Speaking of filters, I've just ordered a screw on Nikon Softar #1 diffusion
filter in 62mm.
I aim to use it with a step ring for my Pentax FA 100 f2.8 macro for portraiture.

Maybe my 1.7/50 M is not a good sample but my 3.5/35-105 is sharper at 50 mm and it is
shaper than my 4/28-70 AL. The new 3.5-4.5/24-90 mm seems the same, sharpness-wise.
The weight actually helps dampen vibration, so I use it with ME and winder ME II.

it's about where the centre of gravity falls. Some people prefer it to
fall towards the camera end whereas others seem to prefer it at the
lens front end. If you're a camera-ender, like me, and used to older
heavier cameras and lenses such as an LX+winder, then it can be quite
disconcerting t
