I don't think it will work. The reason is that the diaphragm actuators of
pre-A lenses are not linear. Even if you can fool the camera with an 'A'
setting, the actual stopped down aperture during exposure would not be
accurate.

Along those lines I know that a number of people have
had their AIS Nikon lenses converted to a "P" type
with a computer chip added/new F mount. This will give
the old AIS lens all the capabilities (like matrix
metering) of a P type but with no Af obviously & can
be used with cameras like the N80.
Lower case smc already with us even before the pentax-M series were
introduced.
First lowercase SMC in 1976 ? ( smc PENTAX 1:2 55mm)
