IP routing on subinterfaces [7:15978]

2001-08-14 Thread Nathan DuCray

Hello, I have a quick question.

I have one 1602 router with one ethernet connection. I would like to set it
up using subinterfaces to route my home network over two different ethernet
connections to the internet. (One DSL line and one Cable modem).

Is this possible? I tried setting it up as you would think, but when I tried
defining the subinterfaces it gave me some error about 802.10 and vLANs...
WHat should I do here.

Nathan, CCNA

CL configuration examples, of the CD for the lab exam?

Good to know, I spoke with one of the recent test takers and he swears

2001-08-14 Thread Symon Thurlow

I insert a small logo for each of my certifications to the top of my
cv. It doesn't take up much space (and yes there is more than 1 :) ),
and it sets your cv apart from others. I have only ever had feedback
from one agency, who said the liked it, but that doesn't mean that 20
others didn't like it.

Mind you, i'm employed.

I have never been asked for evidence of certs, has anyone else?

RE: linux client not able to connect to VPN Concentrator 3000 [7:15982]

2001-08-14 Thread James Willard

As far as I know, The VPN3000 box doesn't support PPtP clients. However, if
you have CCO access then you'll be pleased to know that the unified VPN
client version 3.0.8 has appeared for Linux under the Software Center
section.

RE: High FCS errors on cat5505 [7:15885]

2001-08-14 Thread Ross McCormick

In addition to Thomas's comment's, if you are not using auto-negotiation on
a switch connected to a Sun NIC, the Sun NIC will default to only detecting
the speed - duplex will be set to half.

If you want to manually set the speed and duplex on a Sun NIC, check out
Sun's website for the required changes - they are fairly minor if you're
familiar with SunOS/Solaris but requires (AFAIK) the Sun box to be restarted.

Also check Cisco's Troubleshooting Cisco Catalyst Switches to Network
Interface Card (NIC) Compatibility Issues page at
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/473/46.html

Hello. I'm experiencing huge amounts of fcs errors on my switch.
 3/1 91521 fcs errors
 3/2 28078 fcs errors
These counters were cleared Friday. I understand that these
 errors are
usually media related. I've swapped cables so far which has not
 seemed to
help. I can tell you there is a sun e450 and e250 attached to
 these ports.
Do you know of any interoperability issues with the cat 5505
 and sun NICS?

 Thanks In Advance,

On Cisco Press's web site they are offering a CCNP Certification boxed
set.
At the bottom under similiar titles listed are individual books like
Cisco

etc. Does the books in the new Certification boxed set take the place of
the
older books or do these supplement them?

 Thanks,

Re: please i need support [7:15990]

2001-08-14 Thread Patrick Donlon

There are two methods which I have used, first is Cisco Voice Manager which
is very buggy in the older versions I used and on the most recent which came
with Cisco Works 2000 it seemed that the TAC were having difficulty
supporting us because of third part reporting tools which it came with.

The other method is to use a Radius server, every call will send start-stop
records to the radius server. The hard bit is cleaning up the data and then
using some sort of reporting tools to examine the records.

The first method is probably quicker to get some reports up and running but
the last method is more likely to produce tailed reports which suite your
needs.

Pat

RE: PIX static map question [7:15983]

2001-08-14 Thread Evans, TJ

Assuming you have a static statement for each server, *that part* is
correct.
However - the conduit lines will need a port# ... web tcp/80 ... smtp/pop
25/110.
Conduit permit tcp host __extIPaddress__ eq __port#__ any
External address of each server
Port# for service

Also - make sure the server(s) has(have) been patched, etc ...
... another note - I am sure someone will mention that you should use ACL's
instead of conduits as they are being deprecated ...

not really related - but directions for blocking code-red propagation
attempts on routers:

PIX with Msproxy !!! [7:16003]

2001-08-14 Thread Raees Ahmed Shaikh

Hi all,

Just a question about pix, If anybody has implemented Pix in a Microsoft NT
based network. Using MS proxy for authentication authorization and
accounting.

I am just asking if it is possible to use a proxy server on the DMZ of the
firewall, and allow all internal users to use the proxy for browsing, ftp
etc. This proxy will be a member server of the internal NT network. This
member server should use the NT Domain database for authentication and
control. Which ports should be opened from the DMZ to the internal network
so that the Microsoft RPC traffic should be able to flow and the users
across the Pix firewall get authenticated through the proxy server.

Thanks in Advance,

Internet---PIX-DMZ( MS proxy Server)

Totally disagree,

I'm finding that it's not just a vendor specific field, it's
technology, that you focus on, because regardless
of the vendor, there is only so many ways you can implement technology.
Don't just learn the vendor, learn the methodology of the technology that it

RE: question [7:16005]

2001-08-14 Thread Mark Monica Baker

As far as WAN goes, anything above DS3 is typically fiber (or wireless in
some cases). Copper CAN support much higher speeds (at least in a LAN
environment), including GigE (and, I wouldn't be surprised, 10GigE when it
comes out). DS3 is coax (copper) or fiber.

Question that has been killing me...

On IOS versions after 12.0, the command #show ip bgp summary gives the

BGP table version is 174, main routing table version 174

The thing that is killing me is the line BGP activity 173/1013 prefixes,
205/190 paths, scan interval 15 secs. What exactly do these fields
indicate? I do not think that they are send/receive on the BGP activity
because the fields are populated on a router which I cleared the BGP
process
and the session never left Active state, so no routes were sent/received.
As for the scan interval, I think it has something to do with the BGP
command #bgp scan-time , but I am not sure what changes in this field will
 do? Any help please!?!?

 Thanks!

OT: Mail Relay prevention. [7:16013]

2001-08-14 Thread Ryan Ngai Hon Kong

Sorry this is a little bit off the topic.
Just wish to know if anybody out there knows an appliance/boxes
(independent)
which could prevent anonymous users to use the mail server to relay their
mails.
This by all mean regardless what OS/Mail server is running, this device is
capable
to intercept front line before the mail actually reach the mail server.

So far my finding said that the TrendMicro interscan with e-manager are able
to do
it (not publicity announced, but through the engineer). It is basically an
option
to allow only the domain within the company to send out the mail.

Any idea/comment are appreciated.

Re: passed Foundation 640-509.... [7:16006]

2001-08-14 Thread Donald B Johnson jr

Big mistake George, well that depends on what you mean by a long break. I
made a huge mistake by taking a long break. I got my CCN/DP on 12/27/00,
left BSCN for last so they both fell on the same day. I convinced myself
that a little break was in order, so I didn't crack a book until July. It
has been a long hard road back to be able to pass the written. You really
forget all those little test tid-bits that are so relevant in every day
operation. I feel that with two or three weeks of study I could have passed
the written if I would of kept the momentum going in Dec. The only redeeming
fact from this situation is that I didn't stop labbing out everyday so I
will take the lab 6-8 months after passing the written. But it has been a
long battle putting all those facts back in my head. So if you are going to
pursue your CCIE after obtaining your CCN/DP you may want to get your
written before taking a break. Even if you don't want to take the written
right away because of the passed Written Must attempt Lab timing thing you
should still read so that the information stays current. Ahh I'm rambling!!!

Redundent routers and NAT really don't mix. Remember NAT keeps a state

it will be dropped because there is no state on that router. The PFC's
don't keep NAT information as part of the XTAG entries.

Workaround.. Use the Native IOS so each MSFC act as one. No load

between priority in groups. However, beside NAT, I also have EIGRP

EIGRP does load balancing on both cards, is there a workaround for this?

Also, let say I have Vlan 10 as the outside NAT interfaces on both

 but
  they are on different group?

Thanks All in advance! I really need your help here, since whoever

Correct, but if you use secondary ip addresses and a different group
  number
   you can.

If the original poster wanted 2 HSRP groups where one group was active
 on
RouterA on netA and the other was active on RouterB on netB - both
 groups
would co-exist and not bother each other.

If RouterA failed then RouterB would become active on netB as well as
   already active on netA.

The opposite holds true of course.

This is also helpful in trying to load balance HSRP by splitting the
 user
community manually, half to RouterA and half to RouterB - and maintain
  fault
   tolerance.

I don't quite understand what your asking, but...

IOS will not let you configure the same HSRP/standby
address or IP subnet on multiple LAN interfaces. You
would have to use a different IP subnet on each
Ethernet interface with a HSRP/standby address in that
subnet.

Were you asking that or ?

Could you share your experience with us. What you covered, training
methodolgy equipment used, classes taken, things like that. Things that were
useful along, wastes of time. Of course with the NDA in mind. Not what was
on the test but what you did before you opened the door to the Lab center.

 Hello all,

I would like to thank the people who have contributed to the list, I have
used the list for probably two plus years.
I passed my CCIE Lab on Friday and really appreciate all the help over the
 years.
Thanks to all who have made this list great.

Re: Resume [7:15949]

2001-08-14 Thread Guy Russell

I have never been asked to prove my certs...

That is what technical interviews are for...

And I never put logis on resumes.. My resumes are on plain white paper, with
no frills...just alot of information.

Besides, most people in this business know that tech skills are easy to come
by... Anyone with knowledge of systems, should be able to get almost any job
done with a little research. So get your certs, if they ask you a question
in the technical interview you do not know, tell them... Dont BS it, tell
them you are not sure exactly, but you can find out. Write down what they
ask you. get their email...

After the tech interview, send them a thank you email, and include the
solutions to questions you could not answer during that interview.. You
might be surprised how well that works!!!

NO one knows everything... You might be surprised how many people here
answer questions after they look it up for you... Your best skill will be
that ability to search through information for the answer...

I do not think you need to do that. As long as is is visible on your

the HR people will trust that you have the certifications. I have been
asked
to bring in my actual certificates on 1 occasion. HR people have to go
trough a lot of paperwork as is, so I think it might be a good idea to

2524 and 2501 back to back [7:16028]

2001-08-14 Thread Charles Ryan

Hello group,

Sorry if this has been covered before, I've checked the archives and I can't
seem to find anything relevant to my question.

I have a 2524 with a built in FT1/T1 csu-dsu module, and I wish to connect
it back to back with a 2501 (DB-60 on the serial port).

I'm trying to figure out how I could go about doing it without having to
attempt to find a 5-in-1 serial module for the 2524. Do I need to get
another csu/dsu for the 2501 and then connect them together that way (with
the RJ-45 cable from the 2524 going into the other csu/dsu, then the
V.35/DB-60 going into the 2501 serial port)?

Sorry for the basic question, if anyone out there has done this, I would
greatly appreciate hearing from you. Appreciate any and all help with this,
links, etc. are also greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

-Chuck

in addition to the NBAR links that have been provided, you may also want to
look into fltering of the output of code red machines.

over on the NANOG group there has been extensive discussion of code red and
various actions to take.

Re: show ip bgp summary [7:15938]

2001-08-14 Thread Peter Van Oene

I believe scan time pertains to the frequency that a PE router queries a
VPNv4 route reflector to ensure that it has a complete routing picture for
its configured VPN's. This is 2547bis functionality. However, to me, this
requires support of outbound route filtering (ORF) and I'm not sure if Cisco
has it yet. I should look this up :)

As for the scan interval, I think it has something to do with the BGP
command #bgp scan-time , but I am not sure what changes in this field
will
 do? Any help please!?!?

 Thanks!

Designing FR for 3 branches [7:16030]

2001-08-14 Thread Ole Drews Jensen

Good morning,

I have now passed several Cisco exams, and are in a lucky situation where I
have to establish Frame Relay connections between our main office and three
of our branch offices.

It will not be fully meshed, but a PVC between the main office and each
branch office.

Since I've come accross much of this during my studies, I would like to show
you my draft, and hope that some of you will throw some comments back to me,
whether or not it's a good design or a bad design.

Our branch offices each have a branch code, and the three branch offices I
am connecting has 1, 7 and 8.

I have planned on buying a 2610 with a WIC-1DSU-T1= for the main office, and
1720's with WIC-1DSU-T1='s for the branches. The main office will be 768/384
(bw/cir) and the branches 256/128.

My LAN at the main office is 10.0.0.0 / 8 (total overkill, but that's how it
was, and that has been fine with me so far).

If we take branch office 1, the setup I have drafted looks like this:

2610- Ethernet 0: 10.1.1.9 / 8
2610- Serial 0.1: 172.16.1.1 / 30
1720- Serial 0 : 172.16.1.2 / 30
1720- FastEthernet 0: 172.16.1.129 / 25

### QUESTION 1 ###

Would this be the best way of using VLSM for hierarchical design?

##

Next, I would like to match the branch office number with as much as
possible, so my idea was to skip subinterface 0.2 thru 0.6 on the 2610, so
the next branch office setup would look like this:

2610- Ethernet 0: 10.1.1.9 / 8
2610- Serial 0.7: 172.16.7.1 / 30
1720- Serial 0 : 172.16.7.2 / 30
1720- FastEthernet 0: 172.16.7.129 / 25

### QUESTION 2 ###

Would that be a good idea, and if no - then why not?

##

At last, I would like to see if I can match the DLCI also, but I think that
I recall 16 being the lowest number to use (is that correct?).

Therefore, the branch office connections would have DLCI 1, 7 and 8 or 21,
27 and 28 if 16 is the lowest.

### QUESTION 3 ###

Is this a good idea, and if no - then why not?

##

I appreciate any comments on this, and hope that you can help me learn the
no-so-much-documented areas of study guides, so I can design this Frame
Relay the right way from the beginning.

Thanks in advance,

Ole

You don't need the first conduit statement. The conduit with the outside
address is enough.
Not really my concern, but that's opening up all TCP ports to that machine.
Might be better to tighten it up a little, or a lot.

Large very large networks procotols? [7:16039]

If asked to select a routing protocol for various venders routers in a
large network, we would answer OSPF, but have concerns about the

same question, but in a very large network whats the answer? And whats
a very large network as compared to a large network? I realize, if you
start seeing different autonomous systems youre getting there, but
where do we draw the line? If we are designing a network from scratch
when do we say, lets make different autonomous systems? When area 0 gets
to 50 routers?

I think you are going down the right track. I always try to have a
coalition between my DLCI and my IP. We have a good sized frame network
and man does it help do be able to say Oh, location 1 is DLCI 101 with
Wan IP x.x.x.x This type planning will also help out when you grow and
try to track it all.

I use /30 on all my wan connections but I also figure out hw many nodes
on each locating then provision 10-20% over that depending on the
locations potential. Seems to work great for me.

I think you are going down the right track. I always try to have a coalition
between my DLCI and my IP. We have a good sized frame network and man does
it help do be able to say Oh, location 1 is DLCI 101 with Wan IP x.x.x.x
This type planning will also help out when you grow and try to track it all.

I use /30 on all my wan connections but I also figure out hw many nodes on
each locating then provision 10-20% over that depending on the locations
potential. Seems to work great for me.

Subject: Designing FR for 3 branches [7:16030]

Ole

Cisco research skills are as important as configuration and design skills
and almost as challenging. When you find something that someone else
couldn't find, please tell us how you did it. Page-by-page navigation
instructions are very helpful because they help us learn the structure of
the documentation.

Your Cisco career will die if you don't get good at finding stuff in the
documentation, and the only way to get good at this is to spend time with
it. Here's where I like to start:

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/index.htm

Regarding the search engine, the best advice is not to depend on it too
much. It is not very effective. It's much better to know where to look in
the documentation. Also, take some time to learn the search engine's
caveats for those times when you really want to use it.

For example, the Cisco search engine automatically adds and between the
words you enter so it only returns those pages that include all of your
search terms. To restrict a search further, just include more terms.

The search engine does not support the logical or operator. It only
returns pages that contain all the terms.

You can search for phrases by adding quotation marks. Words enclosed in
double quotes (like this) will appear together in all returned documents.

Searches are not case sensitive. All letters, regardless of how you type
them, will be understood as lower case. I discovered this the hard way. I
did a search on SAID. Big mistake. ;-) But then I changed it to SAID VLAN
and that was more effective.

There's more info on the search engine here:

Im not an expert just a cisco hack with a couple configs under my belt. I
added another subnet to our network and set IP address to ethernet3/1 and a

fine, and can access resources (those not needing domain authorization) by
IP but not by name, so therefore it will also not see the domain or browse
the network. The new subnet also has no problm acessing the intenet via the
T1 on the router.
Any ideas would be nice

RE: ccna question [7:15958]

2001-08-14 Thread Priscilla Oppenheimer

70/30? Who made that one up!?! ;-)

There's no exact number of course, but folk wisdom was always 80/20. 80% of
traffic stays local and 20% goes to a different part of the network. This
really got blown out of the water in the last 4-5 years because of
Intranets with corporate servers located centrally in server farms, a huge
amount of traffic heading out the door to the Internet, VPN and
remote-access traffic flowing back in the other way, a lot of AppleTalk and
Novell departmental servers being outlawed, etc. Some people have gone so
far as to say the equation has switched. 20% is local now and 80% is
non-local.

You would have to check traffic flows and volume on your own network for a
number you could really use. I have never seen 70/30. Is that really what
Cisco expects you to learn now? And which do they say is local and which is
non-local?

Priscilla

At 12:42 AM 8/14/01, you wrote:
is that 80 local 20 non-local? with Cisco revising the number to 70 local
and 30 non-local?

I refer to Priscilla Oppenheimer's Top Down Network Design ( don't argue
design without it :- ) pp 20-21, the CID book written by Robert Padjen, pp
26-27, and Howard Berkowitz's Designing routing and Switching Architecture
  wow! ), pages 35 and 575.

Yes by all means learn the Cisco answer for the tests. Just remember that
Cisco tests in certain respects are not particularly reflective of the real
world, as at least three eminent real world experts indicate.

much as I hate to pass this one, because every response will hit the

question and that you were entitled to an answer.

80/20 or 70/30 what?

are you referring to the old 80 percent of your LAN traffic should be
local, and 20 percent should be non-local rule of good design?

I haven't seen the recent Cisco study materials, but from other reading, I
believe that current theory is that you can't go by this rule any longer.
Internet access, shared services, centralized server farms, intranets, all
have kinda blown all this local traffic versus non-local traffic percentages
by the wayside.

to transform a phrase of Brian Eno's - the one Scott McNealy probably stole.
I know I sure did - the world is now the LAN.

Chuck

Eno: the recording studio is my synthesizer ( circa 1980 )
McNealy: the network is the computer ( circa 1996 )
Me: the telco network is the central office ( circa 1990 )

Re: Large very large networks procotols? [7:16039]

2001-08-14 Thread Peter Van Oene

This is really the domain of text books on network design and short bursts
of text aren't likely to do the question any justice. As with similar
questions like how many routers in an OSPF area this question yields a
variety of answers depending on the desired functionality and related
composition and topology of the network. Further, other non technical
items including geography and operations support also play a role here.

The decision to add hierarchy to a network is not exclusively driven by the
need to reduce CPU load on routers. I would suggest this to be the
exception, not the rule. For what its worth, I've seen thousands of routers
deployed in multi area OSPF domains and over a thousand routers in single
ISIS areas. I've also seen very small networks that found relevance in BGP
confederations and thus ran multiple IGP domains.

a very large network as compared to a large network? I realize, if you
start seeing different autonomous systems youre getting there, but
where do we draw the line? If we are designing a network from scratch
when do we say, lets make different autonomous systems? When area 0 gets

2001-08-14 Thread John Neiberger

I'm not sure this works on ATM interfaces in your environment, but on
serial interfaces I've been having wonderful results with CBWFQ/LLQ.
This allows you to define multiple classes of traffic and treat them
each differently. In our case, I use a strict priority queue for video
or voice traffic up to a bandwidth limit that I define, and all other
default traffic uses WFQ with WRED.

This works great for us, your mileage may vary.

John

Cisco 7206VXR [7:16054]

I've got a Cisco 7206VXR running IOS Version 12.0(10)S. It has a couple of

collisions on the interfaces of the router and alot of collisions and runts

ports are set to 10Mbs/half-duplex as they should be. I've been trying to
check the duplex setting on the router interfaces and I can't find a command
that allows me to see that. I've tried using the duplex command in the
interface configuration mode, but that is not understood. Am I correct in
thinking the duplex setting is set to half by default?

 Hello group,

Sorry if this has been covered before, I've checked the archives and I
can't
seem to find anything relevant to my question.

Do I need to get
another csu/dsu for the 2501 and then connect them together that way (with
the RJ-45 cable from the 2524 going into the other csu/dsu, then the
V.35/DB-60 going into the 2501 serial port)?

yes. You'll need a T-1 rollover cable with RJ-45 connectors on both sides
for the CSU/CSU connection that looks like this

1 -- 4
2 -- 5
4 -- 1
5 -- 2

pin orientation is with the RJ-45 tab-side down, connector pointing away
from you, pin 1 on the top left

Sorry for the basic question, if anyone out there has done this, I would
greatly appreciate hearing from you. Appreciate any and all help with
this,
links, etc. are also greatly appreciated.

 Thanks!

Every one of them said the school was horrible.

I can vouge for www.intenseschool.com I
attended their CCNA/CCDA camp and also their CCNP camp. I came out of it
with all of the certifications I wanted. Their program is cool because the
class, training material, hotel, and dinner were taken care of as the total
package (at least at the ones I attended). The CCNP camp will beat on you
mentally but I figure that is the reason why I was there. They don't teach
towards the test, but teach you to understand hands on, which will help you
pass the test. Now I have a new job that pays well because of these
certifications. Now I'm well on my way to getting my CCIE. No I'm not

Words enclosed in
double quotes (like this) will appear together in all returned
documents.

Searches are not case sensitive. All letters, regardless of how you type
them, will be understood as lower case. I discovered this the hard way. I
did a search on SAID. Big mistake. ;-) But then I changed it to SAID VLAN
 and that was more effective.

There's more info on the search engine here:

 http://www.cisco.com/public/extra_search_help.html

Bri - that sounds good to me! :-) although I find that most people
1. just don't know WHAT to search for... searching on CCO is
an art that
evolves using practice, practice, practice, and weeding out
the worthless
hits
2. don't know how to find what they searched for in the
webpages presented

for those who are CCIE bound, it's an imperative to know the
basics of the
IOS documentation layout on the CD ROM. Otherwise, the
search engine brings
up way too much information to be sifted through during the Lab.

I suggest a new rule for the list. If I don't know the
answer, goto CCO
to
search and get the answer easily, about a topic I know very
little about,
then I perhaps shouldn't post the results of my arduous search.

Here is a brief list of some of the important processes for me along my
journey

  * I passed the Written in January 2001.
  * I took one week long class ANEWII back in May 2001. (Very Good, thanks
Steve McQuerry)
  * I read the All in One study Guide, not bad has about 82 basic labs.
  * I read the CCIE Lab Practice Kit (6 Case Studies) Long scenarios, not
all
current (AppleTalk, Decnet)
  * I spent a week at the University of Pittsburgh, in their CCIE Lab.
Pretty good, however they don't give you the answers to their labs.

  * I spent 3 days in my local Cisco office on their CCIE rack, not as
beneficial as I had hoped.
  * I have some test equipment at work, 4 2500's, 2 2600's, took all the
equipment home and spent countless hours practicing.

  * About 3 weeks before my exam, I purchased the IPExpert Workbook, along
with about (6) 12 hour blocks over the course of three weeks.

That's it in a very small nutshell...

Good luck to each of you, I do believe it is a very worthwhile goal...

Internet access, shared services, centralized server farms, intranets, all
have kinda blown all this local traffic versus non-local traffic
percentages
by the wayside.

to transform a phrase of Brian Eno's - the one Scott McNealy probably
stole.
I know I sure did - the world is now the LAN.

McNealy: the network is the computer ( circa 1996 )

added another subnet to our network and set IP address to ethernet3/1 and
a
couple access list entries. The problem is I can ping across the subnets
fine, and can access resources (those not needing domain authorization) by
IP but not by name, so therefore it will also not see the domain or browse
the network. The new subnet also has no problm acessing the intenet via
the

 Any ideas would be nice

Regular expressions - BGP AS Path filtering [7:16068]

2001-08-14 Thread Bill Carter

I'm having trouble with this AS-Path situation. I have 2 routers (A and B)
running iBGP to each other.

Each router has a single eBGP connection to a different service provider.

ISP-AISP-B
| |
A---B

From ISP A I am receiving partial routes, basically network within its AS.

From ISP B I am receiving full internet routes.

Here is the problem: The partial routes from ISP A are summarized, and the
routes from ISP may not be summarized. So my router A has an entry for
12.0.0.0/8 and the AS path has 1 entry. Router B
receives the 12.0.0.0/8 through iBGP and also more specific routes from
ISP-B (12.20.1.0/24, 12.96.0.0/16). In router B the 12.X.X.X BGP entries
have the ISP-A AS# as the first entry in the AS-Path.

Router B, because of the longest match rule, prefers the Router B--ISP B
path for the more specific networks.

I would like to use IP as-path filters to filter incoming updates from ISP-B
so not to learn networks originating from ISP-A AS#.

What is the regular expression to do this??
ip as-path access-list 20 deny ?? ^as#_ _as#$

From sho ip bgp
  Network Next Hop
*  12.0.0.0A.A.A.A NEIGHBOR
* 12.0.48.0/20 B.B.B.B NEIGHBOR
* 12.0.252.0/23B.B.B.B NEIGHBOR

2001-08-14 Thread Erik Groves

I checked all over Cisco's web site, and in the list of fields for show ip
bgp summary ,they do not list the value in those three. I have tried to
use the bgp scan-time , but changing this on both peers does not change
the value in show ip bgp summary. In RFC 2547bis, it talks a bit about
synching the routes in the VRF to the routing table. Not sure if this is
what the Scan Interval is.

I am helping someone to code an OS, and want to make the output of the
command look similar to Cisco's. It is crazy that I can not find any
documentation which says what BGP Activity (Prefixes, Paths) and Scan Time.

  I can vouge for www.intenseschool.com I
attended their CCNA/CCDA camp and also their CCNP camp. I came out of it
with all of the certifications I wanted. Their program is cool because
the
class, training material, hotel, and dinner were taken care of as the
total
package (at least at the ones I attended). The CCNP camp will beat on you
mentally but I figure that is the reason why I was there. They don't
teach
towards the test, but teach you to understand hands on, which will help
you
pass the test. Now I have a new job that pays well because of these
certifications. Now I'm well on my way to getting my CCIE. No I'm not
advertising for them but I had a great experience and I owe everyone ar
  www.intenseschool.com a lot.

Re: Cisco 7206VXR [7:16054]

2001-08-14 Thread James Haynes

The interfaces in question on the router are 10Mb Ethernet, not 100Mb
FastEthernet. The router will not accept the command full-duplex in
interface configuration mode. I have used the commands half / full-duplex
on other routers, but it doesn't appear to be working on this one.

 The command is full-duplex

Also, you'll need to set your 3548 to 100/full not 10/half.

 That should fix your problem.

I've got a Cisco 7206VXR running IOS Version 12.0(10)S. It has a couple
 of
Ethernet interfaces connected to a Cisco 3548XL switch. I've seen alot
 of
collisions on the interfaces of the router and alot of collisions and
 runts
on the ports of the switch they are connected to. The first thing I
 thought
of was duplex or speed mismatch. I checked the switches settings and
 both
ports are set to 10Mbs/half-duplex as they should be. I've been trying
 to
check the duplex setting on the router interfaces and I can't find a
 command
that allows me to see that. I've tried using the duplex command in the
interface configuration mode, but that is not understood. Am I correct
 in
thinking the duplex setting is set to half by default?

 Hi everyone.

I would like to know who can provide good reliable datacenter service in
NY
 city metro area.

Basically, company that I am working for is looking for a datacenter which
we can use it as pickup point for data feed from NYSE and CME (chicago
Merchant Exchange ?) and reroute those data to overseas.

Since I am a novice on this type of project, any info will be appreciated.

I heard that Exodus is one of the excellent datacenter provider in my
area.
I wish to know if anyone has more detailed info.

 Thank you very much.

Depending upon the router platform you can use NBAR.

I am just really depressed right now because there are costumers getting
involved in our business. I knew I wasn't the only one who liked to get
dressed up but now think of the pressure that there will be with

how I can deny any traffic related to CODE RED on my router?

Re: Regular expressions - BGP AS Path filtering [7:16068]

2001-08-14 Thread Ed Horley

Bill,
For what you are asking you can try something like the following:

router bgp
 no sync
 network w.x.y.z (your network advertisement)
 ...
 neighbor A.A.A.A
 neighbor A.A.A.A filter-list 10 in
 neighbor A.A.A.A filter-list 15 out
 ...
 neighbor B.B.B.B
 neighbor B.B.B.B filter-list 20 in
 neighbor B.B.B.B filter-list 25 out

ip as-path access-list 10 deny
ip as-path access-list 10 permit

ip as-path access-list 15 ^$ (permit your local stuff outbound)

ip as-path access-list 20 deny
ip as-path access-list 20 deny _$ (don't take anything with
ISP A's AS number as the origination of the path)
ip as-path access-list 20 permit .* (everything else)

ip as-path access-list 25 ^$ (permit your local stuff outbound)

With this config just remember if the link on router A fails you will not
have a backup link to their AS path thru router B's link. I don't think you
want to do this, you have a couple of options on configs. The best way to
figure out what you want for redundancy and load balancing is to refer to
Chapter 7 of Halabi's book Internet Routing Architectures.

This sample has all the standard disclaimers. I would typically have a lot
more in filter lists and access-lists but you can't include everything...

Hope that helps.

Ed

I'm having trouble with this AS-Path situation. I have 2 routers (A and
B)
 running iBGP to each other.

 | |

I would like to use IP as-path filters to filter incoming updates from
ISP-B
so not to learn networks originating from ISP-A AS#.

What is the regular expression to do this??
 ip as-path access-list 20 deny ?? ^as#_ _as#$

I forgot one other thing, that is Chapter 7 of the Second Edition of
Halabi's book. I don't remember if all the Chapter numbers stayed the same
between the two editions. It has an excellent section on bgp regular
expression starting on page 184. Good luck!
