This week I ditched my inkjet and bought a Brother HL-2030 B&W laser
printer and couldn't be happier with it. It is connected to our
AirPort Extreme so our PowerBook and iBook print wirelessly from it.
I don't have a big need for a copier so we use our Samsung plain
p
I also read on Whirlpool to avoid HP as their Mac driver software is
crap.
I'm not 100% sure if it would work with the Base Station,
but in saying that you'd still have to unplug it to use the
scanner features
as the Airport only allows the Printer part to work.
No problem there.

With help from my daughter I got my Airport express working so that I
can share adsl with my powerbook and my husband's ibook.
One of the big problems was that as soon as I plugged the usb cord
from my Canon MP780 the airport express disappears, base station does
not exist. Any clues?

The Brother MFC that I have doesn't come up to scratch when I attempt to
print colour photos (too slow and little control). Does anyone have any
recommendations? So far I've looked at 6 & 7 cartridge Canon printers and an
eight cartridge Epson.

Dear Gary, I am using a Lexmark E220 which works well. I suspect it is
postscipt, because sometimes the printing from emails is a little odd,
which would have something to do with non postscript fonts, perhaps.

I have ended up with an HP LaserJet 4 M Plus printer, and am having
trouble getting it to appear under "Printer Setup Utility"
The printer has the following connection at the rear: Parrallell,
Serial, (JetDirect Module) Appletalk, Ethernet, BNC
The computer/s: eMac G4, iBo
is enabled on the printer. From the
distant corners of my memory you do this using the communications menu
available through the LCD display. You should be able to download a manual
from HP to assist you.
Once Appletalk is enabled, go the the Printer Utility or Print Centre in OSX
(Chooser in OS 9
I would be grateful for advice from members assisting me in connecting
above to a G4/400 PowerBook using the ethernet connection.

For one with network look at the HL1430 at a RRP of $499 is a good buy,
it has USB and Parallel interface, and has software for OsX.
this looks like the one to go with - Ethernet is not critical as the
printer can be shared between the two macs rather than be networked
it's self
