RE: Converting RIP to EIGRP (Online)

2000-09-26 Thread Louie Belt

EIGRP does redistribute automatically into IGRP (with the same AS), IPX RIP,
and Appletalk RTMP. It does not automatically redistribute into IP RIP.

While redistributing from RIP into EIGRP is ok (some information is always
lost when redistributing), it is not a recommended practice to redistribute
EIGRP into RIP (or any classless routing protocol into a classful routing
protocol) if it can be avoided.

Jim, I'm going to bring this one back public, if you don't mind. I think
there are some points worth studying.

I did a quick lab to test a couple of things. I'm going to have to ask
everyone to trust me that all things are configured correctly. I don't want
to spend all night copying configs and writing books.

First of all, I can find no evidence of EIGRP automatically redistributing
anything but IGRP, and that only if the IGRP process has the same process
number as does the EIGRP process. This is in line with my recollection of my
reading and studying. For all protocols other than EIGRP/IGRP, one must
manually redistribute.

Secondly, I think you can migrate to EIGRP from your RIP environment with

Bandwidth Management

2000-09-26 Thread Sgp YH

Hi
I would like to know how to do bandwidth control using
6509 with MSFC. Basically, I have a number of VLANS
created and I would like to limit the amount of
bandwidth for each VLAN. (eg. VLAN10 - 1Mbps)

Also, can this be done on a per port basis?

Thanks in advance.

Problem with CiscoSecure ACS v2.3 for NT

2000-09-26 Thread Cletus . O . Ugwu

I normally access the admin port of CiscoSecure ACS v2.3 for NT with
browsers, Internet explorer 5.0 or Netscape 3.0. After adding a new user
account "phtmi2" I click submit, the system will appear to freeze and come
back in another 5 to 10 minutes that it cannot display the page. However,
for some other accounts it will just go in a jiffy.
I cannot really explain it. I keep getting into the same problem now and
then.
Please who can help me? I wonder if anybody else has bumped into
this kind of queer problem. Thanks in advance.

RE: bgp and ospf and synchronisation

2000-09-26 Thread Scott Aitken

I'll elaborate a bit more. My fault.
The BGP route in question is actually being learnt by OSPF and is in the route table.
On BGP peers which have an EBGP session, that route is in the BGP prefix table, but
comes in as "not sync..." when doing a sh ip bgp x.x.x.x
Now, when I put it a static route on with a lower administrative distance, which
therefore overwrites the OSPF learnt route, with the same info (next hop. etc), the
BGP route becomes synchronized immediately, like magic :). When I change the IGP to
RIP, it also works. (Boy have I spent some time on this one). Revert back to OSPF
and no good. Again.
Maybe it's a version thing, but with the exam coming up, I don't have the inclination
to upgrade all my routers to something else. I'm running 11.2 GD.
I know inserting no synchronization works, but I'd like to know why I need it with
OSPF, but not with RIP and statics.
Halabi's book, whilst a pretty good read, seems to stick no sync in every example they
have, even when the example would show that it is unnecessary.
Thanks
Scott

It seems to me that you've answered your own question. I currently run OSPF
-- BGP without the command 'no sync" on my EBGP peers. I've you carefully
read the rfc, or any BGP related document you'll discover that two
requirements must be meet in order for BGP to fully synchronized. The 2
requirements being that BGP knows of the route through redistribution or the
use of the network command. An secondly, the network being advertised must
be present in the route table(RIB). This would explain the ability to make
static routes and have BGP synchronized. I'm sure if you check your
running OSPF(IGP) routing tables for the networks that aren't synchronized
with BGP you will not find a route to these networks in your routing table
at all.

Does anyone know of a problem running OSPF as your IGP with BGP?
BGP seems to have trouble checking the routing table entries (for the
purposes of IGP synchronisation) when then are inserted by OSPF. With OSPF,
it seems you need to stick "no synchronization" on all the BGP peers running
EBGP.
I have a test network with OSPF and BGP. When I replace OSPF with RIP, or
even statics, the BGP routes are immediately synchronised, but with OSPF
they never are; hence the need to run "no sync...".
 Any thoughts?

A little trivia for you - the "M" stands for Martini

I've had a little exposure to Junipers - a course and some

Hi,

I've used booksamillion to purchase about 8 books, being delivered to the

sites, such as Amazon.co.uk, though they do take longer to arrive. So I
only order books from them that I'm not in hurry for. I would imagine the
delivery time in the US should be no problem?

Chuck,

I have EtherPeek, running on a DELL latitude, with W2K Pro. I use the
following:

  Farallon **Fast EtherTX-10/100 PN995-TX CardBus (21143) CRC,
Alignment,
*Runt, Oversize *Use special Digital driver with EtherPeek 4.0.2 and
later for capture of error packets. See Readme.txt in Driver\Dc21x4
directory where EtherPeek is installed for installation instructions.

See http://www.wildpackets.com/support/epwhardware.html#pcmcia for other
suggested cards that are compatible with EtherPeek. The Farallon card cost
me just under £100.00 in the UK, so I'm sure it would be a lot less than
$500.00

I also have NetSense, but have never used Sniffer Pro, so cannot compare
them.

Hope this helps.

 All,

I'm in the process of specing a new laptop for our company to use for
protocol analysis. I plan on running NT or 2000. Sniffer will have a
version for 2000 in November, a NAI rep told me. Has anyone used
Etherpeek,
and it's upper-layer portion - Netsense? How does it compare to Sniffer
Pro, which I've used quite a bit. Also, I'm looking for a Cardbus PCCard
to
use with it. I've heard rumors that 3Com cards perform hardware layer
error
filtering, so that errors aren't passed up the stack, hence the analyzer
won't see see any runts, collisions, etc. Using Sniffer Pro with a 3Com
card seems to verify this. Does anyone have any recommendations on a
Cardbus 10/100 card that doesn't filter errors. NAI told me they sell
their
own "version" of a Xircom card, but they want $500 for it. Any idea if
it's
 different from a retail version?

Upstream Provider--Router A

Consider Router A to have two links (1 and 2) to the upstream provider and
also Router B to have two links to the upstream provider (1 and 2)
Would it be possible to route traffic from Router A to Router B over say
link 1 and from Router A to the Internet and from Router B to the Internet
over link 2?

Basically, the routing decision has to be done on the source IP as well as
on the destination IP. Apart from Policy Based Routing, is there any other
way how this can be accomplished?

BSCN MANUAL at LAST!!!

2000-09-26 Thread Wannabe CCIE

After searching the earth and back, I have finally just bought a copy of the
official Cisco BSCN manuals (two in total) and believe me it's the bomb!!
I'm happy about my purchase cos I am confident that all I need to study for
the Routing exam is available in one place rather than studying blindly
using the Cisco website and various bits and pieces
I can hook you up with the person,he sold it to me for £70.00 if you're
currently preparing for your Routing 2.0 exams you'd know that there aren't
any books available yet..

Another advantage I found with the manual is that the topics are laid out in
an extremely easy and elementary manner that it makes an enjoyable read.
Every thing is covered afterall it's Cisco's official training manual,
although I have been studying with various materials…once I've been through
the manual thoroughly am sure I'll ace the exam…

£70.00 is a small price to pay considering the fact that I have been offered
the same thing for £300.
If you'd like one too email me direct or ring my mobile and I may be able to
get one for you…through my contact
I live in London!!!

Hi All,

In the docs and CLI I have studied and successfully implemented WCCP v1

However this is just for web traffic and it refers to other possible

But I cannot find the numbers for the different WCCP redirects and
there's no nice helpful redirect ftp-cache :(

Can anyone help me with some common ones or better yet a decent URL on

I've searched but to no avail, probably just bad search parameters

You are trying to solve something that is not a real
problem . The message :

Last Ring Status 00:32:29 Soft Error (0x2000)

indicates that the last status was a soft error .
Mostlikely because insertion/removal of a station in
the ring ( 1/2 hour ago ) . This is not a problem .

Are actually see a problem on the ring beside this

Has anyone taken the CCIE written before the CCNP tests? If so, did
you need to prepare for anything else that wasn't on the CCIE written?

I like using http://www.addall.com because it searches 30+ online bookstores
and calculates the best price with shipping. As I am sure a lot of you have
run into the sites that have the cheapest price on an item, BUT when you add
in "THEIR" shipping price it ends up being allot more than the others. My
favorite sites are the ones that offer free shipping and add on a 15-20
dollar "processing / administrative fee".

ethernet is up, line protocol is down

2000-09-26 Thread Rue Barb the Tangled

Hi guys - perhaps you can clairify something for me.

According to CIT - this means layer 1 is up, but layer 2 is down
(paraphrase) - what I need to know is the reprecussions of this -

In other words, can I ping this interface ip address from within the router?
Could I do a sh ip route on this ip address and at least try to see it?
Obviously, I can't do it from another router across the interface, but I
thought I'd be able to assign an ip address, ping it internally, and have it
ready to go when we get something to plug into it.

Kind of hitting my head against a wall here. Thanks.

Re: about the LED status

2000-09-26 Thread Dale Holmes

Gary - DON'T tell people what the questions on the exam were... You did
accept the Non-Disclosure Agreement, right? That means that you can't tell
people what's on the test.

You can't say: "I just took the test and I got this question that says blah,
blah, blah... What's the correct answer?"

You CAN say: "I have been studying blah, blah, blah, and I was wondering,
what is the behaviour of the LED's on catalyst switches?"

Better yet, get some Catalyst switches and connect them as described and
observe the behaviour of the LED's yourself...

Better luck on the exam next time!

Re: about the LED status

2000-09-26 Thread Charlie Hartwell

As long as that link is OK the LED will stay on.

Now, a quiet word about the NDA When you take these tests Cisco
get a bit upset if you go around repeating the questions - and so do
people who already have CCNP. You clicked an "accept" button before
the test started that had in the small-print "you will not disclose
any of the test material to anybodyever". I know, I know, nobody
EVER reads that stuff but still.
Say, if you had asked "I was wondering what the LED status would be
in this situation" that would be OK(ish) ;-)

Cheers

If you are studying to pass the test, the class books have all the info in
it that you will need (assuming GK uses the official Cisco material.) If you
really want to _know_ the subject matter, it wouldn't hurt to study other
material as well, such as stuff on the Cisco site.

 Subject: BSCN MANUAL at LAST!!!

After searching the earth and back, I have finally just bought a copy of
the

official Cisco BSCN manuals (two in total) and believe me it's the bomb!!
I'm happy about my purchase cos I am confident that all I need to study
for
the Routing exam is available in one place rather than studying blindly
using the Cisco website and various bits and pieces
I can hook you up with the person,he sold it to me for ?70.00 if you're
currently preparing for your Routing 2.0 exams you'd know that there
aren't
 any books available yet..

Another advantage I found with the manual is that the topics are laid out
in

an extremely easy and elementary manner that it makes an enjoyable read.
Every thing is covered afterall it's Cisco's official training manual,
although I have been studying with various materials...once I've been
 through
the manual thoroughly am sure I'll ace the exam...

?70.00 is a small price to pay considering the fact that I have been
offered

 the same thing for ?300.
If you'd like one too email me direct or ring my mobile and I may be able
to

get one for you...through my contact

Re: ethernet is up, line protocol is down

2000-09-26 Thread Dale Holmes

Hmmm... Ping, IP Address - all layer 3 stuff, right? Can't do layer 3 if
layer 2 is down...

You can do a "no keepalive" on an ethernet interface to bring it up without
actually pluggin it into anything. Is that what you are trying to do? Try
that and see if you get the results you are looking for.

Hello groups,

(itsshowing MAC address conflict with...which is my ethernet interface on
Cisco 3000). I have to restart/reboot the router and the conflict
disappear But sometime it happen again when I reboot my
computer.

Already tried:
1) I ugrade from version 11.3 to 12.1 still get
same error.
2) Map IP NAT Static to different computer (or IP
address) and running computer that have map IP on router, still get exactly
error.

Any solution with IP NAT Static ?

Booksamillion is one of the best online book resources for our study group
in Atlanta. They've been very responsive to our requests and gives
exceptional pricing that beats www.bookpool.com, www.amazon.com,
www.borders.com and www.bn.com. We've ordered as little as 10 to as much as
20+ books. They also let you setup a commercial acct. where none of the
other online sources will. If you go to www.addall.com they beat everyone
hands down, everytime! If you get the $5.00 discount card, you save even
more. Essentially, they're not too good to be true, they're
FAD...Functioning as Designed...to save US money!

The other person that recommended www.half.com appears to be a good resource
for used Cisco books and also allows you to resell those you're looking to
get rid of, for a 'free' listing. If sold, they require 15% of the sold
price, which is pennies, so if anyone has any 'actual' experience using them
as a source, we'd be interested in hearing about it. We're always
interested in passing on good info. to our members.

Happy ordering...BTW, we're not receiving one dime or cookie for this 'free'
advertisement...yet! :-))

This is just a shameless plug but a well deserved one at that.

I just purchased a few pieces of equipment from Brad Ellis (www.optsys.net) and I have to say that he did a great job! The equipment all arrived that same week in great condition. Kudos on the turn-around time Brad! Also, the BEST thing about working with Brad is that he sends you everything you need...cables, documentation, etc. He even sent me a MAU, media adapter, and TR patch cable for the 2502 I ordered!

If you need equipment, call him. You won't go wrong.

FDDI Bridges

2000-09-26 Thread kent claudius

I am working to understand how Cisco handles FDDI
bridges, but I can't see to find a definitive answer
on what I need. I know that if you have 2 bridges
that are connected via FDDI and they each have
Ethernet hosts on the other side the ethernet hosts
can communicate with each other because of
encapsulation the bridges do between each other. BUT,
lets say you have one station on the FDDI ring, say a
SAS, could it communicate with the Ethernet hosts? I
am assuming it could since it can translate Ethernet
to FDDI and FDDI to Ethernet, then it should be able
to to just one of those by itself Does anyone
know where I can find info on this? And don't answer
www.cisco.com, I looked their and found some clues,
but not a definitive yes or no. It appears that if
you use a translation bridge it will work(?). If you
use a transparent bridge it never will because there
is not change in encapsulation(?) Thanks in advance.

run into the sites that have the cheapest price on an item, BUT when you add
in "THEIR" shipping price it ends up being allot more than the others. My
favorite sites are the ones that offer free shipping and add on a 15-20

NO you will not be able to ping it.
You will not see it in the show ip route command.

If you want to bring it up just for testing then you can enter the command
"no keepalive" in the interface configuration mode to bring it up but do
that for testing only and once its up you can ping it and also see it in the
routing table.

Migrating from EIGRP to OSPF

2000-09-26 Thread Cthulu, CCIE Candidate

Hi, all,

Does anyhone have any links, documents, etc. about migrating from EIGRP to
OSPF? Any gotchas in the process? Basically, I am looking for
recommendations/comments on the most efficient way to do this such that the
change is not visible on the network.

Given that the AD of EIGRP is lower than OSPF, my initial knee jerk reaction
is to simply build and lay OSPF over the EIGRP, then gradually remove EIGRP,
starting with the edges and working in towards the core. As I do that, OSPF
routes will be injected into the routing table. The main problem I see with
this is that a more specific route will be inserted into the routing table,
regardless of the protocol source.Any thoughts/comments on that
approach?

TIA,

Charles

Hi guys - perhaps you can clairify something for me.

According to CIT - this means layer 1 is up, but layer 2 is down
(paraphrase) - what I need to know is the reprecussions of this -

In other words, can I ping this interface ip address from within the
router?
Could I do a sh ip route on this ip address and at least try to see it?
Obviously, I can't do it from another router across the interface, but I
thought I'd be able to assign an ip address, ping it internally, and have
it
ready to go when we get something to plug into it.

Kind of hitting my head against a wall here. Thanks.

Re: FW: booksamillion - GREAT SOURCE--Half.com

2000-09-26 Thread JLBCisco

I ordered a book from www.half.com the Friday before Labor Day. They are
required to get conformation of shipping from the seller within 2 days and
didn't, due to the holiday, so they cancelled the order and notified me.

I then re-ordered it, and also was notified that it was cancelled in error
and that they were re-doing the order for me. I emailed back saying be sure
I don't get double billed for this but then received two separate shipments
anyway. So now I have two copies of Top Down Network Design. I emailed them
back asking what to do with the second book and not to charge me twice, they
responded with an apology and that I was to keep the second book as their
gift.

Happiness is.

RE: booksamillion - GREAT SOURCE

2000-09-26 Thread Westmoreland, Alexis

I have used half.com. The experience depends on the seller. I ordered six
book one time. They were all coming from different sellers. Some books came
within a week and some took a couple of weeks. For the savings it was worth
it if you don't need the book right away. Before you order read the review
of the person u r ordering from. I recently ordered a Cisco book that lists
as $70 for $29.

Thank all.

I still have a hard time with these two; intra and inter.

I still get confused. In the OSPF with multiple areas, it describes how
stub area carries Intra-area and Inter-area routes but not routes external
to the AS.

Is intra-area routes, routes with in the area?
Is inter-area routes, routes outside of the area, but does not include
routes outside of the AS?

It would help if you can give me some help with this concept.

This is in line with my recollection of
my
reading and studying. For all protocols other than EIGRP/IGRP, one must
manually redistribute.

Secondly, I think you can migrate to EIGRP from your RIP environment with
little worry. Check out the following:

1) I set up a RIP network on three routers. Here is the routing table:

Router#sh ip route
Codes: C - connected, S - static, I - IGRP, R - RIP, M - mobile, B - BGP
D - EIGRP, EX - EIGRP external, O - OSPF, IA - OSPF inter area
N1 - OSPF NSSA external type 1, N2 - OSPF NSSA external type 2
E1 - OSPF external type 1, E2 - OSPF external type 2, E - EGP
i - IS-IS, L1 - IS-IS level-1, L2 - IS-IS level-2, ia - IS-IS inter
area
* - candidate default, U - per-user static route, o - ODR
P - periodic downloaded static route

I'm getting "not bad" at searching CCO.

However, I've drawing a blank try to find a link that will explain the
feature set for Service Provider IOS.

I found out by accident that Service Provider IOS doesn't include bridging
as the routers in our lab have SP and when I tried to configure "bridge 1

Sure enough, do a ? at conf t and no "bridging" stuff is there.

So, can anyone point me to the feature set for Service Provider IOS?

RTP port numbers

2000-09-26 Thread John Deatherage

Cisco recommends using:

ip rtp 16384 16383 bandwidth

for RTP. Out of the range 16384-32767 that VoIP uses, how does it use the
port numbers? What ports are used for fax? I have looked on Cisco's
website and I have not been able to find any good information on this.

Also, these are UDP ports. I can think of other applications that use this
port range. It seems kind of silly to give that large of a range priority
without other QoS methods in place.

ATM Config

2000-09-26 Thread Kevin Wigle

and while I'm asking

getting lots of use out of the lab here..

I've got 3 4700/4500s with an ATM interface, a 7505 with ATM and an LS-1010.

Using a config from Hutnick, I can't seem to get connectivity.

On page 287 for the cmd "sh atm vc", Status is shown as "ACTIVE".

I only see "UP". Also, I can't ping from one ATM router to the other.

On the LS-1010, I see "UpAndNormal" for the ILMI state and "Idle" for the
SSCOP state.

Sitting on any router, (telnet in) I cannot ping the ATM interface of that
router, but I can ping any other address on the router as well as stuff on
the lab network.

Any thoughts? No special config here, bare bones just trying to get from
router to router over ATM.

Frank, the pricing tool my employer uses puts the list price at $750.oo

I understand the plan is that this module will become supported in the 26xx

The same pricing tool shows that Cisco is offering a 1720-ADSL package for

I have not pursued this in terms of validating memory and IOS versions

Kevin, I took a look for you and didn't find much either. I did find an info page on the SP IOS, but it is rather weak. Since I don't know what type of bridging you want to do, this link may still help or at least point in the right direction.

Re: Migrating from EIGRP to OSPF

2000-09-26 Thread Cthulu, CCIE Candidate It's Not Dagon

Hey, Brian,

Thanks for the info. I have some comments/clarification.

EIGRP carries a lower administrative distance vs. EIGRP.
CR: You mean EIGRP (90) has a lower AD than OSPF (110)?

So you can
basically turn up OSPF on your routers, and then when it all looks kosher,
what I would do is raise the administrative distance of EIGRP above
OSPF..this will cause the EIGRP routes to phase out and OSPF to
be used. If it all goes crazyyou can revert by simply moving
EIGRP back to the default administrative distance. If you were to have
cleared out your EIGRP config..it would be difficult to put things
back..

CR: That is an excellent suggestion! It would be easy to write a script
that lower/raise as needed. Thank you!

Ok, why would a more specific route be inserted in OSPF vs. EIGRP? If you
deploy your OSPF to match that of your EIGRP, this should not
happen...its definitly avoidable.

CR: I was not clear on this. What I meant to say was that if EIGRP has a
more specific/longest match route than OSPF (or vice versa), that route will
be inserted in the routing table rather than the OSPF route. Recalling past
groupstudy discussions, a learned route gets inserted in the routing table
in order of preference of:

1. Most specific/longest match
2. administrative distance
3. cost (metrics)

I had a situation where a more specific EIGRP route stayed in the routing
table even though adjustments has been made to prefer OSPF. For example, if
you enter a network 1.1.1.1 0.0.0.0 area 0 command under OSPF, the mask that
gets advertised with this route by OSPF is whatever mask you have on the
interface. Another thing is that if you advertise loopback interfaces, OSPF
treats them as stub hosts (with a /32 mask); therfore, the route from OSPF
will be inserted in the routing table as it is more specific/longest match,
rather than the same route learned from EIGRP with its lower administrative
distance. These are the types of problems I want to minimize.

Many thanks, Brian, for the suggestions and feedback!

Charles

Using a config from Hutnick, I can't seem to get connectivity.

On page 287 for the cmd "sh atm vc", Status is shown as "ACTIVE".

I only see "UP". Also, I can't ping from one ATM router to the other.

On the LS-1010, I see "UpAndNormal" for the ILMI state and "Idle" for the

Sitting on any router, (telnet in) I cannot ping the ATM

Any thoughts? No special config here, bare bones just trying to get from

Something like this on each LS1010 interface that the routers are connected
to.
atm-pvc 44 102 interface atm 1/1/1 200

This is the same thing you did with the frame relay route command.

Just the one i.e. CID #640-025, try the Sybex Book by Robert Padjen ISBN

Exam is a pig!
You only get to be a CCDP 1.0 though which probably means you recertify in
two not three years.

From that mode (rommon), type

Hope it helps,

Sync serial modem

2000-09-26 Thread Jon McCoy

A few
months ago, I bought a synchronous serial modem from one of the list
members. A Penril Alliance v.32 box, with a normal-looking DB-25 RS-232
connector on the back, marked "DTE". The manual says the modem is
connected to the DTE device to the DTE connection.

I now
want to hook it up to one of my 2500s, and I need to know whether to get a DTE
(CAB-232MT) or DCE (CAB-232MC) cable. I am guessing that, since the router
is the DTE, and modems are usually DCE devices, that I need the "Router to RS232
DCE" cable. But I'd like a second opinion, hopefully from someone who
bought a modem like mine, and got it working in their lab.

Re: ATM Config

2000-09-26 Thread Kevin Wigle

Thanks for your post as well as others..

I have since got it working.

And it's hard to say why. I asked a co-worker who had used this lab before
to suggest things. We essentially wiped all the configs and started from
scratch.

It worked on the first attempt. (but I did that! - twice!!)

I was successful in getting vc's to work using the "old" way - using
map-list statements and the "new" way - using sub-interfaces.

I danced all around this and I'd swear that I had the same config at one
time or another - really, well - maybe not.

thanks to the list for suggestions.

How
many ls1010s are in the lab is irrelevant. They are not listed on the equipment
list for the lab so you will not be responsible for configuring them. Any
configuration required on the ls1010s will be performed by the proctor. To
answer your question though, I suspect it varies from location to location, some

RE: Exam for CCDP Cert

2000-09-26 Thread McMasters, Eric

At the tracking site they have two separate certs, CCDP 1.0 and 2.0. All of
the certs are good for 3 years before you have to recertify. That is at
least what the tracking site shows. My suggestion would be to take get the
CCNP 2.0 and then take the CID 3.0 (640-025), so you can be a CCDP 1.0 and
then when the replacement comes out for the CID exam take the new beta and
then you should be good to go on the CCDP 2.0 path...if you pass the beta.
That's what I'm planning on doing at least. Hope that helps.

Re: BSCN MANUAL at LAST!!!

2000-09-26 Thread Jim Erickson

Various aspects of BGP in particular. I don't have the Cisco URLs handy at
the moment, but they have been posted here in the past so check the
archives.

Also, since you are taking the class, be sure to quiz the instructor about
summarization and VLSM enough so you "get it" since the coverage in the
class text is limited (too few examples and review questions). If you're
already good at subnetting, summarization and VLSM will be pretty easy, but
if you just barely "get" subnetting in general, they may be tough (or, they
may help you get subnetting overall - who knows).

Lastly, as I said, everything you need for the test is in the class, but
extra info on EIGRP would be helpful, as would some extra practice with
route filtering.

This info is generally based on the things I saw classmates struggle with
during the class. I guess it depends on how easily the material comes to you
and whether you need extra reinforcement to solidify some of the concepts.
The thing I had the hardest time with was there were three main routing
protocols under discussion, each of which did things slightly differently -
I had a heck of a time keeping each of them straight in my head until I did
some further reading. For example, I don't know why, but it took me forever
to remember that OSPF used a wildcard mask in it network command, that BGP
used an optional 'mask' keyword, and that EIGRP used neither.

---JRE---
For extra credit, which protocol uses the command 'summary-address' and
which uses 'ip summary-address', and why would the 'ip' be important in the
second example and not the first?

RE: Exam for CCDP Cert

2000-09-26 Thread Jim Brown

There isn't a new test for CID. To obtain the CCNP 2.0 status you take the
640-025. I don't believe Cisco has even released a date for an updated CID.

CCNP 2.0 is comprised of 640-5XX and 640-025 exams. No updated CID exam
needed. Upon completion of the exam track you are a CCNP 2.0. No early
recertification required, do not pass go, do not collect $200, you are now a
CCNP 2.0.

The only exams that require upgrades are the 640-4XX exams in the CCDP
track. Check the certification page FAQ.

CCDP?

2000-09-26 Thread John Robert

Hi all,

I am currently CCNP and taking CCIE Written in two weeks. I want to know if
doing CCDP will help in my career? I saw outlines for two exams that I have
to take in order to become CCDP after my CCNP; CCDA and CID, outlines looks
pretty familiar. Any idea how hard these exams are? and if earning CCDP is
a good idea? How employers in usa are considering this certificate?

Thanks!

p.s. I am in USA. :)

RE: Exam for CCDP Cert

2000-09-26 Thread McMasters, Eric

Well I can tell you this. I am a CCNP 2.0 and I took the CID 3.0 (640-025)
and according to the Cisco tracking site I am a CCDP 1.0! I would put money
that when the 640-025 exam is retired that the exam that replaces it will be
for CCDP 2.0. Just like if you mix and match CCNP 1.0 and 2.0 exams, you
are still a CCNP 1.0 and not a 2.0

There isn't a new test for CID. To obtain the CCNP 2.0 status you take the
640-025. I don't believe Cisco has even released a date for an updated CID.

CCNP 2.0 is comprised of 640-5XX and 640-025 exams. No updated CID exam
needed. Upon completion of the exam track you are a CCNP 2.0. No early
recertification required, do not pass go, do not collect $200, you are now a
CCNP 2.0.

The only exams that require upgrades are the 640-4XX exams in the CCDP
track. Check the certification page FAQ.

I thought that Cisco is using the CID #640-025 for the 2.0 track. I read
somewhere on the site that it counts towards the 2.0 certification. It is
only slated for a future update, but for now.

The 2.0 path lists the 025 exam.

Just the one i.e. CID #640-025, try the Sybex Book by Robert Padjen ISBN
0782126391 which got a few good comments on the group, but apparently the
Exam is a pig!
You only get to be a CCDP 1.0 though which probably means you recertify in
two not three years.
