According to the Mandrake Website the Mandrake 8.2 distro comes with
KDE3(beta). Where is it to be found on the installation media (I have the DVD
+ the 8 CD set)?
Where can I download KDE3 (final) rpms that will work without to much trouble?

I installed KDE3 rpms from kde website and now all or most of my kde
apps don't work. The only thing that works is Konqueror. No kword,
kspread or anything else ( yes I did install koffice3 ). Moreover, the
entire menu is gone completely. I run kappfinder, but it only foudn a

In the end, LM8.2 did NOT ship with KDE3 in any form. Jump over to
www.mandrake.com and KDE3 is mentioned in the news section on the front
page. This links to installation instructions and rpms for 8.0, 8.1 and 8.2

found them to be full of bugs and incompatibilities but I think they
have got them pretty much under control now.

To get the other styles displayed in kcontrol, add the following line to
~/.qt/qtrc
[General]
libraryPath=/opt/kde3/lib/kde3/plugins/
You don't have to restart KDE to load the new plugins.

KDE2 since that is what they were compiled for. I used the texstar rpms. I

When I installed KDE3 on my mandrake 8.1 everything looked OK, even the
programme menu on the "K" button on kicker. After adding a new entery to
the menu with menudrake almost all entires dissapeard from the "K menu".

I just went to www.kde.org and then to their downloads and picked and FTP
server. In there there should be a stable folder and then a 3.0 folder. In
side will be the distros. Just choose Mandrake and then 8.2. That's all I
did.
They may even have better links up on the site by now
you can find the packages for your Mandrake installation at www.kde.org.

I have my computer runing Mandrake 8.2 with both: kde 2.2 and kde 3.0.1.
Under kde 2.2 the left windows key open the kde menu, the right windows
key doesn't run.
But under kde 3.0.1 neither of those keys run.

I was running MDK 8.0 at home without a hitch till I upgraded KDE to 3.0
beta 1 using the MDK 8.0 RPMs last night. During updrade I did get some
dependency problems saying kdebase 3.0 beta 1 requires Menu so and so etc. ,
but upgraded using --nodeps anyway. The result is:

starting KDE or are you just starting the machine without any network
interfaces attached to it?

line in /etc/hosts. For example a standard /etc/hosts p
