I'm not an expert on Token Ring, but I believe there are two kinds of Token
Ring NICs. One understands RIF, one does not. A host is set up depending

Think of FR as point-to-multipoint (multiple point-to-point), namely,
hub-and-spoke, which is the same as the star topology.
The hub router can talk to any of the spoke routers, but a spoke router can
not talk to other spoke routers unless it goes thru the hub router first.

Cisco's "layer 3 switching", simply put, refers to all routing processes
except process switching (conventional routing with CPU). Namely, any
routing process without CPU's intervention is considered "layer 3
switching". This has nothing to do with frames (layer 2) obviously.

That's because there are more than one equal-cost next hops. You see three
round-trip times because the packets with the same TTL were send out three
times. If you look at your hop 3, you can see that it responded three
times.

policy routing is an exception to that, but wasn't part of this discussion!!).

Hi Roger,
Thanks so much for answering my email :o)
I'm rather confused about the first condition as the BSCN course notes says: "A
rout
but ina a test environment where you have a DCE/DTE crossover and you supply clock
rate (as required in this config), you are running that circuit at the speed you
specify in the clock rate. Test it this way: set the clock rate for 56000, then do a
ping with say 50 packets (use extended ping)
The first condition is used in either unequal OR equal cost load balancing. It is to
prevent routing loops. Think of it like this: Let's say I'm going on vacation. I'm
in Arizona. I want to get to Florida. I can go thru Texas, which is my best route,
and there is a certain distance from Ca
true - and I have generally had inactive VC's when I am going thru an NNI. When both
ends are with the same phone co, they usually get it right, but when you go thru an
NNI you tend to have more problems getting both companies to get to the same meeting
switch & same DLCI at the same time. Yo
This is correct. And my understanding of the reason you can't use subinterfaces here:
With frame relay, we are used to having subinterfaces. They are on the same physical
interface, so if you think about it, something in every frame is telling the router
which subinterface it belongs to. It'
I have a few unused T1 CSU's & the V.35 DTE cables at work, so I found the pinout on
Adtran's website for a T1 crossover cable. Switch pins 1 & 5, pins 2 & 4, & take pins
3, 6, 7 & 8 straight thru. I tried it on a cat 5 cable to connect 2 CSU's, connected
each CSU via the V.35 DTE to a router'
I think HSRP could really handle this well - but with redirect - I haven't tried this,
but... :
static route out T1, floating static to other router, so it is only in the route table
when the T1 goes down, if it sends out the same interface it will forward the
packet & send back ICMP redirect.
Whether I am asking for a raise or not, I have formed the habit of doing this for my
boss & asking it of my employees. I do the same for my goals for the next year. And
although I put it in the file annually, I update it & tell my employees to update
theirs regularly, maybe every 3 months, or
this is shorter but would deny traffice that was originally permitted -
from hosts on 211 & 212 to 214.3.1.50 using the specified protocols & ports - assuming
that's really what you are trying to accomplish
remember the general rule for access lists of least specific to most specific
on the 1s

In place of "dialer map", you can use the "dialer string" command. Then you
don't need destination's IP address.
