The nic is an SMC EZ 10/100 the driver loaded for it
is the RealTek RTL-8139.
I tested the nic with a fixed IP and was able to

that they use the MAC of the cablemodem. That having been said, a
number of providers use a PPpoE solution to actually log you into their
network.
