George, have a go at it and let me know what you thinkand please pay
close attention to the restrictions and limitations mentioned in the doc
file.
Have a good one.

VM/VM Issues
George, VMARC files should be uploaded to VM binary mode, recfm F, lrecl
80. To unpack the VMARC file, you'll need the VMARC module. The doc I
mentioned is in the VMARC file, as well.
Let me know if you have any more problems.

Yet, Q ALLOC PAGE and SPOOL recognize a second volume for each:

that on your 1st level system.

There is plenty in the manuals about updating CF Parm disks at the same
level, but any ideas about how to update L2 parm disks from L1?
I have cloned the L1 directory, changed all 540 to 54X disks, and updated
the L2 directory from L1, getting the expected RC=5.
But when I try to link to CF1
L2 is a cloned L1 directory except for the volsers in the Directory and CF
Parm files which have all been made unique, ie 540 becoming 54X.
I plan to ipl as follows:
system reset
term conmode 3270
set mach esa
I 125b clear loadparm 009
START COLD DRAIN
To be safe, I suppose I should also add

That’s correct, you do not respond START with startup parms, just enter
the startup parms. In your case reply with COLD DRAIN NOAUTO and you’ll
be fine.

How do you setup a Level 2 Directory before you IPL the Level 2 machine
for the 1st time?
.
Minidisks with the END option specified are not included in a DISKMAP when
the command, DISKMAP USER is entered.
What is the reason for this?
Does this pose a danger when updating the directory directly, no pun
intended? :-)

So if my Level 1 Page and Spool have the last cylinder allocated, when I
DDR them, I can probably short the Page pack 1 cylinder, but I do not
think I can short the Spool pack 1 cylinder.
They are multi-disk, so when I short them 1 cylinder, I suppose it is just
on the last disk.
Also,
ty, Rich, for the heads up.
If, perchance, the 1st Level directory gets updated by mistake instead of
the second Level directory, ie you get RC 0, can you just do another
DIRECTXA with the 1st Level directory source to back it out as long as you
don't logoff, or is it too late.
Haven't done

Ray,
Please attach a copy of your EXEC in a reply.
I would find it very useful.
Also, would someone please give the pro's and con's of using DIRMAINT as
opposed to just XEDIT directly.
As long as your check DISKMAP for OVER and specify the EDIT option for
DIRECTXA, does DIRMAINT really buy
script. Just ensure you have free space in your DASD pools and your
good.

pack on the IIS being unused allows you to name the real packs anything
you want while still retaining the default names for the 2nd Level system.
Could you explain in a little more detail?

Sorry for my ignorance and naivete, but I am simply staggered at the
volume of page volumes of whatever size, 100 - 240.
I have just a Dev Test z/VM environment with 2 measly 3390-3's for Paging.
Granted, I am running only 5 z/OS vm's and 3 Linux vm's.
But, what does someone have to run that
