Re: Any Red Dwarf fans out there?

I really need to check those out, Dark.In rare cases, I can read books with a text to speech engine, though now that I have found Bard, I only do so if I can get a highly interesting book in no other format.Danny has read the books, though I haven't asked him to share details with me for quite obvious reasons. The only thing I do know is how George MacIntyre died, and why. I have been hesitant to read the books due to the point someone brought up earlier that shows turned literature or vice versa ends up messing up or leaving out something, but given the positive reviews given by those who've read it that might change.

@op:It is perhaps a good idea to let him contact you back in his due time, if he is interested in doing so. If you have contacted him using a method that has been proven to work between the two of you previously, it is likely there is a reason he is no longer responding to your messages. Considering all possible reasons this might be, I don't suggest you continue to send him messages, since if he is intentionally choosing not to respond for some reason or another, this could aggravate him. I personally don't have much experience with this, since if I don't respond to or talk to someone any more, the generally know why, but all people are different I suppose.

Re: Any Red Dwarf fans out there?

Oh yes, the WWII tank was quite funny, though I didn't realize that is what happened; I don't have those episodes in audio description and I have not read a lot of the transcripts just yet.One part my friend and I got major laughs out of was the scene at the beginning of Inquisitor where Kriten saw Lister reading the comic and quoted part of it."Zap kerpow splat, Die in bed you Trojan Pigdog gnyarrg Kerpow".I found this bit funny namely because of Kriten's puzzled, logical tone when reading it.@Rob oh dear, the Kriten becoming human scene. That was very well done. It was quite hilarious to see the writers' take on what would happen if a mechanical, programmed to think like a machine, suddenly became human.I don't know though. Lister turning first into a chicken and then a hamster set me off as well.@Dark in a different thread, you brought up Toaster's conversations with Holly, how they were similar to some
one's conversation about politics or religion, when the other party would rather not talk about it. Ask me any question! Would you like any toast? I have an IQ of 12000, I know everything about the universe! Ask me anything! Would you like any toast?And... so forth. On another note, it is also quite puzzling to me why a food vending machine is capable of dispensing rubber boots and a bucket. Okay, the bucket I can kind of get, because you can serve food in a bucket, but boots?I'm referring to the scene at the beginning of Future Echos where Lister approaches the malfunctioning vending machine with a lisp and asks for breakfast.

Re: Any Red Dwarf fans out there?

@Dark yeah, I think one of the things I really like about the show is the British humor, since in a lot of ways I find it different from that which I am normally exposed to. I'm not experienced enough in both to compare and contrast differences, but there are differences I have noticed nonetheless. In terms of Season 7 being good or not, I cannot comment on that too much as it and season 8 are the seasons I've ended up watching the least. Episode 3 was one of the more memorable episodes from that season for me, although funny enough that stems from the fact that there is a little kitten in it, and I have gone back to that part enough times that I know it shows up just a little over 8 minutes into the episode. Aside from that though I do feel bad for Lister throughout the season, because while he gets a living version of Kochansky, the Lister she is in love
with is an alternative version of him.

The way I do multiple instruments is by switching the channel, I put one instrument on each channel and then I set the time to 0 seconds and start playing.V:10is an example of how to switch channels.P0is an example of how to set the position to 0 seconds, or maybe it's beats.I am still unsure about repeating sections and how to formulate them. I tried it out a couple different ways but they turned out to be syntactical errors.

I have to agree with your point about season 8. While I did somewhat enjoy it, I suppose the sudden difference in crew and atmosphere threw me off, so I spent the first couple episodes getting used to the new humor.Yes, Season 6 was really great. That seems to be the general opinion among people I've talked to. I did quite enjoy season 1 though. Future Echoes and The End are two episodes that never get old to me, though the rest of that season is a close second. Also, from what I've heard not having listened to it myself, the original series is far better than the Deck Talk version. If you listened to it and enjoyed it, I recommend giving the actual show a try.As for Star Trek compared to Red Dwarf, I only watched some of the episodes from the original series. While they too tend to go on wild adventures, admittedly more so by a long shot than Red Dwarf, to me the characters in that series seem a lot more logical and serious than those of Red Dwarf -- ev
en Holly, a computer with an IQ of 6000, makes himself out to be a downright git many times.

Any Red Dwarf fans out there?

Hi guys,I know this show's not widely talked about now a days among American youths anyway, but does anyone around here like Red Dwarf?I do for a number of reasons: firstly, though it is science fiction, it is in a way that is not overwhelmingly boring; even the high ranking officials are portrayed as smeg heads, if you will, at times. Not to mention, despite the countless times I've watched it, the jokes in most of the episodes are still not old to me.Currently, I've only been able to obtain access of seasons 1 through 8, because those were posted on Youtube. Season 9 I heard was not interesting, and 10 and 11 are on ITunes, and unless there is another source I can either get or buy them from I will end up buying the seasons from there. While we're on this topic, have any of you also read the Red Dwarf books? If so, what did you think? I myself have never gotten around to checking them out, on account of them not being on Bard and my not
  having an Audible account.

See, my thing is, and this may be completely off of what this conversation has turned into because I only read the first 3 posts, hating and not accepting something as okay are two different things. For example, I myself cringe at the thought of people changing their genders or dating the same sex, it's not something I myself would ever do so when others do it I am unable to understand why they would. On the other hand, I don't hate them; I just don't accept it as being okay because God says it's not according to his rules. Does that mean I hate them? No. Does it mean I wouldn't be friends with them? No. It just means I refuse to believe being LGBT is okay.

They probably understand no matter what they are taking a risk: what they implement has the ability to either make them or break them, in other words people may find their decision creative and innovative, so they could become somewhat of a leader in the industry, known for making the technical advances, or it could make people not like them so much because they screwed up something they liked... but judging by the thing with the USB, I think it may be the former.

Re: I'm seriously concerned

@18 the general principle is that anyone is free to pursue life, liberty and happiness, so long as it doesn't conflict with someone Else's. In other words, a member of ISIS is not free to walk up to someone and cut their head off for not following their doctrine, no matter if it would grieve the terror group member to do so: it's against the law to kill, therefore you may not pursue that form of happiness. This principle is what the United States of America claims to be based on, I think we're getting better at it, but we are not the only ones: if schools in other countries are informing people they can be what they want, they presume that kid knows he/she can't go around bombing everything because well? you said I could do what I want and I have a sick mind...As for the questions you posed: no, one [shouldn't] do any of those things. Unfortunately though, people do: and just as Iron Cross32 pointed out in his post, one can only ignore it: it
39;s the trolls and those who hurt those they care about and who care about them that get hurt in the end, -- you cannot set off an avalanche and then expect to run bare foot to the bottom of the mountain without it catching up to you.But when you pay for a good or service, you are automatically entitled to that good/service, and when you charge for a good/service, that becomes your job to maintain it. Just as one cannot leave their gourmet dishes out, uncovered all night and expect no complaining / consequences from very surprised customers who stop in for a quick bight the next day and spend the rest of the day ridding themselves of everything they'd eaten, you cannot walk away from or not deliver a game if you have someone's hard earned money going towards it. See, unjustified entitlement is like someone brought up earlier: you make your wife make you a sandwich, only to gripe at [her] for not doing it right, when you could've very well! Gotten up and made th
e bloody thing yourself. That's, a bully. That's, a troll. That's, a self entitled little brat. Not someone who gives a developer $15 for a product, wishes the developer well, offers to help in any way they can, only for the developer to treat them like dirt and on top of that, not even refund them! And then the icing on the cake, have fellow members tell them to shut up, be grateful and nice, or you'll make us all look bad. Sometimes yes, it is the complainer's fault here, and you're absolutely right, complaining does not resolve the issue. But if a developer has the right to take money, and then not deliver the product the money was put towards, and then tell us all we're ungrateful and rude, then as many people as want to have the right to vent their frustrations, it doesn't matter if it helps or not. Nothing we do will help, short of a legal battle of course, that's all up to Gyro. And I get the point of "be as constructive as po
ssible", I try to do so myself: I have learned that calling someone a stupid little retard or something similar, unlike complaining, does not tell them what the problem is. This is why I have refused to write a one liner on the edge of winter topic, or the swamp topic, and when I told people like Gyro I wouldn't be bothered if they left, I gave reasons both working up to it and beyond so they knew why. Because remember, even constructive criticism can be harsh sometimes: how do you build a structure without hammering nails in? If the wood crumbles from the hammering, it is not fit for the job.

Yes, that is true: ignoring it is the best option, because there is in fact nothing that can be done about it. Though that whole part above what you said about the parenting thing, it seems like it gets a bit of a pass around here, (edge of winter as one example).

Also I noticed I did put "assume an administrative role in the community", so that could've also been perceived as attack on forum staff. I should probably consider re-wording my figurative language.

Re: I'm seriously concerned

Yes, you did misunderstand me: this thread has not been about the audio games.net forum: it's the blind community in general. The self appointed higher ups and admins reference was not targeting actual administrators of online communities as I said. Parental figures and those who feel the need to inform others that they aught to shut up and be good little blind kids was not referring to working administrators on a forum doing their job to insure their forum does not become a mudslide of flaming matches and you and your family suck messages. But if Aprone hasn't updated swamp in several months and there happens to be a couple page of comments that aren't "you did oh so great of a job!", but who's comments are not on the line where moderation needs to step in, I don't believe someone has the right to hop on and tell everyone who was posting to just stop being negative, pay up, and re populate the game. Similarly, I am referring to situations like t
he edge of winter topic: Danny especially is known for being one of the more nice types of this forum, and I was at least trying there, because I did not inform Gyro that he was a (insert any insult that might get mod warning here). Both of us, like the rest of the people, simply got frustrated: there were complaints on that topic, as well as requests for refunds, and then we get people who come over and tell us we're being entitled, making customer service workers loathe their jobs, and that we should stop because our attitude will give the whole community a bad rep.  So no, it's not moderators of forums like yourselves who I have an issue with. Authority is authority, it's everywhere, and without it would exist only anarchy. You have been doing a wonderful job so far as I can tell. I was simply pointing out certain people, (this goes beyond just those on this forum), in the blind community, who I've noticed believe it is in their right to perform suc
h hypocrisy. I can understand how this could've been perceived as an attack on the administrators who run this forum since yes, it was posted on this forum and referred to it several times, but I figured I'd post my thoughts about the community in general, and see what others had to say.

I'm seriously concerned

2016-11-14 Thread AudioGames . net ForumOff-topic room : severestormsteve1 via Audiogames-reflector

I'm seriously concerned

Hi all,  I do not mean the below post to be condemnatory to anyone in this community, and I know what you're thinking, I'm not writing another one of those "blind community is horrible because" posts that we've all seen at some point. But honestly, there is something that is really concerning me.  See, in the environment in which I was raised, I've been taught that just because I'm blind, I don't deserve to be set apart and treated completely different from people just like me, only with a bit more use for their eyes. I was still allowed to be myself, learn like everyone else, and do what I wanted as long as it didn't get me in trouble.  But as I've come more into the blind community, I've began to find something, that has become more and more clear to me over the years. I guess it is because we're so small, and there are a number of us who could perhaps be more sheltered than most due to
our condition. I'm not calling anyone out or looking down upon anyone, but it's a fact. But for whatever reason, there are those of us who seem to take it upon themselves as playing a sort of parental role: telling the rest of us we need to calm down, that we're acting entitled and going as far as implying we're a disgrace to this community and giving it a bad rep, informing us of what we should do with our opinions (stop complaining, stop ranting because it does nothing, be constructive etc), and last but not least they have been known at time to try and manipulate us by informing us we should be grateful for x developer or y game, no matter if we feel that the game's powers that be are compromising our gaming experience, the game is being poorly maintained, or we're not getting what we paid for. In fact, there was an instance a couple weeks ago where I spotted a community member's post informing us all that a certain developer had worked tireles
sly to create the game we were reporting more bugs than praises on, which by the way hadn't been updated in several months and is ran on a subscription based payment system, and told us all that we should just renew our accounts, get on and make it like it was before, and stop complaining so the developer wouldn't have so much negativity to weed through.  See, my problem is this. We all are aware that in this world we live in, nothing is unanimously liked: I do not just mean product wise, I mean opinion and how opinion is stated. I myself get irritated when someone else tells me my opinion is wrong, but it's usually a quick flash and then I remember hey, I don't like your opinion. And you probably don't like my opinion that your opinion that mine is wrong is, well, wrong. But who cares? Opinions. It's not hurting anyone. No, what I have a problem with is:1. It is these people who believe they actually have, the right, to dictate how so
meone states an opinion because perhaps the wording or punctuation did not conform to their guidelines of what is and what is not cringe worthy. 2. It is those people who believe it is their position to inform those of us who have something to say that is longer than what they'd prefer to read on the subject matter that we should stop ranting, because it "helps nothing". 3. It is those, people, who tell us our opinion helps nothing when we have something negative to say, but encourage it when it is something that would make the developer smile, I.E. A compliment, a nicely worded suggestion, or, similar to point number 1, not something they personally find discouraging. Please, do feel free to correct me, but only excepting opinion based on what, according to your mind set, is rude or not, is quite a definite form of bigotry.  And again, it's not the opinions of those above 3 things I find completely unjustified. No, because if it was, would
n't this whole post be a big wet slop of gourmet bigotry at its finest? No, it's the fact that, as stated in the above paragraphs, some people take it upon themselves to "reign in" those whom they feel are going out of line, by these standards. "I think some people need to calm down" and "some people just need to calm down" are two different things. But that's not even the main point either: what right does anyone have to tell me that opinions like mine are a disgrace to the blind community? What right does a single member of this community have to tell me that I should knock off my "entitled" attitude because it is causing the game developers they seem to revere so much to up and quit? That's not opinion, that's attempt to force someone to conform based on manipulation. And the way I see it is, people complain all the time in the real world. People speak out, fight for what they want, etc in the real world. Others sti
ll, inform them of their not so fond opinion of their complaining. But the president of the United States does not tell the protesters to just shut up, because they're the reason previous people of his position have abandoned them to go fall apart or

Re: Some Questions About Sharing Files Through My Blog

If you're willing to put forth some money, I'd say go get a web host or virtual private server and install it there. You'd still get the functions of a Word Press dashboard, but depending on the web host's limitations you'd have more space and file format options. Alternatively you could purchase Word Press premium (Word Press for business I think it's called), though that is definitely pricey. On my blog I simply baught 10 gb of storage space since I only tend to upload audio files there, but your site sounds like a media content heavy resource, so I'd definitely consider going with a web host or server with self hosted Word Press (wordpress.org).

That is, unless his ban lasts only 6 months. If that's the case? He's on his way back in the near future. But yes Sam, I agree that your system should be based on something else, as the way it currently stands, makes it extremely unrelyable. For example: one's internet could experience a 2 - 3 second cutout, causing their coordinates on the server to update erratically once the internet starts working again, and it looks like a speed hack, therefore causing the program to close. For example, last night I was only jumping around looking for someone who's brains I could use to fertilize the soil, when all the sudden I was booted for speed hacking.

These will switch the instruments. for a list of what number goes to what instrument, seehttps://www.midi.org/specifications/ite … -sound-setyou can also set the channel, though I forgot what command that was.  And also, in addition to this, there is a language called mml, and another called zel.

You know, as much as I like the good old Zombie story, I have to say that Unicorns would win, since really all you have to do to kill off a zombie is destroy its brain, which, given the wrotten nature of all that which protects said brain, is a 30 second task at the most.   On the other hand, all I have to say is, either way you combine the names of zombie and unicorn, it still sounds like something a human would ingest: unizom sounds like a sleeping aid, though I can't spell its actual name, and zombiecorn sounds like a brand of popcorn devised by some cartoon company.   I'd say dragons beat both, however, but this is a debatable subject since even though dragons can blow fire at people and fly around, unicorns can perform magic, and who's not to
say one of their magical abilities wouldn't be to disintegrate that oh so powerful breath of fire that dragon just worked so hard to breathe out? Anyway, I'll be watching this topic I'm curious to see what people can come up with, -- if anything.

I would be awake enough for my brain to have the occasional thought of, "I need to get up and do [something]", but not enough to actually coax itself into full lucidity. During this time, I would go through repeated sycles of feeling as though I were falling backwards, as though trying to ride down a slide on my back. This would usually be accompanied by a dizzying sensation interspersed with flashing lights and short birsts of high frequency noises. This would go on and on for I'm not sure how long, but it felt like minutes in the dream. Sometimes, I'd think that I needed to get up, but I'd fall asleep and have a dream that tried to simulate what my brain expected I would be doing when I finally did get up, I.E. I would have a dream of going out of my room and getting breakfast, but I'd only partially know it was a dre
am due to the lingering dizzying situation. When I finally would manage to wake up from these dreams or whatever the whole ordeal was, I'd find myself tired, not feeling as though I'd gotten enough rest. So I'm not really sure if those were actually my brain trying to wake up but not having the proper stimuli, or perhaps my thoughts were those of waking up but my mind was still too tired to commence with fully waking up.

Well, seems we dodged Tuesday's tornadoes but some could still occur Thursday night... maybe? Hopefully not.@CAE we got some rough tornadoes in December, -- namely the day after Christmas where 11 to 13 of them popped in about a 6 hour time stretch, and a tornado leveled a town about... hmm... 10 minutes after the meteorologist stated that conditions were not favorable for large dangerous tornadoes. Oh well, that kind of situation is highly unpredictable.  Well, as it's spring break, I've been coding a lot on Breakout, adjusting some stuff involving ball movement and trying to implement forms of strategy in both game play and point spending really. Played through the old version of my breakout game and discovered just how... er... unpredictable the ball movement was since it was basically random, it's much smoother and more predictable in this version, --- I at least have little to no problem hitting it.  Also it's kind of fun a

Mine is this.  Competition is good, and hey! It's okay to point out the advantages of your products over "the leading brand" or "others of its kind", or something general like that. But once you get to directly attacking a company and or product, that's a tiny bit too far. It's perfectly possible to compete with others who are creating products just like yours, -- look! NVDA and JAWS! Michael and James don't indulge in any of that Freedom Science Fiction business or name calling.

@Dark ah. Upon further inspection I discovered that it's my Shockwave, and I cannot update that since it apparently won't if I don't except Nortin Internet Security or something. PFF.  Aside from that I'm now on spring break, and I had quite a busy weekend; a foreign exchange student with whom my sister and I play Goal ball with spent the weekend here.  Today is alright, I've re-coded parts of breakout to insure that ball speed depended on paddle strength and didn't increase over time, as it could quickly become unmanageable for paddles with high strengths.  Finally, I'm a bit nervice since a tornado outbreak could be coming tomorrow night, and that will be the second this winter if it does. Last time a tornado leveled a town 20 minutes drive from my house, so as you can imagine I and the majority of other people who live here are hoping that doesn't happen.

Re: Monthly chat March 2016

Ah. I played Rebound when I was 11-12-13 but I didn't really get the whole Breakout concept, though looking back now I'm sure I'd have been addicted. But in my breakout version you don't necessarily have bat extentions, -- bats have extends and width property, and that varies on the pattle. Currently I have 2 in the store, though adding them is quite simple, (typing 1 line of code), and I have 2 balls in the store as well.  I've also designed it so that it's not "required" that you purchase upgraded equipment in later levels, however I designed the higher levels so that they cannot be beaten with low level equipment, and not purchasing that will cause you to miss out on rewards.  I'm currently working on a timed level that involves breaking Chester the cat out of his cage, which he calls jail, in which his master put him for using the newspapers in the office again and allegedly breaking down the gate in order to g
et in and do so, and not to mention knocking all the bricks from the table and sleeping on it.  --Yes, I know. Normal people would know that their cats cannot break down a metal gate or smash all the 30 bricks they placed on their kitchen table. but Chester's "Master" is a very peculiar individual... obviously.  That aside. You have to break it down in a certain amount of seconds to earn tradepoints, and even less time, which can only be achieved with the highest paddle and ball you can afford, to perhaps earn a useless ball.

@Dark me too, although I still haven't managed to beat even the second difficulty level thus far.  I actually got the tradepoints idea from that version, as well as the different balls, but I don't know if you can purchase different paddles in that game.  I got the pop instructions idea, (those that pop up and enter must be pressed to close them), from Marinabreak and other of Yukio's games, because I simply like that way of delivering instructions to the user since they are practically impossible to miss. The rest of what I've implemented is my idea completely, -- I won't say it doesn't coincide with any other breakout style game as I obviously haven't played them all, though the aliens one you have talked about sounds really enticing. What exactly is the Amiga, where can I get to it, and what platform does it use?

I'm actually redesigning breakout the s quad way, because I played it last week and realized how flawed it's mechanics were, especially because the ball was unpredictable. I actually took the liberty to implement missions, upgrades, stats, and two forms of currency, as well as fixing the other stuff, albeit I reckon these missions are quite bizarre and unexpected if what you are expecting is a traditional breakout style game. The tutorial is normal enough, but once a fat Black Cat (?) (?), who's owner, whom he has named "Master" by the way, gives him tradepoints even though he obviously can't use them, storing them in a chip on his collar, starts ordering you to break down bricks arranged on a kitchen table so that he can get up there and sleep in exchange for tradepoints, and then having to use your ball and paddle to destroy a metal gate blocking the office so he can crawl in and transfer said tradepoints, that's when it becomes quite nontradit
ional.  Needless to say, I'm focusing more on interesting and weird and never-heard-of story for this, to add a twist to the breakout genre. Also once I release, cranking out missions is a matter of reusing already present mechanics, so no bugs will arise, making updating much more efficient and providing more room for creativity.  Does this mean the end of my other games? Of course not! I'm actually just doing this redesign out of obligation for the most part, and again adding missions to it is more story writing than it is coding.  Oh and also, I registered for Twitter here in the last month, my handle is @savage_genius16.  That's about all for me.

Laws about composing music?

Hi all,  so I've recently been messing with qws, because I want to compose some music for my games and such.  That said, I have some concerns. Obviously, I don't download and check out every instrumental track there is, so I have no idea what they sound like. And I don't play mainstream games, so I definitely, don't, know what those music loops sound like.  So my real question is this: if I were to compose music for my games, and it happened to sound (nearly) exactly like someone else's music, how would I avoid getting in trouble for that? What should I do to insure people would know I composed it and didn't take someone else's and mod it a bit?

Hi all,  I didn't exactly use Music Beeper itself for this. I ended up writing a type of program that acts as a wrapper to the bgt tone synth object, using syntax like this program (music beeper) uses but measured in beets and tempo. I still thought I'd share this song though, because it is made with waveform tones. I coded all the notes and cords by hand, but listening to it now, the beginning kind of sounds like a song that already exists, I can't place the song though. 2016-02-15 Thread AudioGames . net ForumOff-topic room : severestormsteve1 via Audiogames-reflector

A very strange problem with Dropbox.

Hello all,  So Dropbox is being very strange, at least for me.  On Saturday morning, all files were cleared from the S Quad Racing testing folder. I looked in the recent events and found out who it was, talked to them about it, and moved on. However, later on I tried to start dropbox on my computer. I can press enter on the shortcut all I want, but it won't start, here's how I know:1. System Tray. I actually thought I was wrong about this at first because of Windows Adware putting it's Get Windows 10 icon there, but I disabled that and Dropbox still won't show up.2. Context menu in the public folder. No View on Dropbox.com, and no Copy Public link. Also for the other folders I have, no Shared folder options, and no View on Dropbox.com.  Do any of you know what could be causing the problem? Any help would be appreciated.Thanks,Steve.

Re: Monthly chat February 2016

Well yes Dark, regarding Matt the Terrorist I actually read a book recently that added more touch to its developing story, and I think that in time it could grow into a pretty long and extensive game, oh how I wish there was a way to bold the words, in time, in a way that screen readers would recognise because it will take a while. However I do so far have an engine with material and environmental effects, not a lot, but I'd say that's good for it being a side project. Also, I think college will be better for me than high school, because as you said people will be interested in the same things as me. All I can say, though, is that those who claim that high school is the best time of their lives either A, have a bad life or, B, somehow had a great high school experience.

Re: Monthly chat February 2016

Well Dark? Good question.  Me, I'm pretty much wading through an endless sea of dreadfully boring school days which I begrudgingly face with an eye of rebellious contempt. Which is to say, I wish they'd end.  Still, there are things to look forward to. Danny from this forum and I are in contact every single day, so usually after school I spend my evenings relaxing, talking with him, though admittedly him and I Skype chat back and forth during my school days. On another note, work with S Quad Racing and the Matt the Terrorist engine are going quite well. As for the former I feel a bit bad since I haven't released a patch for it to my testing team in 16 days, though I'm striving to add some features before I do so and expect to by the end of the week.

Re: I probably shouldn't be posting this

Thing is, @21, that used to happen quite a lot. I understand that mods cannot check each and every single little topic, but if something gets reported then it's causing the community unrest and therefore should be looked into. And I can't speak for everyone here, but I try to report posts/users which I find to be spamming, flaming, etc.

I probably shouldn't be posting this

I probably shouldn't be posting this. And if it gets me in trouble, or flamed, or takes away my respect, oh well. At least I can say I tried.  I have to admit, I'm quite concerned for this forum. For the most part, it's good. Great developers, wonderful people more than willing to lend a hand and chat, decent people to develop games, you get the picture.  But recently, I've begun to sense a dromatic decrease in the quality and or activity of the moderators of the forum. Let me give you all a personal example.  Remember when I got banned? (Yes, I'm actually bringing up my own faultage)? Yeah, I was bad. Real real bad. I flamed and caused drama like all the little kids, like all the lowest ones. And guess what happened? I got a nice big ban slapped into my face, just like I deserved.  But recently? I've noticed a decline in the discipline and control of the forum. Go to the new releases room and you'll s
ee for yourself. 6, 7 Ultra Power topics. All with the same thing. All with the same drama. All with the same conclusion. All, with no, moderation!  I won't point fingers, as that's not my place to do so. But there are a few people at least, who continually cause trouble here, only one of which who's been given a warning, last week I think it was. But they keep creating the Ultra Power topics, fighting and mudslinging in them, and then letting them fall back through the pages only to create another in an hour, day, week, month...but nothing longer than that.  And while it's easy to ignore, to blow them off, to laugh and go on with our day, people are getting tired of it. Simply the fact that more  and more topics of this nature are popping up, more and more of the same spammish and childish thing. Even still, it's not as much a point of how tired people get of seeing "Ultra Power" painted on the top of the new releases ro
om, it's also a reflection of the moderation of this forum. If this nonsense had been going on a year ago, I.E when I was banned for pulling nonsense of my own, it would've came to a screeching  hault. But now, these Ultra Power topics, all of which containing at least a medium degree of flaming, just remain open. And all it's teaching these people is that they can get off scott free for opening them and, for that matter, spamming and causing flame wars.  Again, I probably shouldn't have posted this, and who knows. Everyone might just be against me for it. But clearly, the new releases room is hardly being checked, the Ultra Power topic(s) even less frequently. So, maybe this will be looked into, maybe people will agree with me, maybe that nonsense will be stopped. Or, maybe it might get 30 or so passing views and fall into the sea of dead topics on page 20. I don't know. But again, at least I said what I thought, right?

Re: I probably shouldn't be posting this

True. Although on the banning front, there are one, two, maybe three people who have demonstrated bad behavior enough times that literally other forum members call them out on it. Those who start topics like these could also be given warnings as it could be considered a hostile topic better stayed away from, though I say this with a degree of uncertainty, as I don't really know if this would be against forum policy...as in the moderators trying not to tell people what they can and can't talk about.

@4 agreed. We had a great balance of, not too "over-moderated" and not too "out of control". I think such a balance could be restored if further recruitment occured, or perhaps especially if Dark came back. No, Aaron you are not a bad moderator, quite reasonable and just in your judgement most of the time, --but you are human so sometimes things could be overlooked by mistake and hints misjudged. I haven't seen any other mods recently besides you and Dark doing active duty though, and with one of you experiencing large-scale life changes, the few mistakes you do end up make are at least a little bit justified. One person moderating hundreds of others and tens of topics at once has got to be hard no doubt.

Gaming headset on an hp laptop?

Hi guys,  I have a gaming headset now. But the problem is that it has two plugs -- one for the actual headphones, another for the microphone, you know. But the problem is that I have an hp Pavillion, which only has one 3.5mm headphone jack, so I can only have either the microphone plug, or the headphones plug plugged into the laptop at once. What do I need to buy in order to be able to plug both of these in? I'd look it up on Amazon or whatever myself, but I don't want to click the wrong item as I have no idea as to what I'm looking for.

As for not releasing games on time, none of your games were paid for and from what I've seen there have been no "late" games from you.  As for your reputation, that's only up to you to fix. We all can tell you we support you and are excepting for change, but it's only you who can prove to us you can change. In other words. Words are one thing, but no matter how loud you speak them your actions will always speak louder.  So, I don't know. Can you repair it? Can you dig yourself out of the hole you dug yourself into?  Remember though, this doesn't just mean on this forum. it's Twitter and everywhere else. Unfortunately, now, whatever you say to people there could get repeated. It's unfortunate, but it still
is. So my advice is, be careful, and make an effort to change.

Re: Monthly chat December 2015

I don't plan on watching Starwars, I'm personally not really a fan of that kind of thing. But it's the last day of school before holidays, it's just a half day, and as far as I know I'm exempt from my semester exams today, which probably means I'm going to continue my project of the month, (not officially but it's what I've been working on all month), the building system in my new side scrolling game engine I'm working on.  I don't actually think this building system has ever been tried before in audio games, so basically here's my process.1. Figure out how I want to code an aspect the system.2. Open Pure Basic, and throw down some code that I... assume might work?3. Laugh in surprise when I run it and find that it works, which is usually about 75% of the time, or shrug otherwise and try again.  I started a topic earlier this months about shift keys in the general games discussion room,
and the system I've been working on was why. This month I coded some (unrealistic but useful) arms, that can be used to both drop and throw items, as well as connecting building materials to structures in order to, well, build them, as well as a new experimental system of feeling. Basically, the way you "feel" objects in my game engine is that, say you're standing on a platform, you hold left shift, and while you're holding that you press down arrow, causing it to tap on the platform segment you are standing on. It will report "segment of platform name, with a length of segment length, and thickness of segment thickness", with platform name, segment length, and segment thickness being substituted for their respective values.  You can also feel things out to the left, right, or above you, as far as your arms can reach.  I'm sorry for boring you all with that rant about my new side scrolling game mechanics, I really am. I
just got overly excited when writing about it. Please forgive me.

Re: Monthly chat December 2015

@Cool_Turk thanks much.  As far as my life these past few days or weeks or months, who knows these days, it's relatively stress free. I have the feeling I might have started my S Quad Racing Beta Testing team a bit too early, simply because I don't have the time or patients to consistantly code on a project full time like that. Still, for their benefit, and so that I can actually make my vision for the game come true, I've been working. Slow working is still working, isn't it?  School is okay. I'm kind of excited, because one of the classes that really seems to spike a great deal of depression within me is being replaced with a web class, something I'm highly optimistic about because I for one get to spend two classes with my favorite teacher, and for two am interested in web development, that and most other things computer and code and tech related. Even still, I'm agoraphobic, and unfortunately this only seems to be getti
ng worse. People, at school anyway, well they intimidate me. It's not all of them, but to put a long story short, I'm not exactly the person you'd see shaking hands and greeting everyone with a smile upon my face. I basically got two "life coachings" the other day from two separate teachers, telling me that I should ask for help more when I need it. Not in an unfriendly way, and I'd be lying if I said they were wrong. But that's just me, I guess. A diligent worker when I want to be, a very shy individual except when I'm talking to my best friend or a certain girl who has my heart, and I guess with that there is a hesitance to ask for help.  Besides that, it's winter, and I guess my body is just catching up. I felt good earlier, but not so much anymore. My head aches, and I'm tired, and I can feel my head slowly stuffing up. Oh well.  That's basically about it for me.

Re: This isn't for attention

That is a major problem, and it's another one of those "fine line" issues. Many teenagers are rebellious, out of control, and yes, immature. And when I say many, I'm not saying it in the since that "most all of them", I mean there are a lot like that. But because of those, and the fact that younger people in a lot of cases don't know how to express their emotions in a civilized manner, they are often misconstrued as childish tantrums, or in other cases, like what seems to be the case with Ghost Rider, attributed to lack of knowledge and wisdom due to a lack of years. And unfortunately, at least here in the states, it works like this. The adults are assumed to know best, especially for those holding parental status. Their decisions are final. And whether or not the teen or child has a say in the matter, (until they leave the parent's home), is dependent on the parent's willingness to listen. Also, I can see what Turtlepower meant in her
post, 26, but I suppose the awkward and dishonorable feelings come from the desire to keep a relationship with "family" and not to let them down.  But I personally believe it's all wrong. I'm under the belief that while discipline and structure are needed, just as with open mindedness and willingness to listen, that there is a such thing as going a bit too far. For example, where I live, it is compulsory, for all children to attend school, and consequences will be faced for not doing so. The problem is, though, there are students there who do not care, and have no desire to be there. I want success for myself, and I want a good education, but some people don't, and show that shamelessly. And while I'm almost certain that they will grow up and regret that, I also believe that if they got the chance to quit school and turn themselves into nothing, they could learn the dangers of the path they plan to take, and it would motivate them to go back
and make something of themselves, versus being told they must, get an education and try to be successful when they clearly don't want to. It might hurt them, but sometimes that's the only good way to learn. And ultimately, in the end, they'll be doing what's right, motivated by past experience.
