Michael, using LMS 7.8.0 - 1379434453 @ Wed Sep 18, Local Artwork now
displays in the web UI. Well done and thank you.

My last suggestion is that the plugin be included in Recommended 3rd
party plugins rather than buried in the Other 3rd party plugins .

Michael Herger has enhanced his new plugin -

Works using the web UI and Squeeze Commander on Android, but needs the
LMS 7.8 dated Sept 18 or later.

2013-09-17 Thread Wirrunna

Version: 7.8.0 - 1379350096 @ Tue Sep 17 - Win 7
GUI - Local Artwork lists the jpg's the same size as the album covers in
the browse by albums. After clicking on an album it is displayed at
default thumbnail size, again just like the browse by album function.
However, unlike the browse by album, clicking on the image does not
display it full size. Suggestion - display image full size when selected
from the list.

Orange Squeeze - Local Artwork lists the jpg's but after selection (tap)
only a stylized CD icon is displayed.

How would you call such a menu entry ? I would suggest a simple Local
Artwork (to distinguish it from Artist Information which goes to the
web), when clicked it would list all .JPG files in the directory with
the currently playing track and after an image has been selected show a
simple next image and eXit buttons, allowing the user to loop
through the images by clicking until the eXit is clicked.

extGUI4LMS, after right clicking on the track artwork, returns Images
and a list of image names allowing you to click to display the image.
Then after displaying the selected image there are left arrow, right
arrow and x to allow moving through the images.

In Orange Squeeze it is called Show Artwork, which currently only
shows cover.jpg .
I asked Ben if OrangeSqueeze could show other artwork and he replied
something like not without some server side code .

I'm sure Pippin would exploit this feature for iPeng !

Home Song Info (Like the Rain) Local Artwork displays the cover and
an icon with the name of each of the jpg files, but clicking on the icon
only displays a bigger version of the icon.
OrangeSqueeze also lists the jpg's available with a little icon.

there won't be any such fancy thing as an automatic slideshow. Just
another menu with access to whatever image file (gif, jpg, png) the
server finds in the track's folder
The way you have implemented this is excellent, couldn't ask for
anything more.

I'll report back when a later than Sept 15 LMS is available and the
images display. Meanwhile I've got a lot more scanning of CD booklets to
do.

They show when you tap the Local Artwork Folder icon (which is located
between Artist Information and Album Information), so it is your

The artwork is going to be available on tablets without anything else
being done, same as the Artist Album info. The work is being done by

1. Changed Settings\Interface\Thumbnail Size to 200,
2. Stopped LMS,
3. Deleted artwork.db which was at 698227KB and library.db,
4 Started LMS which kicked off a scan,
5. when the scan finished artwork.db was 874,552KB

I had expected that artwork.db would be less than the size immediately
before the scan.
Also, where are the increased sized thumbnails displayed ?
The pop-up help says that the thumbnails are used when browsing by
artwork - when and where can you browse by artwork in the standard gui
?

 the SqueezeJS.SonginfoParser.coverartUrl part specifically).
The issue that not perfectly square covers are cached as pngs, even if
the source is jpg (only for _m and _p image specs, see below), is
 unrelated to this.

Additionally, extGUI ships with it's own modified version of this
framework, so it won't be by this change (something similar was already
applied in my dev version when I reported the issue, but there has been
 no new release since then)

As Michael already mentioned, thumbnail specs include aspect ratio. The
LMS web UI uses 200x200_o (o=original=only width adjusted) if you set
the size in the preferences to 200px, my plugin registers 200x200_m
(m=resize using height and width), so you end up with two 200px images
 cached, doubling the storage size.

Anyway, I've already added a preference for the pre-caching (which will
default to false until the second issue is addressed - either in LMS as
 proposed 'here'
or by changing my GUI to use _o resizing, which isn't affected by it),
so in the next version, you can decide yourself if you want it or not.

OK, I understand better now. Looking forward to the next version.

For experimentation I set Settings\Interface\Thumbnail Size to 50 and
rescanned, result is that browsing by large album cover showed the cover
the same size as the small small album cover.
Artwork.db 541,892KB with Thumbnail size at 50

The only other plugin that I run that has an artwork variable is
Spicefly SugarCube where I have set Album Art Size to 150.

Is there a way of displaying what album art sizes are cached? (The only
entry in Settings\Advanced\Performance is 200x200_m extGUI4LMS)

the RAMdisk allocated to CACHE
(http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?93854-Improving-performance-for-quot-New-Music-quot-function/page14)
so I un-installed extGUI4LMS, deleted artwork.db and library.db and did
a clear rescan.

After reading
https://github.com/Logitech/slimserver/commit/3acdf53e46f6c01d97087690c025f62265d19166
I waited until some comment appeared but when no-one posted anything I
downloaded and installed 7.8.0 - 1371658931 @ Thu Jun 20 on my test box,
started LMS and installed the extGUI4LMS plugin.
Accessing the extGUI4LMS kicked off an Artwork scan that took 10 minutes
for 10,006 covers and blew Artwork.db to 644,720KB from 241,088KB. After
a day of use artwork.db has grown to 685,878KB.

It appears that the change to stick with jpg has curbed the excessive
growth of the artwork.db .

If I change Settings\Interface\Thumbnail Size to 200, will that :
1. reduce the artwork.db size ? (as the 100 size artwork will not be
needed)
2. adversely affect the gui as artwork will now be bigger ?

Can't say I notice any increase in speed of the initial display of the

However three quarters of a gig of artwork is a bit over the top. From
the thread linked in your post I gather that artwork for every track is
stored in a table - has Data Normalization become a thing of the past

The GUI still says that I have duplicate files on the server, but I
assure you that I haven't. Only one copy of of a cover or a booklet.

After thinking about this, how about if a user clicks on the album cover
image in the Currently Playing section of the screen, then the program
invoke the getImagesForTrack routine - that way if there is only a
cover then the full size cover is displayed, but if there are more
images then they can be displayed using the arrow keys.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Alternative Web Interface (beta)

2013-04-06 Thread Wirrunna

Rolly, still the new versions keep coming.
I've been using the function to display other jpg files and have have a
couple of comments -
1. There is an icon that when clicked resize image to window size, I
suggest that the resized image be the default display and the icon
display image at original size.
2. If there is more than one image, e.g. a booklet painstakingly
scanned, the user has to close the first image displayed, right click on
the postage stamp sized cover art and select the next image to display.
Could a simple arrows be added up near the resize icon if there is more
than one image ? e.g. Next Image, Last image kind of thing.
3. In the Currently Playing section, could an indicator be added to
indicate the presence of extra images - then maybe if the album cover
image is clicked display the cover image at window size complete with
the arrows mentioned in #2.
4. Cosmetic problem on my display, the little window that pops up after
right clicking the small image has the list of images repeated.
(Chrome)

You appear to be putting a lot of effort into Discogs data retrieval -
what data do you send Discogs to identify the currently playing track -
in my limited testing I appear to get nothing back, what should I expect
? ... there is not much in the Help -
Discogs integration
Album information provided by Discogs can be displayed. This may not
reflect exactly the album in the local library, as there is no way to
find out which exact version it is (normal vs. extended, various formats
etc.).
Note that Discogs limits accesses via the public API (see here for
details). This is especially relevant for full-sized images, so expect
delays (and even timeouts) when using the Save to server function.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Other Album images - back, booklets etc. - Any way of displaying these ?

2013-04-03 Thread Wirrunna

slackhead and ralphpnj, thank you for the Muso suggestion. I have
watched the evolution of this impressive software for a while now and
tried it once or twice, however it does not suit the way I control LMS.
In my house LMS runs on a low power PC under the TV, the PC also
providing TV recording, video and DVD playback. LMS plays music
exclusively from its local library and uses SugarCube to continue
playing after starting with either an album or track.
LMS is started by Orange Squeeze on a Nexus or the LMS gui on my laptop
in the study. I normally leave a window open on the SugarCube Live View
so that little tweaks can be made to the playlist - usually adding
tracks suggested by MIP that SugarCube has not queued up.
The original reason for my first post in this thread was to identify a
plugin that displayed the extra scanned images and then to suggest to
the tablet developers that they should leverage the work done to display
the images on their tablet applications.

That's a rather neat idea. I've implemented it in the GUI I'm writing
 (see 'here'
It's pretty simple: if you right click on the cover of a track in the
current playlist, you'll get a menu showing all images (jpg, png) located
in the same directory as the track. Clicking on a menu entry will
 display the picture:
 14577
so you can just put any image there, name it appropriately (back.png,
booklet.png) and they will be available in the menu (as back and
 booklet in this example)

This works.

In fact it is excellent.

I didn't try this when Rolly first posted as the extGUI4LMS would hang
my low power server at that stage of its development - but now that
extGUI4LMS is rather slick and loads a bit of data, displays and then
loads more data while you cogitate what is displayed, I gave it a go and
am most impressed!

Interesting choice for the example

You can create a MusicIP Mix in the Squeezebox - in the GUI, select an
album, click to show the tracks, and mouse over the track you want as
the seed - you should see 4 icons, click on the M (More info) icon,
and at the bottom of the list should be Create MusicIP Mix , click on
that and a MusicIP mix will be created. Mouse over the All Songs and 2
icons should appear that will let you play the mix or add it to the
current playlist.
You can also use the remote and your player to accomplish the same
action, but I suggest that you start with the GUI first.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2012-05-26 Thread Wirrunna

I have used Server Power Control for years to shut my Squeezebox server
down, more recently using the excellent End of Day functions.
I also use a custom command to increase the data base cache size
(cli//PRAGMA%20cache_size%20%3D%2025) that appears to speed up
various browsing functions. The only drawback with this command is that
it is manual - I have to remember to execute it as my server wakes up
automatically each morning.
Is there a way of executing a command when the server starts up, in
other words a Start of Day function ?

At End of Day I shut down the server rather than hibernate as the server
is also used as a TV recorder and the program guide is updated as part
of the start up process.

Does the server log show the message ? The default log level for InguzEQ

Anyway, here's an idea. All you really need is to have the fingerprint
and analysis data stored in tags in the files, and you only have to do
it once, and the fingerprinting/analysis should be independent of the
file encoding. So you might try converting to FLAC, running the
analysis using Win7, store the analyses in tags, then convert back to
ALAC. A bit of a pain, but I don't see why this wouldn't work. You'd
need a converter program that preserves tags, but I shouldn't think
that would be a problem. The dbPoweramp converter is fast and preserves
tags well. At least, the one big file conversion job I did using that
program preserved all the tags without a hitch.

Excellent idea, should work fine.

Q7 - Sugarcube may be picking 'random tracks' if MIP isn't complete, see
the Sugarcube Live View in the Squeezebox Server GUI.
Q8 - The lock up when Sugarcube mixes has been discussed in the
Sugarcube forums, go to Spicefly.com and login - you should have been
given a username and password after you donated - it is as you say,
dependent on the size of the mix, I have it set to 8.
Q9 - Depends on your how tight your selection parameters are set.
Again, the LiveView lets you monitor the tracks returned by MIP and
what was selected and what was blocked.
Q10 - I use Win XP, but a quick search brought up
http://www.havetheknowhow.com/Install-the-software/Install-MusicIP.html
that may help. GENPUID problems discussed here
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91499 and
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84338.
Q11 - I use the GUI, can't help you with headless.
Q12 - If the MIP analysis is archived in the tags, then moving the
tracks is no big deal as MIP will just read the analysis from the tag,
if analysis is not archived then analysis must be performed again -

Takes a while to get what the live view is doing this is day 2 as a
 mip/sugarcube user

As I understand it, Random means that Sugarcube picked a track of the
same genre as MIP did not return a track.

In MIP terms a Mixable Track is one that has been analyzed even if the
Analysis tags have not been saved to the file.

Live View shows the tracks returned by MIP to the 'seed track' and will
show why a track has been blocked. This allows good feedback to the
setting of the selection variables in Sugarcube.

It shouldn't impact the quality of the mix. Sugarcube usually picks the
first track returned that isn't blocked (this is configurable - tick the
Sugarcube Wobble box). However, if you restrict the mix too much it may
reject all and have to fall back to random.

I was ripping some cds this weekend and the MIP servers were sort of

In the MIP gui on your virtual XP box, if you select some tracks and

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Help getting Lazy Search to work on Touch

2011-07-20 Thread Wirrunna

erland;641536 Wrote:
Would the people requesting Lazy Search really want it on the Touch
touch interface or are we talking about getting access to it when using
a IR remote or Controller when controlling the Touch ?

To me it feels important to have support for it when using a IR remote
and it would be nice to have something better when using a Controller
but on the touch screen it feels less important since you have access
to a full virtual keyboard. But maybe I'm missing something ?

Erland, There are two features of Lazy Search that make it the superior
search tool -
1. The lazy remote user logic that allows the user to press a key
once rather than up to 4 times,
2. The search logic that first determines if the search is for Artist,
Album or Song, then the logic that displays the matches after 3
keystrokes while allowing the user to refine the search and so reduce
the number of matches by adding keystrokes until the matches are at a
scrollable number.

The Touch search does not start searching until the 'done' key is
pressed, then asks My Music or Internet Radio, then Artist, Album etc,
then displays the list and it is only at this time that the user may
realise that the search needs to be refined and the whole process
started again after a bunch of back keystrokes.

I think a version of Lazy Search for the touch only using the Touch
remote would be the way to go as trying to combine the touch keyboard
and search results would be clunky.

A version for the web gui, based on the Lazy Search search logic would
also be good.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicIP and Reject Size

I'm pretty sure the reject size is the number of tracks before an artist
can reappear in the mix.
Have you tried Spicefly SugarCube yet? http://www.spicefly.com/
Spicefly SugarCube is a plugin written to achieve my desire for
Squeezebox and MusicIP to work between themselves and play music,
nonstop with no hassle and no annoying playlists! SugarCube uses the
great MusicIP product but has a number of custom written functions to
take it to the next level, allowing you to drift through your music
library and discover those great tracks you forgot you had, offering
far greater functionality than the official Squeezebox MusicIP
plugin.

The Spicefly site also has a lot of MusicIP documentation.

On the SpiceFly site somewhere it says -Its recommended to set MIP to
“archive analysis” this places the fingerprint in the music file, just
like a mp3 id tag-. I don't see a setting in MIP for archive
 analysis?

Does MIP add new tags to my music files to store info? Or does it
update existing tags? I don't want it to change any of the existing
tags that I have so painstakingly set up. I don't mind GENRE being
changed since I have not put much effort into that, but definitely
leave my ARTIST, ALBUM, TITLE, etc tags alone. What does the Fix Tags
button do? I am very afraid to press it.

In the MIP gui, click on the red spanner icon to bring up the
Preferences box, then General, then tick the box next to 'Archive
analysis when tracks are analyzed'. Then when a track is analyzed, two
new tags are added but no existing tags are altered.
In Squeezebox Server, Server Settings / Plugins / set 'Only read
Mixable Status', then I keep it simple - Player Settings for each mix
to No, Mix Size to Number of Tracks to 75, Style 150, Variety 3, Mix
Genre to No, Reject 2 tracks, and important Reload interval 0, stops it
automatically scanning.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicIP: newbie questions

2010-12-11 Thread Wirrunna

Henry, If the 'M' shows in the gui as detailed in my previous post, then
when the MIP mix preferences are set, you can make a mix from the
Touch.

On the Touch, select New Music, Select an album and all the tracks
displayed. (I have only just got a Touch and have only tried this from
New Music, but it should work from any track or album selected by
search or browse).

Long touch on a track brings up a display that shows details of the
track and the last item in the display is Create MusicIP Mix. Tap
that and a mix will be created and a new menu appears headed MusicIP
Mix, first item Play Mix and then all the tracks in the mix are
listed.

Tap the 'Play Mix' and away it will go.
