Re: [slim] PDA-controller SlimControl 0.95
Hello *, I have installed SlimControl 1.52 (including registring and adding a key). When I start the app, it starts searching for the server. And finds it to... :-) After that it stays quite with the message Waiting for server status. Even when there are one or more players active. However, with the PDA, I can access the web interface on the SqueezeServer. So there is no connectivity issue. I'm using an i-Paq model HX4700 with WM 6.1. On the server site there is SqueezeServer 7.6.1 based on Win2k3. When running SqueezeSlave on the computers in the network, I can play and hear the music. Syncing all players works fine. Where do I start for troubleshooting this? Or even better - anyone the has experienced this too? And solved it? Re: [slim] PDA-controller SlimControl 0.95
Hey there. First off, excellent program you're developing here. It's coming along very nicely and I look forward to future development. A few observations/questions/suggestions if thats all right. I've been testing SC on a HP Ipaq 200 series PDA. Its fairly modern unit with ~630mhz and 128ram. First big problem as of 1.30b3(which I noticed is now missing from your site), the unit will not shut off manually or go to sleep after having run SC. I'm forced to soft reset. Using SC 1.00, it shuts off fine. Performance wise, things are pretty smooth. There are a lot of times though where the animated transitions are hesitant and slow, ever after everything has been cached. Is that just the nature of it or is that something that will be tweaked later on down the road? Will it/can it be possible to have an option to adjust animation speed? Possibly also an option to disable it all together? While on performance, it would be nice to have a manually rebuild cache option in the server settings, or an additional pop up option when SC starts and detects a change. Being able to force SC to rebuild the whole cache in one go as opposed to rebuilding as you're trying to browse would be a welcome option. The 'quick scroll' A-Z sidebar in the library lists is great. I did notice though that it doesn't work at all in the album view. All the other views it works fine. It would also be nice if the sidebar was a little more finger friendly. Right now its a little hard to use with as narrow as it is. One last question, will it be possible in the future to customize the buttons? Having the buttons you use the most show up first would be nice. Thanks for your time. -- MusicManiac MusicManiac's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36544 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64537 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Because there's an option to prevent the device from going into standby. Have you Activated the auto Wifi power-up? Performance wise, things are pretty smooth. There are a lot of times though where the animated transitions are hesitant and slow, ever after everything has been cached. Is that just the nature of it or is that something that will be tweaked later on down the road? Could you tell me exactly which transitions are slow. For instance, the slide-in/out transations in the browser ? Or the cover-flipping in the main screen? How long does the slide-in transation take - approximately. 1/2 second, 2 seconds? The thing is, these animations are all on the software-level. So they are slower than native animations (like e.g. on iPhone) Will it/can it be possible to have an option to adjust animation speed? Being able to force SC to rebuild the whole cache in one go as opposed to rebuilding as you're trying to browse would be a welcome option. To wipe the cache: - Settings - 'cache' button - Delete a particular cache Besides that, SC fills the cache as needed. So whenever it encounters a yet uncached image/album-list/etc it will load and store it. That is opposed to filling the cache all at once which would take rather long. The cache-on-demand is causing some sluggishness when an image is loaded the first time. The 'quick scroll' A-Z sidebar in the library lists is great. I did notice though that it doesn't work at all in the album view. All the other views it works fine. Thanks - you're confirming an issue that arztde had brought up. I'll look into it. It would also be nice if the sidebar was a little more #8220;finger friendly#8221;. Right now its a little hard to use with as narrow as it is. :-) see above. I'll try and enlarge it. Do mean the browser button at the bottom, or the popup-menu buttons in the main screen? It is possible in general - but quite some work. I'll conisder it some time from now. Thanks for the great feedback. Do get back to me. Particularly on the animation/transition issue. I'd love to improve it for those large screens. Thing is - its quite smooth in my 240x320 screen. Re: [slim] PDA-controller SlimControl 0.95
The problem of not being able to shutdown is after SC has been closed. I thought the problem might be the keep-alive or wifi option, but no combination of settings helped. I've tried with both off, both on, one or the other... same problem. The problem is still even there with starting SC then immediately closing it. With the animations I've noticed it mostly with the browser.( I actually haven't had much experience with the cover-flip - took me forever to figure out it was a swipe up motion to activate). When the animations are working its probably about 2 seconds. I'm not sure if I would say the animation is slower then that when its acting up... it tends to look choppy and hesitant but its probably still taking about the same time. I understand the cache option now. Its just when you go to find an album or artist it tends to take awhile. I was wondering if a force cache option would work out in the sense that you could hit the button, walk away for something, then when you get back you would have a smooth quick delay free library to browse. I guess its an option of being able to choose when one has to wait for the delay as opposed to being forced. Its alright for for me ad it is, but with a large library that's only growing and changing a lot, it takes awhile sometimes to pick a song. But as I said that's a mute point more then anything else. Thanks for looking into the sidebar, I didn't see arztde's post. I tried to search through the thread to make sure I wasn't repeating anything, and you're right, the screen space is pretty valuable. You've done a great job as it is with what you've packed in. As far as the buttons go, on the library screen its my music, internet radio, internet service for the first three buttons. Since the internet radio/services are second to my music collection, an option of my music, search, favorites or similar combination related to the library would be nice. Less clicks to the prominent options. Appreciate you getting back so quick. If I can answer anything else to help out let me know. In the mean time I'll keep poking around and playing with it. -- MusicManiac MusicManiac's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36544 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64537 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Oh, you mean a cache everything now sort of thing. That would of course be an option. I'll think about that. On the other hand, there's four lists that are beeing cached: albums, genres, artists, musicfolder (root directory) Once they have been loaded for the first time, the cache is built. So it's four times waiting. Besides tha album covers, i.e. Arztde's post might have been in the german forum. The playlist arrows are gone. Use left-swipe and right-swipe to navigate. the timeout value is now fixed. If SlimCtrl queries take longer than that, your server is too slow. It would no fun if things were taking that long. Note: Long queries are 'split' by SlimCtrl. For example, 50 albums at a time, 10 folders at a time. If 50 albums take 10 seconds than 500 albums will take 100 seconds. Or 200 Folders 3 minutes. Re: [slim] PDA-controller SlimControl 0.95
Hi Locuth Just wanted to give my thanks for this brilliant little app. Just upgraded to 1.3 beta3 from 1.0 and there are so many improvements. I am using a SE X1 with WM 6.1 and a 800x480 screen. If I slide the phone open there is a minor graphical issue when screen rotates to wide screen mode. A scroll bar appears in the right side covering e.g. the last digit of the remaining time... I hope that you got that explanation ;-) Thanks Jan -- slate Main: Duet - Beresford Caiman - Carver A-500x - BW 704 Office: Duet - Technics SU-V50 - Stax SR84 Pro Server: Zotac IONITX-A, 4 GB, 1 TB WD EADS, Win7 slate's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30502 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64537 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I had a lengthy conversation in the german forum. And my understanding now is that IRBlaster requires volume commands like volume +5 rather than volume = 45 So if activated, SlimCtrl sends +/- volume commands. The volume slider is then replaced by volume up/down buttons. Most people set the SqueezeCener volume to 100%. This setting is (AFAIK) left as-is by the IRBlaster plugin. Hi. I have played around some more. Unfortunately I can't do screenshot and don't know what you call the different meus etc, so I hope you understand what i mean below, otherwise let me know and I will rephrase. Here goes: Main music-selection menu has no back-swipe but a back-icon instead. Is that not a legacy from before you invented the backswipe? Double click: main menu: to select eg artists I need to click twice. The first click just highlights it. Fine for e.g. highligting an album so you can click on one of the three add-to-playlist-buttons. But not in the higher levels of navigation. Other places I have noticed it: To select an internet service, and to open an activity in the service. E.g open my newsfeed in Facebook. When drilling down in the radio-menu. Problably several other places... I think I don't understand the use of the keyboard below the alphabet (great feature btw). when i clock I get a very small popup Rounded in one corner, but sort of cut off on the bottom and right side. Apparently it is for selecting .,: Probably usefull for some. But why not include more special characters? Hey, I just discovered there's a sleep function. Cool. I finally figured the sync out. It's hard to fit a lot of features in a small amount of space. Some learning curve is necesary. When I posted yesterday I hadn't spent much time on it. A minute or two more probably would have made me figure it out. But instructive vidoes sound like a good idea. The actions to get into the current playlist requires two steps. I think it would be better to have one icon on the now playing screen. And the icon to open the row of four icons: off, settings, players, playlist isn't really visually up to the rest of the ui I think. Thats all for now. I hope it is of some value to you. Oh, regarding the lefthand skin. I understand the design decision. And the layout doesn't bother me at all. But the right-swipe actually still does after a couple of hours of using 1.3. I will ofcourse get used to it eventually. At some point you suggested activating both left- and rightswipe at the same time. I think that would be a good idea, if not too difficult to implement. That is: in all locations were rightswipe causes a back-command, make a leftswipe do the same. Regards, Mogens -- Muele BR Mogens 1 Radio, 2 Controllers, 2 Receivers, 1 Squeezeplay. Re: [slim] PDA-controller SlimControl 0.95
After a bit of playing around I must say: Wauw. It's really come a long way. This may actually compete with the Logitech controller, I think. At the previous versions I didn't think it would be this good. Especially the interaction at the now-playing screen is good. The old flipping was cool but now its way better. An what you've put behind the flip is very usable. I did find some things that could be improved. The change player interface is a bit confusing. I didn't really figure out to e.g. sync players yet. And as mentioned earlier I miss the lefthand interface. Especially the back-swipe feels wrong when the motion is going away from the hand if you know what I mean. Ofcourse you can get accustomed to it. Loading lists with a lot of tracks take quite a while. Quite annoying if you check the lyrics of one track and go back to the list. It doesn't seem to load on the same place as it was left btw. Doubleclick? I think that is a mistake, it must be posible to navigate on a touchscreen without having to click twice. I think there were a few other things, but i can't remember right now. These are all minor stuff and purely meant constructively. As mentioned before it's really good. -- Muele BR Mogens 1 Radio, 2 Controllers, 2 Receivers, 1 Squeezeplay. Served by an old 800 mhz IBM T21 Thinkpad. Re: [slim] PDA-controller SlimControl 0.95
Hello guys SlimControl 1.0 beta is online and ready for you. Be kind if you discover any bugs - I'll fix them. As to the usability - I'd like to give three important hints: 1. Whenever you are in a list (players, current playlist, albums, etc.) Swipe-right on the list to go 'back', if applicable. 2. The player-list can be closed by swiping-right (as there is no 'back' really^^) Cklicking anywhere outside the list closes it too. 3. The current playlist (now playing screen) displays 30 items at a time. You can navigate back and forth by swiping-right/left. The two somewhat ugly arrow-buttons at the bottom do the same. Cklicking anywhere outside the list closes it. Oh, and a 4th hint. The current playlist has context-menu that you access via taphold. === Edit === To those of you who haven't worked with/registered version 0.98: You have to re-register. However the registration requires no more emailing. Instead you'll get a key right from the online registration form that opens in your browser. Copy paste that into the key-field in SlimControl. You open the online registration form by clicking on the blue hyperlink in the SControl registration dialog. I am humbly awaiting your feedback. Is this normal behaviour? Is it always necessary to manually reconnect wifi after the phone has gone into sleep mode? Go to the settings and check the 'keep alive' box. In the lower part of the window, maybe it's called something else - I don't recall right now. This will prevent your device from going to sleep. The behaviour is arguable but it's by design. I have tried your app with my normal login details, and mysqueezebox.com as the server, and with port settings of 3483 and 9000 (as taken from the diagnostics menu on my Squeezebox Duet controller). Re: [slim] PDA-controller SlimControl 0.95
I'm not a beta tester, but am running SlimControl Ver0.98 with server 7.4 (upgraded yesterday without a problem). But I run a very simple setup, no ithis or ithat, no plugins besides what comes with the server software. I was still using 0.92 and finally updated to 0.95. Loving the updates, the option to switch on the wifi is great. Many thanks for your continued work. -- Blisteringblue 'What am I listening to?' Re: [slim] PDA-controller SlimControl 0.95
Okay - everything looks great. Of course, what I have said before holds (and I'm sure it's all on your list, so I won't reiterate) but here are my notes on .996: Installation (other than the uninstallation first glitch) was fine - didn't have to re-register. All functionality you mentioned is present and accounted for. Volume control (with 100% there all the time (and not just when you use it) is great! (have a look at Sebastians Website) I've updated shortly an recognized, that the covers (albumart) are stopping now at thee next full cover after coverflipping! Yes 0.996. i can slowly scroll one cover partially out but when I lift the finger it stops there instead of snapping to the next cover in the direction I was flipping. Ezzi;460813 Wrote: At v0.996 press and hold on a cover in Homescreen brings up a Meta-Info-Screen. For me very nice so far. But you are right. Choosing single tracks from coverflow albums would be fantastic. Yes I noticed the metainfo which are really good for the song that is playing, but is confusing to touch another album and get metainfo for a song which is not on that album. To keep it simple I would not go so far as adding single tracks when in coverfow mode, but the full album. Ezzi;460813 Wrote: Playlists: If you have selected your Album, Playlist, single Track or anything else, you have the opportunity to choose between three ways of inserting tracks to your Playlist. Enter at end of Playlist, enter as next and Enter at beginning of new Playlist. To me this last point is similar to clearing a Playlist. Perhaps better. So you don't run out of music ;) Joerg Thanks i had forgotten about the last option. Comment to Sebastian: I think that the first of the playlist action icons can be misleading. By looking at all three of them I would say that the meaning is insert at the beginning, insert at the middle, append to the end. None of them strikes me as also clearing the initial content. I would suggest for the first icon to colour all the three lines light blue or completely remove or strike out the last two lines so that it is clear what the purpose is (sorry, this is a professional disease as I have been working for almost 20 years with u.i. design :-)). Very minor thing as once you tried once or twice even I will learn it. Other than that I keep getting more and more blown away by Sebastian work.
