absorber, therefore is used in nuclear control
applications. Europium oxide is widely used as a phosphor activator in

Selenium: First discovered by Berzelius in 1817 (some books say 1812).
It is a member of the sulfur family and resembles sulfur in its various
forms and compounds. It exhibits photovoltaic photoresistive
properties and is therefore used in various applications ranging from
solar cells, photocells, exposure meters, and copy machines. It is used
by the glass industry for colored glasses and enamels. It is also an
additive in the production of Stainless Steel. Elemental Selenium is
nontoxic  is considered an essential trace element in our diets;
however, many selenium compounds are extremely toxic and resemble
arsenic in the physiological reactions. Selenium occurs in some soils is
amounts sufficient to produce serious effects in animals feeding on
plants, such as locoweed, grown in such soils.

Please read Jim Puplava's analysis: Powershift - Oil, Money, War TM

Iteresting stuff. I've seen various analyses along these lines before,
and they have their strong points of validity. I actually was involved
in the presentation/instruction of a basic physics class, that discussed
energy environmental issues, etc. . . that briefly discussed the work
of Dr. M. King Hubbert.

As an engineer, and as a society with our current level of technical
prowess -- hydrocarbons are a pretty silly source of energy; valid only
for limited use. Hydrocarbons are much more valuable as chemical
ingredients /or catalysts in the production of materials.

There are a multitude of viable, (even better than reliance on
hydrocarbons) energy production distribution options available to a
technological culture such as that of the U.S. ; but that's another story.

However, as we all know, common sense plays little role in most human
affairs -- especially when nation-to-nation relations are in question.
The argument of better energy sources aside, and assuming we continue to
heavily rely on fossil fuels for the next 3 to 10 decades; the supply
senario of fossil fuels is not quite as bleak as presented in the Power
Shift article referenced above. What the article above should give a
hint about, to the informed and thinking reader, is that investment
opportunity in the hydrocarbon industries will be shifting around.

Here's why:
1.) Oil Sands: It is estimated that oil-sand deposits contain enough
crude oil to meet world demand for the next several hundred years, and
that's just the known deposits. Canada has one of the world's largest,
and easily accessable oil sand deposits in the world. And due to
technical advances, extraction cost of crude, from oil sands has dropped
from around $30 to $50 per barrel (depending on deposit quality) to
around $9 per barrel of crude. There are also significant natural gas
deposits associated with oil sands as well.

2.) Oil Shale: World deposits could meet world demand for crude
several times over for the next hundred years or two. Colorado, and many
other areas in the U.S. Canada have abundant, high quality deposits --
not to mention other areas of the world. Extraction costs are still
pretty high for oil shales, but much less than they were 20 years ago,
and technical advances continue to improve the state of the art and its
cost effectiveness.

3.)Best of all -- It turns out that crude oil is actually a
renewable resource. A recent, accidental discovery has revealed that
crude oils are a natural waste product of certain types of anerobic
bactiria (conversely there are many specie of naturally occuring
bacteria that consume hydrocarbon products -- be they from geological
deposits, other bacteria, or other wise). What happened is that some
biologist was tramping around a salt mash and noticed some oily scum.
Thinking there was an oil leak, or spill someplace messing up his
beautiful marsh; he took a sample for anaylsys, and set about making
inquiries as to possible spills /or leaks. His anaylsis of the sample,
and further tests culturing of muck from the marsh revealed that the
oil was naturally occuring and was produced by several specie of
anerobic bacteria. Proper culturing and enhancement of these bacteria in
a production environment would give us all the crude oil we ever need,
and for a tiny fraction of the cost that is currently necessary.

I could go on and on for many pages about developments in the
hydrocarbon industries that make alot of the talk of scarcity and
political posturing a bunch a phooey (not to mention the even cooler
stuff, that is actually more important, in other industries). The real
issue is to appreciate the creativity, and power of a free human mind
and look for the opportunities that such present. It's time to stop
investing in buggy whips!

 Can someone do the calculation??!

--

1 lb = 16 oz. = 453.6 g ; therefore 50lb = ~22680 g
According the the CRC manual gold has a density of ~19.3g/cm^3 at 20
deg. celcius (a comfortabel room temp)
A 4 inch cube is a tiny bit less than 10 cm on a side making a cube of
 a little less than 1000 cm^3
The weight of the cube in question is 1000 x 19.3 = 19300 g. which is
equivalent to approximately 42.5 lb . . . a bit less than 50lb, wouldn't
you say.

At 20 deg. celcius a 50lb square cube of gold would have a volume of
approximately 1175.1 cm^3, which is equivalent to a cube with sides of
approximately 10.5 cm (~4.25 in.), which is very close to the 4 in.
mentioned above.
NOTE: 1 in.^3 = ~ 16.39 cm^3

That's really cool! However, being a noble cause, if it gains any
momentum the goons figure out what's happening, it will get a whole
lot of people killed. :-(

Am I being to cynical ? . . . maybe, but history in this country suggest
otherwise.

For such a project to survive past its first few real heart beats will
require more than the naive, idealistic zeal of a bunch of people, of
like mind, living in the same place trying to elect support each
other. THIS IS NOT UNOCCUPIED TERRITORY. Alot of money and power is at
stake. By way of example: that is why the State and Federal governments
constantly strive to keep the remaining Native American Indian Tribes
under their thumb. Supposedly these tribes are autonomous, sovereign
nations within the U.S. -- but let them try to exercise true
sovereignity and they quickly find out how short the leash is (many
American Indians have been killed, fined, /or imprisoned in the past 75
years, not to mention the times prior, for trying to excercise the
sovereignity supposedly granted in their treaties).

To give this project even a snowball's chance in hell, they might want
to consider establishing alliances (once they start gaining momentum)
with all the Indian Tribes across the U.S., and encourage them to start
asserting their own autonomy more strongly at the same time. If they can
successfully do that, the devil's attention resources will be
divided among hundreds of targets -- as the old saying goes, divide
conquer. [Unfortunately, to be completely blunt and honest, a covert
arms supply, and other cloak-n-dagger stuff _will_ be necessary in the
long run for the movement to survive the violent retaliation that is
sure to follow from D.C. Maybe a contract with the Gurkas would be in
order as well. ]

I recommend that the founders and participants in this endeavor start
reading the works of Sun-Tzu, Machiavelli, Vegetius, De Saxe, Frederick
the Great, and Napoleon. That done, other preparations may be in order
-- if that comment needs explaination, go back and reread the works of
all of the above along with a thorough reading of the histories of at
least the U.S. and the Romans, then think for a few seconds. It's better
to be prepared for the worst, and never meet the five horsement, than to
not make preparations and find the unpleasant characters barging through
your door.

Anyway best of luck to these guys. I hope it works.

[e-gold-list] Re: Charge back problem

2002-02-19 Thread GoldCom Admin.

   Subject: Charge back problem
   From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
...
Let's discuss please charge back problem for online businesses that
accept directly or indirectly (PayPal, Click bank etc) credit cards.

Is there any reasonable way (exept accepting e-currencies ) to fight
with bad customers who bought your online product using credit card
and ask money back through their bank?

May be there is some rules like for a example customer can ask charge
back not later then within 7 days after purchasing or you can expect
charge back from any customer any time?

There is very little you can do.
You may want to take a look at the article here:
http://www.gold-age.net/ldf/ThemeStreamArticle-01-2001.html

If you are an online business /or your business falls into certain
catagories the credit card industry does not give a damn (they either
screw the customer or they screw the merchant so they usually get their
money either way); plus if you are using 3rd party intermediaries
(instead of a direct merchant account), you have other issues to contend
with as well.

Sometimes it can be worthwhile to chase things down, but if you are
having a large chargeback problem you need to re-evaluate the way you
process orders or perhaps reconsider accepting the plactic crap altogether.

If you have U.S. banking arrangement and you wish to accept credit cards
you might want to consider ProPay
https://epay.propay.com/cgi/appProcess1.exe/signup?QnTMJOYwhJibfsRS%20
. . . even though they are a 3rd party intermediary , they function
almost just like a direct merchant account.
They are nice for the small-time operator just getting started, and can
ben easily scaled up as your business grows.
One thing that is nice about ProPay is that you have the option to
gather all the credit card info yourself and do your own prescreening
fraud control -- be extra paranoid when processing credit card info. . .
. treat every credit card order (from new customers) as if it were
coming from a known criminal.

You may also want to look into EZCmoney as a way to accept payments
online. They don't do credit cards, but they make a great processor of
checks, MO's, wires, etc. and they guarrantee the funds that they pay to
you for your orders processed through them (checks can be just as
problematic as credit cards and it's nice to have a filtering service
between you and the bank that guarrantees payment, even if it turns out
later that they were cheated by they cheque writer).

A U.K. option for debit cards is NoChex.com (they will be expanding to
the U.S. in the near future . . . so they say), though there is still
the issue of potential chargebacks.

What it boils down to is that Credit Cards suck as a means of payment
for many merchants. Even if the merchant is bringing in lots of good
business via credit card payments, many merchants find that the extra
hassles and hidden costs of the current cc payment system often
outweigh the benefits. (to be fair, some merchants don't have to give a
second thought to cc-fraud -- like a little flower shop lady I know; she
has not had a single bad cc order in 18 years -- though she has to
haggle agressively every few years {despite her 0% fraud problem} with
her merchant processor to keep her costs down).

The opposite of this is of course e-gold, GoldMoney, and EZCmoney which
are awesome! With e-gold, GoldMoney EZCmoney you have NO CHARGEBACKS,
NO HASSELS, NO PROBLEMS!

What I was trying to imply, in as few words as possible, is that an

[e-gold-list] RE:RE: Funbond Yields -- Options/Futures?

2001-11-21 Thread GoldCom Admin.

 Subject: Re: Funbond yields
 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Regarding the nomenclature, I don't think futures would make much sense, Jim.

Firstly, futures apply only to commodites (things, like sugar, wheat
etc), futures have no relevance to equities .. equities being
companies, organizations, people, LLCs, public companies etc.

-- lyris duster -- :-)

You cant buy a future of IBM, it's meaningless. Similarly you
can't buy a bond of Wheat or from Wheat, it's meaningless.
indeed you dont buy futures at all (they dont cost money, you dont
pay anything when you take one)
 [. . . a future. . .] is a contract exchanged with another trader.
In contrast a bond is something you buy, for a certain amount of
money, from an entity like IBM or egold. So thats exactly what a funbond is.

While I haven't traded commodities futures, I have fiddled around with
options (which
apply to equities) and my uderstanding is that options are essentially
the same thing
as futures --a contract giving you the 'option' to buy or sell
something at a specified
'future' date.

You can actually buy options on futures, which is like buying an option
of an option.
I hear in some commodities circles that they feel the futures system
should be done
away with and replaced with the options system that has evolved --
thereby creating a
common lingo and more uniform standards.

Another thing. While it is possible to set up private futures/options
that may not cost anything
upfront, it does cost to deal in the publically traded options/futures
-- and if you're shrewd,
you can make a lot starting with very little (I'm still working on the
shrewd part . . . :-) )

actually strengthen it in the long run -- therefore my post was a
positive one and did not involve fear-mongering in anyway.

[e-gold-list] Dubai/e-gold/e-dinar/ end of incest

2001-10-07 Thread GoldCom Admin.

I think I finally figured out why E-gold has been losing bars while the
other GBC have been growing rapidly since the attack. About one half of
E-Gold's gold, is in Dubai! How safe will that gold be in the coming months,
if the Arab nations become united against the US?
---

Since e-dinar is e-gold is e-dinar is e-gold, at the moment, the
integrity of the e-gold system is not particularly hurt by the Dubai
holdings (though one's first thought is otherwise). Even if the current
bad political climate worsens in this regard. It would most likely
simply hasten the intended complete split of e-gold and e-dinar into two
completely separate, non-incestuous entities and strengthen their
relative positions with the various groups that would feel catered to --
e-dinar for the Islamic World and e-gold for the Western World.

P.P.S.: Let me emphasize that I do not speak for e-gold, or e-dinar. The
above is just my opinion based on observations of current events, and
past discussions with various individuals in the digital gold community.

P.S.: After recent (late July 2001 Early August 2001) discussions with
PayPal upper management I decided to give PayPal a third chance for use
on a new site I'm developing (the shopping cart system I'm using already
had a nice interface for PayPal built in). Well, in the mean time, while
I'm working on the site, I used the new PayPal account to pay for some
auction items on ebay. A few days after I paid for these items via
PayPal, I found my PayPal account frozen -- no explanations or anything.
NEVER AGAIN! NEVER AGAIN! SCREW PAYPAL!!!

[e-gold-list] Misc Topics 1 of 4

2001-08-01 Thread GoldCom Admin.

I would like to address several issues in this little monolog that I've
noticed keep coming up on the e-gold list and elsewhere -- some of this
healthy discussion spurred on by Mr. Julian Dibbel of Wired Magazine.

For convenience, and to prevent the posting of a book as a single
posting, I will break up my discussion into 4 postings.

1.) The apparrent, current prevalence of HYIP other Ponzi Scams with
today's electronic GBC's.
2.) Current lack of traditional merchant acceptance of the current
electronic GBC'savailable.
3.) Cost of getting into the currently available electronic GBC's.
And 4.) My own ramblings on the future of electronic GBC's

-

Posting 1 of 4.) The apparrent, current prevalence of HYIP other Ponzi
Scams with today's electronic GBC's.

The prevalence of HYIP, MLM, and such is no more or less prevalent than
it is with ColdHardCash in any of the major national currencies in use
today, and in the broadest sense is an irrelevant issue. For example: at
several of the E-mail addresses that I have, the ones that have been
around for over a year and that I use a little loosely seem to attract
on averageTEN to FIFTEEN solicitations a week (how, I get on these
lists I don't know) for participation in various MLM/Chain letter type
schemes that usually say [to paraphrase their tediously long hook
letters] something like send five dollars cash to each of the 5 people
below, move everyone's name/address down a notch (errasing the last one)
and put yourself in the top position. I also get one or two of these
solicitations a month in the regular, hand-delivered, mail -- you know
that wastefull stuff on some material called paper that guys gals in
funny clothes deliver to you as they run around the world in planes,
trains, and automobilies.

Notice I said cash -- not e-gold, not GoldMoney, or any other
electronic GBC. That being the case . . . no one harasses the Federal
Reserve, or the central banks, or the governments of various countries
about what some idiot does with the money of their country; and as a
corollary suggest that the national currency in question (be it USD, DM,
BP, Yen, whatever) should not be used , or is questionable because
idiots and schmucks use it, as well the average Joe. And no one suggests
that the postal system should not be used just because idiots smucks
use it as well as good, honest, hardworking people. On average I might
get 1 solicitation every other month via E-mail for similar schemes that
try to do the same thing using e-gold (I know others may get more or
less -- this is just my experience).

On a side note, these HYIP, MLM, and such are rampant on PayPal (maybe
even more so than with e-gold or GoldMoney). In case you don't know
PayPal's web site is www.paypal.com. PayPal has a similar dim view of
these things as does e-gold, GoldMoney, or as any thinking person might
have, and PayPal forbids the use of their system for such purposes --
but that doesn't stop people from using it for such. However, no one
gives PayPal a hard time about the the various HYIP, MLM, and other
phooey that their system is used for. Though people do get on PayPal's
case for other reasons -- see link to another of my articles below

Perhaps the reason people like to JumpOn GBC's at the slightest
provocation these days is that the average person today does not really
understand money. Gold evokes a viceral response --laying bare their
misunderstanding, and its consequences, to their psyche. This errosion
of understanding, in the United States, is linked to the errosion of
Property Rights and the degredation of the U.S. Constitution; which
occurred with vigor under the Reign of Abraham Lincoln (term from
1861-1865), and accellerated with earnest under Franklin Roosevelt's
Reign 1933-1934 -- but that's a topic for later . . . I'm thinking of
making a book out of it.

I do have a bit of a gripe with PayPal, but they seem to be slowly
(very slowly) getting their house of cards in order. For a look at my
experience with PayPal, take a look at this article.
 http://www.gold-age.net/ldf/ThemeStreamArticle-01-2001.html
None of the problems (non-payment, chargebacks, etc...) that occur with
PayPal can happen with e-gold or GoldMoney, because with e-gold
GoldMoney there is no credit -- you get paid, you stay paid.

Anyway, getting back on track to the topic at hand.. . HYIP, MLM, and
such will use whatever payment system and currency they can. Their
presence is irrelevant and should not be part of any discussion
evaluating the merits and use of any payment system, be it backed by
gold, silver, BuckeyBalls, or ethereal National Currencies of various
countries.

 . . .and accellerated with earnest under Franklin Roosevelt's Reign 1933-1934 . . .

CORRECTION

I misstyped in my original message.

Franklin Roosevelt's term of Presidency in the US was 1933 to 1944 --
an unprecedented (and now outlawed) 3 terms in office . . . just goes to
show you how popular CandyStripers are, even when they're stealing the
candy that they are giving away to someone else . Or should I say
ESPECIALLY when they are stealing stuff and giving it to someone else --
like the misunderstood legend of RobinHood. The legend of Robin Hood, if
you look at the historical context and facts of the time is not a
simple, sappy story of class envy altruism; rather it is a story of
Tax Revolt!

[e-gold-list] Thankyou

2001-07-25 Thread GoldCom Admin.

Well, it took a little over 20 minutes to download all my E-mail this
morning -- most of it consisted of hundreds of messages (sent in
response to my posting yesterday on the list and on free-market.net)
received in the past 24 hours offering sympathies/advice/and the like
concerning the SS raid and the partial return of my property.

Thank you everyone for your support, and thank you to everyone who has
sent messages and voice mails over the past serveral months -- pitching
in words of support. I haven't haven't had time to respond to all the
messages that I've receive, but we read or listen to all the messages
that we receive. Thank you! my wife and I greatly appreciate it.

I would also like to give special thanks to JMR JPM -- two wonderful
individuals whom I have yet to meet, yet have provided strong support
encouragement in word and deed as if they were a close family member.

Thanks again, and note that although Gold-Age is dead, other things are
rising in its ashes.
