Kathy,
This is difficult. We have this position with the English 1846 census in that
for the place of residence it only gives information as to whether the place of
birth was within the county in which the person resided at that date (Y), out
of county (N), Ireland, Scotland, Wales or

Like Ron, I don't think it can be done in Legacy.
The closest would be to export people with a death place to a new file
and do a location report but that would be messy picking out the

I have a question about sourcing differences in a date. I have a source for a
death that says the child died young or soon. Later, after more research, I
found the actual date. If I put the date in and attach my new source, in
addition to the first source, it looks like both sources had the
I also file by MRIN numbers. Have a look here - this is the
system I use.

How about putting a note in the Source Detail Comments?

Is there any way to totally renumber the RINS starting from scratch? I
imported two seperate files from two FTM files and they are now in Legacy.
The problem is, the RIN numbers are sort of scattered all around. I would
expect my closest relatives to have the lowest number RIN (direct line)
Michele,
There is no way to quickly/automatically renumber all your RINs in the
manner you want (closest relatives, lowest RINs). You will have to do
it one RIN at a time. (To renumber RINs, click on Tools on the menu bar
and select Renumber RINs.)

As I'm not registered for Rootsweb Newsletter I haven't seen this but I would
be interested to know where/how a Gedom comes into loading pictures into World
Connect. BTW Gedom Standards have nothing to do with Legacy other than the fact
that they use it.

I realize this is a tad off topic but if you do use the filing system
recommended by Geoff R. and lets say you have 5 binders... When you find
more things on someone in the first binder how much trouble is it to shove
stuff from binder to binder to make room for the new stuff in the binders
Yowser! That really isn't an option since I have 3000 total in my file :(

Missy,
Just to add to Jim's comments, RINs and MRINs aren't as random as you
think. They're assigned in sequential order as you enter individuals and
marriages in the program.
The first import you did most likely retained the RINs and MRINs that were
in the original file, possibly filling in
I would bet no plans.
Legacy already has a facility for the export of gedcoms that can be uploaded
to WorldConnect. However, the gedcom spec, which is beyond Legacy's control,
concerns itself only with data, not images.

If you are mostly concerned about the closest two or three generations, one way
is to start a new file beginning with yourself, which will be saved as RIN #1
Then do a few sequential exports from the original file and import into the new

Since I last replied, Mark Lang kindly sent me the article from Rootsweb.
It seems to me that no changes to Legacy are necessary, although I do have a

Missy,
This didn't become an issue for me as I already had most of the
documents for the key families and so just divided the binders up
by what would fit in them - so some have 10 MRINS and later ones
might have 20 MRINS. I am not sure how you could avoid having to
move things.

You can export the close relatives to another file,
JB,
Legacy can't do this automatically. First off, you need to upload your
photos to the internet. Legacy won't know where those files are
located or what they are named.
So even though you don't want to, you would have to take each of those
individuals for whom you have photographs and load

No worry there - unless Legacy changes its way of working and I am sure the

Just want to say that I personally would never use a filing system that uses
MRIN's or RIN's as the basis.
The reason? Several years ago, I did (MRINs) - and then something

Hi Mary, I just use the 2 D ring binders. They work great for me. I have

such huge number of individuals.but for mine it's great. I

I think there are several of us on this list that are on the TNG list

Mary,
Filing cabinets also work just fine. The binder aspect of this system
is not critical. I actually use boxes as I rarely have to access the
documents again after I've extracted all the information into my
database. Granted I would prefer binders or filing cabinets if I had

We use the MRIN Filing System because we LOVE it. It takes about 5
