[Elecraft] K3: Need 6kHz filter for wide AM BC reception?

To receive AM shortwave broadcast (at bandwidths wider than 2.7), do I NEED the 6 kHz roofing filter? The price list seems to say I only need it to transmit AM (which I don't intend), but it isn't completely clear. The manual doesn't mention it. Thanks Windy KM5Q

[Elecraft] K3/Mac OSX firmware download seems stuck

My K3 (just received) came with a note that said to download the latest firmware before using it. Config menu says uC 1.78 / FW REV 5 I got through most of the process, but it won't finish. Here is the report from the K3 Utility: 08:47:53 K3 boot loader is ready for MCU firmware load. RS232

PS. Now I think it DID work! After my attempt, I checked the Config menu. Ity says uC 1.78 / FW REV 5 The Utility says 1.78 IS the current MCU version. So I think it worked, but the "waiting" statement is misleading and the Utility gave me no confirmation of success. Comments from OSX users
