Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread
OK, here's what you should do: 1. When you first start iPeng your server has to be up and running and you should have your Squeezebox connected to it. iPeng should the see the server and the player. 2. If you want to use Wake-On-LAN to wake up the server, go to the screen on your screen shot and press the blue on your server. Here you can enable WOL and enter the MAC if it's not already detected correctly. NOTE: You have to leave that screen before quitting the App for your changes to be saved. 3. If you use MySqueezebox.com, select that Music Source, too, on this screen so that iPeng can get registered (you have to do this for each iThingy) and see your players on MySB in the future. In the future, when your start iPeng it should wake up your server. But it can indeed take several seconds until your server is up and running and especially until your Squeezebox is connected to the server (it will disconnect when the server is off and also has to find the source first). I'm a bit surprised that your iPhone 3G is slower than the iPod, as of my experience iPhone 3G is usually the slowest device around (it's as fast as an older iTouch but does a lot more in the background). However, WiFi can take a few seconds to come up on the newest generation of the iTouch. -- pippin --- see iPeng, the Squeezebox iPhone remote, at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51929 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread
Ok, my tries: 1. Could it be the Touch is connected to something else, e.g. MySqueezebox.com? Have you ever connected iPeng to MySqueezebox.com? You need to do that at least once to be able to see players on MySB, it needs to be registered for your account and unless the Squeezebox doesn't enforce this (you don't need it if you never use MySB). 2. Are you on iOS4 so that iPeng's been running for a while? If your PC uses DHCP it could have shown up under different IP addresses. iPeng isn't always good at resolving this and it never ever forgets a server unless it's restarted. Try to close it from the task bar and re-open it. Second thought would be: Did you configure your PC manually? There migh be a manual and an automatic instance in there. If no you STILL see your PC twice then I'd guess you actually have two instances of Squeezebox Server running. 3. No idea. I did wait until that song is finished while the server already shut down, the pointer go back to the beginning of the song and stay there. The screen won't go to sleep mode nor stop mode (I got different screen saver for each mode so I know), it just stay there, with the album art and the details of the song. Any hint? Ok. That's what happens if I shut down my server, too. Did you configure SvrPowerControl to do something different? Sorry to be dense but I don't use that plugin (can't get it to work) and so I don't exactly understand what you expect to happen. iPeng doesn't do anything but send a command to the server. That command is already being created by the plugin. But more importantly: from what I see the command is successful (the server shuts down), the difference seems to be in the behavior of the plugin itself. The only way iPeng could affect this is by changing any parameters etc. But I don't think I made changed to the parameter handling in 1.2.7. Looks like my provider rebooted the server without letting me know. When I click on this, it plays the album in the album order, not shuffled What happens if you tap the first track? Did you read Help-Quick Tutorials-Albums/Playlists in the App? (It's the popup that comes up automatically when you open an album the first time). This works like on the iPod app, you have to simply tap the track to use. Shuffling generally doesn't work on Rhapsody, it's not an iPeng issue but a MySqueezebox.com issue b) Once a Rhapsody album is playing, it appears to be impossible to add other Rhapsody songs or albums to the current play list No, THAT works, at least for me. Again, have you read the tutorial I mentioned above? c) When a Rhapsody album is playing and I try to play one of the pre-configured Rhapsody play lists, they don't play at all. Instead the album I was already listening to continues to play. This works for me, albeit the menu is a bit weired, you have to select play playlist(1) in Play mode... Again, have a look at that tutorial. 3) there are some minor problems with the Slacker intgeration a) it does not appear to be the case that you can heart or thumbs down Slacker songs even though one can with the web user interface. Of course you can. It's on the NowPlaying overlay that you get when tapping the big cover. It's like on the Web interface, the icons replace the shuffle and repeat icons which in turn are placed where they are on the iPod app... You can also use the context menu (hold the big cover art). There's also a tutorial about context menus in Help in the app, that one did also show up automatically. iPeng is a promising app - but nearly all of my listening is on Rhapsody and Slacker. Thus, these problems render the app not very useful to me. And it is frustrating that there is no obvious support web site. Free is free, but if I'm paying 10x as much as the average app store app, I expect commercial quality software that works as advertised. I am curious if any of these things will be fixed...thanks. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Sonos iPad app (free)
Maybe I should elaborate. I'm serious about this. I also don't say iPeng is better. The two apps are different in some respects and to a certain degree they reflect the different systems they are made for. The Sonos app may be a bit more simple to understand in the first place and multiple-player handling may still have an edge but there are also aspects where it completely sucks such as playlist building and digging through your library (you have to re-start again each time you need to go to NowPlaying). It also has a very deep menu structure. Graphics is also not really a strong point of the Sonos app, the covers you gat are tiny. I'm particularly disappointed about the iPad version, they make very bad use of the screen space, IMHO, but that may be a personal taste thing, I think similarly about SqueezePad in that respect. -- pippin --- see iPeng, the Squeezebox iPhone remote, at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82313 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

If you want to use another app for playback on the iPod (you currently can't do that with iPeng although it's planned) you can't keep that one running in the background, too. I can't really tell you what future limitations, this will mainly depend on how Apple supports these devices. Right now, iPeng requires iOS 3.0 (the iPod software version) but will eventually move to 4.x. The 2G iPod also supports 4.0 so for now you are pretty safe but I would not bet on Apple still supporting it with a 5.0 next year. So I believe you are safe to still get updates for about a year with the older device. iPeng is a bit faster on the new device, too (3s startup time as compared to 5-6s on the older device), scrolling is faster and smoother, too, abut the actual operation should not differ too much, that depends more on the server. 4G has a higher resolution screen. You have to learn Objective-C and you need to learn Apple's software architecture. When you've done so it's pretty simple because the API is very powerful. Could you file a ticket for this? 7.4 is fine (although I believe 7.5 works more stable in general) I even recently re-added the workaround for playing radio items with incomplete context menus that is needed pre-7.5.1. I will not test against 7.3.x anymore, this is especially true for iPeng for iPad. I have at least one beta tester who still uses 7.3.3 and he generally provides good feedback so I believe it runs but I am pretty sure at least the Apps/Music Services will work less well with 7.3.3. -- pippin --- see iPeng, the Squeezebox iPhone remote, at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51929 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

In this case, iPeng needs that headline item for the option to play all tracks and can't display the play shuffled item. Finally, when in Playing mode, clicking on the random button beside the track position doesn't do anything... no change to the order or what track is played next. That isn't supposed to do anything. This is because too many people are having trouble with accidentally deleting a playlist. Instead, iPeng opens a context menu which, for playable items like this one, is expected to include Play, Add, Add Next items. However, for RadioTime items - and only these - it doesn't. What iPeng did in the past is that it added the items manually. However, I removed this someone earlier this year because the underlying bug was reported as fixed and for most menus it actually is. For RadioTime only in 7.5.1. It turned out, this is not true in all cases which is why I'll add that back in the next release. The reason for removing the manually added items is that there is a theoretical risk that this leads to duplicate items. -- pippin --- see iPeng, the Squeezebox iPhone remote, at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51929 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
