default font setting in one of the properties, and now X will not start. I can
login through a non-graphical interface, but when I run 'startx', I get the

Actually, you don't have to do it again as the user. What has to happen is
that user *must* be a member of the sound group (it's either sound or
audio, I think). If they aren't
This is most likely a Windows ME problem, unrelated to Linux. Try running
a Thorough Scandisk, and then Defrag, and see if that helps.

Windows 2000 partition.
That leaves me with the only option of installing Mandrake on the HD and
erasing WIn 2000 (which I really need for work). Why doesn`t the

If you machine only has one network card the firewall is blocking the smb
packets b/c they are concidered a security risk. smaba is only meant to run
on a local network(i think). you might dual home your machine if you are
using it as a gateway. that might fix it. Have the firewall applied to the

I believe you will also have to sys the C drive. What I do is make a Windows
boot disk and copy fdisk.exe, format.com and sys.com from
c:\windows\command. Then boot from that disk and type;
fdisk /mbr
sys c:
Then you should get your windows loader back. Fdisk /mbr kills the Master
Boot Record,
