From photos I've seen, the modem in the clamshell iBook appears to be
the same as the modem in the Lombard and Pismo PowerBooks? Anyone know
for sure?

To clarify: the 333MHz Lombard (1999), like the WallStreets (1998),
came with a CD-only drive, and requires a PC card to play DVDs, but
its big brother, the 400MHz Lombard, has the video circuitry built-in
on the motherboard, and comes with a DVD drive, as do both Pismo
models (400 & 500MHz). T

I have a WallStreet PB whose display shows two thin light vertical
lines, about 1-2 pixels wide, dividing the screen into three vertical

enabled me to resurrect a misbehaving floppy disk), but I suspect it
may damage some other components in a hard drive,

nyway, so far as I'm concerned, any pre-FDB drive is too noisy to
live with. It seems that noise was just not an issue in drive design
until 2001; the 12GB Travelstar that came stock in my Pismo makes a
terrible whine.
