RE: Is there anyone passed CCNP recertification exams? [7:26813]
I took the recert at the last networkers 2001 in LA. I didn't study and I got 892 out of 1000. When I took it you needed at least 750 or something like that. The questions were a hodge podge of the 4 other current test I believe. If you are working with the equipment it should be a breeze. This is the reason why the cisco certs are so important. To make sure that you are keeping up with technology. Good luck. stanford Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7i=26817t=26813 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: How do I filter traffic on Cat5k based on IP addre [7:26821]
A standard Cat5k does not look into a packet at a layer greater than layer 2 (MAC). If you want a switch to perform this type of function then either trunk your traffic via a router or get a switch with a router blade. Frame Relay question. [7:26819]
Hi.. Assume that I have several routers attached to a FR Cloud and they are already communicating with each other. Now, one of you (who reads this subject) wants to build up a new connection between one of his routers and mine. Since there is a common network between us, each router attached to that cloud has to have a unique identifier. Using this identifier, anybody should be able to set-up a PVC or a SVC to another persons router (if he is granted,of course) anytime. Now , here is (are) the question(s).* I have not seen such an identifier during the configuration of FR circuits *. Don't tell me that DLCI is the identifier, because it has no global significance, but just a local parameter. In this case, how is a FR packet switched inside this common FR cloud.? Don't we have to worry about configuring PVC s, because this is (is it really) done by Telco?. If so, how do we set up SVCs then? What kind of a header does a FR packet have. How does a FR switch tell my packet from those of others.? I would very much appreciate your enlightment . Just give me a clue, no details needed. Thanks in advance. CCIE study partner wanted - Sydney, Australia [7:26822]
Guys, I am looking for a Study Partner, who is planning to take the CCIE lab in the next 12-15 months, and is prepared to share the cost of setting up a test lab in Sydney, Australia. I live around upper North Shore in Sydney. Preferably this candidate should be a CCNP, and should be committed to studying and doing the practice labs over the weekends. Also anyone who is in-between jobs (got recently retrenched) and is waiting for the job market to open up in the New Year - should strongly consider contacting me, as this is a golden opportunity to use the next 2-3 monts effectively and fill in those big gaps in your understanding (or lack of it) on how ip routing protocols work. I have a limited hands-on industry experience but a good theoretical understanding of ip routing protocols. CCIE One Day Lab FAIL [7:26835]
O.k. I sat the exam last week and failed but by not a lot. Silly mistakes killed me. For those of you who have still to experience the one day lab then please read ahead. Mostly everyone on this list stated that there was no time to do the lab or check anything. I found this to be so untrue it was unreal. Most people on the lab finished with an hour to go and I had more time than this to check and try to get the annoying things that didn't work to work (although I failed to get two things working)... So from that, my advice is if you are stuck on something, move on and work your way through the workbook. Once you get to the end you should have plenty time to fix (if you can) the problems you left. From my experience of Brussels everything was there. The proctors turned up when they should, answered any questions you asked, there were icons for each element you had to configure, there was paper, there were pens, pencils, sharpeners and erasers. Lunch was horrible although I don't think anyone was to bothered about lunch, so if you are a person who cannot go without lunch bring a packed lunch with you (just don't put your answers in your lunch box !!). All in all enjoy the experience and READ the questions (even the smallest detail). I am resetting in Feb next year and I reckon the pressure will really be on then. Most people fail 1st time anyway is what I can say this time but next time ?? Re: Class C IP range! [7:26814]
where can i get a class C ip address block ? I check everywhere everyone is saying they only provide a block of /19. Anyone can help ? Thanks Shella What do you want to do with it? In the real world, it can be very hard to get a provider-independent /24, and even harder to get it globally routed. Your best solution may be to design your environment to be renumbering-friendly, and get a /24 from your upstream provider. In general, you will have to demonstrate 50% immediate use of a /20 to get your own allocation. Incidentally, don't think Class C in getting assignments, think /24 (if that's what you actually need). Class-based allocation is long obsolete in the public network, regardless of what Cisco teaches in basic courses. Re: CCIE Lab Preparation Workbook [7:24920]
Brad Ellis wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... Jason, Hi! thanks for the information. what technical topics did we miss in our lab scenerios? also, here is the general list of equipment you can use to do our labs: I guess somehow this pass through my newsgroup reader without me noticing it. If I were to tell you what topic you missed, then obviously I'll be breaking the NDA. That's pretty much the list of gear that you need. When you say different equipment are you referring to the different cabling you need to do? There is a standard cabling methodology that we use on our racks so we do not have to re-cable the hardware. If you would like to know what that is, you can check out our website. As far as presentation goes, we have them on single sheets of paper so it makes it easier for you to do your labs. We could bind them together, but then it would make it much harder. Besides, do you really care if it looks pretty or not? The focus of our labs are to help you pass your CCIE, plain and simple. We go right for the throat, and don't mess around! :) Our scenarios our completely focused on the high-level engineer and expect the individual to really know there stuff. I thought I knew everything before I bought the bootcamp labs (and before I even knew of ccbootcamp). After I went through lab8, I realized how little I actually knew, and got my butt in gear for my studying. Anyway, I also have a standard cabling that works fine for me . I actually spent time going through the lab scenerios trying to figure out if my eqpt would works for the scenerio and how to optimize the eqpts placements , and that waste lots of time because it has to be repeated for every lab scenerio, I'm however glad that you are working on updating the scenerios. We are in the process of going through ALL of the labs, removing the errors, removing the old technologies, making the configs standardized for our racks (frame-relay interfaces, router #s, etc), and including pre-config files (for IP addresses, etc, like the new 1-day lab). It's not so much the binding as the quality of the presentation, I could scan a page and let everybody take a look at what I mean, part of the edge of the page is missing, etc..However, I don't see the point to that This info is just meant to help people decided ... The other problem is that the labs was standardise on your eqpt, i.e. if you have AGS, you assume everybody has AGS, etc... so it's difficult to find the exact number of interfaces, etc as what you have in the scenerios.. I would have replied personally, but you didnt include your email address. Sorry for the long winded response. Thanks for your input! The fact that I got solutionlab and IPExpert too does say something, CCBootCamp labs are not for everybody and doesn't covers everything. Having gone through both, I would say that CCBootCamp has been the defactor standard for CCIE preparation for a long time , but mistakes starts creeping in somewhere in Lab 16 onward although Lab 19 and Lab 20 improved since. Quick Comparision First Look : The first feeling is sort of disappointment, since it's a stack of papers, with no proper binding and even some info missing from the pages due to bad photocopying. If I would give CCBootCamp a 5/10 for this, then I must give IPExperts 9/10 for this. Workbook is properly binded and all printing done on glossy high quality papers . Diagrams are all in Colors and definitely not using your inkjet printer. Lab scenerios : CCBootCamp has more diverse labs , but is more distracting due to the different eqpt requirements in each lab scenerios. IPExperts builds on individual topics, making it easier to focus and also the standard lab setup makes it easier to setup the lab and focus on configurations. IP Experts breaks their lab into 19 topics and then 5 full scenerios. CCBootCamp scenerios is more tricky in certain ways. Recommendation : CCBootCamp for more experienced engineers and IPExperts for those who wants to focus on individual topics. If you are not sure , I suggest going for IPExperts first although I would give both 8/10 for the lab scenerios . Value for money : CCBootCamp is more expensive (about 50% more) , but has been around longer and has a proven ability to provides updates although somewhat irregular . IPExperts has not stated their official policy on updates, is it free or will there be some small fees. I have bought CCBootCamp more than a year ago and I'm still receiving updates free .

fwells12 wrote, I believe CertificationZone pushes the IP Expert lab scenarios, I am not sure if they create them. Anyway, Fatkid has a sponsored lab from them on their web site. If that is a sample of the kind of labs to be found in the remainder of their book, I wouldn't bother with it. It was pathetic. Well, not quite. First, CertificationZone products (as distinct from IP Expert, which is a partner), have a somewhat different model than other study product vendors. Essentially, a subscription gives you three kinds of service, all related. First, the monthly topic has a fairly extensive tutorial (25-35 pages, sometimes longer) on a particular technology. There will be at least one of these a month at the CCIE (RS) level, plus an increasing number at CCNP and specialist level. Coupled with the tutorial will be a set of sample questions and one or more scenarios. We also put up various short papers on narrowly defined subjects which may or may not contain a scenario. The key point is that we believe having a focused tutorial better prepares the candidate for success on the lab. In the same manner, our questions are not questions alone, but contain substantial explanations of the correct answers and of answers that might seem misleadingly correct. Many people have suggested that these questions sometimes are harder than the actual exam, and I'm not complaining if this is so -- we intend to build a base of understanding that will put you in good shape for the exam -- thinking of the army motto, sweat in training saves blood in combat. We should be adding, in the next month or two, some additional scenario related things, but we are not trying to compete head-to-head on nothing but the number of scenarios. Incidentally, if you find something pathetic, tell us about it so we either can fix it or clarify it. If you want to do a No Nat configuration, make an acl for no nat (using id 0) for the ips you do not want to translate. Of course, this is only sensible if you have registered ips on the inside. If not, you really should use NAT. The pix is generally a horrible router, it only supports rip.A router in the most generic sense of a multihomed host that can move from interface a to interface b is barely a router. Heck, Windows NT can do that. (shudder) You have not defined what security policy you want. access-lists for what? Inbound or outbound? If you use PAT (which is really a misnamed ciscoism), you have some light level of security for inbound conneciton. By default, no one can hit your inside from the outside unless you have statics + access lists. If you use static NATs, you WILL open a security hole for sure unless you got ACLs blocking on the outside interface. Remember, the inflexible Cisco pix can only do inbound ACLs to any interface. (However, you can still simulate the inbound outbound security policy by putting it on the other interfaces). You have not mentioned inbound or outbound. If you mean inbound, use a static (from the outside to the inside) and write an acl that allows him access through. I know you said this is a test environment. However, I think you should review some of the pix's basic configurations on Cisco's web site to get a better understanding and should definitely get a consultant to review your final configuration before deployment. -Carroll Kong Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7i=26839t=26832 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

RE: cs500 password recovery [7:26824]
The procedure does work but not exactly as you might think. The push button on the front doesnt reset the config( or not on mine) but does bypass the config on startup. You can edit the startup, change the password, etc then save it and reboot. I had to do this when I mistyped the file name for a remote boot file off a TFTP server.. oops.. IF you have tried this and it doesnt reset, take the cover off and spray some contact cleaner into the pushswitch. This switch is rarely used and it will get all kinds of crud in it ranging from smoke deposits to corrosion. Sometimes pushing the switch from the CCA instead of the button works. Re: Frame Relay question. [7:26819]
The wan provider maps the DLCI to the IP of the FR switch at the opposite end through special tables.. Furthermore, the Frame Relay header is stipped off when entering the cloud and travels around via regualr IP or ATM, etc. The FR header is then put back on once it reached the opposite FR switch. They police your speed with CAR. ]hsan Turkmen wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... Hi.. Re: 45 4700's, FE, ATM [7:26788]
We do it all over in our LSS service, (LAN Switching Service). Though we no longer use 4700's, dead product, it works fine and these things were bridging. Only time we had a very strange problem that has never been resolved was a customer connect about 6 sites thru this fully meshed service with a completely flat 5000 node network!! Finally convinced them to put routers on the inside of these 4700 bridges. If it's only for a lab then certainly go ahead. advice on CCNP exams [7:26850]
For all those people who are starting CCNP, I have some advice for you. Dont be discouraged by all the people telling you they got a 990 on every exam. That was then, and this is now. I new price of 125 (Nov 11th) for test indicates that things have changed very much. I say this because Cisco states the 125 is for the cost of changing the exams. I have just heard from friends that took it and that alot of their friends are failing. I have failed CCNP Routing as well just recently. The number of CCNPs has increased this year, by 100% since the following year, I think that trend is coming to a screaching halt. How to study, it should be common sense, which i dont have much of :) Print out the study guideline from Cisco, and know everything they mention forwards and backwards. Obviously OSPF, BGP. If you have any study guides, dont really put much stock in them there not worth 2c anymore. I suggest exam cram for a basic idea of what its about, and cisco press to look up the things that are hard to understand. And maybe sybex if you want to read the entire book :) I think some of the questions on Boson go overboard, but that might be what you need. I guess it cant hurt to know too much. Boson is now only good for learning what type of questions are on the exam, not THE actual questions on the exam anymore. What IOS to choose? [7:26852]
Hi All I'm looking at upgrading the IOS for a couple of 7204 routers so that they can support SSH, I'm after a bit of info' on a good method of selecting the IOS to upgrade to. I've searched the CCO and found that I need an IPSec version, say the Enterprise IPsec with 3Des, I then get a list of IOS to choose from, easy enough. I would like the most stable IOS possible for our situation, so I picked out an IOS 12.1(5)T9, I choose this on the basis of memory requirements alone and the presumption that the earlier versions (T - T8) may have had more bugs. I've then done a search on the bug tool to check for known bugs, and I didn't get any with this specific version. RE: What IOS to choose? [7:26852]
Your choice is as good as any. Not being sarcastic, but I have been through the ringer with IOS and Cisco for the last 6 months. Specifically with 7200's and 7500's. TAC will not provide you with Code recommendation unless you are experiencing issues with code. In regards to your selection, I would say that you are probably in a safe place. I am actually performing an upgrade this afternoon to 12.1(5)T7. This version is said to be stable as it resolves a NAT issue I am dealing with. I have also been told that 12.2 code has issues as well. So Hope your upgrade goes well. I have to say that I am sorely dissappointed with the declining quality of Cisco IOS and Hardware alike. -Original Message- From: Patrick Donlon [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, November 20, 2001 10:25 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: What IOS to choose? RE: advice on CCNP exams [7:26850]
I started taking the CCNP exams under the 1.0 versions. I took the CLSC (Switching), CMTD (RAS) and failed the ACRC (Routing) exams, then the switch happened. I then took the Routing exam, and the old ACRC made the routing exam I took look like a walk in the park. After that, the Support exam wasn't challenging at all. It wouldn't surprise me if Cisco decided to increase the difficulty on those exams. ACL's on a VLAN [7:26858]
I'd like to use ACL's on a 2948 G-L3 switch. Cisco states that you cannot put extended access lists on physical interfaces, see below. I need the access list security. Do extended access lists work on logical VLAN interfaces? ( http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/473/29.html ) In release 12.0(7)W5(15d), the Catalyst 2948G-L3 does not support: a.. Data-plane (security) access-control lists (ACLs) on any interfaces (in other words, user data traffic cannot be restricted using input or output access lists on the router interfaces) In Cisco's network model they say access lists should be used at the disrtibution layer only and they classify the 2948 G-L3 as a distribution layer switch/router. How could they then not support ACL's on this $10K switch/router. To say the least i'm very frustrated. thanx sam sneed Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7i=26858t=26858 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

RE: Boson Tests border on Unethical [7:26639]
I thought about that after I took the exam, but there was something else I noticed when taking the boson tests. Try taking one of the more popular CCIE prep books, or maybe even the CCIE Professional Development books, and go through a section. (Not a chapter, but one section of a chapter). Then, try to think of 5 questions you could ask someone that would test their comprehension of that section. I'm willing to bet that 4 of those 5 questions you thought of will show up, worded slightly differently, on the boson tests, and 1 or 2 of those 5 questions are in the test bank for the written. I didn't check for this book though, partially because I knew any errors would come up in my cross-referencing, and partially out of laziness =) I consider the Lammle/Swartz book a worthy investment though; a month ago I had practically 0 experience or knowledge of reading and interpretting RIF's or working with multicast protocols. One of the down sides of some of the more detailed books out there is that they contain so much information that a subject you know nothing about can be intimidating. For example, I THOUGHT I knew ethernet until I read the ethernet chapter in Giles' book. Reading a book like his to learn about something you know little about is painful at best, and fruitless at worst. The Sybex book does an excellent job of explaining the underlying concepts in english, giving you a foundation to build on. I also bought one of the Boson CCIE tests yesterday and went through it for a few hours before I took the test. Let me say, that was the second best $40 dollars I've spent on this test. (The best $40 was the bar tab I racked up last night) The questions in the Boson test were very challenging, many of them more challenging than the Written. I'm pretty sure, I wouldn't have passed without it. I had one other resource backing me up, I teach the Cisco Networking Academy classes. Believe it or not, knowing the CCNA netacad curriculum forwards and backwards contributed greatly to my success on the exam. Anyways, enough babbling... after taking a short break I need to start getting ready for the lab. I don't post much on here (usually because the few questions I'm qualified to answer, get answered six times before I can hit the Reply button), but I want to thank everyone on the list; I've learned a lot from your questions and your answers. RE: advice on CCNP exams [7:26850]
If you're good at something - a test may seem easy. On the other hand, if you're not good at something - a test may seem very tough. The point is, the exams are no harder than you make them, and if everything makes sense to you and you have a good logical way of thinking - the CCIE lab could seem like a walk in the park to you. Also, you should be careful how you talk about books. Some books might not work for you, but could be excellent for other. A good example is when you read the reviews on amazon - you can find one person writing that the books was perfect, and he passed the exam reading only that book, while another person who failed the exam is sending the book straight to hell. In regards to the Boson tests. They gives you a good fine tuning to prepare for the exam, but as far as I know has never given you the exact same questions as on the real one - that would be an open invitation to a big lawsuit from Cisco. If anyone has a link to an official comment/article from Cisco regarding the change of their tests to harder ones, please send that to the list. My 0020 cents. PPP Multilink - Virtual Interface [7:26877]
Hey all. I came across something and I can't find a good answer anywhere. So here goes. There is a 7500 router with multiple T1s that go to many remote sites. Some of these remote sites use multiple T1 lines. These are configured with PPP Multilink and Virtual Templates. I know that when configuring MLP without Virtual Templates, you can specify a multilink group (bundle). However, we aren't specifying a bundle or group number on our serial interfaces. We simply have them using MLP and then a multilink virtual-template 1 command. Here's my question. How does the router (the Virtual Template) know which line to put in which bundle? Does it use a neighbor-type relationship to determine which links need to be part of which bundles? Here is a sample of the output from the hub router: -- Router#show ppp mul Bundle Site1, 2 members, Master link is Virtual-Access1 696774 lost fragments, 77484296 reordered, 0 unassigned, sequence 0x216AF0/0xBD6863 rcvd/sent 317583 discarded, 17 lost received, 34/255 load Member Links: 2 Serial5/0/0 Serial5/0/1 Bundle Site2, 2 members, Master link is Virtual-Access2 483 lost fragments, 4395802 reordered, 0 unassigned, sequence 0xB0B211/0x7718D rcvd/sent 145 discarded, 0 lost received, 245/255 load Member Links: 2 Serial11/0/0 Serial11/0/1 -- So again, how did the Virtual-Template know to group S5/0/0 and S5/0/1 into a bundle? A secondary question: What's the advantage(s) to using Virtual-Templates over simply configuring the MLP bundles directly? If anyone has a good link or document about how Cisco implements MLP with and without Virutal-Templates, let me know. Aside from straight here's how to configure documents, I can't find any good info. Thanks! Mike W. I don't know as this is the first I've heard of the 2948G-L3 switches. However, I did read this: The Catalyst 2948G-L3 has the ability to prevent security breaches via the use of both IP and IPX access lists. This is useful in preventing users from accessing certain applications or services. The Catalyst 2948G-L3 supports both inbound and outbound access lists on its two Gigabit Ethernet interfaces. These access lists can be defined similar to any Cisco IOS router as standard IPX access lists as well as standard and extended IP-based access lists. from the following URL (watch for wrap): http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/cc/pd/si/casi/ca2900/prodlit/29gl3_ds.htm This tells me that it supports Standard IP/IPX ACL and Extended IP ACL but only on it's two Gig interfaces. Now, if you have multiple VLANs, and use the Gig links as trunks, I don't know if using ACLs is still an option, etc HTH, Mike W. RE: selection of SW for C6000 series switches [7:26830]
I would say your best bet would be to scour Cisco's website on each part and see the differences. For instance, there are some functions that a MSFC2/PFC2 can do that an MSFC1/PFC1 can't do. (AFAIK) you HAVE to have a Sup 2 to support a MSFC2/PFC2, but you can run an MSFC1/PFC2 on either a Sup1 or Sup2. If you look on Cisco's website for Supervisor IOS you'll find information about the Native IOS (Native IOS = Supervisor IOS). Hybrid is where the switch side of the box runs a CatOS and the router part (the MSFC1/2) runs an IOS. Under Native (or Supervisor) IOS, the IOS controls the whole box. So basically with Native IOS, every switchport can act as a separate router interface, so it's like having a router with 200+ ethernet interfaces =). My logic has always been, if someone can afford to take any cert exam 8 times, and doesn't mind losing the money, then odds are they're financially well-off enough that they can just retire now and get it over with. Now that the written costs $300 US, taking the written 8 times would cost $2400, and taking the lab eight times would cost over 9 grand. That's a lot of beer money to go donating to Cisco... RE: Boson Tests border on Unethical [7:26639]
It's easy to see what's happening here. All of Boson's tests are done by different authors. Each author is going to try like hell to get their questions as close as possible to the questions on the actual exams, if not right from the exams. Boson doesn't care because they state right in their author contract that they are not responsible for exams that contain questions that break the NDA. The author will be held responsible. It's not like Boson's going to double-check every authored exam for NDA violations. Anyway, the closer the author comes to the actual exam questions, the more exams he'll sell when word gets around that, for example, Boson Test #2 is the one you need to get. However, Boson isn't doing anything different than any other company selling certification practice exams. It's a ridiculously huge, cut-throat, and competitive market out there for study materials. RE: advice on CCNP exams [7:26850]
You are probably right about the reviews, which is why I mostly go for books with more than 10 different ones - and better if even more. I also agree with you about multiple books - I have done that with all my exams except the BCRAN, because that book was just perfect (in my eyes). However, I have seen people who just get it right away. I mean, you can show them the worst book, and they will understand the entire thing right away, and go up and score 1000. Me, on the other hand, unless it's a really good book (again - for me that is) do not always get it right away, and must re-read it in the same and/or other books, and then after still not getting it when answering wrong on a boson test, finally figure it out. What I was trying to say was, that I think you should be careful posting to a list that some books just don't work for the exam(s), because there are always many new members, and some of them might never buy one of those books you talk badly about, and that would not be fair to the writers nor to the publishers, because those books are probably pretty good in other peoples eyes. Anyway, this is still my 2 cents, and I like to say that :-) Ole ~~~ Ole Drews Jensen Systems Network Manager CCNP, MCSE, MCP+I RWR Enterprises, Inc. I think that is a good idea. The boson exam Idea, someone else posted here. It said that the CCIE boson had alot of the same questions, and why was it legal to do that. No matter what, test are just paper. You have to know the true matieral, and how things work to be gainfully employed and successful. And everyone must recertify CCNP every 2 years, and I think thats a good idea on Ciscos part. logic alone will not get you very far. Interesting observation. I don't think Cisco would even care if a company was putting out test questions that matched the exam... after all, if less qualified people try and fail at the lab, that's just easy money for them anyway. Either way, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. I'm just going to make sure I'm not easy money. RE: Advanced BGP Class [7:26838]
check out computerdata.com, they're just a cisco training partner that hires mr. mobley. I think the class is $3995 for the week. Not bad if work's paying. Here's some confirmation info from computer data. This is to confirm your seat in the following course: Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) Starting on November 26, 2001 Length of class: 5 days Prereq: A good understanding of the operation and configuration of Interior Routing Protocols especially EIGRP and OSPF. This class is intended to introduce students to the concepts and configuration of the Border Gateway Protocol and lead students to an understanding of many of the tools and techniques used in more advanced BGP implementations. All of the configurations and labs will be conducted using Cisco Systems routers. This course will be taught by Larry Mobley, who also developed the course. The Cisco equipment will be accessed remotely. All courses start at 9:00 a.m. on the first day of class. Classes end approximately at 5:00 p.m. with an hour for lunch. We are located at 25786 Commerce Drive, Madison Heights, MI 48071 (Northwest of the I-696 and Dequindre intersection, just West of Lincoln Avenue and North off the I-696 Service Drive). For detailed map see attached. In the event that you need to reschedule or cancel your registration for this course, arrangements must be made at least 30 days prior to the class start date to prevent a charge to your company. Cancellation or rescheduling a class less than 30 days will be charged full course tuition. Thank you for choosing Computer Data, Inc. RE: CPU Usage - How Much Is Too Much? [7:26739]
Been there, done that...not any fun. Brokerage environment; UDP directed-broadcast traffic to nearly 200 sites. Buffers tuned to the max to keep from dropping packets because the application didn't handle re-transmissions...etc., etc., Of course, priority queuing was required to ensure that web browsing wasn't stepping on the mission-critical app. RSP4's in the 7500's were running into the 90% range on a regular basis...couldn't talk the client into spending the $$ to re-design the network; they couldn't understand why the users were complaining about poor network performance. They figured that if the processors were running near 100% that they were getting their $$ out of the infrastructure investment - I still have bad dreams about it :) - working for a new client now... :) -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, November 19, 2001 4:34 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: CPU Usage - How Much Is Too Much? [7:26739] From personal experience I'd put that figure at 3% too high :-) In the dim dark past we were running some 7500s with badly overloaded RSPs. They would run with no discernible problems up to 97% or 98% CPU. Then late morning the traffic load would build up, and output queues on some of the ports would eventually overrun, and DLSW circuits would start to bounce, and the network would go into meltdown very spectacularly. For various reasons it took us a while to get hold of upgraded RSPs, so peak hour wasn't a lot of fun for us or the network users... YMMV. I do *not* recommend running at 97% CPU on a production network. RE: Cisco TACACS+ Problem [7:26783]
Verify that the router can reach the TACACS server (ping) and verify that the TACACS server and router are configured with matching parameters. Note: you may have to restart the TACACS server process when you add a router. I'm assuming that you copy/pasted the same set of config lines in all of the routers; you might want to verify that all of the lines made it into the config properly. If you created your script on a 12.1 router it may have problems getting entered into a 12.0 router, for example. Hope this helps. I have configured a number of routers to authenticate to the TACACS+ server we have on site. some routers get the login prompt and some dont and at time others do. Books similar to BGP4 config guide frm Parkhurst. [7:26906]
Hi all, I have been going thru the book - Cisco BGP 4 - command and configuration handbook from William Parkhurst and personally feel that book is very good - explaining each and every command options and examples for that. It is useful for me to practice each and every command for my exam. At the same time, I am also thinking whether is there any other book similar to this for other protocols like OSPF, EIGRP, IGRP/RIP. Of course I wonder, why Parkhurst himself hasn't written similar books and just only for BGP. Have anybody come across a similar guide for these other protocols as well. Thanks for your time. RE: Cisco TACACS+ Problem [7:26783]
The best way to troubleshoot the problem would be to enable debugging on the Tacacs server, The following commands assume you have a Unix Tacacs server and you will need root access. The first file you need to edit is the $BASEDIR/config/CSU.cfg file. You will need to change the following lines NUMBER config_system_logging_level = 0x80; ( sets the debug to local 0 facility ) NUMBER config_logging_configuration = 0x0fff; ( sets the debugging verbose level ) You will then need to modify the /etc/syslog.conf file by adding the following line local0.debug/var/log/csuslog The file csuslog must be created in the /var/log directory, in fact you can direct the output to any file in any directory as long as you put the full path in the syslog.conf file. You will then need to stop and start CiscoSecure and also restart the syslog daemon Then log into the routers and go back and view the log file ( csuslog in this case ) The most likely issue that you will have is that the secret keys are incorrect. Hope this helps Doug -Original Message- From: R. RE: token ring to eth [7:26828]
As far as I know, you can't just put a gender-changer device on a TR interface and the other end of it be a Ethernet directly into a Ethernet Concentrator. What you would have to do is have a TR Blade in a Modular switch primarily working with Ethernet, or vise-versa. Then you have to have the correct OS on the Switch, and configure Bridging between the TR and Ethernet networks within the OS Configuration. Do-able, but much more complicated. I must share your superstition. I always filled out the survey as if I was doing a career change and didn't know squat about networking even though I've got numerous certs and have hands-on experience. I've heard that the grading of an exam is somewhat based on your answers to this survey. So, I don't think that the questions would be more difficult, just possibly the grading. Whether it's true or why they would do this, I don't know. It's just an interesting bit of information I heard about and decided that it's better to be safe than sorry! Off topic: Is it just me and my superstitions, or does any one else feel that the survey before each test on how many certs you have, experience you have, etc., changes the difficulty on the test based on how well you say you know the stuff, number of yearsd in, etc,.? Also, what would happen if you said no the the NDA before the test? Does it boot you off and send you home $125 poorer? Brian wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... Which path to take? [7:26918]
De-lurk mode on Hello, looking for some career pathing advice. I am currently pursuing CCNP but looking to specialize. It seems to me that the two hot paths right now are VoIP/AVVID and Security/SAFE. To get blunt, which one of these specializations is going to be more in demand/pay more in the long run? I like both technologies, but what really brings this post is a price list I saw recently from a VAR in Kansas City. They were charging around $150 for security stuff, but for phone stuff it was $225 and up. I like both technologies, but am not sure which is going to be the better road to take. Would appreciate any input on this matter.
