Rob,
I count my blessings everyday, and this group is high on my list.
Before I became involved, it was like walking in the darkness not knowing
what
was next. Just learning how many of the little things going on in my body are
also going on with many others is like walking into
Dear Sal,
You're certainly entitled to vent. I know I've done it big time and this group
has been wonderful and supportive. I was diagnosed with TM four years ago and
my symptoms are nothing compared to yours, but still, at times, I do feel sorry
for myself. I don't think there is anything
I know for some of us it has been a lifetime of our TM, ADEM, NMO, MS and so
on...but have we ever figured what happened? I know that we all have adapted
to it and forgot about it but instead of having doctors and researchers find
the reason why, whats a better source then the person who
I truly believe that TM was caused by stress in my life. I believe I
had nothing more serious than a summer cold, but due to the stress in my
life which was extremely high at that time my immune system was weakened
allowing the onset of TM. This is not very scientific, but I believe
this was
Thank you Rob for pointing that out... i was very stressed to at that time i
was a realtor/manager of a group of teelemarketers plus i had bronchitis i
wasnt taking care of...thankyou Rob...

My daughter had an upper respiratory infection, that was treated with an
antibiotic, a month before she was inflicted with TM. She was only 11 so
the only stress that she had was being a typical 11 year old girl in
5th grade. She hadn't been vaccinated for quite some time before she got
it either
.*Hi,*
*I was getting over a case of very mild pneumonia whenever I got hit with
NMO. I hadn't even missed work because of it. Had been taking antibiotics
and feeling a bit poopy and tired, but no other symptoms to speak of.*

Rob, I believe what you are saying 100%. It was a very stressful time in my
life as well when I was hit with TM. If I remember correctly, I had a cold
shortly before also. Nothing major, just the common cold.

Hi,
I was going through a terrible divorce and raising 3 young children. I also
had pneumonia in Nov and the flu in January. I got TM on Jan. 3, 1991. My
neuro was so good. He diagnosed me before any testing was done. He told me at
the time that this could have been a virus that had been
In 2000 I was diagnosed with cancer, was teaching special needs kids, had 3
teenagers and watched my mom die of lung cancer while I was battling breast
cancer. I am absolutely convinced this is why I fell apart with TM less than
one year later. Stress!

At the time of my onset I was under a huge amount of stress. I also had
been sick for a couple of weeks with bronchitis and had just finished up a
round of antibiotics and prednisone. My family doctor at the time told me
he thought I probably would have been in worse shape had I not been on
I just had a brainstorm after reading a few notes from people asking what they
could do for Jude. She is very tender-hearted toward her hubby and is
concerned for him. She even said Dave would enjoy a call from me and I haven't
met him yet. So, how 'bout we stretch ourselves - for Jude and

Yes. I attribute my TM to the stress I was experiencing while down-sizing a
bank branch by eliminating a satelite drive-up building. closing down 18 ATM's,
raising the fees on an entire mall of commercial accounts so they would go
elsewhere, and eliminating the jobs of 8 of my staff. This was
Hi Sal,
My son got married one month to the day that I got TM. I'm very thankful that
I got it 'after' the wedding and not before or on the day as it could have been
terrible. There was a lot of stress and busy busy times as there were 370
guests. We had tons of family here from out of
I am having a difficult time with my new e-mail system. I sent an e-mail

I would say they resemble (to me) the shell of a brazil nut but bruisey in

For a doctor, since there is no directory of doctors knowledgeable in
TM, doctors affiliated with the National MS Society are suppose to be
familiar with TM. They have a directory on their site.
If you look in to the archives, probenly you will find a lot of people that
think, or almost know for sure, that stress is related to sicknesses by
lowering the immune system. This discussion has been done for several times,
also blurry vision, cold feet, painfull knees and ancles,
UNBELIEVABLE!Here's another one. I too was going through some heavy-duty
stress in my personal life. TM hit me during a bad flu. It was a really
powerful virus. Hubby had it before me and got double pneumonia. I just kept
getting sicker and sicker, saw my family doctor twice, went to
I have asked this question myself but not as well-worded.
I have often asked myself this question. I had been in an auto accident 3-4
years prior that caused damage to my C-6 and C-7 and mid t range. However, the
accident has been ruled out as a significant factor. I am going to bone
I had the GReATEST stress of my life!! before TM. My boss was persecuting the

UNBELIEVABLE!It is interesting that about 4 have written that they had been on

been on antibiotics, first one that didn't work then another. I've suspected
this affected my immune system but, of course, can't prove
My TM got me in the first week of March nine years ago. I had had a nasty
case of bronchitis at least two months before TM hit. A miscarriage about 6
weeks prior to TM and a root canal just a week or two before TM. Obviously
this was not the best winter for me. I did not take antibiotics for
I, for one, am SO glad to be reading every single one of these stories! I'm
pretty new at TM (5/2005) and am trying to learn every thing I can. I
really don't mind hearing the stories repeated because this is just the type
of thing that will help us know we ARE NOT ALONE!! I've seen new names

I'm not sure if the 'splotches' I have are like yours but mine happened to
start on my one foot. They were a reddish brown color and everywhere they
were, my skin would just begin to peel off. Of course, I couldn't feel
anything and I was given an RX for some cortisone cream which did help.
Hi, Tracey! Just a quick note (I hope...I get a little chatty)! When I was
first admitted to ICU they did think I had the GBS but quickly ruled it out
after doing just a few tests. They could see the damage right away after
seeing the spinal cord on an MRI but still didn't know what had caused
