I have no idea how many Congressman maybe 500? Bush didn't build the levees. Bush didn't build New Orleans. Bush didn't make the weather. Bush didn't cause the war. and what is a lesbien or a resevist? did you mean Lesbian and Reserve? I will blame my government for not being ready to deal with the after effects of this disaster known as Katrina. We all saw it coming for days.They knew the levees could not withstand a stage 4 or 5 hurricane. It was predicted to be a 5 when it hit land. Sonny boy reduced the funding to the levee work. We knew there would be damage after the storm and that help would be needed. The resources should have been standing by to go into the area after the storm had past. You don't call up the Nat. Guard 3 days later esp. since most are in Iraq fighting his war. We had supplies in the tsunami area quicker than in New Orleans.FEMA was always a top rate agency. Sorry to say that between sonny boy and Jersey Mickie, it no longer is top rate. I have been active in the political process my whole life. I vote early and often. I think you should take a look out the windows down there in New Orleans, looks to me like the black american is still oppressed. It's really sad that we see this on our TV's in 2005. I am praying for these helpless victims constantly. No human beings should be treated like this. History will be the ultimate judge, but how many tradgedies must be suffered before it's politically correct to raise the difficult questions? Tony, That's exactly the problem. We live in a period of time where Joe McCarthy II is in charge. He makes Nixon look like a saint. You simply CAN NOT have a reasonable argument that makes the president look wrong. This president is never wrong. He never hears from anyone that disagrees with him, fires those that do, and believes that stubbornness - even when wrong - is a good trait rather than to evolve and change your mind or perspective on things. I cannot believe that anybody else would have gotten away with changing the reasons a nation was led into war as many times as this president has done. This is one of the most difficult decisions a president has to make and he lied to us repeatedly over what our soldiers are dying for. But you've gotta give the administration credit. They've successfully branded anyone with a different opinion as unpatriotic and made a lot of good people keep their mouth shut for the past few years. I'm still waiting for someone to be brave enough and admit that we were wrong: 1 Saddam didn't have weapons. He was just king of the hill and wanted his nation to believe he had weapons to fear him. 2 We will have spent about TEN times the amount the president originally said this war in Iraq was going to cost by the time it's over (if ever) 3 We have done very, very little to protect homeland security since 9/11 - all you had to do is take a train or subway during the past 4 years to wonder when changes were going to happen 4 The border has been opened up during a period of time when we're supposed to be stopping terrorism. Why make it easier for them to come across into the US? 5 We have not only stretched our military forces thin but our reaching all-time lows as far as recruiting goes. Nobody wants to be sent to war forever. And yet, people are scared to discuss this. Folks, discussing this is NOT UNPATRIOTIC it is the opposite. It is the most patriotic thing we can do. Silence is what kills a nation. I have German blood running through my veins and I know that it was the silence that led that nation into ruin. Please then identify for me the equipment and humans the President is supposed to have at the ready to evacuate hundreds of thousands of people, spread across three states, who stayed behind to ride out a cat 4-5 hurricaine, which by the way put left 20 feet of water over 80% of a city. Is there some compound somewhere where a million guys are sitting around waiting with a billion dollars in rescue equipment? Is there any admistration in history who could have involuntarily moved all those poeple out who stayed? You just aren't considering the size of the task at hand. There was about a week to 10 days notice of this storm to the people in the South. Then for days people were told to evacuate. Then evacuations plans were put into effect and hundreds of thousands of people did go. You can't blame the President for the ones who stayed behind. Response after the storm was as good as it gets. You aren't going to put FEMA or Red Cross workers there before hand and make them victims of the storm too. They have to come in after and that is exactly what they did, and have been doing since the moment the storm passed over. Of the 43 Presidents this country has had, do you think any one of them had resources (both human and monetary) at the ready to ensure that no one got hurt in a category 4-5 hurricaine in the Gulf Coast? Surely you don't. Playing politics with the deaths of thousands of Americans would make me feel pretty awful. You should reflect on what you are saying. You know there is nothing any President could have done differently. Saddam violated 18 resoultions of the UN for not letting the WMD inspections take place. Under President Clinton, congress voted for the use of force to oust Saddam and appropriated money to do it. He is 64 and has a bad hip and foot. My sisters are in Houston, since last weekend. Sister lost everything! Although obviously he has no exact count, he estimates more than 10,000 people are packed into and around and outside the convention center still waiting for the buses. They had no food, no water, and no medicine for the last three days, until today, when the National Guard drove over the bridge above them, and tossed out supplies over the side crashing down to the ground below. Much of the supplies were destroyed from the drop. Many people tried to catch the supplies to protect them before they hit the ground. Some offered to walk all the way around up the bridge and bring the supplies down, but any attempt to approach the police or national guard resulted in weapons being aimed at them.There are many infants and elderly people among them, as well as many people who were injured jumping out of windows to escape flood water and the like -- all of them in dire straights. Any attempt to flag down police results in being told to get away at gunpoint. Hour after hour they watch buses pass by filled with people from other areas. Tensions are very high, and there has been at least one murder and several fights. 8 or 9 dead people have been stored in a freezer in the area, and 2 of these dead people are kids. The people are so desperate that they're doing anything they can think of to impress the authorities enough to bring some buses. These things include standing in single file lines with the eldery in front, women and children next; sweeping up the area and cleaning the windows and anything else that would show the people are not barbarians.The buses never stop.Before the supplies were pitched off the bridge today, people had to break into buildings in the area to try to find food and water for their families. There was not enough. This spurred many families to break into cars to try to escape the city. There was no police response to the auto thefts until the mob reached the rich area -- Saulet Condos -- once they tried to get cars from there... well then the whole swat teams began showing up with rifles pointed. National Guard shoving water off the backs of trucks. They're just pushing it off without stopping, people don't even know it's there at first -- they drop it on the side in debris, there's no sign or distribution point -- people are scared to go near it at first, because the drop points are guarded by troops or federal agents with assault rifles who don't let people come near them, which scares people off. It is a mess. The news is reporting that two giant oil tanks capable of holding 160,000 barrels of oil are spilling into the Mississippi right now. Pictures show a giant oil slick. Here is his story as told to me moments ago. I took notes while he talked and then I asked some questions: Three days ago, police and national guard troops told citizens to head toward the Crescent City Connection Bridge to await transportation out of the area. The citizens trekked over to the Convention Center and waited for the buses which they were told would take them to Houston or Alabama or somewhere else, out of this area. It's been 3 days, and the buses have yet to appear. Although obviously he has no exact count, he estimates more than 10,000 people are packed into and around and outside the convention center still waiting for the buses. They had no food, no water, and no medicine for the last three days, until today, when the National Guard drove over the bridge above them, and tossed out supplies over the side crashing down to the ground below. Much of the supplies were destroyed from the drop. Many people tried to catch the supplies to protect them before they hit the ground. Some offered to walk all the way around up the bridge and bring the supplies down, but any attempt to approach the police or national guard resulted in weapons being aimed at them. There are many infants and elderly people among them, as well as many people who were injured jumping out of windows to escape flood water and the like -- all of them in dire straights. Any attempt to flag down police results in being told to get away at gunpoint. Hour after hour they watch buses pass by filled with people from other areas. Tensions are very high, and there has been at least one murder and several fights. 8 or 9 dead people have been stored in a freezer in the area, and 2 of these dead people are kids. The people are so desperate that they're doing anything they can think of to impress the authorities enough to bring some buses. These things include standing in single file lines with the eldery in front, women and children next; sweeping up the area and cleaning the windows and anything else that would show the people are not barbarians. The buses never stop. Before the supplies were pitched off the bridge today, people had to break into buildings in the area to try to find food and water for their families. There was not enough. Actually I'll be the first to admit that so called communism as you describe the Russians and stuff is far from the original idea of communism as I perceive it. And I'll admit to being a Bellamist. That is, I think the writing of Edward Bellamy would lead to a better society or even a Utopian society. And I'm well aware that some of the aspects are based on communism. They just don't deal with the guns or military aspects of communism that have dominated places like Russia, Cuba or China. Personally, I think they have butchered the idea of communism in the same way the Taliban has butchered the idea of Muslim religion; however, the president always points out that not all Muslims believe that way. Somehow people think all communists think the same way -the Russian way. I'd like to believe that the communes of the '60s were a more representative manner of communism. For those of you that are very religious, I ask you what is more God-like? The idea of everyone helping one another and sharing resources together or capitalism where everyone is out for themselves? Do you need help finding them? I once lost my car in a Sears parking lot. Man, was that a drag. Also, any idea where all our national guard soldiers are? We could really use them right now for the type of thing they signed up to do like helping with national disasters. How come they weren't there to begin with? Last Thursday I was in south Florida and sat outside while the eye of Hurricane Katrina passed over my head. It was only a Category 1 then but it was pretty nasty. Eleven people died and, as of today, there were still homes without power. That night the weatherman said this storm was on its way to New Orleans. That was Thursday! Did anybody tell you? I know you didn't want to interrupt your vacation and I know how you don't like to get bad news. Plus, you had fundraisers to go to and mothers of dead soldiers to ignore and smear. You sure showed her! I especially like how, the day after the hurricane, instead of flying to Louisiana, you flew to San Diego to party with your business peeps. Don't let people criticize you for this -- after all, the hurricane was over and what the heck could you do, put your finger in the dike? And don't listen to those who, in the coming days, will reveal how you specifically reduced the Army Corps of Engineers' budget for New Orleans this summer for the third year in a row. You just tell them that even if you hadn't cut the money to fix those levees, there weren't going to be any Army engineers to fix them anyway because you had a much more important construction job for them -- BUILDING DEMOCRACY IN IRAQ! On Day 3, when you finally left your vacation home, I have to say I was moved by how you had your Air Force One pilot descend from the clouds as you flew over New Orleans so you could catch a quick look of the disaster. Hey, I know you couldn't stop and grab a bullhorn and stand on some rubble and act like a commander in chief. Been there done that. There will be those who will try to politicize this tragedy and try to use it against you. Just have your people keep pointing that out. Respond to nothing. Even those pesky scientists who predicted this would happen because the water in the Gulf of Mexico is getting hotter and hotter making a storm like this inevitable. Ignore them and all their global warming Chicken Littles. There is nothing unusual about a hurricane that was so wide it would be like having one F-4 tornado that stretched from New York to Cleveland. No, Mr. Bush, you just stay the course. It's not your fault that 30 percent of New Orleans lives in poverty or that tens of thousands had no transportation to get out of town. C'mon, they're black! I mean, it's not like this happened to Kennebunkport. Can you imagine leaving white people on their roofs for five days? Don't make me laugh! Race has nothing -- NOTHING -- to do with this!
