and have since replaced the sound card and modem with used parts that work
better in both windows and Mandrake than the old ones did. I had a power
supply and a CD-ROM die on me at different times and replaced those too.

Ok...I looked at the "Linux Printer Compatibiltiy" web site
and was really tempted to go more to the HP side,
especially since they say they're supported under DOS
Actually, the network install is preferable also if you have more than
one person using the computer. It allows most of the files to be
stored in a central location, then you just have each user run setup
and it will only take a little more space rather than a full
installation each time.
