Re: [Audyssey] Mach1 problems and bugs.

2006-10-09 Thread shaun everiss
I think jim did this to stop people hacking the game.
However after playing other games, eg railracer and topspeed those
files really are crappy in comparison.
It would be good if we could modify those.
At 10:53 a.m. 10/10/2006, you wrote:
Hi all and Jim,
This week I thought I would make up a new sound theme for Mach1 racing
when I discovered an Oh so lovely bug in the game. It appears for some
reason the game only likes the wav files supplied with the game and
absolutely nothing else. Most of the effects are 11000 KHZ 8 byt mono
which I would hope to have something of a bit higher quality.
Anyway, I started by remaking the voice files by using Neospeech Paul
for the game voice, and the game blew up. I then took the approach Jim
has the wav format set to look for only 1000 KHZ 8 byt files so I
changed my voice files over to that format, dropped them in, and same
problem. Big big crash.
I can theorise why this is happening, but I am confused as to why Jim
would do such a thing. I am guessing the game is specifically checking
for size or byt rates, etc and if that is the case there is no reason to
do so. DirectX 8 and 9 can automaticly detect that info and adjust
accordingly.
Jim can you tell me why my files are being rejected, and what I have to
do to make mach1 except my files? If I can even do it without your source?

another thing is if the mods are good enough they will want to share
it, and if the dev in question is willing to post a section on mods

Audioquake for example is a mod of quake in itself.
However the 2 popular mods, overkill and jedyquake are most played.
I don't really like the audioquake standard mod but the rest is all right.

At 10:19 AM 10/30/2006, Thomas Ward wrote:
Hi all,
In the interest of everyone who wants to begin learning how to program
accessible games I will be launching the USA Games game programming
education project. What I plan to do is write an accessible version of
Asteroids complete with saving and restoring games, standard and arcade
style play, sound, music, etc... Once written I will be able to post the
full source code and release versions for download.
The source version will eventually include documentation explaining the
audio class and it's use with Microsoft DirectSound. Another tutorial
might cover working with Visual Studio Express 2005, and another might
discuss saving and restoring games, etc. I don't plan for all of this
suddenly to appear, of course, but if I put some time to it each week
those of you out there will not only have a free game, but one with a
full source written in C#.NET which will give you something to look at
and to practice your programming skills with.
The main reason I have decided to do this is I would like the community
at large to have not only accessible games, but high quality accessible
games. Most new programmers don't know how to do that. For instance,
most programming books won't tell you how to save and restore a game,
and you have to compile the information from two or more sources, and
understand serializing an object. With a sample right in front of you it
becomes pretty clear how it is done without all the explanations how it
works just that it does work. Which is what we all want.
Not only that there is always some trig equations needed to calculate
the distance between objects, directions, and updating there location.
Well, naturally I will be including them, and I will keep things at the
Algebra/Trig level and won't put to much on you newbies by making
everything 3D with vectors, and all that.
Anyway, if you guys think this will help the community add new
programmers to the rank, and help you guys learn I will be happy to
donate time in the future to this end ever.
Smile.

 Hi Liam,
No change isn't always bad, and in this case I feel it was about to
happen sooner or later. As I understand it from what I have heard from
Microsoft on the subject was that many VB programmers in the field
bombarded MS with requests to update the language and include more
features present in more powerful languages such as C++ and Java. These
days it is unreasonable to not have a good oop design present in a
programming language. Especially, seeing as all the really popular
languages like C++, Java, Python, etc have a good oop design and are
 more popular than non-oop languages.
Strictly speaking from my personal opinion and experiences when I was a
student in college they started us out on VB 5. Oh, I was happy as a
clam to be able to write something constructive, Mr. Programmer, and
all. However, as time went on I got in to more complex languages like
C++ and Java, and with them came more complex advanced concepts, new
design conventions, and so on. Once I learned, grasped, and understood
the advantages of what C++ and Java had to offer VB 5 seamed like a
joke, or a toy language for kids.
I mean I was really impressed with a simple subject like class
inheritence. How you could start out with a master class let's say
starship, put all your major variables and functions in there, and then
begin branching out, and create more and more specialised classes which
inherit the more generalised classes. With the creation of one instance
of an object you have access to not only the specialised class you have
access to variables and functions to everything that specialised class
was derived from. Even cooler you wrote the variables and functions
once, but everytime you create an instance of an object which points to
that class those variables are duplicated in memory for the specific use
of that object without having to write them over again for that item,
object, character, you are storing data for.
I guess to sum it up I learned oop design, and I couldn't live without
it. I found languages without oop design to be backward, outdated, and
really the hard way of doing things.
 Liam Erven wrote:

vb6.
I was surprised to find out you could program in vb6 like you would in
an
older form of basic, but the whole system is much much different now.
Change isn't always bad. I'm really enjoying this new version quite a
lot.

Is there any special reason you decided to go for Visual Basic rather than

I highly recommend going with C-Sharp over VB for the primary reason many
things are better documented and supported. One of these important areas

application developers during the 90's but it's popularity is on the
decline. Most of the VB croud have switched to C-Sharp.
Just some historical background when DirectX 7 and 8 came out Microsoft
unvailed it with VB 6.0 examples etc and offered newbies a simple basic
language with a good set of multimedia libraries for developing games and
 other amature home wrote applications.
In 2001 Microsoft converted all there Visual Studio languages to the .NET
Framework furthering increasing the power of the languages as well as a
universal development platform, and unvailed a new rapid development
language C#, called C-Sharp, which had many improvements over VB, used C++
style coding conventions, reused allot of concepts from Java, and became a
very new and innovative language. Now, it is rising in popularity, and in
some areas has passed up VB in popularity among amature programmers.
In 2003 when Microsoft DirectX 9.0 was unvailed to the world the
documentation was for C++ and C-Sharp users, and VB devs were left in the
 cold documentation and support wise.
Since I know both C-Sharp and VB as well as DirectX I know I could get
DirectX up and running in no time in VB, but for a newby I don't see that
happening without good samples and training.

 Oh, I see. Well, I recommend putting on VS.NET Express 2005. VS.NET
2003 was known for huge crashes and VS.NET 2002 was worse.
If they are using Super Nova it was no wonder the IDE sucked. Super Nova
isn't known for supporting Visual Studio anything very well. For that
you need Jaws 7 or Window Eyes 5.5 or later to be effective.

Just for reference with .NET Framework 1.0 and 1.1 it use to create a
special account on your computer. In order to restore your functunality
and disable the login issue you speak of you needed to go in to control

before restarting. I can say a system restore was unnecessary. All you
needed to do was remove the account.
Now, as for STFC and Montezuma's Revenge the binaries themselves will
run with Framework 2.0, but the installer was setup to only check for
1.1.43.22. I'm rewriting the installer and recompiling them to work with

Hello shaun, Welcome to the first official Trade Wars newsletter from Sylien
Entertainment!

Trade Wars®: Tournament Newsletter from Sylien Entertainment?xml:namespace
prefix = o ns = urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office /

November 2006

Welcome to the first newsletter edition of our exciting new project, Trade
Wars®: Tournament. EIS and Sylien Entertainment have been working very hard
to get this far in developing a brand new graphical version of the 22 year old
classic. We will use this newsletter to give you news on any upcoming Sylien
project, promotions and interesting partnerships.

Want to be involved?

To start off, we are excited to tell you that we’ve created a new web site
where you will not only be privy to the most recent information on this game
and its development, but may also actually become involved in the development
itself. The Club’s intent is to serve as a community of like-minded people
who want to be involved in designing Sylien games including the new Trade
Wars® product, as well as being creative with their own projects, whether
graphically, musically, in development or design, as well as creating a space
where interesting partnerships can spawn freely.

The new site is called the http://www.syliengameclub.com/Sylien Game Club
and you’re welcome to take a look by clicking on this link:

http://www.syliengameclub.com/?xml:namespace prefix = v ns =
urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml /

To celebrate our reaching this milestone, we’ve decided to give away some free
or reduced price Trade Wars®: Tournament registrations. Registration keys
would be handed out when we reach our next big milestone, which is when the
product is close to completion. This is a way to hold a registered copy at
reduced price (or totally free if you have your own TW2002 License key). It
is a limited time offer as we’ll want this place to be dynamic and catering to
the member’s whims.

Check out our new site and let us know how we’ve done!

Sylien Game Club Team

TWT Development news

Right now, Sylien is involved in creating a brand new video that will show how
Trade Wars®: Tournament will be played, full with graphics and drama (ta-da!).
It will be posted first on the http://www.syliengameclub.com/Sylien Game
Club web site to get some advice and guidance from the registered members,
afterwards we will probably distribute it throughout the Internet to see what
other people might think of this “old” game remade. Sound cool? Wait ‘till
you see the game layout!

We are planning on releasing a first version of the game as soon as the first
quarter of 2007.If we can get it out sooner, we will, but we want to make
sure the game works, is fun, and worth your valuable time to play. I’m sure
you will want to get in there and run a server or play a game with new
graphics and a brand new interface, just as we do, ASAP.

After our initial work is done, we’ll strive to provide options that you’ve
never seen associated with Trade Wars® before, like wireless/handheld device
access to games, a 2D MMOG casual aspect where you get to play around with an
Avatar inside StarDock (a famous Trade Wars space station), and play
Sylien-hosted ranked Tournament games as well. Lots of good stuff. But these
will take a few months to develop after the first bit is released.

The good news is that even though this product is commercial, we managed to
keep Trade Wars®: Tournament play and hosting of games FREE. You would only
pay for added value items, upgrades and services.

Cool no?

Thought you might like it.

Other products

On other news, you should be aware that Sylien Entertainment is not a
one-trick poney. Trade Wars®: Tournament is just the first product of a
series of products we have designed and have planned for release next year and
beyond. Plus, if we have sufficient input from the community through great
game design ideas, proposals and a good success with this initial product, we
might even develop several other games within the next 12 months.

We have an original 3D MMOG in the pipeline as well as another completely free
to play and totally accessible product designed. We’re also tinkering with a
few other great ideas for the future.

The question we’re asking ourselves is whether or not YOU will be involved in
our journey to success? How? As a player? Or as a designer, programmer,
artist, storywriter, partner?

 Hello list,
When posting to this list please keep in mind that there are gamers all
over the world attending this forum. Many of them, like Wagner, English
may be their second language and we should respect that fact. While we
the moderators would suggest that everyone here use a spell checker and
a grammar checker we will not force anyone to use them.
For reference please read guideline 9 which will clarify the rules
 regarding this issue.
Also I would like to make a point often it is not what you say or what
you ask, but how you ask or say it. In the post below the way Bryan
frames his suggestion sounds sort of rude and condescending. Weather he
meant to do so or not I don't know.
Rather than saying what Bryan said he might have asked the question
like, Please, can you use a grammar or spell checker the next time you
 post?

 Brandon armstrong wrote:

[Audyssey] Bavisoft things

2006-11-19 Thread shaun everiss
Hi all.
Over the last few days I borrowed chillingham and grizly gulch from somewhere.
I looked at the price for the cds, both games look really good.
However I couldn't complete them without cheating so killed them.
I looked at the price, they cost a load but not as much as I ghought if I get
them both at the same time.
I really need walkthroughs for these.
in chillingham for example I do not know how to get the church lady to get away
from the organ or the librarian to get my book.
I also in gg do not know how to get the gun off cletus or to ask a favor from
the banker.
I don't mind if the games don't have much replay value as I mostly listen to
audio things.
Its a pitty I had to borrow them to find they were worth my while.
Demos would have been realy good not to mention more legal.

Looks like the price is not as bad as I thought and I will buy them.
However walkthroughs and loads of them audio and text to both these would rock.
All the hard bits.
I origionally was not going to buy the games because they were like 80 if I put
the 40 dollar thing together, but 63 us or 126nz aint that bad, its what we
play for a top notch game here so I do not mind.
I was planning to buy something anyway.
I like the controls of these games.
However I can see if you really play these things a load they can get anoying.
Once I get these I'd like to do a walkthrough but I firstly need some solutions
to a few problems.
Thanks.

I have the games and I will send them to who ever wants them, I just need an
email address and I will send the entire archive.
If someone wants to host the archive, its something like 10mb then email me and
I can upload it to you.

 Hi all.
Over the last few days I borrowed chillingham and grizly gulch from
 somewhere.
I looked at the price for the cds, both games look really good.
However I couldn't complete them without cheating so killed them.
I looked at the price, they cost a load but not as much as I ghought if I
get them both at the same time.
I really need walkthroughs for these.
in chillingham for example I do not know how to get the church lady to get
away from the organ or the librarian to get my book.
I also in gg do not know how to get the gun off cletus or to ask a favor
 from the banker.
I don't mind if the games don't have much replay value as I mostly listen
 to audio things.
Its a pitty I had to borrow them to find they were worth my while.
Demos would have been realy good not to mention more legal.

Looks like the price is not as bad as I thought and I will buy them.
However walkthroughs and loads of them audio and text to both these would
 rock.
 All the hard bits.
I origionally was not going to buy the games because they were like 80 if
I put the 40 dollar thing together, but 63 us or 126nz aint that bad, its
what we play for a top notch game here so I do not mind.
I was planning to buy something anyway.
I like the controls of these games.
However I can see if you really play these things a load they can get
 anoying.
Once I get these I'd like to do a walkthrough but I firstly need some
 solutions to a few problems.
 Thanks.

Hi Kim,
Well as for the turret guns it was a military research base so naturally
it is apped to be well defended. I imagine them as some sort of defence
system that like everything else went out of control when the base
experiment failed.
As for the temperal disturbance it doesn't have to be all that large.
They are rifts in space time. Imagine it sort of as a pitch black sworl
that vaperises you when you come in contact with it.
The insane scientists are likely human size since they were lab
specialists before they were mentally effected and driven insane.
The boss is interesting. I kind of give him a demonic kind of
appearence. Kind of tall, strongly built, zombie-like looking, bright
glowing eyes, and able to vanish like a ghost.
The blob is probably based on the m blob movies. Typically, it is an
alien organic ooz with inteligence that writhes and bubbles. In the
movies I have seen they are able to shrink up to very small balls, and
expand to fill entire rooms.
The cyborgs are half human so they likely have the basic human size and
shape, but with allot of crome appendages, laser cannons, wires, and
hozes hooked to them.

Hope to have a game soon.

I decided against buying the other Vip sports titles, because I didn't
find playing against the computer too interesting(after three days, I

Re: [Audyssey] Gaming on Windows Vista?

2006-11-27 Thread shaun everiss
no I havn't heard anything.
However if this article rings true it means that games for the blind will have
to stay at dx9 level for now.
Either that or have dx9 and 10 support for backward compatibility.
I doubt that I will upgrade to vista and in deed upgrade for a few years yet.
Its taken me 4 or so years to get the 3 systems we have upgraded to xp, and
another year to stop using legacy win98 and office97 all together.
Yesterday I had to solve an issue with wmp11 and klite mega codec.
Its not likely I will upgrade for 2 reasons.
1. xpsp3 comes out when vista comes out or around then.
So I will upgrade to that.
2. the vista interface if thats like ie7 with toolbars that can't turn off and
search boxes that are core components, I wouldn't upgrade, I'd rather get xp
even if I have to download xp which is not legal, but I refuse to upgrade.
At least as long as I can.
I also can't afford the large memmory and other things I'd need for systems to
run vista, the 512mb ram system will not cut it and the 1gb minimum is reported
as just cutting it.
There is added security, and if its ms its more holes and annoyances.
I'll cross the bridge when something breaks, but as long as xp lives, or I have
a coppy lagit or not I will stay with it for now.
I do hope though that someone at ms make some sence come around.
I don't want to stay in the passed but it aint easy anymore.
IN the coming year I am upgrading screenreading software so I am ready in case
vista does have to go on a system.
Its my hope that xpsp3 will increas the life of xp by a bit at least.
Also the piracy things ms put in place will just become a nucence because some
hardcore crim always cracks the ms os and then security of the product keys
means nothing.
But who knows?
I may be proved wrong or not, who knows.

 Hi Ari,
The entire problem with Vista for us is that Microsoft is being very
silent and tight jawed about Vista except what they want you to know.
I've only managed to find out tidbits through talking to other devs who
have tested it, and stuff I read between the lines on the Vista Platform
 SDK.
However The message I have recieved through the info I have heard
and read so far is the message they have quietly implied to us is the
adapt or die attitude. In some ways I can't blame them as they have
been running the same old libraries for ages, and now the new platform
SDK is completely new and different. That is why many programs and even
games or going to die when Vista comes out. Naturally, Vista games will
not be backward compatible unless the company is using the .NET
Framework which is backward compatible to any operating system that uses
the same framework, and in the case of games DirectX as well.
I do know they will be releasing .NET Framework 3.0 for Win 2000, XP,
and Windows Server 2003, sometime next year so those operating systems
will have some compatibility with Vista for sure. 95, 98, ME apps will
 be dead.
As for DirectX 10 I believe it will bre backward compatible with DirectX
9.0 managed. I specified managed which is he .NET version of the DirectX
libraries. 9.0 had 8.0 compatibility libs for say VB 6, Visual C++ 6,
etc, but Microsoft has discontinued support for Visual Studio 98, which
is 6.0, and you can expect anything written in that era of languages are
going to die a quick death if they don't adapt soon. I saw this coming
in 20904 and started off with .NET to get ahead of the screaming that
will accompany the old line VB 6 devs if Vista doesn't support those apps.
The good news our accessible game developers are slowly but surely
moving to C#.NET or VB.NET. I know Justin knows VB.NET, Che knows
VB.NET, Josh I think went to C#.NET, I believe it was Liam playing with
VB.NET a little bit, I am using C#.NET for all my titles, and that is a
good sign that developers are in the process of making the switch.
However, the status of our older titles will have to wait for Vista to
come out. Perhaps it is not as bad as we think it will be, and it could
be worse than we think. I know most of the games for accessible games
are VB 6 like the Kitchens Inc games, the GMA Game Engine, Lone Wolf,
Trek 2000, Liam's Games, and plenty of others, and if Vista doesn't have
proper support for those older apps those games are going to crash, and
the accessible gaming market will come to a screaming hault in that event.
Either way, Vista is probably going to be a highly expensive upgrade for
the accessibility community. We will have to upgrade to the latest
screen readers as I have been told for a fact that anything, I do mean
anything older, than the latest Jaws or Window eyes will not run on
Vista and work properly. That is tough as I know people still running
Jaws 4.5 and 5.0 on XP, Window Eyes 4.2, and so on and they will be
paying through the nose to fully upgrade screen readers to run with the
 thing.
If, I mean if, many accessible games don't work, need to be rewitten, I
can imagine upgrade or repurchase prices would be in order for the work
involved in porting them to the new operating system which would have to
be done sooner or later to maintain some kind of value. Else will end up
like the old dos games fforgotten and unplayed.
I can see several other programs requiring updates, and the entire
 upgrade becoming an investment.
However, XP still has allot of life in it and even though Vista will hit
the seen next year there is nothing wrong in holding to XP for a couple
of more years buying the necessary upgrades one at a time, and of course
wait for the accessible games to test and figure out if the products
will work on Vista or not. All of this is pretty much the hypathetical
 long view on my part.

integrated Internet Exploder 7 which is which is a fully integrated core
part of the operating system. Somehow that seams like a violation of the
Netscape case, but we are talking Microsoft.

Snip
I also can't afford the large memmory and other things I'd need for
systems to run
vista, the 512mb ram system will not cut it and the 1gb minimum is
reported as just
cutting it.
End Snip

That is also true. I generally follow the rule of double what ever
Microsoft says the requirement is. If they say 512 MB. give it 1024
which is a GB. of ram. If they say 1 GHZ processor give it 2 to b safe.
The main reason is that those requirements Microsoft gives are
technically true, it will run, but it will not run well or be practical.

2 more or at least 1 definate service pack of xp coming.
This should give everyone time to adapt to vista, who knows maybe we will be

Maybe someone will find ways to make the more anoying features of vista go away.
I wander what powertoys will be for vista, since every os so far has powertoys

I know sink toy is going to vista, maybe tweakui I only use the old control

www.draggonslayergames.net is the site I think someone correct me I'm a bit

Anyway there is no install you need something like winzip to actually get it to
work right but after extraction to a folder it all should all run ok.
You need to install the full versions first, then the patch version.

It should work off the bat.
no hotkey though.

Re: [Audyssey] Gaming on Windows Vista?

2006-12-01 Thread shaun everiss
true tom.
However I fail to see why ms releases xp and vista in the same year.
I'd rather get xpsp3 and then later sp4 rather than vista.
Would be different if ms just said xp was going to die real soon, but its life
has been extended.
And by the time xpsp4 dies if xpsp4 actually comes out, there is a chance that
the next version of windows will be out.
Still who knows, its taken around 5 or so years for vista to come out, its
probably going to take longer for the next gen systems after that.
Hopefully when I eventually get vista, prices have dropped and some nice
persion has made hacks for some of the more anoying features.
Oh and for those that want vista, get xp media centre, Someone told me that
vista is basically that.
Its a pitty the blind can't design its own windows interface like we used to do
with the old keynote keysoft.
It would still use windows, its just we wouldn't use th interfaces windows had.

any money out of that. Therefore Vista is what you will end up buying

Re: [Audyssey] mutant humans

2006-12-02 Thread shaun everiss
What would be cool as an idea for the game, is maybe for a future version.
You shutdown the experiment only to have a second base have the same issue,
something is broke maybe and you need to fix it, and maybe its actually small
enough to do.
You can either shut it all down or fix what ever is broke or something or mabe
do this after.
Also I'd change the ending, ie you have a radio and can call your shuttle to
you seems pointless you leaving your ship and using the emergency radio to get
out.
At 02:44 PM 12/2/2006, Thomas Ward wrote:
Hi Nicol,
As the manual clearly states John Britain and his staff were conducting
genetic experimentation when the experiment went wrong somehow. From the
story the complex is not in an office building, but in a mountain base
hidden inside the mountain.
Now, since we know the experiment was genetics clearly there first tests
would be done on rats, dogs, and other animals before moving on to human
subjects. That explains how we got mutant dogs and giant rats, andthe
blobs have been created through experimentation. The cyborgs must have
been an experiment of joining machine and man, and well the resulting
creatures were deadly creatures.
The story doesn't say what went wrong and how, but I have my own theory
about that. Simply, during the experimentation they used the lower staff
which mutated and killed most of those who had control of the expriment
or they were accedently caught up in it. John Britain who caried the
experiment control box was definately converted in to something, the
boss, and he was no longer human after his transformation.
For what ever reason all the creatures being experimentated upon escaped
there labs and killed those who were not effected or the entire complex
was effected, and either way all of them were running loose like insane
and deadly creatures feeding upon each other, and on someone who enters
the base.

make games. Unfortunately, people seem to trust any word of mouth
they get, even if it's from one person only, My sales went down
dramatically after the chargeback.
So, now it was June. One fine day, I decided to just throw it all
away. I will admit it can be called cowardly for me to do so, but I
did not really have a choice. Pressing on would have resulted in a

Re: [Audyssey] ATTN!! message from Munawar bijani about bpcprograms

2006-12-04 Thread shaun everiss
Yeah tourniment for all its crappy non sfx and old style music and sapi voice
is actually quite good, I would have liked it to be non crap and I think
munawar was going to make it so and do it properly.
I wanter if munawar's personal pages are still up, hmmm.

person who did this to him stole the game pure and simple. That's Ok Steve
because the Lord will remember.

I am writing on behalf of Munawar, the brains behind bpc
programs. Some of you have been asking why he is no longer in the
business, Here's the full story in his words. Make sure to read the
message thoroughly as we can all learn a thing or too from it.
--

I started out around 2001 I think. my goal was to create games for
blind people. at first they were free, and then suddenly I started
charging, because Treasure Hunt had become a real first person
shooter complete with an overall objective.
That was when I had lots of time, and, most importantly, motivation.
I wanted to leave a mark in the so-called blind gaming community,
because I realized something quite quickly.
We had too many rated E games, games for kids rather than adults.
So began my major upgrade to Treasure Hunt. There's a common
misconception that I just wanted to expand the game and put more
features in it, bringing it up from version three to four. The real
reason was that we needed more serious action games; games which run
around a storyline.
So now we were in the four year round about of BPC's life. Treasure
Hunt was released six months later, I believe February of 2005.
Now, everyone who followed the evolution of Treasure Hunt remembers
the major patch upgrades. The game was quite bug-filled, which showed
me that my skills in programming actually weren't as well-planted as
I had thought they were.
And, of course, my beta testers were jokes, save a select few (you
know who you are)
So from Feburary 2005 to early 2006, I was releasing patch after
patch. That was my job; it wasn't a good experience for me at all,
and I quickly realized Treasure Hunt was, in itself, a failure. The
game turned out to be rated E although I had hoped it wouldn't be,
and some things did not work for no apparent reason.
After this period of patch releasing, I arived at the first really
stable version of Treasure Hunt, 4.25, and that's when I was able to
turn my attention to the finances of the organization. Payments were
coming in nicely the first couple months, then declined. They went
back up in December of 2005, thanks to Christmas shoppers. Developers
love Christmas.
Finally, I saw a steady drop of purchases, In March, I made one sale,
April was zero, and May was around that number. But then came a
further change, and it was not a pleasant one.
someone actually filed a charge back against me. Can you believe the
morality of this person? I won't name them, but they will know who
they are when they read this. This individual had bought a copy of
the game from me, and then turned around and claimed that I made an
unauthorized purchase to their credit card.
Not only did Pay Pal refund their money, they also gave them $10.00
extra. This leech was paid $10.00 for buying my game!
I had given them the registration key and everything, I saw no fault
with the order. They got what they paid for.
Now, Consider all of what I have said. I did consider everything, and
I'll briefly recap.
Treasure Hunt was a rated E game when it wasn't supposed to be;
someone accused me of credit card fraud, something which degraded my
reputation greatly; there was no more money being made; I lost my
motivation; and, finally, I hated all those 13-year-olds trying to
Pressing on would have resulted in a
lawsuit, which I do not have the money to fund, A plane which started
off quickly and then crash landed, that's what happened with
BPCPrograms, SD, And that, my fellow gamers, was the story of the
BPCPrograms Software Division.
message ends
I've no idea if Munawar would want to put up treasure hunt for free
like what was done with self destruct and danger city but I suspect
not considering all that's happened.
Take care

 Hi Bryan!

I don't remember where I read this, but they did a test with teenagers
and their computers. When the teenagers were happy with their computer in
the games they played there computer seemed to perform better than the
teenagers that were always upset with their computer and the games they
 were
playing. I am not sure what I believe concerning that test. However,
computers are all electronic and electrnic fields and the human body
produces some electric fields around the body. that could have some kind
 of
affect that is not really known, yet. It is an interesting thought
 whatever
 the case might be.

Re: [Audyssey] STFC 1.0 released.

2006-12-04 Thread shaun everiss
the directx version avaible to ms updating software is 2004 or there abouts,
you need to go to something like www.softwarepatch.com, click windows link, and
you are away, the site is loaded with adds, popups and things, and they have
been slack with update descriptions, however I am prepaired to let this addware
filled site go, as it gives good reviews, I also think they test all stuff they
do before uploading the info for the downloads.
Without that site I wouldn't have what I have today its saved my rear loads of
times so I don't mind extra junk that comes from it.
For the service it prevides I'd even concider donating some cash they are that
good.
Its one place you can be sure to pick distributables and if you are lucky
enough and well if there is time betwene updates you may see powertoys amongst
the patches.

On cardations I need to use phasers and torps, and klingons I also need to do

Also power on defient does not properly restock always staying at 90% so I have

voice is actually quite good, I would have liked it to be non crap and I
think munawar was going to make it so and do it properly.
I wanter if munawar's personal pages are still up, hmmm.

 Treasure Hunt was a rated E game when it wasn't supposed to be;
someone accused me of credit card fraud, something which degraded my
reputation greatly; there was no more money being made; I lost my
motivation; and, finally, I hated all those 13-year-olds trying to
Pressing on would have resulted in a
lawsuit, which I do not have the money to fund, A plane which started
off quickly and then crash landed, that's what happened

I usually extract the files then delete the extracter because the extracter

Re: [Audyssey] STFC tactics was STFC Podcast

2006-12-05 Thread shaun everiss
My tactic is almost the same.
On easy at least I have never tried any higher.
I have destroyed a load of ships, let them come.
Then sent 2 ships to each space if there is that many left, at one stage I
didn't keep up with restock and mannaged to justhave 3 ships, and so I sent 2
to somewhere had defient destroy the cardations and then send it and the other
ship I had left the other way.
What usually happens is I have to sacrofise at least 2 ships to destroy
klingons and romulans.
The romulan and klingon maybe other enemy ai is a bit dumb.
They attack one ship, and another ship attacks the same ship, leaving the other
able to destroy the enemy.
The issue with this is they do not always go for the bate I set if I take
defient.
If they do I hit them with defient although I prefur not to use defient so much
as I have limited torps.
Its phasers are really powerfull as long as you don't have to deal with more
than 2 ships at once and as long as you can cause serious dammage on the first
hit.

 situations where this doesn't work.

In Trek 2000 that was a possible tactic, but actually not the most
effective in STFC. In STFC the enemies are in two forces. Those which
remain in there own space and those that openly attack Federation space.
Clustering your forces together simpely won't work in STFC.

Re: [Audyssey] Audio Game Maker - Sneak Peek

2006-12-05 Thread shaun everiss
unless there is a way of incripting the xml files I doubt there is much point
in selling the games you make.
donationware sounds a good option, freeware, although opensource probably will
work just as well.
At 01:25 PM 12/6/2006, AudioGames.net wrote:
Hi David,

I'll try to answer that question the best I can:

Every game that is created with Audio Game Maker consists of multiple files:
a standard Audio Game Player.exe, some standard library files, an XML file
that contains all the data of the game, and four folders that contain all
the sound files that are used in the game. To distribute a game, you simply
share these files with someone else (simply .zip them up and send 'm). That
person does not need to have Audio Game Maker, as all games are stand-alone.
However, when someone receives a game from somebody else and puts the files
in the Audio Game Maker folder, that person is able to open the .XML game
file using Audio Game Maker. This means that when you create a game with
Audio Game Maker and distribute it (either for free, money, goats, Linden
dollars or MySpace kudos) others can access your game file later on, edit
it, change the soundfiles, and distribute it themselves for even more goats
or red paperclips.

Therefore I hope you see that once you sell one game and it's out on the
Net, others can easily modify it. I personally don't have anything against
you selling a game you made with Audio Game Maker (you have every right to
ask for compensation for your hard work), but with how Audio Game Maker
works, you probably won't make that much money. Although, I might add, I
hereby dare the community to come up with your own economic system if you
want ;) Like a donation system, or a ransom marketing system (you create a
game but not yet release it, advertise it, and when you receives enough
money in donations, you release the game for free), etc. etc.. I dare you
all, folks ... (smile) ...

The goals of the Audio Game Maker project are:

1) to increase the amount of audio games
2) give visually impaired wanna-be game designers a chance to develop their
own audio games with a (simple) what you hear is what you get- kind of
tool (at least something simpler than C++)

I am personally very interested in point 1, since more games means more
examples added to the discourse means more knowledge on audio game design
and more examples of accessible game design for the general game industry.

For us there is no financial gain in this whole project. We decided for a
non-protected format for the games for several reasons. One was that it is
quite hard (given the short amount of time in which Audio Game Maker is
conceived) to create a tool with which one can create games that are
copy-protected/piracy safe. The other was that we would like to create a
community of people all developing audio games, sharing their ideas and
games with each other, teaming up to build larger games together. We were
thinking along the lines of this: let's say that there are a few people out
there who want to build a Pong-type of game. With Audio Game Maker, once
someone has finished a Pong game, others can use that game to create their
own version, convert it into an Arkenoid type of game, etc.

Many of you are currently into modding existing audio games. Think of this
as not only being able to change each others sound files, but also take a
game and make it your own. This is something that has been going on with
Flash/Shockwave game development for many years already.

Is this enough of an answer?

Greets and thanks for your interest!

Richard

 Hi Niall,

 Snip
 Next gen sounds good
I'm kind of new to star trek though I'm watching tng right now infact for
my first time it sounds like a good series.
 End snip

Yeah, TNG was probably the best of the trek series. TNG is still my
favorite. Although, I like Voyager, original, DS9, and Enterprise as well.

 Snip
classes sounds good also it would
be good if you could be different races too such as the romulens or the
 borgue.
 End snip

We will have to see about that. That really complicates things if I have
to code both an AI and end user controls for all starships to allow the
player to be a particular race.

 Snip
Hmmm I'll have to think about that one I don't
like weapons that you can't defend yourself against that's what I find
annoying about startrek 1.0 is that the enemy can decloak and kill you in
one turn if they want to and it's especially hard on advanced and expert
since they have better ships then you and more of them.
 End snip

That is where practice, strategy, and learning to play the game comes in
 to play.
It is extremely difficult to really learn to play STFC correctly in it's
turn based state as you have to guess enemy attacks, and find ways to
keep them from ganging up on one starship and destroying it.
I think to this end real time might be somewhat easier on the gamer as
the other starships will be AI driven, and your main roll is to fly the
flagship, and direct them to defend the starbase, attack the Klingons,
 or what ever.

 Snip
 Hmmm I'm not
sure maybe but it would be hard to do all that if you want a fast pased
game with lots of action and combat.
 End snip

True... However, it does make things more interesting. Although, it
would seriously complicate things for the average gamer whom I figure
wants to be able to just jump in and play and not try and cover every
 realistic possability.

 Snip
Yeah that sounds good too just don't make them too powerful
 lol.
 End snip

Grin. The entire point of the Borg is to be powerful and tough. Likely
they will be like an advanced level or boss level of play.

 Snip
 Like
I said before being able to be the other teams would be cool which would
mean you would have to make each team equal in power.
 End snip

Well, all the stats for the starships are more-or-less based on theStar
Trek tech manuals. Not all ships on Star Trek are equal in power. The
Cardassians for example have a top warp of 9.2 and something like 225
photon torpedoes. The Enterprise from TNG carries 250 photon torpedoes
and a max warp of 9.6. The Enterprise from Star Trek 8, 9, 10 has 300
photon torpedoes, 150 quantum torpedos, and a max warp of 9.7. Bottom
line if I were to do different races their starships would be based on
 there actual abilities.
Of course, with experience levels they start out at actual true Trek
stats, and get more powerful as they are suppose to be more difficult
 than normal.

 Snip
online playing would be cool too.
 End snip

That would be certainly interesting. Especially, for the turn based game
where 4 players could pick a race to command and then battle it out for
victory. That would likely be a free for all as everyone would be
 enemies with everyone else.

 Snip
Another thing is that each ship should
 have much more health.
IN fc 1.0 it is far too easy to kill each other
there should be a good cross fire before 1 side is taken down.
 End snip

Agreed, but the shielding actually isn't the issue here. The real issue
lies in being turn based and not being able to evade in real time, power
up your shields when hit, and being a ble to fire to many weapons at once.
There are ways to fix this though.
Have a random generator randomly select the damage done by an impact.
Have a random generater pick weather the hit was successful or missed.
Restrict the player and enemies to only a specific number of torpedoes
per turn meaning you may have to do many turns to a single battle.
