milar, I found some python setup.py scripts that write
directly to the system python library path, making it really difficult to
create RPM packages (which needs to go into a temporary directory
containing the installation tree during the RPM build).

Ah, I see. Thanks Aubin. I'm glad python is intelligent enough to handle
this very common problem.

However, unless I make freevo dependent on a pre-installed mplayer
package (what is the min version requirement?), it won't be possible to
ensure that freevo run successfully from the beginning.

Inter
t's what I do in the RPM package installation script (instead of
including all the *.pyc in the RPM package). I run setup_freevo to compile
to bytecode (currently *.pyc). If you modify setup_freevo to generate
*.pyo instead, I just need to change the script to cleanup *.pyo on
package removal.

changed since the compile? Does it autogenerate a new
*.o?
I guess it's trivial to modify the setup script to generate *.pyo.
I'll just need to tweak the SPEC file to cleanup *.pyo as well.

I don't know what trickery RedHat will use to shoehorn 2.3 into current
distros, unless it's totally drop-in replaceable. The last time they
provided Python 1.x and 2.x simultaneously, the newer version was named
python2 (and caused lots of problems with the scripts, etc).

Other than that, freevo 1.3.2's support for tvtime doesn't map channels
for non-US locales properly to the tvtime channel numbering (e.g.
western-europe E5 used by xawtv to tvtime's channel numbers), but it's a
different issue.

problem confined to Malaysia only either.
Now if there's a helper script to generate a listing based on some config

enough.

Mine's a NVidia GF4 MX440-SE w/ composite TV out, so it has to be vesafb

Hmm. I was just testing VCR_CMD as given. Perhaps some changes n
port probably?).

Incidentally, I saw your posts earlier about forgetting to include various
binaries, etc. Guess it'd be better to fix the runtime Makefile?

What is an 'output method'? I just added the lines to the local config
file to use tvtime instead of mplayer. Started XFree86, and ran freevo. I
didn't change freevo.conf (display=fbdev), if it means anything.
