Work is progressing at Warwick in
preparation for the Qld State comps which is the week before the Nationals at
Kingaroy. Traditionally most fly both the State and Nats when held in
Queensland. I have been flying at Warwick as a home club for a few years now and

The Boonah Gliding club has been successfully using an Autotow winch for
years, I was towing ( tug plane ) on Sunday and we ran both systems. The
gliding field has a useable 800 metres, the F100 ute easily launches 2
seaters to heights well over 1200ft. A very cheap launch method.

ADS-B is primarily an ATC system, used for providing ATC tracking, arranging
separation for other aircraft, crash avoidance etc etc. It will have eventually

the G.A to FLARM reception. I have allowed in the G.A based receiver for ADS-B,
the provision for adding a FLARM receiver with some modifications to the
receiver, by adding a further gain stage we can increase the reception for them
to around 7 - 10

ADS-B is not used in the States currently on 1090 Mhz ( Transponder TX
frequency ) They do however have mode S replies which depending on what
downlink is used , or DF reply, contains some basic information which they
are decoding and displaying. This same receiver can be used here in Oz ,
Add also the new Filser SX1000, which will do both FLARM AND ADS-B. The
SX1000 is a panel mounted glide computer with a PDA sunlight readable screen
and external vario, soon to be tested here in Aus.
I have been speaking to the FLARM guys and it appears we can build a version
here at our factory
John is correct, I have made a switcher for my nav lights which have a 3
watt luxion star LED and reflector, and are marginally dimmer than the 20
watt incandescent they replaced, current drain dropped from 1.5 amps to
200ma, and the heat from burn your fingers to ambient warm.

From Boonah, this month we had no fewer than 3 wave flights, one to 16,000ft
and we could have gone higher as it was still 4 knots climb, views out to

web, the sarsat or NOAA sites are good. Being a data system one needs to
register the programmed info which contains callsign etc, with sarsat.
Installation is always a problem in gliders as we don't want any
external
meeting so I think it should be left to that.
