Merge ISDN 2000AF Software? [7:71731]
I have a used Merge ISDN 2000AF simulator I purchased for my lab and I am in desperate need of the software for it. Merge Tech support says that I need to re download the software to the simulator, because it is corrupt. Does anyone have the software they can share with me? RE: caller name ID/call manager [7:56218]
Yep this is a known issue with CCM. Why cisco chose to do this is anyones guess. All the telco's that we work with send Caller ID Name in the ISDN Facility IE. Per Cisco, this can be modified on a per trunk group basis on a DMS-100 switch. None of the Telcos' we use have a DMS-100 so we haven't been able to verify this. Cisco says they will modify CCM to send/receive caller id name in the ISDN Facilty IE, but they haven't committed to a timeframe or version. One of the telco's we use, came up with an alternate method to send a name for Calling Party Name on a per DID Block basis, but in order to do this our H323 Gateways need to use ISDN NI3, which the current Cisco IOS revisions do not support yet. Cisco gave no indication as to if/when they will support NI3. We lose more IP Telephony deals because of stupid features that everyone else's IP Telephony system or traditional key/pbx system has. tm Tim Medley, CCNP+Voice, CCDP, CWNA Sr. Network Architect VoIP Group iReadyWorld ph: 704.943.3615 -Original Message- From: Paul Beckman [mailto:pbeckman;DeltaHealthGroup.com] Sent: Thursday, October 24, 2002 11:40 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: caller name ID/call manager [7:56218] -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 We have been working with Cisco on a problem for about a year now and have determined that we can not get caller name id on our phone because Bellsouth is sending it in the facility ID field. OT: FS IBM SX GBIC's work fine with Cisco 3500 series switches [7:54929]
I have a bunch of IBM SX GBIC's for sale i anyone is interested for use in your labs. I have tested these in several 3500 XL series switches as well as in a 6500 and they work fine. Selling them for $25 each plus shipping. Simple inexpensive way to use Gig E in your home lab. I do not believe that these are on the approved Cisco third party GBIC list, so I wouldn't use them on a production network. I want to make sure I have the right cable before I start chasing other possibilities. Is this in fact the right cable? RE: CCIE written revised [7:53972]
So is that how people without experience do it? Just keep failing the ccie written exam until you've memorized all the questions or get lucky? You must be single, or rich, or both. My wife has a fit when I spent $125 on a exam I am well prepared for, let alone spend $300 on the written. And my employer reimburses for the exam. [7:46203] Brian, The easiest solution from understanding your problem is to order an additional Pri from your service provider and have them configure the trunks using NFAS (Non-facilities associated signaling) This will allow you to increase the B channel count by 24 and retain the same dial number for inbound calls. NFAS allows multiple Pri circuits to use a single D-channel to control signalling for all of the Pri's in the group. You gain the 24th B channel on the Pri since no D-channel is required. You will need an additional Pri ports on your HQ router because they are goingto hand you another physical circuit. The catch is that some service providers I've run into only allow a few Pri's in an NFAS configuration, even though a single D-channel has the capabiltity to signal for up to 28 T1's (or a DS-3). As for the single IP, it will stay on the serial0:23 (ex.) interface of your D-channel. Hope this helps. RE: CIPT and DQOS certs [7:38925]
Just to be clear, neither of these two tests are a cert. There is a new Cisco Qualified Specialist Cert, for IP Telephony Support. It requires CIPT, CVoice, and DQoS. It also requires a CCNP. In essence it is a replacement fot the CCNP Voice specialization. CIPT and CVoice were recently revised (again). I took the last version of the tests and am preparing to take the latest version since that is what is required for the IP Telephony Support cert. Cisco Press has released both the CIPT and the CVoice class notes in book format, Cisco IP Telephony, ISBN 1587050501 and Cisco Voice over Frame Relay, ATM, IP, ISBN 1578702275. I am using both of these book and hands on experience to go take the new versions of the exams. The DQoS test is a beast. One of the CCIE's I know who works quite a lot with Voice and QoS failed the first time. It's pretty intensive and covers a lot. RE: Grade to get CCDA [7:36636]
I have never been on a job interview where anyone asked to see my cisco certification certificate or asked my score on an exam. I have been asked my testing ID to verify that I did indeed have the cert I claimed (crazy interview, guy had just interviewed a guy who said he was a CCIE, turns out he wasn't). On interviews I've been asked what certification I currently hold, them based on my certs I've been asked related questions to see what I really know or don't know. When we interview someone for a job at work, we ask the person what their technical strengths are and ask detailed technical questions; if a person says they know something, we're going to dig until we determine if the person really knows what their talking about or if they're full of @!#$. Our approach is similar but not as brutal as the way Cisco interviews; When I was on a telephone interview with Cisco and the interviewer says, so it says on your resume, you know something about Ethernet... tell me everything you know about Ethernet. When I was done he started drilling into me about Ethernet; I thought the CIA was questioning me. The guy repeated this with every keyword and buzzword I had on my resume. Then he drilled me for details on specific projects and accomplishments that I had listed on my resume; asking about how i've designed a network, equipment I've used and why. If on average, you know 65% of the material then you will probably also pass, as you have to get 755/1000 and you start with 300 (or do you). Simulating an ISDN Switch using an NM-HDV w/ an MFT [7:36527]

RE: VOIP Certification [7:35879]
Kelly, The CCNP Voice specialization was retired late last year. It was replaced by the IP Telephony Support Specialist certification. http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/10/wwtraining/certprog/cqs/iptel/ Anyway, I have taken the CIPT and CVoice exams. I mostly used the last 3 years of Cisco IPT experience, but I did use the Cisco Press, Voice over IP Fundamentals for the CVoice exam. There are a couple of other Cisco Press books that were not available when I took the exams, but I would highly recommend them. Cisco CallManager Fundamentals, Cisco IP Telephony (CIPT course book), Cisco Voice over Frame Relay, ATM, and IP (CVoice course book) and Integrating Voice and Data networks. All are Cisco Press books. Another good resource is CCO. Both tests were fair, the exam outline says it all. Lots of product knowledge, product selection, CallManager Administration and features, aand little QoS, were on the CIPT exam. The CVoice exam covered lots of product knowledge, gateway selection, dial plans, call routing, gateway configuration, some QoS, Cat 6509 configuration for voice and QoS, and some basic atm and frame-relay knowledge. I have not taken the DQoS exam yet. I am planning on taking the exam in the next couple of weeks. I am using the Cisco Press IP QoS book as well as some of the above CIPT and CVoice books to prepare. Hope this helps. BSCI Beta [7:14219]
I took the BSCI beta test today, it wasn't as bad as I imagined it. 146 questions, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, and the dreaded IS-IS, as well as EIGRP and RIP redistribution into OSPF. There were approximately 15 questions on IS-IS; I know I had at least 15 questions wrong. Wasn't too bad for a beta test, very few spelling/grammar errors, and really only one question that didn't make sense, I think there was a sentence missing. You had 3 hours to take the test, I only used about half of that. I'm pretty sure I passed, I'll know for sure in a couple of months. I found the questions on EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP to be better thought out and more diverse than the BSCN exam, albeit there were twice the questions. Personally, I'm a much better developer than I am a support person. There's overlap between the skills of product/protocol design and large network design, but much less with troubleshooting. Even quality testing is a somewhat different skill set than troubleshooting. For example, has anyone seen a Cisco exam that explored the differences among conformance, interoperability, and performance testing? The difference between a correct but boundary condition event, a syntactically incorrect event, and an inopportune event? They are looking for software engineers. AGS+ crossed over to 2610, Serial cable length issue? [7:10810]
I've finally decided to sit down and try to troubleshoot what I thought was a faulty serial port on my AGS+. I have a 2610 with a WIC-2T connected to my AGS+ via a CAB-SS-V35MT and a CAB-VCF. The CAB-VCF is from pacific cables and is a 26pin DCE to a V.35 winchester cable. The CAB-VCF is 6 feet long and the CAB-SS-V35MT is 10 feet long; so I have a 16 foot crosover cable. When I cable the two routers together and just configure a simple point to point connection, with the following config: AGS+ int s2 ip address 100.100.100.1 255.255.255.252 encap ppp no shut 2610 int s0/0 ip address 100.100.100.2 255.255.255.252 encap ppp no shut The serial interfacces come up/up but then after a second or two line protocol goes down on both sides and they become up/down. I thought the AGS+'s serial interface was bad (I had a bad applique a while back). So I moved to a different interface on the AGS+, same situation. I then decided to try a different router, I replaced the AGS+ with a CGS, and I got the same results. I now think the issue is with the cable. a) I could have a bad cable. b) the cable I have could be two long. I have replaced the CAB-SS-V35MT, with no luck. What kind of issues would I see if the cable was too long? Would I see the issue I am experiencing? If 1 router died, I'd like to keep the internet connection alive without changing any of the clients default gateways. I figured HSRP would be good to apply here becuase it acts as 1 virtual router. If so isn't it a waste not ever utilizing the T1 line thats on standby (of course until the active fails)? If bandwidth exceeded 1.5MB would the second router kick in to share the load or would it totally take over? With these 2 routers acting as a single virtual router would throughput ever be able to exceed 1.54 MB assuming each has its own T1 connection? thanks Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7i=10478t=10428 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Now a CCNP [7:9560]
It's been a busy week, but I finally broke down and took my routing exam last week passed with a 800 (I really need to work on my BGP Skills (or lack there of). Thanks to everyone who contributes on the list for their support and expert guidance. A colleague asked me today which was the hardest exam. It was actually a difficult question to answer. I took the ccnp exams in this order: Remote Access, Switching, Support, Routing. Each test was equally as difficult based on my networking experience and what I work with on a day to day basis. At work I deal with alot of switching, simple point-to-point leased lines, ISDN and basic OSPF, and alot of troubleshooting. There were areas of each test that were difficult for me since I don't deal with those technologies on a day to day basis. I used a variety of books to prepare for the different exams, some of the sybex ccnp books, cisco press books, and hands on work on the job and in my home lab. thanks, tim medley Tim Medley - CCNP+Voice Network Architect VoIP Group iReadyWorld 704-943-3615 - Phone 704-943-3660 - Fax 877-6-iReady - Helpdesk Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7i=9560t=9560 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

You could use a 12sp+ or a VIP30. These are a couple of the origional Cisco IP Phones that Cisco aquired from Selsius. You would still need a Call Manager to actually use the Ip Phones. They cannot just talk to each other. You're best bet for the CIPT and CVoice tests are to take the actual cisco courses. In my experience both the CVoice and CIPT exams really actual hands on experience. You could get away with studying the Course notes and CCO. Cisco Press just released a hardbound edition of the CVoice class material and there is a similar book being released in August for the CIPT. http://www.ciscopress.com If your interested I may still have a couple of Cisco 12sp+ IP Phones collecting dust that i'd sell off. RE: telephony problem w/7750 and 7910s [7:7788]
There are two types of conferences with Call Manager 3.x, both need to be configured in the Call Managerm under Services --- Conference Bridge 1) Ad Hoc conference - where you have an existing call and you want to conference another person or persons into the call. A) While you have an active call press the CONF soft key, this will place the firstcall on hold and give you a dial tone to dial the person you want to conference in. Once the person is on the line, press the CONF soft key to join both calls together.Repat process to add more indiviuals. 1) Meet-Me Conference - where people call into a conference bridge that has been set up before hand. B) In order to use a meet me conference someone must establish the meet me conference. To establish the Meet Me conference, pickup the handset on your IP Phone and press the MeetMe soft key, now dial in the number configured for MeetMe conferenceing. No people can call into the conference bridge number and be connected to the conference. You will here a short beep on the line when someone joins into the conference. Man Chuck, I didn't know you were that old? Chuck's response actually brought up something interesting. How many current CCIE's could just walk in and pass the lab again? I know several CCIE's that could walk in off the street and pass the CCIE lab without a problem, but I also know a couple of CCIE's that would take another 3 or 4 attempt and months of study to pass again. What if cisco upped the ante and made a mandatory recert every 3 years by re-taking the lab exam? RE: 2610 w/ an additional 1e 2w module [7:3402]
the NM-1e2w is not supported on the 2600's. Some people seem to get ot to work under different ios's with varying results. Cisco doesn't support it, if you manage to get it to work i'd suggest not using it in a production environment. For more info, search the archives, this topic is discussed quite often. tim I hear and I forget I see and I believe I do and I understand -Confucius Tim Medley - CCNA, CCDA VoIP Engineer 704-943-3615 - Phone 704-525-9119 - Fax 877-6-iReady - Helpdesk -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Sunday, May 06, 2001 11:18 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: 2610 w/ an additional 1e 2w module [7:3402] Hi all !!
