Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Sb Touch Ethernet - Static IP with no router no longer works?

2010-11-07 Thread woodnut

Hello,

I have now got the Touch and Squeezeplug running once again without the
router. After using the router in the middle I simply unplugged the
router and connected them directly and it continued to work.

Previously I was given the option on the SB Touch for it to assign an
IP address to itself and this worked, now it doesn;t for some reason
but entering one in manually does work.

It would seem that once the router has given the Squeezeplug an IP
address and either I (Or the Router) have given the Touch an IP address
everything is fine as long as the Squeezeplug stays switched on as
obviously reseting it does wipe that IP address. My squeezeplug is
always on so this isn't an issue. The SB Touch can be switeched on and
off but still connects fine after this. I have tried entering static IP
info in the Squeezeplug setup as this was how it all worked previously
but either I am entering something wrong or something has changed
because it doesn't work for me.

Anyhow it is probably a slightly incorrect way to arrive at where I
wanted to be (SB Touch + Squeezeplug without a router) but I am there.

Thanks,

Thats interesting. As far as I can tell I am doing things the same way I
did before. Giving the Squeezeplug a static address and then telling the
SB Touch to assign its own IP address. It worked no problems before but
now I get a message about needing an internet connection or something.
I shll try it again, perhaps it is just me.

I will find out what the message says.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Sb Touch Ethernet - Static IP with no router no longer works?

2010-10-24 Thread woodnut

thanks for that john.

I was afraid that might be the case.

For some reason whenever I tried the standard 7.5 installtion for the
Sheevaplug the whole system ran very slow and did not feel stable. 7.6
however is so much quicker and smoother in the menus and scans.

I thought that this might be that SQL Lite used in 7.6 was the reason
for this.

I did see someone else mention this same issue on the squeezeplug
thread but I cannot find the post anymore and I don't think anybody
commented on it. I was under the impression the the code had been
actively changed to prevent use without a router for some reason. Shame
anyway.

Hello John,

Thanks. It is 7.6.0 R9103 according to the general info section on the
SB Touch. Is that where I find the version of the firmware?

To be honest I get confused between the firmware version, software
version of the Touch and the Sheevaplug. Are these all one and the
same?

I think it did after one of the automatic updates of the firmware on
the Touch this stopped working. Was a while ago now but I have only
just got round to trying to find out why an if I can go back to a
previous version easily because it was running fine and I didn't need
to use a router at all.

Many thanks.

[SlimDevices: Touch] Sb Touch Ethernet - Static IP with no router no longer works?

2010-10-22 Thread woodnut

Hello,

For some reason I can now no longer use the SB Touch connected by
ethernet cable to my Sheevaplug with static IP addresses. Worked fine
before but I get an error message now. It works with a router in the
equation.

Has something been changed in the latest drivers?

If so can I get back to a later version as I preferred running it
without the router.

Many thanks

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Sb Touch Screen Problem

2010-09-16 Thread woodnut

Would anyone be so kind to comment on if it is feasible that the linear
regulated power supply could have caused the screen to go on me?

I have checked it for continuity and everything seems fine there
although I guess it would damage more than just the screen if there was
a problem with the wiring?

I have checked the voltage with a multimeter and it show 5.05 volts. I
am unsure how to check the current, would the Touch need to be running
from the power supply to measure the current draw?

The power supply has been getting warm but I have got holes in the roof
of the enclosure for ventilation. The IEC socket I fitted has a 3 amp
fuse and a switch so I have not been leaving it on when not in use as I
wasn't sure ho hot it might get when left all day.

I guess several folk might say just get rid as it is not worth using
one anyhow but it seems a shame now it is built.

Many thanks,

Hello,

I didn't do any screen mods, I thought they were all hardware related?
I did a reset and also deleted the two files (the digital only and the

It does look very much like a hardware problem.

Regarding power supply I have been using a linear regulated power

2-3 weeks without any problems.

[SlimDevices: Touch] Sb Touch Screen Problem

2010-09-11 Thread woodnut

Hello,

I am gutted to say that I noticed a white line across the screen
tonight on my SB Touch so I turned it off and then on again and the
screen then went fuzzy and bright white almost like all of the colours
were inverted like a negative. All the controls were still functioning.
After 5 mins the screen then came back to normal but still with the thin
white line across it.

I guess it needs to go back as I bought it only in June but any
thoughts woul be appreciated especially if anyone else has had the same
experience? What could have caused this to happen? It has been fine
before tonight.

Many Thanks!

[SlimDevices: Touch] Sheevaplug - How to Copy Files to attached HDD?

2010-09-05 Thread woodnut

Hello,

I have been running my Touch with a Sheevaplug with an external USB
harddrive attached, everything has been running very smoothly and I
have been very pleased with the combination. Initially I was running
with the Touch and the sheevaplug directly connected with static IP
addresses but I have now plugged the sheevaplug into my wireless router
and the Touch is accessing the squeezeplug wirelessly without any
issues.

There is one thing I have been struggling with and that is being able
to copy new music files across from my computer to the the attached
harddrive. I am able to do this via the webadmin filemanager module but
I have to do one file at a time which isn't ideal.

When I look at the network workgroup I can see the sheevaplug but
when I open it I am asked for a user and password and the standard root
- nosoup4u doesn't get me in even though that is the password for the
webadmin and when using SSH.

I guess there is a simple answer here but I am unsure how to login and
see the harddrive. I have already enabled it in the samba files sharing
section on webadmin as per the squeezeplug wiki page.

Should I include a fuse in the enclosure or would fitting a suitable
fuse in the plug on the AC power chord suffice?

Another possibly trivial thing I am unsure of is securely attaching the
DC power connector to the dc power cable. What can I do to ensure that
no strain is put on the solder join when unplugging and pluggin the

strain relief jackets with them.

Many thanks for all the replies and comments.

My Orange wireless router is far away from my HiFi and hence this is
the reason I wanted to avoid running a long cable from my Hifi to the
router. Of course I could as suggested have the Sheevaplug next to the
router and stream wirelessly and perhaps this would be fine, I haven't
tried this but the main point of the excersise is to try soundchecks
mods which include hardwiring the network connection.

Once the sheevaplug is up and running hopefully I won't need to access
it anyway, otherwise I will have to look at running the long network
cable.

I have ordered the Sheevaplug and hopefully the Wiki page and the
downloaded SD Card image will proove easy to install and setup.

On a related note I have read with interest the thread on powering down
the Touch and the file systems ext2 and ext3. From what I have
understood ext3 allows you to switch off the harddrive (as long as it
is not being read or written to) and the data should not get
corrupted.

I realise that my windows XP based computer won't be able to format my
HDD in ext3 format. Can anybody tell me how I can format my USB
external 1TB HDD in ext3 format and then transfer my music back onto
it? Is this possible and is it difficult?

Many thanks!!

* Max Supply Voltage:240V
* Min Supply Frequency:47Hz
* Min Supply Voltage:100V
* Min Temperature Operating:0°C
* Mounting Type:Chassis
* Output Type:Fixed
* Power Supply Type:Linear
* Supply Voltage:230V

It looks to be the same as the one in post #24 of this thread by Amuata
who is offering two of these units. I am thinking about giving it a
whirl but I have a few simple questions if anyone can jump in.

- This is obviously meant to be mounted inside another chassis as it is
an open frame design, would any Maplins metal enclosure do?

- What sort of cable should I use for the DC side? Should it be
shielded? light gauge? I note the link earlier in the thread for the
switchcraft connector, are these soldered?

- Should the AC side involve a power cable that plugs into the power
supply and if so what connector would be recommended? Or should the
power cable into the power supply be hardwired.

Many thanks!

Yes I have read several posts stating that there is nothing to gain but
I have also read posts where people have reported gains so I want to see

All my kit is grounded and there is an earth terminal on the Isotek

Is there any other components that I would need or any safety points

Your answers lead me to another question if you or anyone else would be
so kind.

The sheevaplug does not have wireless networking built in so how do
most people have it connected to their network? is the only option to
hardwire it to a router? NewIT told me you could use a USB wireless
adapter but I don't know how easy it is to set this up on the
sheevaplug, especially for someone with little experience of
networking. Of course this would mean unplugging the the external USB
drive each time.

I had hoped that I could run the sheevaplug with the external USB drive
connected and a CAT6a cable connecting the sheevaplug to the SB Touch
and then accessing the sheevaplug wirelessly in the same manner I
access the SB Touch wirelessly at the moment. This would mean I would
have to take the netwrok cable out of the touch and put it into my
laptop everytime I wanted to access the sheevaplug from my computer. My
Orange wireless router is quite far from where my HiFi and SBTouch is
located.

Any thoughts / advice greatly appreciated!! Many thanks!

Hello,

Many thanks for your reply. The reason for wanting to connect the SB
Touch to the sheevaplug is to avoid the use of streaming audio over
WIFI. I want to try the tweaks from Soundchecks blog which include not
streaming via WIFI and instead harwiring the ethernet connection.

Thanks for the comment on the USB wirelss adapter I think I shall rule
that out.

It does sound like the only way I would be able to access the
sheevaplug is by unplugging the SBTouch from the sheevaplug and
plugging the cable into my laptop.

Regarding SATA I was thinking it would free up the USB port for use
with a wireless USB adapter but I shall rule that out. My Toshiba HDD
is a SATA drive in a USB enclosure.

Thanks.

Many Thanks.

I just looked at the powerline ethernet adapters. I didn't even know
such things existed. Looks like a very nice solution. A quick ebay
search seems to suggest the cost would be around £40 for a pair
although this does put the cost of the whole project up and I'm
begining to wonder whether its worth it. The main reasons for looking
at the Sheeva box are to improve sound quality and prevent the odd
glitches I get using the SB Touch in standalone mode.

I did want to avoid having to run long network cables from my wireless
router to my HiFi. I assume adding a second router would require this?

The Guru plug Server Plus offered by NEWIT does appear to have wirelss
built in and it is around the same price. Does anyone use the guru plug
with the Touch and SBS? Is there a reason why it would be less suitable
than the Sheevaplug? Would the wiki page on setup still be applicable
to the Guruplug?

http://www.newit.co.uk/shop/proddetail.php?prod=GuruPlug-ServerPlus

I did ask NewIT but they said that they were out of stock at the
moment.

Many thanks for everyones help!

Yes I had read that it is a case of when and not if it goes bad.

I just wondered do I lessen wear and tear by turning it off? Also am I
leaving it open to more chance of corruption by it being permanantly
on?

Also from a power saving point of view I cannot tell if my drive sleeps
or not, there are no settings or anything elese that I can find.

If given the above there really is no point switching it off the I
don't mind leaving the HDD on connected to the sheevaplug that is on
and simply disconnecting the network cable when I need to access the
sheevaplug. Once I have the settings sorted I wouldn't be intending to
change anything just leaving it to run SBS.

On another note, I just read someones post about the dodgy power

[SlimDevices: Touch] Potential Newbie Sheevaplug Touch questions

2010-08-16 Thread woodnut

Hello,

I tried a couple of these questions in the third party hardware but I
shall now try here.

Payday is coming and I may go for it and purchase the Sheevaplug. If
anyone can just help me better understand it by answering the following
questions. Apologies if any of these are silly questions.

1.) To change the settings of the SBS software would I use another
computer to access the sheevaplug and it would apppear in the same
manner that it does if I was running it on that computer? i.e) all the
same options and screens etc.?

2.) My Toshiba external HDD I am told is actually a Sata HDD inside a
powered USB enclosure. Does this mean I can take it out and power it
from the Sheevaplug which has a sata connector?

3.) Can functions like ejecting the harddrive (if I was using it as an
external USB) be performed? At the moment I eject and switch off the
HDD everytime I have finished with it. I am currently using the touch
in standalone with the external HDD.

Many thanks!!

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Recurring problems

2010-08-13 Thread woodnut

I also own a powered external hard drive (Toshiba 1TB) and have now
ripped around 250 albums Flac -0, in the last week I have had two of
these loss of connection episodes. Previously everything had been
running fine. I am a little concerned that it may become a more regular
occurence. There appears to be no software or any settings regarding
sleep mode for this harddrive and each time the problem has occurred
after over an hour of listening and during listening to a track so I
can't see why it should loose connection suddenly.

I am prepared to accept the odd quirk, I saw before purchasing the
setup that the odds were it wouldn't be a purely trouble free mode of
operation. I do hope that it doesn't become a more regular problem.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch USB drive not visible on computer

2010-08-11 Thread woodnut

This is a function that I would find very useful even if the connection
is slow. I tried this when I first got my Touch and couldn't get it
working, after seeing this thread I have tried again bearing in mind
the advice given but for some reason I still cannot get the computer to
ask me for the password and cannot see the touch or the attached HDD.

When I try to open workgroup I get an error message and if I enter the
IP address into the address bar of windows explorer I get nothing
either. Sharing is enabled and I have been able to SSH into the Touch.

The only tweak I have installed is the 100% volume patch.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] SB Touch + NAS advantages?

2010-07-15 Thread woodnut

Hello and many thanks for your replies.

I am using the SB Touch in standalone mode attached to a USB 1TB
Toshiba external HDD. I go out the coaxial digital output to my DAC a
Audio Synthesis Dax Decade. I believe that my system is revealing
enough to show relatively small improvements in the SB Touch
perfromance.

The main reasons I mentioned the Sheeva plug that make it an attractive
device to me are.
- Looks to be reasonably priced
- Small and unobtrusive
- Quiet
- There appears to be alot of helpful info on setting it up with SBS

I would want to use my current HDD with the sheevaplug and just use my
laptop to rip additional music as and when I buy it. I don't miss the
use of the plugins and would only be interested in the Sheevaplug if it
improves the sonic performance of the Touch by taking the processing
away from the touch and performing it all on the sheevaplug. Perhaps as
mentioned, the sonic benefits of an external server are not clear cut
though and it may be a relatively pointless expense.

I am still a little unclear as to whether it is possible to do the flac
decoding on a sheevaplug, is this possible?

Many thanks.

[SlimDevices: Touch] SB Touch + NAS advantages?

Hello,

I have been looking at the Sheevaplug mentioned to me by a forum member
in one of my older threads and although my SB Touch is working fine as a

would be any sonic benefit to getting a NAS such as the sheevaplug in

Would I be able to do all the Flac decoding on the sheeva as

the other mods recommended in that blog?

Many thanks!

[SlimDevices: Touch] SB Touch Initial Setup - Firmware

2010-07-07 Thread woodnut

Hello,

A friend just bought an SB Tocu after my glowing review but is having
real dificulties getting it to connect to mysqueezebox.com to get the
firmware to even get the thing up and running.

His laptop is connected to the internet via a mobile internet dongle.
Should it still work with an ethernet cable plugged from the laptop to
the SB Touch?

I did see a post somewhere saying there was a way around this if you
didn't have a network but I cannot find it at the moment. Is it
possible to get around this without the SB Touch connecting to the
internet?

Could the files be downloaded onto the laptop and transferred? I'm
guessing that may be a bit tricky even if it is possible.

Many thanks

[SlimDevices: Touch] Touch Digital Output are users using Coaxial or Optical?

Hello,

I wondered if anyone would like to share any views on which digital
output (coaxial or Optical) they use on the Touch, if they use it as a
digital transport, and if they have noticed any difference in
performance?

The Touch replaced a CD transport, in my system, that had a BNC
connector, so I am using a cheap BNC to RCA adapter on the end of my
BNC to BNC coaxial cable at the moment. Shame the Touch doesn't have
BNC as I understand that RCA is never true 75 ohms.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Using digital output only, should I go for the Touch or spend $1000 on a Transporter

2010-07-01 Thread woodnut

For what its worth I will chuck my opnion in on the digital output of
the Touch. I haven't compared it with the transporter but it is head
and shoulders above my CD transport. The transparency I am getting from
my system now is incredible. The sound is much more liquid and smooth.
Vocals that were previously a bit harsh and had sibilancehave really
benefited and are much smoother and easier to listen to.

The only thing I am unsure of so far is the pin pointing of instruments
on the soundstage within the mix seems a touch more smeared but I
haven't yet gone back to my CD transport to verify that I am just
imagining this. My touch has had less than ten hours play so far so if
it improves any more that would be fantastic.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch Standalone with HDD Which File Format?

2010-06-27 Thread woodnut

Hello silvermilnec,

To answer your question on how I am getting on with the touch...

I found it easy to get setup and did so without any problems.

I have started ripping my CDs using EAC which is taking a long time per
CD but I think it is worth it. I Have only done around 15 albums so far
and have ripped in FLAC level 0 as I thought this would give the Touch
CPU the easiest time decoding and I think I should be fine for space.

So far so good, no problems connecting. The only thing I can't really
get my head around is accessing the touch from my computer to move new
music to the attached harddrive.

As for sound quality, into my DAC it sounds amazing. A real step up
from my TEAC CD transport. I guess this is partly due to the SB Touch
and partly the use of EAC. For sound quality alone I am blown away.
Very smooth!

[SlimDevices: Touch] Are there any cheap options for a Better Touch Power Supply?

2010-06-24 Thread woodnut

Hello,

I am still waiting on delivery of my Squeezebox Touch which I plan to
use with an External HDD (fingers crossed) digital out into my Dax
Decade DAC.

I have read with great interest soundchecks blog on upgrades along with
many other posts about upgrades to the Touch and the older Squeezebox
products. In many of posts about the older Squeezebox products there is
a recommendation to change the switching power supply for something
better.

I realise there are options out there by Welbourne Labs, Boulder and
others which are very much outside of my budget but are there any cheap
options that I could look at? I have read that a $10 power supply was
recommended for the old Squeezebox 3 as an improvement over the stock
one. Is there anything similar that can be recommended for the Touch?

I live in the UK and only have a very basic understanding of
electronics. Any links would be fantastic and I am sure of use to many
others who may be wondering about the options.

Many thanks

[SlimDevices: Touch] Just got my SB Touch - Initial Impressions Questions

2010-06-24 Thread woodnut

Hello,

I have just taken delivery today of my SB Touch after gleaming alot of
information from this forum so I thought I would post some initial
impressions up.

I am using it without a computer, with a Toshiba 1TB External USB
Harddrive and am using the digital output into my DAC.

I have a reasonably large CD collection that is not yet ripped but in
preperation for the SB Touch I had already ripped around 12 albums
using EAC onto the Toshiba HDD. I ripped to Flac using level zero
compression.

- The initial setup of the Touch was easy and everything worked as it
should, it connected to my internet connection and updated the firmware
without issue.

- When I connected the external HDD the Touch found the albums I had
ripped without issue (Only 12 I know but its a start).

- The sound is fantastic, it really has changed the overall sound of my
system. I was using an old TEAC VRDS T1 with a clock upgrade and I
didn't really expect it to be much better, but it is much more
enjoyable to listen to. More natural, easier to listen to, more
effortless, clearer. Some albums that are very well known to me
suddenly revealed subtle details I hadn't noticed. I even found that
certain tracks I had previously considered to sound a little harsh on
the ear at the top end, have now lost some of their hard, harsh edge.

I just hope that it will continue to work once there are many more
albums ripped.

- One thing that I couldn't work out was how to fix the volume at 100%.
I saw a post explaining how to do it on here but I couldn't see the
patch for the 100% volume fix. I installed the patch installer but
still couldn't see the patch then oddly found I can no longer view
available patches, the menu just doesn't open anymore when I touch to
select it. I found two other Apps relating to fixing the volume control
on the web view of the software but these did not seem to do anything
and I couldn't find where to access settings for them.

Anyhow, so far so good. I just need to get my head around the Apps /
Patches and how to use a computer to access files on the SB Touch and
the external HDD attached to the Touch.

Cheers.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch Standalone with HDD Which File Format?

2010-06-23 Thread woodnut

Thanks.

Does the file format FAT32 or NTFS make a difference to the Touch in
terms of ease of access?

I am tempted to rip the Flac files at 0 if this helps the Touch decode
the Flacs more easily. I have read conflicting reports on this all over
the web some say the decoding is nearly the same for all levels, some
say 0-2 is better for ease of decoding. I read a report where a user
claimed that anything above 0 intruduced jitter caused by the CPU
having to work harder.

I guess the NAS is something for the future if I run into problems. I
really want to avoid having the computer on if it is possible.

The SheevaPlug looks very interesting and not too expesnive either.
Maybe one for the future.

Yes I did take the jitter comments with a pinch of salt but was
interested in hearing any further thoughts on compression levels and
how this affects decoding.

I haven't yet received my Toshiba 1TB external USB drive yet but does
anyone know if it is a standard feature for all modern drives that the
sleep modes can be adjusted or turned off? If the sleep mode causes
issues with playback as some have reported I hope this is user
adjustable on the drive I have bought.

Thanks.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch Standalone with HDD Which File Format?

2010-06-22 Thread woodnut

Hello all,

Many many thanks for all of your replies, I am fairly new to using FLAC
files and was unaware there were different levels of compression.

Is 5 an average level that won't put too much strain on the processor
of the Touch? Would a lower level give me a better chance of smooth
operation?

I have not noticed controls to adjust sleep times for external hard
drives I have used in the past, does anyone know if this is a standard
option for all external hard drives? I am wondering whether I will be
able to disable or adjust this on the Toshiba I have ordered.

Flac is definitely what I shall use given the advice received here and
I shall rip with EAC using MP3tag to tag the files. I won't bother with
any artwork and shall try and keep everything neat and simple to give
the Touch the best chance of smooth operation.

Fingers crossed it will work as the external USB drive option is the
most attractive feature and the main reason for this purchase.

Cheers.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch Standalone with HDD Which File Format?

2010-06-22 Thread woodnut

Many thanks for all the really useful information an tips. Can't wait to
get the touch, I am pretty determined to get it to work for me.

One other factor which occurred to me is the hard drive format, will
this affect performance FAT32 or NTFS? The Toshiba I ordered is FAT32.
Should I leave it or reformat? I think there is a 4GB file limit per
file on FAT32.

I may be jumping the gun a bit here but would using the Touch with a
NAS be a much smoother and more stable option with a large library? The
reason I ask is that I have just read that the external Toshiba USB HDD
that I have just purchased
( http://www.ebuyer.com/product/145041 ) is actually a Western Digital
WD10EAVS Sata 1TB drive in a toshiba enclosure. Does that mean that I
could put this drive into a NAS enclosure at a later date for the fully
functional and presumably more stable SB software running from the NAS
rather than TinySC?

I don't know much about NAS drives and whether or not they are easy to
set up with the touch but I have seen a couple of NAS enclosures for
around £50 in the UK. (
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Arkara-Gigalan-Entry-SingleBay-Enclosure/dp/B00375MXN2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8s=electronicsqid=1277242080sr=8-1

Would this Arkara Gigalan Entry Level SingleBay NAS Enclosure (or
something similar in price) run the SB software and take my Toshiba
Sata 1TB drive?

Many thanks!

Sorry the above question is a bit off my original topic.

[SlimDevices: Touch] Touch Standalone with HDD Which File Format?

2010-06-21 Thread woodnut

Hello all,

After spending hours and hours reading reviews and forum posts on the
Squeezebox touch, I have today bitten the bullet and ordered one. I
have also ordered a 1TB external HDD as I intend (like many others) to
attempt to use the Touch without a computer (except to rip my CD
collection).

I am of course very worried about about the many user reports of
problems when using an external USB HDD, and admit that I have placed
the order against my better judgement given the posts I have read. I am
crossing my fingers that it will work, as it is exactly what I am
looking for if it will work in this way.

I really don't want to have the computer involved with my HiFi, apart
from the initial ripping of CD albums.

My main question is this:

If I can fit my CD collection (or the majority of it) onto my HDD in
Wav uncompressed format rather than FLAC will this reduce the strain on
the Touch being used as a server and hence decrease my chances of
running into issues with buffering, dropouts etc.?

My CD collection is very roughly around 800 albums. I don't intend to
use the album artwork feature and 99% of the files will be CD quality
as my external DAC can't handle high def files, though I may get a few
just to see how they sound through the Touch's DAC. The HDD won't be
used for storing anything else apart from music for the Touch.

The HDD I have ordered is :

Toshiba StorE Alu 1TB External Hard Drive USB 2.0
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/145041

It runs from it's own power adapter which I realise is one possible
problem area.

If anyone has any comments on this external hard drives suitability
also that would be great!

Many thanks in advance for your time and comments

Hello,

Thanks for the reply.

I am just getting my head around all of this.

So lossless FLAC poses no greater stress on the Touch and TinySC than
an uncompressed WAV?

I thought that as it had to uncompress the FLAC file this ate up
processing power.

Many thanks Garym,

It is not the quality of the playback that I am worried about at this
moment but more the user reported issues when using an external hard
disk with the touch. I have read many posts where larger libraries put
too much strain on the Touch and TinySC causing dropouts, stutters,
misreads, endless scans etc.

I wondered if ripping in WAV would help with the Touch's underpowered
processing capacity, especially with larger libraries.
