Re: [Talk-hr] Po?tanski brojevi
Budem javljao napredak. What would strip=yes stand for? I think it might be interesting to indicate whether there is a bay where the bus can get out of the way of other traffic. Now I indicate that by drawing public_transport=platform/highway=platform around it, where applicable. Or it can be inferred from a separately drawn cycleway. Another thing which might be interesting, is to indicate what was used for the positioning of the node. - Actual survey of the position of the pole - The B of the word B U S from aerial imagery (in France they have /\/\/\/\ instead) - A corner of the separately drawn (from imagery) amenity=shelter/shelter:type=public_transport For the bench, I'd simply add a node with amenity=bench nowadays. Re: [OSM-talk-be] hoe map ik een bus halte ? :-) / how to map a bus stop ? :-)
Are you mapping for the renderer or are you mapping to describe the route the bus follows? If you are mapping for the renderer it would seem to suffice to create separate routes for the 'extensions', but sometimes they are not extensions, but completely alternative routes. So the only way that makes sense is to map a route from starting point to end point in such a way that all stops for that variation of the route are served. I had corrected this in the one route you attempted to map. Why didn't you look at the many, many routes I had already mapped in Flanders? Once the stops are mapped (performing actual conflation and checking they are properly positioned, thank you very much), I can provide you with skeleton relations containing all the stops served by each variation for a given route (a given sequence of stops, really). To limit the amount of variations somewhat, the shorter variants of telescopic lines are not in there. Re: [OSM-talk-be] hoe map ik een bus halte ? :-) / how to map a bus stop ? :-)
Just to make it clear: the picture is not about tagging bus lines, it's about tagging bus stops. You refer to a page on the routes. Furthermore. it was not a question, I just found it a nice summary for what's in the wiki (probably somewhere under the public transport pages). Hence the smiley in the subject :-) There were a couple of tags that I had not heard of before (strip and the ones related to the time table and other information in the shelter). I doubt this information can be found in the Belgian (part of the) wiki. This does not always follows the evolution of the other communities. regards m On Thu, Aug 21, 2014 at 6:42 AM, André Pirard a.pirard.pa...@gmail.com wrote: On 2014-08-20 07:40, Marc Gemis wrote : https://twitter.com/JLZIMMERMANN/status/501356038499868672/photo/1 The answers to those questions about our conventions should be found here, Marc WikiProject Belgium/Conventions/Bus and tram lines (tagging) https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/WikiProject_Belgium/Conventions/Bus_and_tram_lines#Tagging so that anybody can tag without asking the same questions and getting the same or different answers over and over again. [OSM-legal-talk] OpenStreetMap Geocoded Replication Data and Licensing
I have a question regarding a research project I and my colleague are working on at Oklahoma State University. We are working with a dataset of terrorist events that contains location data such as city name, administrative/state name, country name. We are planning on geocoding the dataset with the MapQuest Open Geocoding API Web Service, which uses the OpenStreetMap data. The Global Terrorism Database (http://www.start.umd.edu/gtd/) we are using contains approximately 70,000 events (although many are duplicates in terms of location) that will be geocoded (i.e. associated with latitude, longitude, etc. from the OpenStreetMap data). My question pertains to the license we are allowed to use when distributing our replication data, which would contain within it some data drawn from the OpenStreetMap data (i.e. latitude and longitude). As this is an academic project we hope to publish, we want to make our data available to others for easy analysis and replication, etc. Do we have the ability to assign our own license to this replication data, or will we have to release the replication data under the ODC Open Database License? Also, is there anything else that you would like researchers to do when publishing work using the OpenStreetMap data, such as using a particular citation, notifying the OpenStreetMap Foundation when a work is published that used OpenStreetMap data, etc.? Peter - Do we have the ability to assign our own license to this replication data, or will we have to release the replication data under the ODC Open Database License? My read is yes, you have the ability to assign your own license to the dataset you're creating. Note you'll have to attribute OpenStreetMap. Background of this interpretation is here: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Open_Data_License/Geocoding_-_Guideline (Note this document is a draft but not an officially sanctioned guideline, in recent discussions there were diverging opinions). Re: [OSM-talk] online survey about the OSM community
It is a genuine survey, just those middle questions did not prompt any sensible answers which is why I gave up :) It sounds silly but how does one tell if it is a genuine academic survey or not? I'd like to see an https link to a known trusted web site and not just the OSM wiki. Has the survey been commissioned by a market research company even though its been run by a University, are they collecting IP addresses? We need some type of process to validate survey requests, it isn't just red tape if people feel they can trust the survey they will be more inclined to fill it in. The $100 gift card is fine but do you want people who map or who fill in surveys for a chance of a $100 gift card, and in these days of social media it can take minutes for someone to spread on an offer like this. Re: [OSM-talk] online survey about the OSM community
Hi there, There is the name of Prof. Claudiu Dimofte, and the given mail address matches with his own page on the university website [1]. The subdomain [2] of the given URL seems be owned by the same university, and the main domain [3] is a Online Survey service website. I don't think it's a kind of phishing attempt, and you can easily contact the professor to enquire about the authenticity of this survey. Nevertheless, I'm really surprised about the gift card, I am not familiar with this kind of operation on a university context. (Sorry for my uncertain english...) Mildly off topic, I read this article yesterday http://www.theverge.com/2014/8/19/6044403/derp-research-partnership-launched-by-reddit-twitch-imgur-fark-stack-exchange They aim giving transparency to the research into their online communities as far as I can understand. This is slightly off topic: but there is no evidence at all that imports make things better. What is true is that coverage initially (after the import) tends to be good, it then typically rapidly decays because there are no mappers to actually maintain the data (and that has shown itself many times from a small to a large scale). While it might be tedious, actually doing the work is the thing that builds strong communities. The above doesn't mean that you shouldn't do the import(s), but you should probably not expect too much in the way of kick starting anything. Hejsan!

Tu as réussi à le faire ? Tu as réussi à le faire ?
___ Talk-ja mailing list Talk-ja@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ja

Which editor are you using? I've always used JOSM. Speaking to other mappers, they usually agree that data input for addresses takes 2-3 times as long as the actual surveying. My experience is that it takes even longer than that especially if the area contains small houses rather than bigger buildings. Drawing them all is very slow compared with inputting addr data. I'd say 10-20x. There are various reasons for this, some specific to mapping where I live (England). Why it takes a long time - 1. The usual problems of reconciling the surveyed data with existing data and the aerial imagery. 2. Adding other detail at the same time. In particular, adding buildings. It would be much quicker if I chose just to add nodes. So true. With the experience of tens of thousands addresses survey, this is really big obstable. Some of my surveyed data rotted(!) because the drawing delay hindered immediate input. That is, I lost the near-term memory about details before I could draw all the building I could easily survey addresses for. This is also the reason I really get almost angry when people oppose importing building without addresses (because they find them useless without other details such as addresses included already during the import). I doubt that such people have much experience on surveying addresses and trying to draw the buildings while inputting the addr data to OSM. I agree with these observations from your experience. Back in January I said I suspected building outlines were unimportant*. But that was before I started heavily address-mapping! My opinion now is that a two-step process works really well: first pass gets basic building outlines (from aerials or maybe even from imports), then second pass is address mapping on the ground, which will probably also include lots of changes to the building outlines. But the first pass makes the second pass a lot easier - both the surveying and the data entry. [Talk-GB] Bus routes and names
Hello, I don’t know what is going on: recently, I have been modernising London’s bus routes to the current public transport scheme as the Wiki recommended, which each variant having a direction. However, the user “max93600” has been playing around with the name of each variant. Whereas I use London Buses route 24 Northbound” to help editors each variant so they can put it to the right bus stop, max93600 has been changing them carelessly with the comment Modifications diverses”: in this editor’s recent edits, so that both directions of Bus 24 read Relation: Bus 24 : Grosvenor Road ↔ Royal Free Hospital (see 3523629 v25 and 3523630 v26). That causes confusion to editors because JOSM uses the name field to identify each variant. I’m only going by the book to update the routes to current alignments but how should I approach this without driving everyone insane? Re: [Talk-us] Changing the comment on a changeset after it posts
The name of an open changeset can be changed in JOSM too by simply changing the changeset name and then uploading it to the already open one. Regards, Theodin Am 20.08.2014 um 04:12 schrieb L. I'm amidst a large import and a few of the uploads have the wrong note. This is due to the auto-fill function of the comment in JOSM acting up (expletive!). Luckily they still convey basically the correct thing--that this is an import of Baltimore County data. I am hoping that I could just upload a changset to change a changset :) In the past I've been able to change a changeset comment using http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/RawEditor . This only works if the changeset is still open, so I think it depends on whether whatever created the changeset closed it, or left it to autoclose after an hour of no activity. -David ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us
