It is needed to get the TLSv1.1 + TLSv1.2 support that this implements.
With current releases, the only way to get the support is to not specify an
sslProtocol, but that still enables SSlv3.

Much as I loathe downgrading, would it be possible/advisable to downgrade the

That version is the last to use a pre-1.0.1 version of OpenSSL (1.0.0g).
