Hello! When doing a 'sudo fink selfupdate' i run i a problem because alpha.gnu.org is not reachable an therefore no CVS access to tar Version 1.13.25-1. And it seems to me that there isn't a mirror for downloading it. Any suggestions? BTW: Why is it necessary to have tar, man, etc. as essentia

This depends on what you want to do. If you want to use rootless X for the most part, then you want a window manager that is good for rootless mode (which the default one, twm, is not). I like OroborOSX (http://oroborosx.sourceforge.net) for rootless mode, myself, but I've also tried rootless KD
