What is the best amenity key for such buildings? community_centre or social_centre ? It seems that the community centre is the most suitable, but the place is not only for parties. What is in fact the real difference between social and community centre ? Welcome back Bart! I believe it's better to focus on http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/** wiki/Proposed_features/social_**facilityhttp://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposed_features/social_facilityinstead if that you think about makes you consider using social_centre; social_centre seems to be out of favor, The wiki is much more clear on social_facility, it should be fairly obvious what that is/and isn't once you read that description, it's more clearly explained. In general, it is more like some sort of shelter-like service (generalistic). community centre is used for official type of amenities like city/town hall (e.g. stadhuis/gemeentehuis) , See http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/**wiki/Community_centrehttp://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Community_centre For what you are thinking of, e.g. jeugdhuizen, feestzalen etc. I would consider a combination with these: amenity=community_center as you propose, it looks like the better match. You could elaborate with 'operator' (e.g. Chiro for example) and / or 'name' , So it shows on the map (with building=yes, that should be enough) I figured there would have been a more descriptive way to do this, like one would use key 'tourism' for a bedbreakfast, but I cannot see something that better suits the goal. [OSM-talk] Where should OSM announcements happen? Was: Upgraded map controls
So, I finally caught up on the long Upgraded map controls and Bringing new life to OSM.org threads. I was especially interested in the discussion about where major changes to OSM should be announced, whether on talk, or rails-dev, or github, or IRC, or the blog, etc. As far as I can tell, nobody mentioned the annou...@openstreetmap.org list. Surely that list is an ideal low-traffic venue for informing the community of impending changes, and directing people to an appropriate forum for further discussion? Lots of people re-iterate the mantra that mailing lists (and talk in particular) are places where you'll only get flak for all your good ideas, and endless bikeshedding, and whatnot. I think that this is not supported by facts. 2. Therefore if you do something you're tempted to ignore the mailing lists, as everyone tells you they're the pits of hell. 3. Therefore, people on the mailing lists - even the majority that is not troublemakers - feel sidelined, and complain. Often even *informing* people in advance could help a lot. I think that the situation would already be much improved if, when something of greater importance pops up on rails-dev or elsewhere, someone informs the talk list about that. For example, in the specific case, once TomH had set up the working branch with the new UI, a quick note should have gone up on talk: look here this new design, being discussed here in case you want to say something. A couple of people might want to say something but the majority will just be pleased to have been told about it. Anyone can do this cross-pollination of the talk list, and maybe we should make it a habit. +1 I'll start with: Hi everyone, there's an idea to provide a new welcome/landing page used to send new users to, or maybe those who come to OSM via one of the sites using OSM maps. Re: [OSM-talk] Double-clicking on OSM map does not centre the map
I found the marker dragging feature mentioned by Peter Wendorff under Add a note to the map (currently last button on the right), but I can't use because I only need a private marker, I don't have anything to tell the mappers. I don't know if after confirming the note one gets a link to the marker or point. The Share feature with double-click centring doesn't help because as said by others the centering is not precise nor intuitive. To share a specific point on the map, ideally with a marker, I have to: 1) double click somewhere around the point in question, 2) take the long link in the Share view, 3) edit it to get the coordinates separated by a comma, 4) enter them in the search bar and confirm, 5) click the search result link to get the marker, 6) repeat 1-5 as many times as needed to actually get the point I'm interested in (I gave up after second attempt because it looked random). All this in Google Maps requires: A) right click, centre the map. So while it may be true that no other mapping websites use double click to centre the map what's important is that they do offer such a crucial feature like selecting and sharing a point on the map, and now OSM does not any longer, which makes it useless for a good proportion of the use cases I have for it.
OSM gibt keine Userdaten heraus, sondern Accountnamen. Sonst nix. Du entscheidest, was du mappst und damit, was du mit deinem Account unterschreibst.
Also schnell eintragen! No, ed è voluto. E poi, come sarebbe distribuiti?
Dock i http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposed_features/Public_Transport(originalförslaget) så står det After all the stops all the used ways should be inserted into the relation with an empty role. The ways should be inserted beginning with the way at the initial stop position and ending with the way at the terminal stop position. vilket tyder på det omvända. Re: [Talk-es] Letters in Streetnames
Re: [Talk-es] Letters in Streetnames
Re: [Talk-es] Letters in Streetnames
Re: [Talk-es] Letters in Streetnames

___ Talk-fr mailing list Talk-fr@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-fr

Re: [Talk-GB] Finding Unmapped public rights of way
That's exactly what I am doing. I've described the method so others are welcome to apply it. The problem of comparing PRoW against the path network is more complex: many rights of way will run along service roads (farm driveways) or tracks. In places with many paths, the buffer approach may result in erroneous matches and is probably useless in urban settings. Personally, I think its better to use this type of information as the basis for survey. Missing designation information likewise: I was surprised to find I could not recall the status of paths in the Long Eaten area which I use from time to time. I think you're comparing the prow map with OSM paths tagged designation=public_footpath/**bridleway. You would see a lot more green if you compared with all OSM paths ( tracks). It would be great to see a breakdown of X% mapped with designation tag, Y% mapped without that tag, and Z% not mapped at all. Personally, I'd support some sort of semi-automatic addition of designation= tags to paths that have e.g. highway=footway and that are near-coincident with things in the prow map. Do you have the technology to do that? If you don't want to use this data in OSM then don't use it but you are not the arbiter deciding what others may do. No, but then neither are you. But I do care about this project and I feel that it's important that contributors are properly informed. Where a license that some data is offered under is known to be incompatible with OSM's license (currently the ODbL), I fail to see how anyone can knowingly make use of that data and still comply with the statement they agreed to in the OSM contributor terms: If you contribute Contents, You are indicating that, as far as You know, You have the right to authorize OSMF to use and distribute those Contents under our current licence terms. I would agree with you that the chances of OS taking action over this are rather slim. But while we do have the ability to delete infringing data after the fact, as we have seen, that can be a somewhat painful process, resulting in the loss of more than just the infringing data. However, those two points are pretty irrelevant as far as I can tell. OS says their licence is incompatible with the ODbL, and each mapper has agreed to only add contents which can legally be re-distributed under the ODbL. Nowhere does it say that individual mappers can take it upon themselves to add contents where OSMF is unlikely to be sued for violating a licence. The only option I see is for you to argue that OS is wrong in its interpretation of its own licence. But the effort that ODUG is putting in to explaining the problems with the OS OpenData Licence, and pressuring OS to change, would seem to contradict this. If you don't want to use this data in OSM then don't use it but you are not the arbiter deciding what others may do. I would add to this that as Robert W is quite right that OSM takes a conservative line on copyright and licensing issues, the Licensing Working Group formally made the Ordnance Survey aware of our (then) intended use under ODbL and explicitly pointed out where there where potential incompatibilities. The upshot was that the OS kindly made a formal declaration that they had no objections to such use for all OpenData product where they have complete IP control, i.e. everything except CodePoint data. Since that time, the OpenStreetMap Foundation, as formal publishers of the database, have had no communication from the OS rescinding that for future releases of OpenData. In other words, if the Man Says Yes, then the Man Says Yes. Now, the potential incompatibility with the OS OpenData License per se has never been removed. This means that there are problems for the OSM community and the general public in these *other* areas: - Use of OS OpenData other than that described above, i.e. CodePoint. [I personally feel that the real problem all along is the Royal Mail and their apparent decision to hijack post code and address databases paid for with public resources into the private sector. Chris Hill has been working here but the LWG informally feels that the response he got is deliberately vague and obfuscatory.] - Confusing use of the OS OpenData License instead of the Open Government License on other datasets. As I recall that is datasets from English Heritage. A number of individuals have been working on these and other issues, at least Robert Whitaker, Rob Nickerson and Chris Hill. I apologise to them that the LWG has not been in a position due to lack of manpower to give support despite requests to do so. I therefore suggest the following: We (all) take a simple unified stance that: 1) The Open Government License, OGL, was deliberately brought into being to provide a consistent, harmonious platform for releasing open government-funded and government-owned data. The OS OpenData License is clearly at odds with this and should be retired completely. Anything currently under the OS license should re-published under OGL at the earliest opportunity. 2) There is a set of other key datasets which we believe need to be unequivocally published under OGL for the public good: - PROW data, however provided. - Royal Mail address database, (I am shaky on the details on this, Robert Barr is the man to talk to). - Others you may identify. I, and I believe all other LWG members, will be at SOTM 2013 in Birmingham. I suggest that we all meet up then. If possible, I'd like to make points 1 and 2 as a formal LWG/OSMF submission to ODUG before then. However, I want to be sure that I get all my facts straight, and lack of time to read everything up is what is stopping me right now. Any comments/support greatly welcomed. And it has been suggested I give a succinct summary of my own verbosity: LWG view on use of data in OSM under OS OpenData License: Yes: OS OpenData product except CodePoint No: CodePoint (a Royal Mail response to Chris Hill needs further investigation) You need to formally ask: Any other dataset published under the OS OpenData License by other organisations, such as English Heritage, (or by OS if any).
