flex project

2005-03-09 Thread Nate Nielsen

i'm looking for 2-3 flex coders to do somehourly
contract work.

i would prefer you to be local to the dallas / ft
worth, TX area for some meetings, but all of the work will be done from
your location via telecommuting.  if you are able to drive to DFW for
meetings roughly once a week but live/work further out, that shouldn't be a
problem.

if you currently have a part time / full time job
elsewhere and want some flex work for extra cash or experience, that is
acceptable.  (i.e. don't have to quit your day job if you are already
engaged 8-5).  but I am looking for people with a minimum of 20 hours a
week to spare on this project.

you will be part of a team that is building an
exciting new e-commerce .com that will be emerging shortly.  this is an
awesome chance to work on a high profile --fully-- flex site that will actually
be open to the public!   (perhaps the first large scale flex B2C
.com!)

if you are interested, please send a resume or
skills summary along with details of your flex experience and any URLs you might
have OFF LIST to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

thanks

[flexcoders]Flex Project Nature

2007-01-08 Thread dorkie dork from dorktown

I cannot find information on Flex Project nature anywhere. The company I
work for has an existing Java project that I am now doing parts of the front
end in Flex. I have been wondering if it's possible to combine Flex behavior
to the Java project and put mxml applications in certain directories of it
(/web) and deploy them both together when I noticed the "Flex Project
Nature" option in the context menu. In the case that I missed them in
obvious location please send a link.

Can anyone recommend a project structure? Maybe a tut or blog post on
the topic? We have several components (as and mxml) that we want to

we all share the files? Is a Flex Project the best way? We are using

Would like to build an Ant task that fetches all the files and builds
the structure once we establish what that structure should be.

Thanks in advance.

sorry, i meant to mention the technology details :

flex 1.5

cold fusion mx 7

ms sql

-most of the back end will be coded by a different
team, so the primary importance is flex 1.5 and enough knowledge of CF to manage
communications via flash remoting and/or web services (no big
deal).

[flexcoders] Flex Project Metrics ?

2005-04-22 Thread r0main

Hello,
has anyone an idea on how I can get metrics an MXML and AS2 files on a
given flex project ?
Yet all I can do is count my files (43 mxml views, 351 AS files w/o
FlexUnit tests), but I'd like to have codelines per files, total
codelines, average by package etc...

Idea ?

Thanks, romain

RE: [flexcoders] Flex Project Struture

2008-09-16 Thread Ryan Graham

If you're using a framework like Cairngorm or Cairngorm with Extensions,
there are already recommended project structures. If you aren't using an
existing framework, then everyone will have to be on the same page with
the dev methodologies and conventions that you all have agreed upon as a
team. There should be no issues using a flex project with your given
setup, but it may be worth noting that you may want to stay away from
including any flex builder specific files in the SVN, as everyone has
their own dev environment setup the way they like it as far as
workspaces and such are concerned, and that leaves the project open to
developers who may be using the sdk and command line to compile by
reducing flex builder dependencies.

Aside from that, I'd say it's good to keep all your view components and
sealed classes for your model together (minimally), and any external or
embedded assets in a separate folder defined as an additional source
folder so they will still get copied to the bin when building. All this
could of course be accomplished through ANT though if you want to go
that route.  Brief example:

etc
--assets
--config
src
--components
--view
--model
...

The possibilities are really endless, but as long as everyone agrees on
the project structure, you shouldn't have any problems. This is where
existing frameworks can help take the headache out of things -- by
providing a known structure up front.

Ryan

Ryan, I'm curious about how you separate the Flex Builder project files from
the source code (and asset files) in your projects so that the former
doesn't get into SVN with the later. I've tried various ways of setting up
links etc and FB doesn't seem to like any of them.

He's talking about the . dot files that are hidden;

.flexProperties
.actionScriptProperties
.project
.settings
.flexLibSettings

etc.

RE: [flexcoders] Flex Project Struture

2008-09-17 Thread Ryan Graham

Usually this is setup through the Project Properties. I add another
top-level folder for anything the app needs to consume at runtime (like
an "etc" folder) and perhaps another that the app needs to consume at
compile time like embedded assets (like an "includes" folder -- it's up
to you):

Project >> Properties >> Flex Build Path >> Source Path >> Add Folder...

To have files copied to the bin when building, don't forget to check:

Project >> Properties >> Flex Compiler >> Copy non-embedded files to
output folder

Then you have the option of including these folders in SVN or leaving
them local to the working copy...

In my experience though, when another dev checks out the project, they
have to set up these folder associations for their working copy in FB,
so I might put a README.txt in the root of the project detailing the
expected setup. This seems kinda clunky though -- if anyone knows what
to do to persist these settings through the SVN, I'd love to know. I
know ANT is always an option, but sometimes its nice to not have to muck
with it.

HTH,
Ryan

What about sharing components. For instance, we have a project just
completed with several as components. We want to use some of those
same AS components, but don't want to copy them to our new projects
directory since when changes are made in the AS components for the old
project we need them to show up in our new project. So we want to
point to the same library or folder for both applications.

[flexcoders] maven compile flex project

2009-04-02 Thread Fernando Wermus
Hi Folks,
  I am looking for a maven plugin and a pom.xml example for compiling
and for generating a swf.
  Which is the best plugin you have tested it?
  Do you have an example which compile, generate swf and copy to another
project the swf file generated? I am needing to integrate with several
projects in the same workspace too.

Thanks in advance!

[flexcoders] Problem opening Flex project

2008-11-25 Thread markgoldin_2000
Opening Flex Builder all of a sudden I was presented with a new
configuration like I have never done any development yet with this
installation. I am trying to import my project. I am selecting a
project folder, and it takes it fine, but selecting same folder for
project location does not even enable Finish button. If I choose
default option then a new folder with a name of my project is created
inside of my project folder (dont know why) but Import dialog is not
closing. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

[flexcoders] error compiling flex project

2009-10-29 Thread Greg Morphis
I have an ANT script which compiles a Flex 2 project and it's giving
me an error:

compile:

[java] C:\Temp\RetailForms\index.mxml: Error: Unable to locate

Here's my ANT script

Can you tell me what's wrong with it? Thanks!

[flexcoders] Re: Flex Project Hosting

2010-02-10 Thread valdhor
It depends on what you are going to use for your data gateway. Generally Flex
apps are data driven.

If, on the other hand, you do not need data access then flex compiles to a
standard Flash SWF file which can be hosted anywhere.

[flexcoders] Re: Flex Project Hosting

2010-02-10 Thread Laurence
If your host can send a .SWF file to the client's browser, you can run a simple
Flex program.

If you want the program to do anything useful, like storing data on the server,
for example, the host needs to offer back-end support for ColdFusion, and some
sort of SQL database. There are many other back-ends that will work also
(besides ColdFusion), but I'm not knowledgeable enough to list them all here...
 Someone else, I'm sure, will have that info.

[flexcoders] Flex Project Management App

2010-07-08 Thread Angelo Anolin
Hi FlexCoders,

I came across a Flex PM site and I would like to ask what are the necessary
controls / things I need to do to achieve the same application.

The site's page is:

http://www.radscientist.com/flexpm/demo/index.html

I am having problems re-creating those items which expands when the plus sign
is
clicked as well as adding new items when the Add Milestone button is clicked.
 How do I achieve adding controls on the fly on the application?

I hope you could provide some guidance on this.

Thanks.

[flexcoders] actionscript class in Flex project

2007-09-29 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I have an action script file of an animated ball. 20 is added to x on
every frame. If I create an actionscript project and run it, it works
fine. Now how do I include this class in a flex project ?

If I create a mxml file like this I thought it would have the ball in
it. It runs, but there is not ball, no errors no nothing. The code for
the ball is below

http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml";
layout="absolute" initialize="init()" xmlns:com="com.*">

package com {
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.events.Event;

public class AnimatedBall extends Sprite {
private var ball:Sprite;

public function AnimatedBall() {
init();
}
private function init():void {
ball = new Sprite();
addChild(ball);
ball.graphics.beginFill(0xff);
ball.graphics.drawCircle(0, 0, 40);
ball.x = 20;

ball.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,
onEnterFrame);
}
private function onEnterFrame(event:Event):void {
ball.x++;
}
}
}

If you are using Subclipse in Flex Builder, it does a pretty good job of
automatically leaving out said files. Here are some for example in a
standard Flex Project folder:

*
.settings folder
*
.actionScriptProperties
*
.flexProperties
*
.project

Have you tried making a linked folder in the src directory? File > New >

your project to that folder. Haven't tried it myself, not sure how the
compiler is going to like it.

The other option would be to put the alias in the operating system, using
junctions in Windows or aliases/symlinks in OS X/Linux. I would expect the
compiler to have no issues with those as the operating system should make
them appear as real directories to the program.

these .files suck for distributed teams though, unless you force all your
devs to use the same exact resource setup, something I'm loathed to here any
manager tell me  :)

use svn:ignore to ignore files and not include them in your SVN repos. In
Subclipse, right click the file or dir and choose Team > add to svn:ignore.
Of course you can't have already added this file or dir to SVN. If you have
already added it and want to pull it out and ignore it, you can copy it
elsewhere, delete, commit, copy back, then ignore it.

One trick I picked up recently from a co-worker was to rename these files
and add them to SVN, this way they can be used as templates.

eg rename .actionScriptProperties to .actionscriptProperties_Template.

Re: [flexcoders] Re: Flex Project Struture

Yeah that trick's not bad, that's what we're doing for build.properties etc.
I find in *most* cases there's nothing system-specific in our
.actionscriptProperties (mainly defines and keep-as3-metadata, etc), so we
get away with it :)

What isn't any fun, is that there's *something*, *somewhere* that will cause
Player/Builder to not put your app into the priviledged list if you copy or
import too much into your project :( And that nobody seems to know exactly
what it is that causes it doesn't help much.

RE: [flexcoders] Re: Flex Project Struture

2008-09-18 Thread Ryan Graham

That sounds like a good path to follow -- especially if you set up
automated ANT builds for your flex library project, perhaps once or
twice a day. That way, any apps consuming the library will always be
referencing a current build. This could result in runtime errors for
older projects though if you begin changing the interfaces for the
components contained in the library. At that point you could try
checking out the flex library project from the SVN, building, and then
linking the flex library project to your main flex project. This should
allow you to have a snapshot of the library that you know will work with
the flex project at that point in time.

Hi,
I've used flexmojos on the Jspresso Java/Flex/Ajax framework. The integration
was really painless and the plugin coverage is impressive. It sometimes lacks
detailed documentation, but this is something Sonatype and VELO are improving.
It really stands out.

By the way, if you are working with a Java backend and are fed-up with
model-view synchronization and value-objects, you should give a try to the
latest release of the Jspresso RIA framework (LGPL).

[flexcoders] Re: maven compile flex project

2009-04-06 Thread vvandens
Hi Jonas,
It's always good to talk about design ;-)

So let me clarify (hopefuly) my thoughts. When we talk about MVC, I think that
there are actually 2 different patterns.

Look at Swing or Flex for instance. They both implement the MVC pattern (maybe
more MV with a tiny c), right? Their architecture is strongly related to the
Observer/Observed pattern where the model (Swing model / flex dataprovider)
notifies its listeners (the gui components) about its changes. Then, the view
just adapt itself based on the notification it recieves (e.g. an element added
in a collection). This allows to build rich domain models where the OO
principles (mainly encapsulation here) are strongly enforced. Your business
objects live on their own, have their business rules and preserve their
integrity.
For instance, a table cell editing will set the underlying property of the
object that may in turn update some other part of the model under its
responsibility, that will in turn notify some different part of the GUI and
everything is in sync without anyone having to know the dependency graph. So
far so good.

But all this is fine and easily implemented in a single memory space (the java
VM or the Flash one).

Now comes the the client/server distribution. One /old but still useful/ kind
of approach is to have a pixel-based distribution (X, VNC, Citrix metaframe).
The application actually runs on the server (with all the GUI stuff minus some
optimizations) and notifications occur based on painting changes. Sync is
perfect (actually "synchronized") but it is server-resources and bandwith
killing (minus some optimizations). Encapsulation is respected.

Now comes the /2nd/ MVC pattern introduced with webapps (mainly Struts in the
Java world ?), where the model is not responsible of notifying the view anymore
and everything is based on the following scheme : request -> controller ->
service (action) -> model -> and... something has to know exactly *what* has
been modified on the model and *what* part of the view has to change based on
these modifications. This somehow breaks the OO encapsulation and the nice
Observer/Observed pattern. It then leads to thin, not to say anorexic, domain
models where your domain objects become more or less value objects (because you
don't want them to update something that you won't transparently be notified
of) and all the intelligence is on the controller part (service included). But
the good news is that such an architecture is scalable without over-killing
infrastructure.

With rich clients (i.e. Flex and Swing) comes the extra burden of transfering
the state back and forth (the value objects). It may be fine with a simple
(thin, anorexic) model since you can generate your VOs based on your /real/
business objects that actually live on the server. But now, your client *has to
know what* to send to the server on the next round-trip and *when*. Moreover,
notifications of problems (or updates) issued from server-side computations are
delayed until the service request comes back. This is much how the Web (and the
classic webapps) actually work, no ? The request-response scheme on a service
basis.

The idea I would like to submit is the following : Is there a design in between
that :
1/ allows me to keep a rich, encapsulated, service aware, domain model; so that
I can reuse it across different frontends (even faceless ones), different
applications and all that without re-coding rules that are business domain
scoped.
2/ is scalable (at least no actual GUI code running on the server)
3/ garantees synchronization with the view whithout having to break
encapsulation and let me develop as if I were in a single VM (the Swing or Flex
MVC). In that case, the client-server distribution (and GUI deployment) remains
an implementation detail instead of being a first citizen of the architecture.

In other words, I'm looking for a seamlessly distributed Observer/Observed
pattern.

At least in Java, there are a bunch of library projects that implements this
kind of server-centric, event-driven, GUI development - Canoo ULC , WingS
(Ajax), Eclipse RAP. They are great but they still consume quite some memory on
the server since they mimic the complete UI library with faceless objects (that
have a size, colors, event listeners, ...).

What I've done in Jspresso is keeping a minimalistic UI state on the server
that is able to comunicate seamlessly with a flex generic UI engine. All they
exchange are technology agnostic commands (generic framework-scoped events).

The caveats :
- minimize the network round-trips
- keep a request-response scheme (avoid server push of notifications) but on an
event basis.
Both are avoided by buffering the server-generated events and send them back
with the response. On the server-side, all you need is a single BlazeDS
RemoteObject endpoint that is your event dispatcher.

Sorry for the (very) long answer.

Any thoughts, remarks ? Did I loos

Re: [flexcoders] Re: Flex Project Hosting

2010-02-10 Thread Vasudev
As Laurence said, any normal hosting providers can host your swf file (Flex
after all throws a SWF file). Flex/ Flash CS4 are just IDEs both finally
build a swf file only. Flex builder is just a name to differentiate the IDEs.
So normally any hosting providers can host your swf files.

There are number of ways to connect your flex/flash applications with the
Database...Say if you are using Java as the back end, use Blaze DS, Web ORB  to
connect Database, For PHP there is AMFPHP, ZendAMF etc. Or using XML and Http
Services we can achieve the same task with any programming language.

I was now asking on the controls which were used. Sort of AddChild for each

I would create a custom component that has all of the features of the milestone
encapsulated. ie. The plus button, the label, the datagrid, the add and remove
tasks buttons etc.

I would also have a custom component comprising of the datagrid and its sub
components.

All you would need to do when someone clicks the add milestone button is to
create a new instance of the custom component and add it to the display list.

[flexcoders] Re: Flex Project Management App

2010-07-12 Thread Netaman
You can create a array of component names such as;
spark.components.Button
spark.components.TextInput
spark.components.CheckBox
spark.components.Label
spark.components.RadioButton
spark.components.DropDownList
mx.controls.DataGrid
spark.components.TextArea
mx.controls.DateField
then pass want you want into this function;
   private function makeElement(className:String,
COMPONENTID:String):UIComponent {
var objClass:Class = getDefinitionByName( className ) as Class;

if( objClass != null ) {
var newObject:UIComponent = UIComponent( new objClass() );
newObject.id = COMPONENTID;
newObject.name = COMPONENTID;
return newObject;
}
else
return null;
}

then create a switch that looks at the resulting element and add any styles, or
other properties to the element, or other elements, and add then to your
container. The dropdown and datagrid will require extra code to provide a
dataprovider, and you will have to add the default skin by a setStyle, but that
should get you going in the right direction.

one cavot is that the id is not searchable you will have to search by name in
the container, if you want to change the element after you add it to the
container.

I create elements dynamically by quering a database to create the elements
needed in a flex applicaton, the structure and flow of forms are all in the
database and I use flex to create the components on the fly...

RE: [flexcoders] actionscript class in Flex project

I'm surprised there is no error (I didn't try it though). Sprites can't
be children of Applications. The rules in Flex are:

Navigator children must be Containers

Container children must be IUIComponents

UIComponent children can be anything.

There are also component lifecycle behaviors you have to know about to
be a good flex component, such as which methods to override when, and
that you are sized by your parent.

When you compile AnimatedBall as its own project, you get a small swf
with the Ball as the main class at a default size of 500x375.

When you make it a child of Application, you should normally get an
error, but if you subclass UIComponent you'll get further, but you'll
also need to specify a size for it.

So, change "extends Sprite" to "extends UIComponent" and size the tag
something like

You cant do it with Apache's Web Server. You need an application server like
Tomcat, WebSphere, JRun or Weblogic, etc...

Actually what you can do is download and install FDS Express and see how they
do it.

I'm not so sure this is true. If you are using the Flex Data Services
then yes, you need a JE container, however if you are not, ANY webserver
can serve up a Flex project. I've never used a JE container with Flex,
just been using Apache.

need the flex data services yet so its fine by me.

[flexcoders] Open source question.. regarding Flex project 2007

2008-12-01 Thread bladev_devbla
Does anyone know how to solve this possible legal issue.

I created a website I wish to fully open source. The programmer and I
both own shared rights to code in our area's (mine: front, his:
functionality). Recently he has simply gone round me and published on
the front-end which was my section with regards to e.g. authorship,
copyright law here in the Netherlands. (he earns money off doing this
of course.. basically at my expense )

My question is..

Can I simply publish the whole project for developers 'open source' or
do I still need some kind of permission from him?? do I need it
anymore, at all, ever?

We had no formal contracts, I see it this way; the trust has been
broken so I don't feel I need his permission anymore.. if at all, but
am curious what you all think..

Kind regards, Sam

As Laurence said, any normal hosting providers can host your swf file (Flex
after all throws a SWF file). Flex/ Flash CS4 are just IDEs both finally
build a swf file only. Flex builder is just a name to differentiate the
IDEs. So normally any hosting providers can host your swf files.

There are number of ways to connect your flex/flash applications with the
Database...Say if you are using Java as the back end, use Blaze DS, Web ORB
to connect Database, For PHP there is AMFPHP, ZendAMF etc. Or using XML and
Http Services we can achieve the same task with any programming language.

If your host can send a .SWF file to the client's browser, you can run a
simple Flex program.

If you want the program to do anything useful, like storing data on the
server, for example, the host needs to offer back-end support for
ColdFusion, and some sort of SQL database. There are many other back-ends
that will work also (besides ColdFusion), but I'm not knowledgeable enough
to list them all here... Someone else, I'm sure, will have that info.

[flexcoders] Convert Non-server Flex Project to Server Project

2007-05-07 Thread Jurgen Beck
Is there a way to convert a non-server Flex project to a server project?
When setting up a Flex project I can of course select the type. However,
I need to convert a Basic Flex Project to a Flex Data Services project.
Seems like the in the Flex properties for the project the Flex Server
items are disabled when not creating the project as a FDS project from
the start.

I could import all the files to a newly created FDS project, but that
seems a bit unintuitive.

Thanks,

Jurgen

I have seen numerous ways to load XML but not directly from a project. Doesn't

In the web application depending on what the user clicks I want to load the

[flexcoders] Cairngorm and multiple Applications in a Single Flex Project

2007-10-04 Thread superabe superabe
I am starting the planning process for a project that, in its current vision
is a web site with 8-10 pages that each will contain a Flex application that
makes up most of the page.
I would like to use a single Flex Project for these applications that has
the 8-10 application MXML files and then the common code-base that they
share.

I am wondering if/how folks on this list have used Cairngorm in this
scenario. Does it make sense to have a distinct Controller / ModelLocater
per Application, or is it better to have a single Controller / ModelLocator

I could import all the files to a newly created FDS project, but that
seems a bit unintuitive.

I've also successfully done it by editing the .project and .flexproperties

[flexcoders] Flex Project to be converted to run on WebOrb

2008-10-10 Thread Eric Dunn
Hello all,

Does anyone know how to convert a Flex Project to run on a server that was not
originally configured to do so?

I have a project that that is currently configured to standalone. I have been
playing with WebOrb and would like to convert this existing project to run in
WebOrb. The Flex Server section in the project Properties is disabled...

Any ideas other than creating a new project with WebOrb and then pasting the
existing code into the new project?

 Unless I misunderstood the question, you were not asking for a code

 I would just click and drag it from my OS into the Eclipse directory
structure.
 Or do it at the operating system level w/o involving eclipse at all.

[flexcoders] Re: Load/parse XML file stored in flex project

2010-01-28 Thread aramsdell2000
Unless there is a better way, I used

var myXML:XML;
var myLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
myLoader.load(new URLRequest("com/assets/hyperlinks.xml"));
myLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, processXML);

Part of my problem was not escaping the &s in the xml and naming the folder
where it is stored wrong. It always helps to have the right xml structure in
place :), unfortunately I didn't see any obvious hints as to what was failing.

[flexcoders] add actionscript project as a library to a flex project

I have an AS Project in FB2, which I would like to use as a library in

I tried using the "Add Project" option in the project properties for FB2,

I get the "No Flex Library Project Exists" error dialog.

Any ideas on how I can achieve this (without having to create a swc) ?

What's the reasoning for not having a single Flex app with 8-10 view states
(say, using a ViewStack).
You could set the state from JavaScript, for instance.

Easier to manage single apps/swfs.
These fit into a AJAX/DHTML navigation frame, giving us the flexibility to
replace the swfs with HTML/AJAX/Silverlight equivalents in the future,
should we choose to do so. They can really be considered as standalone mini
applications that share a common component library. Very minimal state
information that needs to be shared among them.

All you need to do is update your compiler settings to use the
remoting-config.xml and services-config.xml files. Something like:

-locale en_US -services "services-config.xml"

Make sure your xml files are set up to point to your server.

Then create your remote objects in ActionScript and use them.
Something like:

environmentservice = new RemoteObject("CommonFunctionsDestination");
environmentservice.requestTimeout = 30;
environmentservice.getEnvironmentVariables.addEventListener(ResultEvent.RESULT,
EnvironmentHandler);
environmentservice.addEventListener(FaultEvent.FAULT, faultHandler);
environmentservice.getEnvironmentVariables();

You can override the server settings required for weborb by adding the
context root parameter to the compiler.

-compiler.context-root={POINT_TO_weborb\web-inf\flex}

If you want the xml compiled in to the swf, use

If you want the xml read at runtime, use HTTPService. The url can be

[flexcoders] Actionscript Project > Flex Project How does the display list change?

2010-04-17 Thread Clark Stevenson
Hey guys.

Say your familiar with Flash document Class. Flash Develop or Flex
actionscript projects in that your not so familiar with MXML.

You take this class

package
{
 public class MyGraphic extends Sprite
 {

  private var customSprite:Sprite;

  public function MyGraphic()
  {
  super();
  }

 }
}

Ok heres the issue. If i start a new Flex Project because i want to combine
either an existing complex project or branch my application out to pure AS3
yet i want to retain the functionality of MXML for a form or a games room
etc.

How can i do this?

I remember last time i tried it was awkward. MyGraphic needed to extend
UIComponent but then it got awkward because customSprite needed to also be a
UIComponent so i never found a way to combine them. Likewise, i read about a
rather obscure addRawChild() method but it seemed like a hack or frowned
apon.

That has something to do with the display list?

Is there any sources which i can read that deal with AS3 OOP TO Flex MXML
instead of treating you like you dont know what actionscript 3.0 is and
concentrating on MXML only? I cannot find the relationship or common
functionality between the 2 different approaches. If i go with MXML im stuck
in modular with supporting actionscript, or if go with only AS3 i
have no access to the framework.

Cheers.

Clark.

Open up the new Flex project dialog box. In the location field, hunt
down the folder that contains the downloaded content. When you have it
set up, you should right-click the mxml file and set it as the default
application. If you create a new project, FB 3 might create a /src/
folder with an empty mxml file. You can delete that.

Jurgen

You can simplify passing new arguments to your basic project

Like -services "config-mine.xml"

Where this config-mine.xml has the Points to the Server-Side like FDS for
example

many ways to do the same

The differents between the 3 options it's only passing new arguments to the
compiler in the Flex Project > Properities > Flex Compiler window tab.

[flexcoders] Guidance Needed about the organization of flex project and MXML Componenets

2009-01-23 Thread anuj181
Hi Flex Coders,
I have been taken over one project started by some other programmer,
The project asks user to login and after user logs in , different custom
MXML Components are loaded. Thats the bigger picture what the project
needs to do.
  The way this project was organized that the developer created the login
component , and other custom MXML Component and put them in different
canvases and then put login in one ViewStack and the other MXML
Componenets in another stack, By default on the load of the application,
ViewStack with login Canvas is set to true and if user enter right
password then the visibility of other stack having different custom
components are set to true and login was set to false.
The ToggleButtonBar was used whose data provider is second view stack
having 3 other custom MXML component, and depending upon the button of
the toggle bar selected the components are being loaded. All the
viewstacks with the canvases are being loaded on the main app on the
load of the application.

  I am not sure thats the right way. In ideal world I like whenever user
loads the page, only the login page will be loaded and once the correct
credentials are entered, only the default MXML Component will be added
with the ToggleButtonBar's default selection, I have to reorganize the
structure of the project, I was thinking of adding and removing child
depending upon the tab changed, Is there any better way to organize this
project, Ideally I like to refresh the page while loading different MXML
components on the tab selection so that we might get the component
totally in synchronization with the server, Anyone has nice and better
way of organizing Project without setting the visibility true and false
and also fulfilling my requirement.
Any Help and guidance will be appreciated
Thanks
Anuj

You can use MXML w/o the Flex Framework. You may need to create classes that
implement IMXMLObject to do so, but it is possible.

But if you want to use the Flex Framework, then all things you add must follow
the framework rules so it must implement IUIComponent.

Hi Alexander

you could start looking at Code Google
and

www.riaforge.com
www.osflash.org

Best.

  Hi all!
My name is Alexander.

I have a passion for Flex and I'd like to participate in open source
flex project.

I have 2 years experience with server-side java (Struts, JSF and
Hibernate) and a little experience with Eclipse RCP.

I am searching for open source flex project where I can avail and can
improve my Flex skills.

Hi Alex,

It sounds like OpenAMF might be a good place to start as well. I would
personally like to see more support (documentation, installation docs) on
this project. Let me know what you decide (contact offlist).

The buni.org project is also looking for volunteers. They have a Flex 2
based email client.

Re: [flexcoders] Java developer is glad to participate in open source Flex project.

2007-02-13 Thread Chris Allen

Why use OpenAMF when it hasn't been updated in quite a while? I say come
help us out with Red5 (http://osflash.org/red5). It does the same things
that OpenAMF does and much much more; it is also currently being developed.
Please fill out the sign up form on the site and send it to John and me.
