Re: (313) OT Fu5k The BNP
Seeing as we're discussing this on-list, please could someone explain to me why boycotting Nick Griffin/exclusing him from a debate is the 'right' thing to do? From the opening few lines of the article in The Times: Its an editorial decision based on a feeling for what the public think, and its correct. In 2009 people expect to make their own minds up, and dont want to be cushioned from discussion, however problematic. Please can someone give me a measured response why this is not the way forward? I am happy to be convinced otherwise. I have yet to be presented with anything that challenges my standpoint. Re: (313) any glasswegians or bathites?
I am not sure about Bath, but if you have time, you could take the 20 minute train journey into Bristol which I know very well. Bristol is currently in the midst of a recession when it comes to decent record shops, but there are some good nights going at the moment. Check www.hijackbristol.co.uk. Is Placid still in Brizzle? I am sure he can give you a better view than me! Peace, N I'm planning a mid-December trip to the UK. Going to be in Bath (for business) and Glasgow (for pleasure), and/or recommendations for other techno friendly places en-route. Re: (313) Must-see stop-motion video
Funnily enough, when I heard the track I immediately thought of Zombi too. 'Surface to Air' is a fantastic album and the track 'Night Rhythms' is a proper prog rock synth epic. Recommended! There's a band i was in love couple of years ago, called Zombi. Their sound is pretty much in the same theme and orientation, but far better. Well... look at the name similarity. I don't wanna say that, but Zombie Zombie looks like a cheaper copy. RE: (313) Your last best detroit track
I'm glad you mentioned that clipping... I wondered whether it was just my copy. I noticed this especially on 'Friendly Children'. Actually, now I come to think of it, I have his 'Contemporyhthms 2' mix CR-R and it sounds a bit crunchy at points. Maybe Theo has bad ears. N Here's one track by Theo Parrish track people often complain about for ugly digital clipping on the kicks. http://www.discogs.com/release/173225 Here's another production by him I've noticed which seems to have the same effect toward the end. http://www.discogs.com/release/130248
RE: (313) Your last best detroit track
Well that's the point Nik! :) 'Bad' is subjective. I don't think those artefacts are in there by accident. Some people - not just Theo Parrish - record distortion in their mixes deliberately as an aesthetic measure don't they? Sure, and I appreciate the difference between deliberate distortion for aesthetic reasons * and due to bad mastering etc. However, I have an OK hi-fi system at home, and it just sounds a bit 'off'. Like he was going for the crunchy sound, but somehow 'followed through' ;). N * Take Portishead for instance. I spent ages cleaning my CD but that f-ing crackling noise was still there :(.

RE: (313) Theo Parrish in Adidas AdverT
I wouldn't say I love Adidas, but I do find this sort of advertising more acceptable for some hypocritical reason. I think the best I can hope to do is maintain a healthy level of self-criticism. I don't think I am in any position to pass judgement about selling out and keeping it real (or faux). That said, I do have to wonder why Questlove did that mobile phone advert (along with Madonna and Iggy Pop). Shudder. No doubt at all. For some unfathomable reason I still feel a very faint flicker of being uncomfortable with it though. Everything about it is done to make you feel that it's not an advert in any way whatsoever - and I guess this is just the way things are done nowadays. The artist is happy - his integrity isn't compromised and we get to see a glimpse of his craft and how he does things, the advertiser gets nothing but 5 seconds at the end.and yet! I love Adidas and I love Theo Parrish...It doesn't make sense.
Re: (313) Theo Parrish in Adidas AdverT
A couple of thoughts: I sincerely doubt that the 313 mailing list demographic is sufficiently lucrative to warrant creating a specific viral marketing campaign for. Are there other artists involved in a similar series targeting other groups? I don't think this sort of campaign is expensive to produce (compared to traditional marketing) but I don't see how effective it is either. So Adidas have generated a lot of discussion (never bad) and perhaps even earned some grudging respect (also good for them) but I for one will not find myself in a sports shop thinking huh, maybe I should by this Adidas branded product because they are down with tha D. But then, virals aren't supposed to work like that as far as I understand it. Do you remember DJ Super Greg? There was NO indication in that video that it was anything to do with Jeans (wasn't it Lee or something?). N old guard = company- internal marketing dept- research firm - wack commercial actors new guard = company- guerrilla/viral marketing consultants - independent media creation professionals- people you actually know and care about. It's convincing K, but ask yourself the reason they've take the route they have and if you believe there's any love for you in the boardroom of any PLC then I'd say that was a tad naive, these people don't know as you suggest - they pay people who tell them what they know. m

RE: [Fwd: Re: (313) Digital Djing]
Yeah, but an mp3 of vinyl crackle would be a compressed, digital approximation of the analogue source, so (assuming this argument holds water) would still sound less 'warm' than a slab of vinyl with nothing but, err, hiss and crackle on it. Like some uber-mnml m-nus release ;) But anyway, this is getting waaay too zen for me. N Perhaps playing a silent record is going to far :) ... but it's a fair point. Still, if your file's digitized from vinyl you would get all the benefits of the medium in the audio quality too, I guess? -Original Message- From: pauley [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 04 January 2008 13:35 To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: [Fwd: Re: (313) Digital Djing] Just reading this http://www.cybernetic-broadcasting.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=12749p=3 It got me to thinking about laptop preformances sounding so sterile and thin, especially over a club PA where you need to feel part of the sound...I wonder if playing a blank sided record through the PA at the same time would fill in that space that seems empty with mp3/laptop, so you feel that 'inaudible' record rumble? How much of the preceived audio loss of mp3 in a club is actually record/surface/player noise? Some interesting views from the artist-label point of view come up here. From a consumer's point of view I'd say that vinyl is not the only area of life where we are facing a transition from physical to digital objects. The same problems come up with things like books. I have two opinions on the whole thing. I buy quite a lot of vinyl (I'm not a collector as such but many of the people who know me would completely disagree), my house is full of the stuff. I'm also quite computer literate and have all my digital stuff well managed. As time goes on I'm less and less likely to buy vinyl, unless it's a must have release. I'm less tied to that physical object and the huge advantage to having everything digital is that I can have access to it pretty much anytime, there and then. Since managing all my music digitally (digitised vinyl and downloads) I listen to the music I buy a lot lot more and for the digital stuff the total cost of the music I buy has dropped considerably (for the same amount purchased). Now, I don't know how representative I am of the market for techno/ house out there but I know a lot of friends who used to spend all their money on this stuff and now they've moved on in life (jobs, kids, houses etc) don't buy music at all because of the cost/space etc of vinyl. Because of digital I'll never get to that point where I'll stop so in a sense digital could be a way of retaining some part of a lost market. All that said I'll be very very sad when vinyl disappears but I am resigned to it going eventually. robin...

Toby... Are you using Rockbox? That should address those problems. I use Rockbox on my iRiver exclusively. It is far better - especially for recording. Re: (313) Richie Interview
I agree, I like Richie Hawtin sets that are a bit less-extravagent with the gear (ie the mid-1990's). For me, it's almost like he is concentrating on the technology more than the crowd connection. His sets were a bit more human, with a lot more fire back in the day. The Mixmag Live CD they mention in that article is still one of my all-time favourite mixes... But everything was better back in the day, innit?
Re: (313) Richie Interview
I'd agree with that too. It was nice he tried something different and interesting though. True, and I do occasional pick up 'concept' albums because I can find them inspiring, but one of the acid tests of 'quality' (define that how you will) is how often I listen to it. Hmm. I am not sure I agree with my own statement. I find Trout Mask Replica very hard to listen to, but still maintain it is an amazing album. I'll work out what I meant sooner or later. N
Re: (313) Richie Interview
the thing is, if i was going to gravitate towards either not mixing or having deejays play individual audio parts from a track, i would definitely be on the side of not mixing. but i dont think it needs to be that cut and dry. i think it is way too far to the other extreme to just be playing little audio bits. and i dont think any deejay anywhere is better at arrangement and composition than the producers of awesome records. if a deejay is having problems being creative with other peoples' records, that sounds like their own personal problem. maybe they should become producers themselves and put the work and effort into making quality tracks! it is not easy. tom When I read the article, especially the bit about being able to select bits of tracks, I immediately thought of 'Closer to the Edit' which (for me) actually diminished the tracks that comprised it. While some people do a great job of mixing fragments of audio together (and there are plenty of amazing Ableton mixes out there which do just that) I think there is something to be said about the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. I am not criticising Richie (other than saying CE didn't do it for me but is that his fault?) or cut-and-paste mixing. There are just a lot of points being made which resonate with what I have been thinking recently. One side of minimal removes elements in order to produce something more. And then there is the other side which seems to remove good stuff for the hell of it. N
Re: (313) Richie Interview
Interesting topic. Is it because only small elements/one track out of a multi-track tune that the message (our invested emotion in the track?) gets lost in the translation? Compare/contrast this with turntablists who cut-up records. The whole unit of the song is there if only for a few seconds. We can recognize the entire tune based on those few seconds and it means something to us. Reminds me of the old game show Name that Tune where people got down to minuscule fragments of songs and could name the titles (granted quite a number were crazy wild guesses). What Richie does on CE is pulls apart all of our references and then asks us to have, or whether we have, the same vested interest in those elements. I can imagine that's why CE doesn't do it for some. MEK I can't speak for anyone else, and sometimes can't even speak for myself, but I don't think it is always possible (or worthwhile) to try and find rules and formulae behind what causes an emotional response. Even if we could, wouldn't that remove the mystery and wonder of it? When it comes to music, which for me is the ultimate emotional trigger (in the same way as smell seems to be my ultimate memory trigger) I can find similarities and emotional connections between two completely disparate pieces of music. I find connections that other people might not *, and I am sure it is the same for them. So when you isolate things, perhaps you risk removing the core of the emotion for some people. Trying to relate this to the turntablism style of mixing and cutting-up... again, there will be people who get enough of a fix on what they are hearing in the same way that there will be people who can't stand it! If everyone thought and felt the same way, life would be dull and homegenous. Diversity is what makes life interesting. Totally lost the thread. B*ll*cks, I am supposed to be working anyway! N * my current half-baked theory is that it is something to do with chord progression but I haven't thought about it too formally.
Re: (313) have we run out of music?
Not unprecedented. There are pieces that are centuries old that call for brass players positioned all over the auditorium/cathedral/whatever. Sorry to hijack the thread (which, incidentally, is very interesting) temporarily, but this reminds me of a composition I heard once and have been trying to track down ever since. It was written and arranged to be played in an underground grain silo. I can't remember the composer. Basically, the concept was a number of horn players arranged in a circle around the perimeter of the circular silo, with the conductor in the centre. Each musician would perform short stabs such that the echo within the chamber (which could be timed quite accurately) would allow them to build layers of sound. I'd love to know what it was. Any clues or leads? Peace, N P.S: OT: Any Londoners going to The Cinematic Orchestra gig tomorrow?

(313) UR in The Wire magazine this month
FYI... There is a feature on UR in the latest issue of The Wire. I was relatively surprised to see a photo of Mad Mike on the cover... I guess staying underground doesn't quite mean what it used to. Not that I have an issue with it; it is pretty hard to stay anonymous these days. The 'historical' side of the article, covering the development of UR won't come as anything new to most people here. I was more interested to hear Mike's views on what he sees living and working in Detroit. Anyway, well worth picking up a copy if you can. Re: (313) Carl Craig heads-up
The whole thing. I do it anyway: it is essential weekly listening! I can either post the entire show (works out about 220MB normally @ 256kbps) or just edit out the set. Not a big deal either way. Incidentally, the Cinematic Orchestra set from a month or so ago is still kicking around here: www.basemetal.co.uk/tco. I will probably have to pull it down next Thursday so get it while you can. Apologies if the bandwidth stinks - it is not on a very fast server. Go gentle on it! Cheers, N No stealing of thunder, that would be Superb! Re: (313) jazzy Strings of Life remix.
Yeah, I caught it too. I am not sure how I feel about it. At first I thought the piano sounded great (and it does), and really picked up on the intricacies of the melody and chord changes and had to respect the sheer class and balls of the original. The meandering bass in this cover is spot-on too. But... as I actually listened to it out of context, just as a piece of music in it's own right, I couldn't help but feel it sounds like just another slice of hep swingin' cocktail-lounge jazzssszz. Not that this style doesn't have its own merits (right time and place and all that) but I find it too self-consciously cheesy. Time will tell. Still really dig it though. Just not sure I'd buy it. N Hi folks, Just listening to Gilles on BBC1. Caught a great piano-heavy remix of Strings Of Life on his show. I guess it's a white label. Christian Plummer remix? Any thoughts kids? Cheers, lrh

Re: (313) Karizma - Twist This
In light of Toby's comments about Ableton and Surgeon yesterday they discuss the changing formats in dance music and the use of CD players. Karizma says he has to worry less about knackered needles and can plan ahead more with his mixes and 'flow' better and do madder things with digital. I think that both analogue and digital have their place. I don't see that it is necessary to chose one as being better than any other - not saying that you are, but it is an argument that continually comes up every now and then. The one thing that I feel quite strongly about though is the visual performance of mixing with vinyl. I really enjoy watching someone working the decks. That said, when I saw Karizma he was working the EQs like a nutter. It was great.
Re: FW: (313) $tinkworx and Convextion
Mixing good artists with bad PAs makes me sad. Like eating fillet steak and eating it well-done with ketchup. I hear what you are saying about ear damage... I have started wearing earplugs regularly now. Only some cheapo ones, but they still make a hell of a difference. I am seriously considering buying some custom-moulded ones because for a couple of hundred quid it is definitely worth it. Some clubs I have been to actually have little earplug-dispenser machines... how thoughtful :) Strange, I thought the one thing that spoiled the gig a small amount generally but Convextion's set particularly was the PA. It's not that I didn't think it was decent, the promoter had obviously done the right thing, spent his pennies and got a decent rig. However the sound was so harsh it was almost painful. Maybe this wasn't so noticeable at the front (it was an unusual set up with the main speakers at the back at the other side of the room from and facing toward the artists, with only their monitors up front) but it was at the back (or in the middle where I was). I don't know if they'd not done a sound check or - if as it seemed - there was just nobody looking after the sound but it spoiled things for me - some amazing Basic Channel sounds which I should have been jumping to were making me wince instead. Just far too much top end and although it was really loud no feeling of real bottom end. I left after Convextion (which was amazing and I did enjoy despite this moan) because although I wanted to see Pendle Coven who were on last (really wanted to see them) I was worried about my ears. With good cause too as they were ringing for several hours afterwards. Here in the UK we are for some reason supposed to constantly put up with poor sound. It just doesn't seem to get the attention or be as high up on the list of priorities as it does abroad. Maybe this is a false impression I have generated by being lucky in only visiting some places with really good sound when travelling - but I doubt it. -Original Message- From: robin [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 09 March 2007 11:03 Convextion was brilliant in a different way, faster more electro based with that control of echo and delay that needs a decent PA to do it justice (which thankfully they had).

Re: FW: (313) $tinkworx and Convextion
I agree totally. If I am going to spend money on earplugs, I am going to get custom-moulded ones. There is still the article on Max Duley's site about his experience - he has contact numbers and everything. Very thoughtful. I think severing my own ears so that I could get someone to buy me custom-made plugs in the US might be construed as a bit drastic, even by my standards. I see the joke in what you're saying but you do need to have them made for you. Tom's won't fit anyone else's ears except for Tom's. That's what is so cool about those custom made ones. They're molded to your ear canal and the process is pretty funny to go through. They inject this pink foam that expands and then sort of gets a bit more solid (but stays sort of Nerf football like). For a few seconds you're deaf because they do it in both ears. About as close as you want to come to being deaf. They make the earpiece from that mold (and a small disc-like filter fits in it) and you get to walk out with the mold if you need another pair made. it's the best you can get imo. (313) Bleep43
I am not very good at reviewing nights, but I'll have a go. First of all, a bit round of applause and a 'thank you' to the Bleep43 crew for a great night. Toby: It was nice to finally meet you after many years of me lurking on this list. Actually, I'd to say hello to all the people I met last night. I arrived in time to catch some of Orphan's set - a really nice dubby set but with an edge. There was a nice warm embryonic feeling to it in my opinion. I was torn between just letting the bass flow through me and jacking it whenever Bea brought a beat in. The crowd were really appreciative too which was cool. Very nice set, and a very nice person - thanks for the hospitality on NYE (in case you read this!). Deeptastic! $tinkworx... oh man. Well, to repeat what Robin said yesterday: Ridiculously good. Actually, to disagree slightly with Robin - I found it very melodic. In fact, that is what gave the set the kind of staying power it needed to keep me really into it all the way through. I was never sure what I was going to hear next which is what does it for me these days. Polyrhythmic melo-delicious! Convextion. Speechless. OK, that is all kinds of useless as a review. Let's try for some adjectives: deep, beautiful, melodic, funky, complex, emotional, invigorating, euphoric (sorry - I wince when I use that word in the context of music because the word that I associate it with is 'trance' - but there weren't no glowsticks nor psychedelic swirling dolphin noises here). What gave this set the edge was the PA. It keep the clarity, whilst delivering the power that it deserved. It brought out the kick that it needed to have the room going for it! Oh, and killing the lights was a good move! Surgeon. Well, it was thoroughly rammed in there by 4am. People packed in on the floor, people crammed up on the stage, people swinging from chandeliers on the ceiling (that last bit might not be true). And it managed to get even darker. The only illumination I recall seeing was a USB light attached to Surgeon's laptop! Bass. So much bass. So much bass, Tony! My eyeballs were malfunctioning, you rotter. Summary: Dirty, but in a good way! Delivered all the goods that you'd expect from one of his Ableton sets. Still one of my favourite DJs at the moment. My head really hurts now. Must... drink... tea... Is anyone else hungry? I am going to have a cooked breakfast. Just thought I'd share that with you all. Peace. N -- No virus found in this outgoing message. (313) [OT - kind of] Cobblestone Jazz
OK, maybe I have been sleeping on this for a long time... Someone played me a track by Cobblestone Jazz that blew me away. I hate having to compare music, but if I had to, I'd align what I heard somewhere in between Metro Area and St Germain, but it is definitely doing it's own thing. I was surprised to hear that Mathew Jonson is one of the producers. I was never that impressed with his minimal stuff on M_nus but I am glad to hear he has a more 'maximal' side. Has anyone got any recommendations on releases or similar material? N

Re: (313) techno w/flecks of jazz
My advice is to check the (past and current) tracklistings for Gilles Peterson's radio show on BBC Radio 1 (www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/gillespeterson). Every week he plays stuff which blows me away. It may border less on the electro/techno side and more on the broken beat/soul/funk/latin side but it is definitely melodic and sometimes electonic and hopefully you'll dig it! Peace, N Happy Friday everyone! Doing a bit o'shopping and I'd like some suggestions. Would like to find some deep melodic techno stuff - Delsin, Arne, etc. with some jazz influences - O'Brien, As One, etc. Something overlooked or not on a label that usually does that? Anything that combines electro with jazz without being electro-jazz? Faster but slower? ;-) I've got MONEY people! Help me spend it! MEK
(313) (A little OT) Re: (313) Amp Fiddler article in The Independent
Good music makes friends everywhere it's heard; I don't believe that listeners are prejudiced against music just because it hasn't been marketed to them. I think that people just don't get to hear a lot of things they might like. I may be going off on a tangent here... I definitely agree with your last statement. But if only it was as simple as people being prejudiced (or not) because something has *not* been marketed to them... A couple of weeks back, when DJ Drama got busted by the RIAA I forwarded to some of the guys at work. I got a reply along the lines of The death of hip-hop wouldn't be so bad. All that macho bullsh!t and guns and sh!t It was clear that this was prejudice against the entire genre because of the way a certain aspect of hip-hop *has* been marketed by the media. So, after my initial reaction (irritation), I resolved to try and do some edutaining - but that is another story. I am glad I got that off my chest :) Peace, N

Hey. I just saw this listed for the Mary Anne Hobbs show tonight (well, tomorrow morning actually). I don't know what will be featured though: Friday 12th : 2-4am. - New Sounds from Detroit http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/maryannehobbs/ For those abroad, there should be a link either on that page or the main Radio 1 page to allow you to listen over the interweb. Tom, I really didn't want to have to carry this on any longer than it needs to. I am not sure which bit of my original e-mail you didn't understand; I was commenting on the fact that *you* felt the need to correct *me* (incorrectly, ha ha) rather than the fact that *I* had to restrain myself from correcting *you*. I wouldn't have corrected you because there is nothing to dispute. 'Word is bond' makes perfect sense, though I must confess I am surprised that you do not object to the obvious grammatical error in such a phrase. Trying to reinforce your position by citing historical examples of it's use is irrelevant in this context. It is a false argument: You are attempting to discredit my position by showing evidence for your own. This is not a logical conclusion - there is no causal link between the two. You should debate more. I think you need the practise. As for inferring that I am ignorant (No, I am not saying you are calling me ignorant in case you do not grasp the concept of inference) on the basis of your argument; It seems like you are becoming irritated because I do not subscribe to your point of view. I believe a psychotherapist would see this as an indication that you feel an overwhelming need to be accepted. Were you not shown any love as a child? Would you like a hug? WORD IS BORN! (313) Killing time in San Francisco
Hello list, I have managed to arrange a couple of days in San Francisco on the company time. Oh yeah. It is going to be my first time there and I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of some good record shops. I am not after anything in particular but some places that have a good selection of house, techno, electro, experimental, dub, electronic, hip-hop, detroit, jazz, soul…. I dunno! Surprise me. Also, my last night in S.F is Friday the 15th of September. It would be a shame to go all that way and not check out the clubs. Any interesting happenings going on? Feel free to hit me back off-list. Thanks, N -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Version: 7.1.405 / Virus Database: 268.11.7/438 - Release Date: 05/09/2006
Re: (313) mp3 recorder
Ditto: iRiver. Perfect for recording with. Also check out www.rockbox.org which extends the capabilities of the mp3 player. N Yep - I've got an iriver - it's got a line in and you can direct encode to mp3, ogg, wma, wav - at any bitrate you wish. Seconded. I am loving 'My Beauty In The Moon' at the moment. It hits me with a full-on nostalgia trip. It somehow manages to sound fresh and new but familiar at the same time. Quality. Don't know if they still have it ( and what region it was) but my recommendation of this morning did at one point - let me know how you get on as I want this myself - didn't get it straight away as I didn't have a DVD player, if Piccadilly no longer stock it let me know who does. On list with this as it seems general interest (OK UK general interest!) to me. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 14 December 2005 10:27 Subject: FW: (313) photos of your favorite record shops? Piccadilly gets lots of mentions on here - rightly so as they've got to be one of the UK's finest. In fact judging by how much international mail order they seem to do they've got be up there in global terms! Yet I'm lucky enough to live right round the corner. At this time of year they produce an interesting booklet with tons of charts and suchlike they give away in the shop (or have to charge mail order customers a penny for as their miserly online ordering software hasn't read Christmas Carol and won't give anything away). In it one wag mentions me as a Saturday part time staffer in a festive jest at how much time I spend in there on that day each week! RE: (313) DE9 Transitions
The X-Mix huh? I dunno - my fave mix has always been the Mixmag Live CD. Quality from start to finish. I prefer the Transitions mix to 'Closer To The Edit' - I always felt that the concept of DE9:CE was stronger than the final product with that one. I also think the DVD mix is better than the CD. However, I think the main issue for me is that I feel Hawtin has been substituting techniques for soul for a long time - this is just my opinion and I am not dissing him at all. For me, I prefer a more raw energy than something that feels like it is the carefully-considered execution of some pre-existing blueprints. The clicks, ticks, beeps and creeps have their place and can generate their own funk - but I'm probably more inclined to side with Martijn here. You can have too much of a good thing. Moderation is the key. Hawtin a few good listenings over the past few days and i do not know what to think of it. He did a great job in cutting, pasting, mixing, morphing and restructuring all the trakcs and putting them togeheter again But i cannot get rid of the feeling that it all sounds a bit dull and sometimes boring...i mean it just goes on and on in the same Tempo, and there's clicks, hicks and ticks everywhere but i do miss some peakpoint stuff...As said, great job in what he did and the way it's been put together but some more action would have made it more exciting for me. Do some of u have any thoughts on this mix??? Did you hear the CD or the DVD? The end of the DVD has some very nice finishing bits, which may tie things together for you better??? I've only heard/seen it once so far, and not all of it at that, but I definitely thought it was the best of the three (I've never really had time for the other two). I'd probably have to hear it again to say if I thought it sounded flat overall, but on my first listen, I didn't have that impression, and it's *precisely* what I would listen for, as I thought that was precisely the downfall of the previous two. I was actually quite impressed! Best recorded Richie Hawtin mix since X-Mix 3 if ya ask me. I also thought his track selection was a lot more interesting than the previous ones. That's a whole lotta K Alexi. :) Tristan === [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.phonopsia.co.uk __ This email has been scanned by the MessageLabs Email Security System. (313) Replacing stolen music
My car was broken into recently. The f**kers screwdrivered the lock, nicked the stereo and - wait for it - stole my F***ing CDs. I can't even remember everything that was in the car. The tragedy is some of it was some unreleased live sets from my archive. Anyway, bits and bobs keep coming back to me... I just remembered that I lost a copy of Steve Rachmad's 'Emerging' mix album. I need another copy because driving on a motorway at night just isn't going to be the same until I do. Does anyone know where I can pick up a copy? Cheers, N P.S: If you know of anyone selling a car stereo and a selection of quality techno albums including the above, let me know. Hold them down until I get there.
