how to make a browser read a specific .css file

2008-10-01 Thread Remedy Maniac

dear lister,

as I got no answer on my previous post, I try to query for help for the
same issue once again.

This time with other words :-)
I have ARS 6.00.01 and mid-tiers 6.3 patch 13 runing on Apcahe 1 /Tomcat 4
Yes I know this looks all quiet old.
But the worse is that some users use Mozilla 1.4 or Firefox 1.5. Yes you
read correctly. And this is not a Friday humour.

And they do not want to move from their clients and the reste.
Yes you can wish me good courage continuing to work in such conditions :-)

Anyway now I am annoyed because these mentioned browsers do not read
correctly the css which is in

/mywebserver/webapps/arsys/resources/moz/stylesheets/moz/ARSystem.css
So fields are not readable at all.
So I've created a new directory with a adapted file for them under
/mywebserver/webapps/arsys/oldmos/stylesheets/ARSystem.css

And I would like to make these F*%^$*# browsers read this later file.
Is that only possible?
Where does the Remedy get the info for the mentioned directory?
Many thanks for any idea/help or comments which could give me better
mood :-D

Serouche

Re: Plugins for vendor forms

2008-10-01 Thread Rakesh Kiruba
I want to connect to an Oracle database running in a remote server.

I finished installing LDAP in my Machine. But when tried to configure LDAP by
opening ARDBC LDAP Configuration form am getting the following error as
mentioned below,

ARERR [8760] Cannot establish a network connection to the AR System Plug-In
server : green : RPC: Name to address translation failed - n2a: unknown error
#-5

The preceding message occurred during the execution of active link LDAP
ARDBC:GetCurrentValues -- action 1. (ARNOTE 1101)

How to check whether the Plug-in is working properly?

Any idea on how to proceed with this?

Thanks and Regards,

What do you want to connect to?

The LDAP directory (MS, Novel)?

I do not know too much details about the Croom plugin but from what I had heard
OR from what I remember, it catered more to cross database connects.

For eg you could connect to a SQL database from Oracle or a Oracle database
from SQL. I do not think they could connect to active directories but then I
may be wrong as I haven't used this product.

If you want to connect to an LDAP directory, the built in AREA and ARDBC plugin
should be more than enough and you do not need any other third party product in
order to do that. You can view all the data in your LDAP directory using ARDBC
after you correctly configure the same and build the necessary vendor forms.

For ITSM7 you need not to buy CROOM plug-in, inbuilt plug-in are available.

I don’t know whether it is same for ARS7 without ITSM.

Re: Exporting Blob File Attatchments From Remedy ARS V6

2008-10-01 Thread Ben Chernys
Not really sure how pl/sql can help since the blob is compressed with a
proprietary compression algorithm.

The easiest way would be with Meta-Update where you can control the output file
names as desired.

You can also use any API programming language such as Perl, Java, c, etc and
write your own code.

You can also, run some workflow through an escalation or whatever trigger you
like. A filter can export an attachement to the file system on the server. An
AL can export it to the client. Of course you'll have to deal with file names,
directories, slash vs backslash etc.

See the special process:

PERFORM-ACTION-SAVE-ATTACHMENT field_ID [file_name]

Cheers

Re: how to make a browser read a specific .css file

2008-10-01 Thread Carey Matthew Black
Serouche,

You realize that you are off the compatibility matrix in the software
that you are trying to support. So the changes your need to make will
also be unsupported and likely will need considerable effort to
implement and maintain from Mid-Tier version to version.(including
patches) However, it sounds like you are quite determined to implement
this so ... here is what I would do if I were in your shoes...

1) Tell your management that it is not supported and is not changeable.
2) repeat step 1
3) When management still will not take reality for an answer then
open an enhancement request with BMC. Then tell management that there
is no way that BMC will enhance v6.3 Mid-tier to implement this
feature.

4) When management still will not take reality for an answer then
you have to decide to do it on your own.
(Here comes the technical part)

Ok... if I had to reinvent this wheel..
It looks like Remedy is using a servlet to get to the proper
resource files. I based this conclusion on the web.xml file having
this URL mapping:
  servlet-mapping
servlet-nameResourceServlet/servlet-name
url-pattern/resources/*/url-pattern
/servlet-mapping

and the HTML source linking to the CSS this way: link
rel=stylesheet
href=../../../../resources/stylesheets/ARSystem.css/link.

So... I think changing that should be out of the question. However the
way CSS works is a last in wins model. So if you were to add a way
to conditionally include another CSS file _after_ the normal ARS CSS
stuff then you should be able to get programmatic control, identify
the browser and then decide if you need to include another CSS file or
not.

In short...I think you could do something like this...

*) Implement Web footer Content for all forms/views the users will
be using to run your own javascript to decide if you need to
dynamically include another CSS file. NOTE: This may only work on
views that are web views too. So you may need to create a new set of
views for all of the forms too.)

There may be other solutions too... but I am trying to work in the
system as much as possible to try to keep this as forward compatible
as possible too.

So you would need to do something like:
) make a change to every form and view that matters in your application
) develop and maintain browser detection code that works on all
browsers that you support
) develop and maintain CSS code, that works with the version/patch
level of the Mid-Tier your using for the other browsers that you are
going to support
) Every time you need to make a change to the Mid-Tier you will have
to re-evaluate this solution and it's validity too.

Which is no small task.

By the way: I strongly suspect that the reason no one else has
commented on this thread is that this is very far off the beaten path
and is really not advisable. However, with AR System ... most things
are possible. :)

Hope that helps, but I doubt it does.

I contacted BMC regarding this issue over a year ago and they identified
it as a defect around the GUID on the form -- there is a unique index on

Re: Archive Process - Resolved

2008-10-01 Thread Russ Grant

I had configured the archive process to delete the master record after it was
archived. Some years back I had created a filter on the master table (schema)
which sent an email notification when a record was deleted, this filter on the
master record caused the archive to fail - when I disabled the filter the
archive completed. This problem has been reported to BMC support - I'm not sure
at this point if it is viewed by BMC as a bug. On one hand I really didn't want
to get 89k email notifications that 89k records were being deleted after the
archive process so I'm glad the archive process failed until the filter was
disabled but at the same time I guess it could be possible that a filter that
executes on delete may be needed.

My first attempt at using the native archive process. When configuring the

Re: change request error

2008-10-01 Thread Lisa Westerfield
Although the categorization fields are not required, they are still
validated if they contain values. Try manually reselecting the values
in the categorization fields, and you will quickly notice which value is
no longer enabled for use in that company as it will not appear in the
list anymore.

Also, if you are using a Change Template to create the change, and it
contains categorizations, reselect the categorizations and save the
template before using it.

Hope that helps,

LisaD

Hi Group,

I am running into an error when I am trying to create the
change request. The error is as follows The operationa categorization
information is invalid for the specified company. Use the menusto select
this information. I never encountered such an error before. I did set
all the operational categorization information which was not being used
to offline a couple of days ago but that should not be affecting this
process right. It is not a required field. Can any one please suggest
why I am running into this error. I am on Ar Server 7.1 and change
management 7.0.03.

Thanks

Better Friday Humor

2008-10-01 Thread Marty.Thorin
Since we do not seem to be able to avoid politics, I offer, again, a
better joke.

Mary Poppins' Hotel Stay

Mary Poppins was driving home late at night in some really bad weather
when she decided to spend the night in a motel. After signing in, she
asked if the dining room was open, and the clerk apologized, but offered
the room service menu, from which Mary Poppins selected the cauliflower
cheese. She also decided she would have breakfast in bed in the morning
and asked for poached eggs. In the morning the clerk asked how she
liked the cauliflower cheese and the poached eggs. Mary Poppins said
the cauliflower cheese was good but the eggs weren't much. The clerk
apologized but suggested the Mary Poppins might like to leave a comment
in their suggestion ledger. After some thought Mary Poppins made an
entry and was on her way. Being a curious type, the clerk looked to see
what she wrote, and was amused by the entry

Notifications Slow

2008-10-01 Thread Timothy Rondeau
Hi,

We currently are running 7.0.1 patch 2. I have noticed when I submit
an Incident it takes 1 minute to upto 5 minutes to save. Emails go
through the Notification process. I am wondering if anyone has seen
delays and what can be done to improve this?

I know this goes from Help Desk form to NT Process Control form to
Individual NT Control form then to Notifier and then finally to the
Notifier Log.

So I can understand a long process, but I need to improve the speed.

Thanks

2008-10-01 Thread Rick Cook
I think prudence would call for one or more of these in future responses:

1) A response from someone who can speak for Turing.
2) Responses that are more than rumors. Rumors can cause damage to
relationships of all kinds, and it would be unfortunate if Turing's were
damaged for false reasons. If you don't have evidence to back up your
rumor, prudence would dictate keeping it to yourself.
3) Not assuming something bad about Turing unless and until evidence
appears to support those assumptions.

Hello Shafqat,

Usually turning on your SQL logs can tell you the cause of such errors..
turn them on and look at the last statements that were successfully executed
by the database before the database rolled back transactions.

Trigger the action or actions that cause that error as soon as you turn on
your SQL logs and then filter the SQL logs by the user that exectued the
actions that triggered the error.

I am noticing an error message in the arerror.log file. The message is as
follows.

The value(s) for this entry violate a unique index that has been defined for
this form: NTE:SYS-Group NT Control entry NTG00063532 fields: 100205

Ok I understand what the entry means, what I cannot find is, what is causing
this to happen. Obviously some workflow/process is trying to create entries
in this form. But what process or workflow? does anyone have any idea?

Thanks Ben and all others who wrote to help
The problem if you are interested in the solution was two filters which someone
had written getting into a loop!!
Disabling one of the filters fixed the problem.
I would have thought the ARS Server would/should be able to handle this type of
problem and not just crash.
The problem was, and this has still not been identified, nothing was getting
written to ANY log files!! so the analysis of the log files did not show
anything.

Many thanks once again

It cannot be the assignment engine.  The assignment engine got a 90 which means
he was the first to issue an api call (unsuccessfully, so in fact having done
nothing on the server at all) and the server was not listening on a port.

A Segmentation Violation is the result of a bad pointer in the arserverd c
code.  This can happen for a number of reasons: a stray store of a byte onto
the wrong place in the stack can go unnoticed for a long time and in many
different installations.

While adjusting the callers / clients CAN make such an event go away (by
avoiding a specific code path in arserverd) ANY Segmentation Violation is a
result of bad code in arserverd.  On behalf of the arserverd coders, I would
venture to say ALL non-trivial software will have some of these lurking around.

In any event, I would turn on pretty much all logging (api, sql, filter),
non-buffered, into a single file.  I would perhaps monitor the growth of the
file deleting it every now and then.  I would also look at any binary patches
issued that may have corrected the problem.  Binary patches are relatively easy
to install and back out though of-course, if the problem is very hard to
reproduce, testing a version is always difficult.

Cheers
Ben Chernys

Slow response to a save is generally the cause of searches to the DB before the
save, that may or may be on a extremely large table and possibly causing a
table scan. I would check that.

Just out of curiosity, are your emails set to be deleted on being processed on
the server? I believe that could be one of the causes for the email engine to
process new emails slowly.

In my experience, importing a form def over the same form that is part of a
deployable application will break the link to the deployable application, and
break the entire application if it is a central form. The same is true of
other objects. To avoid this, use Remedy Migrator or an equivalent application
to move your changes.

You can also export the form from the application and reimport into the
application. This will also maintain the links in the deployable application
and will not remove the associated permissions. You can do this by selecting
the Applications object in the Admin tool. Double-click on Remedy Incident
Management and click on the Forms object list. Right-click on the
HPD:HelpDesk form and export to a def file. Import into the application by
navigating to the application in the admin tool.

I have an ITSM dev system that has modified the HPD:Help Desk form and I am
moving it to our QA system. Now at this point there is no data, so I thought
I could just export the HPD:Help Desk form from one system and import it to

That worked, however when I try and open up the Incident Management Console

Both systems are licenses, any ideas?

2008-10-01 Thread strauss
I have been pounding on ITSM 7 servers using Migrator for several years now -
it works like a champ! I do always set it to NOT migrate any required objects
(Tools - Options - Migration - Required Objects - set all to No) so that it
won't try to bring along something I don't want. I use it to move
customizations into production, and more importantly, to move customizations
from production back to development after I install an ITSM patch that
overwrites them, and again from development to production once I apply that
same patch on production. I had to do that complete process to move from patch
006 to 007, and will do the same to get to 008. I would NOT want to even
attempt it without Migrator to identify changes and then help clean up
afterwards.

Thanks, but will Migrator work with ITSM 7? I remember reading something about
issues using Migrator with ITSM 7.

Thanks again,

Web Service Error

2008-10-01 Thread Wangler, Dan
Dear List

We are trying to set up a Web Service on our ARS 7.0.1 Patch 5 system and
getting errors.

Our AR server is running on Solaris 9 with an Oracle 10 DB. MidTier 7.0.1
patch 5 is running under WebLogic Express 8.1.3 on the same server. We have
Java 1.4.2_12 install.

We have a home grown helpdesk application. We want another application to pull
information from our HD form. We have setup a Web Service on our HD form. We
have mapped everything; we have created a WSDL. We can view the WSDL pressing
the View button on the Web Service definition page. Everything looks good on
this side.

For testing purposes, we have created a new AR form with a subset of the fields
that are on our HD form. We have created a filter to pull information, on
modify, through Web Service from our HD app to the new form..

However, when we open the second form and modify an entry, we get the
following: ARERR [9130] An exception occurred from the WebService class :
java.lang.IncompatibleClassChangeError; nested exception is:
java.lang.IncompatibleClassChangeError

Has anyone ever seen this error? Can anyone offer any suggestions for
resolving this error.

Are you by chance using the Copy To New action to create the new
incident? If so, I would be suspect that there may be lingering data in
the change.

Have you taken a workflow log? If so, I would be glad to take a look at
it. Changing the operational categorizations to offline is allowable,
so I don't believe you did anything incorrectly.

offline. Something surely does not agree with the change I made

Slow response to a save is generally the cause of searches to the DB
before the save, that may or may be on a extremely large table and
possibly causing a table scan. I would check that.

Just out of curiosity, are your emails set to be deleted on being
processed on the server? I believe that could be one of the causes for
the email engine to process new emails slowly.

Have you identified that it is actually the notifications which are
slow?
Would also be worthwhile posting up what your architecture is?

Matt

 Thanks

Re: Plugins for vendor forms

2008-10-01 Thread Joe DeSouza
You are mixing up two issues here (at least from how I understand what you
described as your issue)..

Creating a vendor connection to an Oracle database is not done by installing
your AREA or ARDBC plug-ins. This could be done with the Croom product that you
have or any other plug-in or product specifically designed for that (For eg.
The BMC Atrium Integration Engine or the AIE formally known as EIE or
Enterprise Integration Engine). You CANNOT connect to Oracle using the default
ARDBC plugin that gets installed with the AR System.

The AREA plugin is specifically for authenticating to a LDAP source, and the
ARDBC plugin is specifically to retrieve data from an LDAP source.

So what are you trying to connect to using the ARDBC plugin?

It sounds sounds like you have a mapping difference (character to non
character field, ...). Try getting the free soapUI tool (
http://www.soapui.org ) and test if it has a problem pulling your data.
That will tell if it is something in the service itself or something in
your new Test form.

Re: Regarding Unicode database

2008-10-01 Thread Shellman, David
Joe,

Not quite right. The data may be stored in the database correctly. The
issue is the display of the data through the client. As Axton noted the
MidTier is the only true Unicode client. The desktop client is not
Unicode compliant and is dependent on the Locale setting in the client
and the Windows OS on the system that the client is installed.

I have imported the non unicode database to uncode supported database.
When i am checking from SQL prompt , the data is displaying in proper
format.
After upgrade of ARS when i am entering data from the midtier and when
search the records , the records are displaying in proper format.

When i am trying to search the records which i have imported on unicode
supported then the records are not displaying in the proper format.

My only problem is that imported data are not displaing in a proper way.

Please give your inputs on this.

This is a network error.. Try pinging the DB server with a continuous ping
(ping hostname -t), if this happens as frequently as 5 or 10 minutes, and
observe that at the time that error occurs your pings may fail too. If it
doesn't happen that frequently then pinging the DB server continuously may not

Re: Notifications Slow

2008-10-01 Thread Joe DeSouza
Since you are storing your notifier logs on your disk as files, have you
checked for available space on disk? If you are running out of it, that could
cause potential problems till the extent you might start getting miscellaneous
tli errors - failure to connect.. The client when it makes a connection to the
server has the server process information through temp files that are built on
the server side. These files on windows server are generated in the windows
temp directory and in the /tmp directory in UNIX. The files get deleted as soon
as the processing is completed.

If the server is running short on disk space, the process takes a while to find
available free space to create the file, and in due time when the disk fills
out cannot create this file at all resulting in the miscellanous tli errors..

Re: Regarding Unicode database

2008-10-01 Thread Joe DeSouza
I remember Axton's post regarding this..

I wasn't aware that the desktop client wasn't fully UTF-8 compliant until
that.. Well you learn a new thing everyday :-)

I am an English user so had assumed that when you selected the language options
on your client install, it would mean that it would install a build that
supported the reading of those foreign characters.

Joe,

Not quite right. The data may be stored in the
database correctly. The issue is the display of the data through the
client. As Axton noted the MidTier is the only true Unicode client.
The desktop client is not Unicode compliant and is dependent on the Locale
setting in the client and the Windows OS on the system that the client is
installed.

move customizations into production, and more importantly, to move
customizations from production back to development after I install an ITSM
patch that overwrites them, and again from development to production once I
apply that same patch on production. I had to do that complete process to
move from patch 006 to 007, and will do the same to get to 008. I would NOT
want to even attempt it without Migrator to identify changes and then help
 clean up afterwards.

 All,

I have an ITSM dev system that has modified the HPD:Help Desk form and I am
moving it to our QA system. Now at this point there is no data, so I thought
I could just export the HPD:Help Desk form from one system and import it to
 the other.

That worked, however when I try and open up the Incident Management Console
or the Incident form itself I get the ARERR 9861 error.

Both systems are licenses, any ideas?

Re: Regarding Unicode database

2008-10-01 Thread Shellman, David
During the install there are 2 places for language. The first sets the
language that the rest of the install will use. The second is used for
the text on the client menus.

Only know about the Locale and OS interaction because of testing in
China between Traditional and Simplified Chinese for by Helpdesks in
China and Taiwan.

We have also found out that care must be taken if fields display
and someone updates even a single field in the record using the desktop
client. What happens is the record is no longer readable in the
original language or English. The original characters, that are not
displaying correctly, are replaced in all the fields in the form and not
just the single field. It's a touchy situation that we have not figured
out how to trap with the desktop client. It was suggested that we
capture the LOCALE keyword of the original submitter. Testing found
that can often not be correct if it is not set within the desktop
client.

However the record can be updated by anyone using the MidTier and the
record will retain the mixture of the original language and what ever
language was used for the update.

SQL Delete - Slow on Import - Thoughts

2008-10-01 Thread Tanner, Doug
ARSLIST (DBA's?)

I have an issue after a recent hardware upgrade
(Application Server and MS SQL Server) where the system is running
extremely fast and acceptable, unless I run arimportcmd or arimport. It
does not matter what file or table I am selecting for the Import the
deciding factor is what option I use in the Import (See Below) ( I am

requirements I MUST use this option)

 Hi,

I looked through my event viewer and noticed that there are random times
 when I get the following.

390626 : Failure during SQL operation to the database (ARERR 552)
[DBNETLIB][ConnectionWrite (send()).]General network error. Check your
network documentation. (SQL Server 11) Then about 20 seconds later it
 connects.

No end user is noticing any downtime and I haven't experienced timeouts from
 AR user.
But this error in event viewer has me worried.

 ARS 7.1 patch 3
Just noticed Approval server is only 7.1 in SHARE:Applications ITSM 7.0.3
 patch 6 SLM 7.0.1 patch 4 SRM 2.1 Windows 2003 SQL 2000 SP4 (DB server is
 remote)

What are some steps I can do to pinpoint this issue?
I checked arerror and there is nothing that helps.  I just get the same
 message as the event viewer.
I checked sql logs and there is nothing there

 Thanks

Re: SQL Delete - Slow on Import - Thoughts

2008-10-01 Thread Joe DeSouza
It takes about 3 seconds to run this statement on your production box.
DELETE FROM T793 WHERE C1 = N'042433'

Is T793 a larger table on production than it is on development? That could be
the only reason why it takes 3 seconds to delete on production from T973 as
deletes are not immediately committed to the database, but written to the
transaction log in case of a rollback.

I have an issue after a recent
hardware upgrade (Application Server and MS SQL Server) where the system is
running extremely fast and acceptable, unless I run arimportcmd or arimport. It
does not matter what file or table I am selecting for the “Import”
the deciding factor is what option I use in the Import (See Below) ( I am
working with our DBA as well)

to data requirements I MUST
use this option)

No, there are no errors anywhere.

I can send multiple attachments that are not .pdf without a problem, but
these are contracts and must be .pdf and it appears (though not sure)
that may be the problem.

won't try to bring along something I don't want. I use it to move
customizations into production, and more importantly, to move customizations
from production back to development after I install an ITSM patch that
overwrites them, and again from development to production once I apply that
same patch on production. I had to do that complete process to move from patch
006 to 007, and will do the same to get to 008. I would NOT want to even
attempt it without Migrator to identify changes and then help clean up
afterwards.

All,

I have an ITSM dev system that has modified the HPD:Help Desk form and I am
moving it to our QA system. Now at this point there is no data, so I thought I
could just export the HPD:Help Desk form from one system and import it to the
other.

That worked, however when I try and open up the Incident Management Console or
the Incident form itself I get the ARERR 9861 error.

Both systems are licenses, any ideas?

Midtier 7.x opens blank (white) window

2008-10-01 Thread Mench, Ryan M (N-ISS)
Folks - I'm driving myself bonkers on this and would really appreciate
your feedback. I Have a form that opens in Midtier as a blank (white)
window. The workflow contains an active link that opens it in a submit
window. I recently upgraded from ARS 5.x to 7.01 and used the 7.x import
tool to migrate the tables. Actions in the client work as designed.

Environment:

WIN2K3

Oracle 9i

IE 6.0.3

ARS 7.01 patch 9

Midtier 7.01 patch 8

Tried earlier midtier 7.x and server versions

Tried Tomcat 5.5.17 (default) and upgraded to 6.0.18

JRE/JDK version 1_4_2_16 and upgraded to 1_5_0_16

Increased Java memory to various ranges

Cleared IE cache/flushed midtier cache

Resaved the form

Renamed the form to remove the :

Rebuilt the AL that fires the open window

Here is the funny thing (not funny ha-ha), copying the existing form to
a new form does work, however changes to workflow will be a substantial
effort and only want to do this as a last resort. I've also considered
beating my fists on the floor, but I would like to wait on that as well.

Yes, that is true. And then BMC and Turing modified their relationship.
This was done for various reasons and it is a more productive, positive
partnership. As Susan can attest, TSMI's Support group is still providing
support, with BMC's blessing.

I don't think so - that field in NTE:Notifier is not populated with a value if
the record is for a customer. All of our customers have Remedy Login Names,
and that is not a problem for notifications. Look at the workflow that is

That's assuming that BMC keeps their web site up to date better than they
used to, which was practically not at all. My former consulting company had
incorrect and missing data about them on BMC's partner site for years,
despite numerous requests to update it.

I would trust nothing short of an official announcement from either BMC or
Turing, which is up to them to decide whether to publish.

It takes about 3 seconds to run this statement on your production box.
DELETE FROM T793 WHERE C1 = N'042433'

Is T793 a larger table on production than it is on development? That could
be the only reason why it takes 3 seconds to delete on production from T973
as deletes are not immediately committed to the database, but written to the
transaction log in case of a rollback.

 Hi All-

I have had a new issue with my email engine brought to my attention:

A user will send an email with two small .pdf attachments to a mailbox.
The mailbox gets polled by Remedy and the two attachments are put in the AR
Email Attachment form, but the actual email never makes it in to the AR
Email Message form. On the AR Email Attachment Join form I can also find
the attachments and the ID number is a composite of an Email ID |
Attachment ID. The Attachment ID is correct, but the Email ID does not have
a record in the Message form.

I normally don't have any problem with attachments coming in with emails,
but these attachments are all .pdf files. Is there a known issue with those
types of documents that I am not aware of?

I just sent an email to the same address with two .doc attachments with no
 problem.

Re: SQL Delete - Slow on Import - Thoughts

2008-10-01 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
I also notice there must be some other setting difference between the 2
servers. The fast one has an OK response between each statement while
the slow one does not. Is there some other setting in the db that is
different?

I would suggest updating statistics on your prod server DB. It looks
like it may be a problem with the delete statement taking a bit of time
to find the record for delete from T793.

ARSLIST (DBA's?)

I have an issue after a recent hardware upgrade
(Application Server and MS SQL Server) where the system is running
extremely fast and acceptable, unless I run arimportcmd or arimport. It
does not matter what file or table I am selecting for the Import the

Re: change request error

2008-10-01 Thread Lisa Westerfield
The Filter: CHG:CRQ:ValidateServiceCat_218 checks the Service Catalog
to see if:

1. The Company exists = TRUE (You have a valid company)

2. The Categorizations match or are NULL = TRUE (Yours are null on
the Change request)

3. Status is Enabled = FALSE (You changed the status to
Offline)

RESULT: The Char01 field is set to NULL because No Requests Match

(( 'Company' = $Location Company$) OR ( 'Company' = - Global - )) AND
(( 'Categorization Tier 1' = $Categorization Tier 1$) OR (
$Categorization Tier 1$ = $NULL$ )) AND (( 'Categorization Tier 2' =
$Categorization Tier 2$) OR ( $Categorization Tier 2$ = $NULL$ )) AND
(( 'Categorization Tier 3' = $Categorization Tier 3$) OR (
$Categorization Tier 3$ = $NULL$ )) AND ( 'Status-CAT' = Enabled) AND
( 'Status-CTA' = Enabled) AND ( 'Change Management Selection' = Yes)
AND ( 'Infra Change Selection' = Yes)

The next Filter: CHG:CRQ:ValidateServiceCat_219 fires the error you are
seeing because the 'char01' field is NULL

SUMMARY: The error is firing correctly according to the workflow, so
what you would need to do is delete the relationships between the
company and the operational categorizations in the Application
Administration Console\Foundation\Products/Operational
Categorizations\Operational Catalog -OR- you could delete the
operational categorizations altogether. The first option is best of
course if you plan to use the categories any time in the future.

Let me know if you have any questions - Thanks,

LisaD

I'm wondering if anyone out there has experienced the same trouble...

I'm attempting to upgrade SLM 7.0 to 7.1 on AIX. No matter what we do
the installer fails. At first glance the error message indicates the
filesystem does not have enough space. We've thrown 10gigs at the /tmp
filesystem for installation purposes but no luck. Thus, filesystem
space is not the issue.

We've changed the BMC_SLM_JAVA_HOME variable from java 1.4 version to
the appropriate java 5 directory.

We are using Humming Bird's Exceed as the installer interface.

BTW...The installer was downloaded off BMC's website 9/30/08 with
support watching me to make sure I got the correct one.

BMC Support has been stumped on this one. Below you will find the

Thanks for the link. I have downloaded and installed the soupUi.

First indications are pointing to a possible configuration issue on our web
server (WebLogic Express 8.1.3). Just before getting the error below, we are
getting a 500 Internal Server Error. We are now trying to understand that
error.

Do you have any experience addressing internal web server errors?

It sounds sounds like you have a mapping difference (character to non character
field, ...). Try getting the free soapUI tool ( http://www.soapui.org ) and
test if it has a problem pulling your data. That will tell if it is something
in the service itself or something in your new Test form.

Subject: Web Service Error

Thanks

It
takes about 3 seconds to run this statement on your production box.
DELETE
FROM T793 WHERE C1 = N'042433'

Is T793 a larger table on production
than it is on development? That could be the only reason why it takes 3 seconds
to delete on production from T973 as deletes are not immediately committed to
the database, but written to the transaction log in case of a
rollback.

I have an issue after a recent hardware upgrade (Application Server and MS SQL

for the “Import” the deciding factor is what option I use in the Import (See

Not only do I have active support with TuringSMI and we happen to be working
on a nasty Audit issue currently, I just installed licenses Monday purchased
via TuringSMI. I am VERY pleased with their support.

My BMC Account rep was partnered in the transactions which included the
10/1/08 support renewal and the license purchases with TuringSMI.

It bothers me that someone is using this list for harmful purposes and
doesn't even identify who they are. If you have something to say be a man

say but you always know when it's me saying it.

Not on WebLogic unfortunately, we use Apache/Tomcat here. My first
thought would be that WebLogic is not handling the in the URL
correctly

Try the following ...
In soapUI when you have a request up, change the endpoint url (top of
the screen above the data).
Replace the  character in the url with amp;

i.e. xWebservice= changes to
xamp;Webservice=

Thanks for the link. I have downloaded and installed the soupUi.

First indications are pointing to a possible configuration issue on our
web server (WebLogic Express 8.1.3). Just before getting the error

understand that error.

Do you have any experience addressing internal web server errors?

It sounds sounds like you have a mapping difference (character to non
character field, ...). Try getting the free soapUI tool (
http://www.soapui.org ) and test if it has a problem pulling your data.
That will tell if it is something in the service itself or something in
your new Test form.

Re: Optional Categorization for Incident Management 7

2008-10-01 Thread Schon, Stuart
We made it mandatory for the first level of both operational and product
categorisation

After that if there is a lower menu for the selected upper value then we
force them to enter the lower menu value. The result is that some
selections only require the choice of O1 and P1, some choices O1 and O2
and some O1, O2 and O3; similarly for the product cats.

Regards

Stuart Schon

Ron

I tend to work on the basis that Categorisation completed on call submit
is for SLA attachment and/or Routing. In terms of reporting I always
argue that Resolution Categorisation provides more granular details as
of course at this point the issue has been diagnosed correctly.

Subject: Optional Categorization for Incident Management 7

**

We've been live on ITSM 7 for about a month, and I'm realizing we have
an Issue. Since the Categorizations on the Classification tab are
optional, the vast majority of folks creating new incidents are opting
out of making choices here. Probably two-thirds of the Incidents logged
last week have no categorization. This makes for very bad reporting. I
had assumed the OTB workflow would cause these to be required at some
point, but I'm discovering that's not the case.

So, I'm curious - how have other folks dealt with this issue?

Thanks,
Ron Legters

Re: Attachment pools

2008-10-01 Thread SYTANGCO,JENARO
Hi Ben,

Thanks for your reply. My question now is, how can I set the
attachments of the source record? I have tried the following logic
but did not work: I created a temporary field that stores the record ID
of the current record so that when user uses the Copy to New
functionality, an active link queries for the attachments of the record
and these values are set to the attachment fields of the new record.

I am thinking maybe I need to temporarily save to disk the files and
then attach them on copy to new, but how can I automate this process?

Thanks.

Trap the Copy To New with an Active Link and set what you like.

Hi All,

Good day!

For Copy to New, is there a way to also copy all attachments from
attachment pools of the source record to the new record?

Thanks.

Regards,
Jay
