[HCDX] UNID 1450khz/.. good ears & detective work needed!

2018-12-12 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Hi All,

I need some help, but I warn this will be a tough one. I am in Laramie,
WY and have an UNID station on 1450khz that played "Paperback WRiter" by
The Beatles at 632am mountain/1332UTC on Wednesday December 12. THe
signal; is actually fairly clear for about 20 seconds of the song that
fades out. There are several seconds of a "Fox Business Report" at about 4
mins and 10 seconds into my recording and about 8 minutes and 40 seconds
there's a reference to teaching kids to read a bible.

Problem in all of this, I don't hear any identifying information, at least
to my ears during the entire 12 minute clip. I already contacted KVCK 1450
Wolf Point, Montana my nearest 1450 playing oldies and it's not them. It
also does not appear on the KMRY Cedar Rapids, IA playlist either.

KQTE in CA is not oldies, but sports now apparently. A few stations I
looked at don't have online playlists. It could be KGIW Alamosa, CO but I
havent been able to check them yet

Any bright ideas on who this could be or anyone able to pick anything out
of the file? I've seen you guys manage to drag out some amazing stuff.

Here's the audio file:

[HCDX] KSWV 810 Santa Fe Format Change?

2018-11-30 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
The station is listed as Spanish/Regional Mexican in several places,
including wikipedia, TopazDesigns AM Broadcast data base and radio locator.

However, DXing from Laramie WY this morning and I hear them playing pretty
traditional english language Christmas tunes with a legal id, that also
mentions their translator. I heard a station liner that implies they are
classic hits now.

2 of the 4 CBU towers have been removed and in speaking with the engineer

With 2 less towers and 25kw instead of 50kw, I'd there will be a change.

[HCDX] CBU 690 Vancouver now at 25,000 Watts fulltime

2018-11-23 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
>From Canadian Radio News on Facebook:
Northwest Broadcasters is reporting that CBC Radio One in Vancouver CBU 690
has now decreased power from 50,000 to 25,000 watts fulltime. The reduction
in power was necessitated after a fire destroyed part of the stations
transmitting facilities last year which would have been too costly to
repair. Radio One programming is also available in Vancouver on repeater
CBU-2 at 88.1 which operates with 97,600 watts.

CKLQ-AM 880 Brandon, MB, Canada made an appearance once again today,
Tuesday Oct 22 just as the sun rose in NYC and it was still dark here in
the NW corner of Pennsylvania. They're 1175 miles away from me

Here's a clip from 711am eastern with Marren Morris and "80's Ladies", this
one actually peaks up to quite decent levels for a short time:

Here's a clip from 721am mentioning "Westman Communications", a telecom
company

Here's a clip from 723am eastern with a "Q Country 91.5" liner into
"Tennessee River" By Alabama:

Turns out it’s WRMI. From WRMI owner Jeff White:

That's us with Radio Nigeria Kaduna in the Hausa language, on daily now at
0500-0900, 1100-1500 and 2000-2300 UTC on 11580, till further notice. It's

[HCDX] Mystery 11580khz?

2018-10-12 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
I've got a mystery station on 11580khz at 1310UTC here in Ridgway,
Pennsylvania, USA. It sounds like arabic/quran chanting and speech.

I don't think this is WRMI because they aren't listed on this frequency
anymore plus check two east coast SDR's and one in western Europe, WRMI
should've been strong if this was them and I heard not a peep.

It's STRONG and steady here so I guess it COULD be WRMI.

FEBA India isn't scheduled to be on till 1315UTC and this didn't sound like
what FEBA would run, but I can't be sure.

Anyone have any idea who this was... was it someone jamming somewhere else
or a test of a B18 registration ahead of the actual B18 start date?

I tuned in again at 1335UTC, it's still going strong with arabic/quran
chanting/singing. Am I being duped by a reactivated WRMI 11580?

Western Pennsylvania. I’m hearing some regular stuff that I normally hear
which I didn’t hear late Sunday or at all Monday after the sun puked up on
us

WWV 15mhz is way way better then yesterday. Saudi is audible on 13710
today, way better then yesterday but not as good as usual. AIR on 11560 is
audible nearly as good as usual. Farda on 12005 is about as listenable as
usual. I even have a carrier from Iran in 9850

[HCDX] Russian on 11955khz

2018-10-05 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
One site lists Radio Taiwan international and Radio France International in
Russian,
Both on 11955, both at 1700UTC and both from Issoudun. One site only lists
RFI on this channel at 1700, other lists RTI on at this time on 9800khz.

RTI’s own site lists 11955 and not 9800.

Who is right and who’s broadcasting what? I hear half a dozen songs played
with a female Russian announcer in between but I haven’t caught a station
name.

It signed off in the middle of a song with no closing announcement or
station name

[HCDX] HF Antennna Tuner Needed

2018-09-16 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Anyone have a dentron 80-10 antenna tuner or something similar? I have one
but something inside is starting to fail and I may not be able to find
someone to fix it. There's one on ebay for like $35 but it's the wire
tuner and I need one with a So239 connection on it.

I use this for tuning when listening to shortwave on my longwire. I've had
MFJ tuners before and will never by another one.

If anyone has a Dentron or something similar collecting dust they can let
go cheap, i would sure appreciate a heads up. (I'm only employed part time
right now and spend alot of my time SW DXing, but my budget is a bit
limited)

Just a heads up, some sites list Voice of Nigeria on 9690 at 2000 but one

comems in in Hausa at 2000 also on 9690 and VoN is still on... and it
sounds liek an absolute mess.

[HCDX] Toronto FM question

2018-08-05 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Can anyone in the Toronto area hear and confirm without a doubt if CJKX FM
2 95.9 Toronto booster shows the calls CJKX or would show CJKW?

I have a Sony XDRF1HD and the part of the display where it's just call
letters in BIG letters briefly showed CJKW and I am wondering if that was
corrupted PAD info or the boosters way of differentiating itself from the
main signal.

PSA's then the next program starts... but don't expect a VOV program to go
smoothly, it almost never does. I like them, but there's almost always some
technical glitch. One time an english slot was german for the first 5
minutes, another time there were constant audio drop outs

[HCDX] ZBM 89.1 Hamilton Bermuda & CKLQ 91.5 Brandon, MB heard in NW PA

2018-07-18 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
I wanted to share my 2 favorite FM DX Catches of the last few weeks, I'm a
little behind in posting some stuff.. but I like to save the posting of
logs to the interesting stuff

CKLQ-FM 91.5 Brandon, Manitoba. 100,000 Watts/1000 feet, 1192.49 miles
away and ZBM-FM 89..1 Hamilton, Bermuda. I am in Ridgway Pennsylvania,
about 80 miles southeast of Erie PA using a 5 element Kathrein Scala YA7
and modified Sony XDRF1HD Radio (www.xdrguy.com)

I heard CKLQ-FM 91.5 on Monday July 9th, 2018 between 204pm and 240pm
eastern/140pm central. Here are a few audio recordings

End of a newscast at 204pm eastern/104pm central:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MqL6d6fQ2PGlXqgXzOUlxI2F3apG9nFi/view?usp=sharing

Weather forecast at 205pm eastern
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Fz7eycl1iCsfXY61SAeIoaAktRUpvbXm/view?usp=sharing

At 224pm eastern, the signal fades up with a song and then at about 10
seconds in, there's a liner.. "cotton candy, ferris wheels, parades and
pancake breakfasts.. join us for Fair Season on QCountry 91.5" and then it
goes into a song. The signal gets fairly strong at time, with some deep
fades
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QYjq8boHNQimj8lLXXq_2YeBHxmqvQbc/view?usp=sharing

And here at 232pm eastern/132pm the signal is insanely strong for about 3
minutes, with some fades.. there's a "Westmans greatest country...Qcountry
91.5" liner at about 10 seconds in:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KL3mQmAZuNgw1z-oVFbA0TYWt0kTcQc9/view?usp=sharing

The signal is crunchy, grungy and crackly because I have a 250 Watt
transmitter on 91.1 about 2380 feet away.

What makes this a bit interesting is this came in off the back of my
antenna. My 5 element yagi was pointed east because pointing it west put it
in the path of a little 700 watt signal near Cleveland OH that would
overwhelm my antenna and radio.

I heard Ocean 89, ZBM Hamilton Bermuda on Wednesday June 27th 1027am with
live sports coverage and RDS even showed up.
Here's the audio recording:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/132xbUxiPLOfv3gW1WEqN2dQYf0upoAYy/view?usp=sharing
Here's the RDS:

[HCDX] Denver heard in NW PA.. and I almost logged myself!

2018-06-19 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
I had the analog of KIMN 100.3 Denver show up and the HD flash here around
819pm eastern.. and had all this skip activity gone 100 miles north, I
would had a chance of hearing myself doing afternoons on KLMI 106.1 Rock
River/Laramie, WY (2 hours behind Eastern time and i'M ON 3 TO 7PM THERE)

[HCDX] FM DX Logs from NW PA

2018-05-22 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
The most "productive" day of DX'ing this week was probably Thursday, with
several new stations logged. I did have some good logs from other parts of

[HCDX] For Sale: Icom IC746 Pro

2018-04-29 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Icom IC746 Pro for sale, in good condition. Asking what I paid, $600 plus
actual cost of shipping. (Actual shipping will be about $35 I think. Also,
No power supply included, the power supply would cost more to ship then its
worth but they are easy to find elsewhere)

I did SW DXing on it at my old location with an intention of getting my ham
license. But I never did and when I moved, the noise level here is beyond
atrocious. The IC746Pro has been sitting in the corner for 6 or more months
and I hate seeing good, somewhat expensive equipment sitting there unused.
I bought it in good condition from another ham.

I hate selling it, but I hate seeing it just sitting there!!

Email me, walkerbroadcast...@gmail.com if you're interested.

[HCDX] FM DX logs With Audio form NW Pennsylvania

2018-04-08 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Here's a few audio recordings of some recent catches in the last week or so

Ridgway, PA (NW corner of the state)
2000 feet in elevation
Sony XDRF1HD radio with 5 element Kathrein Scala YA7 Yagi

NEW LOG! Thursday April 5th, I had my radio on 103.5 and got a very quick
fade up at about 7:30pm, "...48 degrees outside the glass enclosed nerve
center in upper Northwest" and that's all I had before it disappeared.
Thanks to Scott Fybush, he told me this was 44KW/518 feet, 190.81 miles
distant WTOP Washington, DC!

Here's the audio with the temperature mention:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1AdcbazwU1mrwfOALOuHGMRKQO7GsMh0f/view?usp=sharing

About 90 minutes later I had another quick fade up with a story just
concluding from a reporter followed by the in studio anchor, ".. WTOP
News. Maryland's governor put pen to paper"

Here's the audio:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EoysfnIR1zQP6wxXAzlXom3ysNZ3gNrU/view?usp=sharing

I've already sent these clips to one of WTOP's engineers :)

NEW LOG!! CKOT-FM 101.3 Tillsonburg, Ontario. 26KW at 674 feet, 155.44
miles. This was made possible by the fact 45 mile distant 6kw equivalent
WKFT Strattanville, PA was off the air due to a power outage. CKOT is my
favorite log of the last week or two.

It was pretty easy to figure out I had something knew, the soft music they
were playing stuck out. I heard several "Easy 101" jingles, including this
station at just before 9am on Wednesday April 4th:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Vk_ZXGKR1eN9PhF7M5Gh4rCMGcAqfZ4x/view?usp=sharing

And here they are with a station jingle into a live announcer talking:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jXY5GecuOiRvxl2oMlTPz2V_7n57t60M/view?usp=sharing

And here they are with a jingle then into a song. The signal got real weak
at times, fading up and down, but overall this little bit of reception hung
on for nearly 4 minutes unlike the usual 5-10-20 second fade ups.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/19XdUkoqEU_GtyktZUpKOKLtgE0AVxz1o/view?usp=sharing

And at about 947am, here is when WKFT signs back on and blasts CKOT out of
the water:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_-g-nbi4358E7JoKE77tJVkJpSWRYpcC/view?usp=sharing

NEW LOG!! WMHR-FM 102.9 Syracuse, NY. 20KW/789 feet, 167.72 miles. I wasn't
hearing the usual "OK!102.9" AC music or "Y103" classic rock. At first, I
had a preacher and then some Christian music. It would fade up for 20-25
seconds at a time.

Here's two of the longer, more prominent, clear audio recordings of music
on WMHR:

Nick, I think several people on faceboom have called it Tropo scatter...
BUT... I’m a total newbie in FM DXing, so I lean on others for more detail.

Thing is, this scatter, of whatever variety it is, is near constant it
seems... and I didn’t think aircraft scatter would do that

CFLY 98.3 and CBCK 107.5 Kingston, Ontario are both about 100KW at 500
feet, 220 miles away from me. It seems like I have "constant" tropo scatter
from them the last few months.

Ridgway PA
2000 feet elevation
Sony XDRF1HD Radio and Kathrein Scala YA7 5 element yagi antenna

The fade ups will come out of nowhere and last 5-15 seconds usually, but
sometimes a bit longer. It happens in the morning, at night.. I haven't
noticed a time when it isn't happening.

I suspect My height, the fact the frequencies are pretty empty here and
that the transmitter sites are close to water make this possible.

Here's a few recent audio clips of CBCK 107.5 and CFLY 98.3

[HCDX] A response from Radio Kuwait! Well, sort of.....

2018-03-15 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
I got a small packages from Kuwait today. A couple of observations:

A.) It had clearly been opened and inspected, no attempt whatsoever to hide
it, tidy that up.

B.) No QSL card from Radio Kuwait, just a calendar. Hey, I'm happy.. it's
SOMETHING... I'd been trying to get a response out of them for MONTHS!!

C.) They addressed the package to me by taking a letter I'd sent them, and
right below my signature, cutting off the address part and taping that to
the envelope.

I am not complaining, it is something for sure, and more then I had before!!

[HCDX] FM DX Logs from Northwest PA

2018-03-09 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Here's a few FM DX logs from Northwest Pennsylvania in the last little
while. This isn't everything I've logged but what I find interesting for
one reason or another and is presented in no particular order.

Details: Ridgway PA (NW corner of the state halfway between Olean NY and
State College, PA). 2000 feet elevation free of nearby terrain
obstructions, one of the highest residential points in this part of the
state.

Equipment: Sony XDRF1HD radio, Kathrein Scala YA7 Yagi antenna and Zoom H1
handheld digital recorder.

Now for the actual logs:

NEW!! NEW!! CJDL 107.3 Tillsonburg, Ontario 7.8KW at 738 feet, 155 miles NW
of me. This was possible since 50KW local blowtorch WCOH Du Bois was off
the air due to a power outage on Friday March 2nd. Reception happened in
the 8 and 9am hours and the fade ups didn't last long when they occured.,
The signal on fade ups was FAIR, I'd say. Here some audio:

"Anywhere With You" by The Dungarees:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jvMUSa-5ABjGgveopauCjpMqWWrVNCZ7/view?usp=sharing

"Are You Sure Hank Done It This way" by Waylon Jennings followed by Country
107.3 liner and then followed by another song:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xYseKFnp3DMxqelMOAkYLbhL2DtBs7aB/view?usp=sharing

Here's a Country 107.3 weather forecast with temperatures and Country 107.3
jingle
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kVROqj7Ah31qSHgqYARfX1BFI8K_vXFy/view?usp=sharing

(The picture in this post is the tower holding the CJDL antennas on Plank
Line at the Union Road intersection in Ingersoll, Ontario.)

NEW!! "Country 89" CKYY 89.1 Welland, Ontario 4.5KW/428 feet at about 120
miles. YES! I've been trying for this one for MONTHS well, JUST because. I
have to get past WKSV Thompson, OH, WCOV Friendship/Olean, NY and CBLA-FM-2
Kitchener, Ont to hear CKYY... all of them with alot more power and height
and more potent signals. Heck, WKSV lights up RDS here regularly and has
even locked on HD.

Well, on Monday March 5pm I *FINALLY" heard a country song on 89.1, Chris
Young's "Aw Naw" followed by a "Country 89" liner then "When you call my
name" by Paul Brandt. The station was gone after about a minute, but it
COUNTS as a logging in my book! Here's the audio:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sof-cx77ZjLtXEo-__4g46-PhIJKwlLW/view?usp=sharing

"105.1 The River" CJED Niagara Falls, Ontario. 15KW/420 feet , 120 miles. A
recent format flip from Top 40/pop music to Adult Hits type stuff. I've
heard it as 2DAY FM before but this was the first time with the new format.
It produced a pretty good signal on and off for several hours on Monday
March 5th. Here's two audio clips:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nw4v6OncSSJKpzBjdq7ATF2fTSkWntP2/view?usp=sharing
anf this one:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JqQvXJgM3-p78mmvEAg7j3cUaCAnyz6N/view?usp=sharing

"KFun 99.5" CKKW Hamilton, Ontario. 4.3KW at 364 feet, about 160 miles.
Heard with music and KFun 99.5 liners. This station is not new but rare, as
WGAR Cleveland and WDCX Buffalo are more often heard here, usually WDCX. I
have heard CKKW before but usually fairly weak and not lasting long. This
day, KFun 99.5 produced a really good signal for about 5 minutes. Here's
the audio:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sof-cx77ZjLtXEo-__4g46-PhIJKwlLW/view?usp=sharing

"Country 105" CFDC 104.9 Shelburne, Ontario. 38.5KW at 316 feet at 211
miles. This isn't new, but rare here because of WRKT North East, PA and
another nearby translator. It produced a fairly decent signal at times on
Saturday March 3 in the 9pm. The brusts of signal weren't super log but
overall ok. Here's some audio:

A song then dj Casey Clark talking
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1901ogB4bGP3a1skq8eOK0SDiRNNL1KKN/view?usp=sharing

Weather forecast
https://drive.google.com/file/d/17MjbU-ikwu4wMdIglML-5ljAUsEABpnw/view?usp=sharing

More music, Eric Church's "Creepin"
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Z09RZvL-xaOKeObNWEH9Euky8vVDO4Qw/view?usp=sharing

"KX94.7" CHKX Hamilton, Ontario 100kw Max ERP/40KW minimum ERP, 458 feet at
135 miles NW of me (I don't think i'm in the main lobe of CHKX, but im not
in a huge null, either)

I am 1 1/2 miles from W233BS 94.5 with 250 watts so hearing stuff on 94.3
and 94.7 isnt too hard but CHKX while not new and not rare, isnt heard
terribly often. Ir produced a good signal on Monday March 5th for about 5
minutes at 1025. Here's the audio:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/13ZDbR9Ef90rvsFjnQSQRHAfCR11l-5oa/view?usp=sharing

CKNC-FM 99.7 Simcoe, Ontario. 18kw at 85 feet, about 120 miles. This one is
usually fairly weak if it's heard. Not rare but not too regular. I got a
good signal out of it for a few minutes Monday March 5pm in the 10pm hour.
Here's some audio:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/11YwyOU98ls94ED9y6S8V2HDm7PW6qHNY/view?usp=sharing

"Country 106.7" CIKZ Kitchener, Ontario. 5KW at 650 feet, 170 miles NW of
me. This one is somewhat kinda regular, but often not too strong. Monday
March 5th produced a pretty good signal with some music and spots. Here's
audio:

And I was just alerted to the fact I put KFun 99.5 CKKW in Hamilton, when
it's really in Kitchener. OOPS. Sometimes when typing up logs, My mind gets
things confused or crossed together and I dont catch it even when checking
logs before hitting send.

Sorry again

[HCDX] Some FM DX Logs

2018-01-11 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Here are some of my logs from the last week or so of FM DXing. This isn't
everything, but rather some of my favorites.

Location: Ridgway, Pennsylvania (NW corner of the state). 2000 feet in
elevation.
Equipment: Sangean HDT1, 5 element log periodic FM Antenna (soon to be
upgraded to 9 element log periodic!) and Zoom H1 digital recorder.

I had my first Canadian HD DX lock. CING, 95.3 Fresh Radio Hamilton Ontario
has flashed the HD logo before on the radio but never locked. I finally
nabbed CING HD1, 2 and 3 and Tuesday Jan 9th and Wed January 10th.

Here's CING 95.3 HD1 with a Shawn Hook song into DJ chatter and then into a
commercial break. Tue Jan 9th about 945pm, audio is here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eWiCoxDcgcDk2J1Y526S_HnNuOxBt7T9/view?usp=sharing

Here's CING 95.3 HD2 with a commercial then a promo for a Sunday show on
CFMJ 640, which is the programming feed on HD2. The lock didn't hold for
very long, only about 20 seconds. Tue Jan 9th at 817pm, audio is here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pfkXdOVz0Yt3hroRT11bTDV00Zb5usnU/view?usp=sharing

CING 95.3 HD3 is a simulcast of CHML 900. The lock held for a few minutes
on Wed Jan 10th at 1024am, audio is here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rOIuUpcuOtW7K9uYfPVa-y6R3gs5IGkG/view?usp=sharing

Mix 98.9 WMXY Youngstown, OH completely wiped out local WQKY Emporium, PA
for over 30 minutes on Wednesday January 10th beginning just after 8am.
Here's the audio:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/10ol0OY_DnlwQAVELP1BDLt4Bar4xfQx2/view?usp=sharing

WUGN-FM 99.7 Midland, MI is a new lock. It showed up on Tuesday January 9th
about 630am and held out some kind of signal till a bit after 7am. It was
real weak, staticy and would only bubble up for a few seconds at a time
usual. I heard several Family Life mentions, including the web address and
then match this segment on 99.7 FM to their webstream. Audio:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/146hjcgJai0snWRb-T7vFdbjcfqFfz-De/view?usp=sharing

I logged "B94"( WBZZ 100.7 HD2, Pittsburgh) on WEdnesday January 10th about
9am. The lock held for several minutes. This is the first time I logged any
part of WBZZ 100.7. Here's audio:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/14hWFLb4XwRnNL6bYW1BAXck51HtlKg4k/view?usp=sharing

I've had WDSY 107.9 HD before, but just logged the HD2 (simulcast of WBZZ
100.7 analog) and HD3(KDKA Traffic/Weather Together). WDSY 107.9 HD1
country music sounds pretty good too! Here's audio from 114am on Wednesday
January 10th:

[HCDX] 3 New Logs on 99.7 and 1 on 97.9

2018-01-06 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
I logged 3 NEW stations on 99.7 FM on Friday. NY, NH and VA.

WNTK New London, NH. 1400 Watts/676 feet at 330 miles NE of me. All I got
was about 5 seconds worth of a commercial for "Newport Chevrolet". WNTK
General Manager Matt Cross confirmed that it was in fact WNTK who ran that
very ad at 856am Friday Jan 5th. Here's the audio:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MojuRU8yNFI-f8CZlOzusraZdY0YY5CS/view?usp=sharing

WZXV Palmyra, NY (Rochester). 2800 Watts/486 feet at 130 miles
North/Northeast of me. Heard during several fade ups on Friday but the most
identifying/unique clip is where they mention their call letters and also
one of their translators. Audio:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/18ZUX4zVjLPFgVMXnMiF47CL0TFbtCtG2/view?usp=sharing

WYFI Norfolk, VA. 50KW/486 feet at 330 miles SE of me. All I got was about
4 seconds worth of a preacher talking but it didn't match WZXV, WGCK in VA,
or WJUX in NY so I went looking. In looking, I found WYFI, checked out the
BBN program schedule and was able to match my 4 seconds of audio to the 3
minute 40 second mark of that day's "Love Worth Finding" with Adrian

[HCDX] Montana FM Heard in Pennsylvania

2017-12-31 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
KMCJ 99.5 Miles City, Montana. 100KW at 801 feet. 1413 miles to my
Northwest.

Heard at 6:36pm Eastern/4:36pm Mountain Sun Dec 31st with "20 The Countdown
with Jon Rivers". Audio clip with another station mixing in at times, but
you'll clearly here the Jon Rivers show:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LPuSw4MEMODCvdVmLXTjQrGB68Fj2JrV/view?usp=sharing

About 6:47pm caught a local break with several "Your Network Of Praise"
Mentions (YNOP is the name of their regional network in MT/WY/ID). Audio of
the YNOP mentions:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QjtogyfS2EIgkshk9xuy334Q5P02oNd3/view?usp=sharing

Straight up 7pm, I heard their conga line Network ID of all their stations
in Montana, Wyoming & Idaho. Audio:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pyQHnAGy9oO5-zhU1Pg6EX_IRHDU2MQC/view?usp=sharing
(You won't actually hear a KMCJ ID but you'll hear all their other stations
mentions and "20 The Countdown with Jon Rivers" is on the YNOP schedule)

Location: Ridgway, Pennsylvania (NW corner between State College, PA and
Olean, NY)
Equipment: Sangean HDT1 and 5 element log periodic 88-108mhz antenna

[HCDX] FM DX from NW PA

2017-12-22 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Here are my favorite FM DX Catches over the last week or so. It's not
everything I've logged, but these are my favorites. Location: Ridgway, PA
at 2000 feet in elevation with Sangean HDT1 and 5 element log periodic FM
Antenna. Largely free of terrain obstructions and at almost the highest
point in town.

"Country 105" with a female, mentioning the sponsor of a traffic report is
an Orangeville business. 50kw/269 feet at 212 miles on Fri Dec 22nd, 2017
at 8:01am Eastern.

Audio:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rh2oq6siQMx7h69LF2KlLVcWxqke0FlW/view?usp=sharing

WDSY-FM 107.9 Pittsburgh, PA. 17,500 Watts/827 feet at 93 mile. Somewhat
good of a catch since 107.9 is usually the WCED-AM translator from 30 miles
away which is nearly line of sight to me on the hill. But, I also got
WDSY's HD2 which is a simulcast of 100.7 Star, their full power Hot AC
signal and HD3 is an automated KDKA Traffic & Weather Together format.

>From Thursday Dec 21, 2017 around 830am eastern, here's audio.

HD2:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1D2Pib8kXyV6bu3B8ZB4U3DyRK46LRuNy/view?usp=sharing

HD3:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bht9MUgVikDtfuXiPCwpvjInD_Mc2Ted/view?usp=sharing

WLER-FM 97.7 Butler, PA. 6KW Equivalent Class A at about 75 miles SW of me.
Made a decent catch because RDS lit up, but also because it is one click
over from 50KW blowtorch WDDH 97.5 (where I work)

Audio from 10:08am Eastern Thursday December 21, 2017:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Whtnmgisz56aSkmfagW4G5PdDx38uuPz/view?usp=sharing

BX93, CJBX 92.7 London, Ontario. 50KW/397 feet from about 160 miles away.
Local ads and BX93 liner with country music, wiping out semi local C93,
WCCR Clarion PA about 45 miles SW of me.

Audio:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/14qcSQMn-p5NoZPiqOiPgFB41Z9aeSKTU/view?usp=sharing

CKDK-FM 103.9 Woodstock/London, Ontario 51KW at about 400 feet from roughly
160 miles away. Solid signal, walloping the beejbers out of semi local WAGL
130.9 about 40 miles NE of me for about half hour.

Audio
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-bh_SoUBko8cm7Y3DwEP4m8QOBVh3PI0/view?usp=sharing

"Q Country 107", WSAQ 107.1 Port Huron, Michigan. 6KW Class A at about 230
miles away with male DJ Talking between songs and mentioning Q Country 107.

Audio:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1muacsHMLxOQuOWveRgq18OboduI0FaOa/view?usp=sharing

Mix 94.1 WHBC Canton, OH. About 140 miles for this 50KW signal, which isnt
hugely far. But I am only 1 mile from the 25,000 Watt WKBI 93.9 Signal...
it is WKBI causing that warmth, distortion and overmodulation.

Audio:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1owYX1jLx75wX1flXcYrPr5OLbuW4Bgct/view?usp=sharing

Country 106, CIKZ 106.7 Kitchener Ontario with 5KW at about 600 feet at
about 150-160 miles with country countdown show.

Audio:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1oA3-HJpuywli30GYtb-bWAzHlDBYZWLe/view?usp=sharing

KLite 102.9, CKLH Hamilton, Ontario. 40,3000 watts/400 feet from about 160
miles away with Christmas music and announcer mentioning KLite 102.9,
wiping out semi local OK!102.9 WOKW

audio:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pxSFd4wogVMcObexUysg9uE2AeFQn2cD/view?usp=sharing

Fresh Radio 103.1, CFHK St Thomas/London, Ontario. 60KW at about 600 feet,
from 150-160 miles away with Fresh 103.1 mentions and DJ. Wiping out semi
local 103.1 The Fox WQFX Russell, PA/Jamestown, NY

Audio:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kJ-hBQ7J8Od8KsSiXtQpz9aeaxtRsGdl/view?usp=sharing

92.9 The Grand CHTG Haldimand, Ontario. 10KW at about 350 feet from 130-140
miles away. Local commercials and 92.9 The Grand jingle.

Audio:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/15utGBjKrb1GHGTCnPymyqSvk3ySnAmUS/view?usp=sharing

CFMZ 96.3 Toronto, Ontario. 24,000 Watts at about 900 feet form about 170

[HCDX] FM DX NW PA Thu Dec 7th

2017-12-08 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Only 4 things of note in my FM DX'ing from Thursday December 7th. And they
weren't even that "special". Sangean HDT1, 5 element log periodic antenna
at 2000 feet in elevation.

I had 93.7 The Fan KDKA Pittsburgh, PA making it through the B94, WKBI 93.9
slop (the tower is 1 mile away from me).

Here's some audio:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1iNeuI0PbogKO-queOtODmDMo3BBKsb3k/view?usp=sharing

Instead of "Jewel 92" CKPC, I had W221BD 92.1 Dubois, PA. 27 watts at 86
feet, 25 miles to my South. A relay of WPSU 91.5 State College, PA. A match
to WPSX 90.1 Kane, PA as well. No RDS showing. The signal is noisy and weak
but good enough to hear the programming.

Audio here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dWvbRTllXqPRUHPBXAnUkKvqqzdHEB7D/view?usp=sharing

Booster WDDH-FM1 with 250 watts used to be on the same tower as 92.1. One
time when the main transmitter for WDDH-FM near Kane had gone off the air,
I could hear the booster with just a table top radio and whip antenna.

Here's Hot 92, WJHT 92.1 Johnstown, PA. About 65 miles away with DJ mention
and community interview.

Audio here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/12eRD0CasVhVKTKF0tj1KfSQTqNqhZMgS/view?usp=sharing

Here's a pretty good signal from "Mixmas 97.1", WREO Ashtabula, OH with a
Christmas tune and some DJ chatter.

[HCDX] TV tuner for PC?

2017-12-06 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
I’ve never done tv DXing before but with my height advantage here, I want
to try it.

I have no idea what’s good and what’s not, but I know there’s crap out
there and you get what you pay for.

I have a Win XP laptop I’m not using I can Dedicate to this.

I’d like to stick to something I can buy on Amazon, and keep it under $150
if possible.

Can someone offer some suggestions?

And if I need some capture software, can someone recommend sone that will
record off the tuner? I’m willing to, again, spend a decent amount of money
for this maybe $50? Just basic recording and maybe basic editing.

Remember, totally new and clueless to this.

2000 feet in elevation with a Sangean HDT1 and 5 element yagi 15 feet off

it a bit interesting.

about 30 miles to my south was off the air this morning. 747AM with legal
id 13 minutes later in the clip straight up at 8am

WLER-FM 97.7 Butler, PA. A 6KW Class A about 71 miles to my SW, one dial

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LekFZoK61eCJtVdTman7tH4ALGmFs-rn/view?usp=sharing

WBXQ-FM 94.3 Patton, PA A 6KW Equivalent Class A at about 51 miles away.
One dial channel over from W233BS 94.5, a super power super height
translator only 1 mile from my antenna.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nqAPNlVgf9WpW8pjvoJw6DTvHCQuBTev/view?usp=sharing

WPCL-FM 97.3 Spangler.. er "Northern Cambria", Pennsylvania. A 6kw
equivalent Class A about 62 miles to my southwest. One dial click over from
50KW powerhouse WDDH 97.5, and a former simulcast station for 97.5 Saint
Marys, PA in a former life, when it was 97.5 KYN.

[HCDX] FM DX from NW PA

2017-11-27 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Sangean HDT1, 5 element Yagi at 2000 feet in elevation
Ridgway, Pennsylvania

Had a strong enough signal Sunday night to get RDS lock on CBCL 93.5
London, Ontario from 150 miles north of me.
Here's some audio:
https://app.box.com/s/b8mb6l59pm1j9zkunekyztm99fw48hwz

WGPR, Hot 107.5 Detroit seems to have some path right to my radio at 233.5
miles away.
Here's some audio from over the weekend:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1R80Dqj4H9grMoIcpE3pGTee9Ea2mrT-s/view
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XmlPKYUwHPejfAJ_amVY4TzjX9YKgeo-/view

Here's catholic WAOB 106.7 Beaver Falls, PA at about 100 miles away. Signal
was strong enough to trip the RDS on my radio
Audio: https://app.box.com/s/a1vkjusae82jflmquzkxo6vvj441cl4y

Here's Q92, WDJQ 92.5 Alliance, Ohio. 133 miles form their tower to my
radio. Pretty good, near local like signal
Audio: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yWlaU02nPGzXfKW6uCgKfUz0Esz_
nnNb/view?usp=sharing

This is WKSV 89.1 Thompson, OH with a strong enough signal at about 130
miles to have the RDS lock on, audio:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rf6XCss8nCnXiprQL_MlkfnM1ZxVuTUv/view?usp=
sharing

My other favorite from the weekend, "Jewel 92" CKPC 92.1 Brantford, Ontario
at 150 miles north. It tripped the RDS several times. Audio:
https://app.box.com/s/7kc6f4elp1p667wcv5gudm3akx5e7lzk

I also had a solid RDS lock on 104.7 The Heart FM CIHR Woodstock, Ontario
from about 150 miles away with some rocking 80s music. Audio:
https://app.box.com/s/nfgsx8dsyulxlaygchp6dwikkbpmeyn4

I have discovered over the last 3 days that a good RDS lock on a signal
over 100 miles away is considered "good" but may not necessarily be "DX"

[HCDX] My favorite TP signals

2017-11-20 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
When living in Alaska from December 2015 to April 2017, I had some amazing
DX despite frigidly cold temperatures.

One of my favorite regular catches was Eagle 810, part of AFN Tokyo from
Yokota Air Base, Japan.

The 50,000 Watts non directional signal was a regular visitor. some days it
was good, some days it wasn't. but it was almost always "IN".

Regardless of signal strength, it always behaved the same... about an hour,
90 minutes before sunset.. it would show up.. it would stay pretty steady

reactivated it's 6250khz. I heard it 3 days in a row fairly well here in NW
Pennsylvania, USA. Unforuntately, I have not heard it since and I don't
think anyone else has.

Well, I mailed them a reception report in early August by regular post. A
CD with audio files, a written reception reports, a few post cards from my
town and printed pictures of my radio listening set up. Cost me $13USD.

I got an email this morning from an english speaking journalist at the
station this morning

"Hello Walker.

I don´t want you to be surprise. I am a journalist and work for Equatorial
Guinea´s national radio. I am called Mateo believe you. I run an English
program every Wednesday and Friday at 9 am local time. My boss told me to
get in touch with you.

So I am looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks for your concern. We are
very happy for this notification. Please keep on updating us about what you

[HCDX] Oman 15140khz- Why I Listen & Post So much.

2017-11-01 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
People complain that there's nothing but talk, religion and politics left
on Shortwave. I choose to listen to 90.4 Oman FM on shortwave because it is
something different. We have to support the stations we have left on
Shortwave or soon what little we have will begin disappearing.

Let the stations you listen to know you're listening. Even if they don't
always answer back, trust me, they've noticed you're writing and have
notice that you're listening

One station or another on Shortwave may not be exactly what you're after
but open your mind a bit and you'll find something to enjoy.

Wether you or others want to admit it, Shortwave is slowly dwindling and
with good reason. Technology, smartphones, internet and etc.. sure there
are countries where internet is expensive/slow or heavily censored but can
an organization afford to spend hundreds of thousands a year for what may
be a few hundred listeners a month? Lets face it, we in the US are lucky..
we have my money and the ease of access much better listening equipment. A
moderately sized portion of what we hear like Radio New Zealand
International, Radio Australia and BBC is just spill over from being in an
area for a good second hop. We were never in the stations target area.
Sure, the BBC and others have ceased targeting the US on SW, and why should
they? For a few hundred listeners when much better high quality tech is out
there?

Some ask why I listen to shortwave at all when I could listen on a
smartphone app in many cases? I do listen to Oman FM via their Smartphone
app from time to time, but to me there is something really cool about
hearing a radio station from many many many thousands of miles away.

Anyways, it was another fantastic signal and good audio today Nov 1 at
1510UTC from my favorite shortwave relay, 90.4 Oman FM via 15140khz
(100,000 watts) in Thumrait, Oman  Oman FM is an english language
hit/pop music station with some classic tracks tossed in and the Thumrait
shortwave site on 15140khz, 12015khz, 9540khz, 13660khz relays Oman as well
as others. Both the FM and SW stations are owned by the sultanate Of Oman
government.

Here's a short video of 15140khz this morning, November 1st at 1510UTC

https://player.vimeo.com/video/240844962

I should note that 15140khz has been alot better as of late.. noticeably
better. Even after I upgraded my antenna early this summer there were days
were the signal was poor and audio was way down in the noise. But, for the
last few weeks, its been anywhere between fair to excellent.

[HCDX] Tip: Kuwait 15110khz DRM

2017-10-31 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Apparently, Kuwait has been spotted lighting up another DRM Broadcast. Hat
tip for this goes to Mauno Ritola, the WRTH Facebook page and another user
there.

I have 15110khz here in Pennsylvania, and if this were analog it'd be a
pretty good signal but DRM is not holding lock and only revealing bleeps
and blurbs of audio now and then.

[HCDX] TWO NEW ONES!! 960khz

2017-10-25 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Although not at super great distances, I'll take a new log anywhere anyway
I can get it!

WATS 960 Sayre, PA and WHYL 960 Carlisle, PA at about 535pm eastern time
Wednesday October 25.

Heard 2 stations on 960khz swapping positions. Heard an ad for a financial
investment office that traced back to Carlisle, PA. That's WHYL 960.

I then heard an ad for a chiropractic business which traced back to
Waverly, NY. Thats WATS 960

Warren, PA (my location) to Sayre, PA is 136 miles.
Warren, PA to Carlisle, PA is 151 miles.

Here's an audio recording, the female voice is WHYL, the male voice is WATS

https://app.box.com/s/5lsnint9ohqcd4gwttkkm44232tnqdjx

Choice 102, WATS was the more dominant signal on 960

Here's a "Choice 102" liner back into a song:
https://app.box.com/s/kd67diyueousk12hmsup1qktv8y78vc0

Here's an ad mentioning local businesses in Waverly, NY/Sayre, PA and
Choice 102:

[HCDX] My Ever Evolving Radio Listening Post

2017-10-23 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
My Shortwave listening set up continues to evolve and I thought some people
would like to see what I've been up to . Here's a collage look at pictures
I took today. (Click the imgur.com link nelow)

https://imgur.com/a/6A8Wz

I have honestly had a few people ask what I do/use/how I do it, so I
thought I'd share this.

Let me say this then explain the set up with a few comments..Except for the
Wellbrook antenna amplifier/controller, all the antenna pieces were bought
on amazon. Then me, who is not a handy, patient, instruction reading type
of person put this all together in about 30 minutes the first day I got it.

Thanks to Colin Newell in Victoria, BC, Canada.. Thomas Witherspoon at
SWLing.com and Andy at Wellbrook for answering my incessant quesitons which
encouraged me and propelled me to put this all together.

Considering my location which is 50 feet from a major intersection in town
and just a few blocks from downtown, I do pretty darn good noise and
reception wise.. plus, this has certianly made a HUGE difference in my
reception over the average Wellbrook premade magnetic loop, the W6LVP and
Doxytronics loops.

Top left picture is my radio listening table. The radio is an Icom
IC-746Pro. Om top of it is a Zoom H1 handheld digital recorder with an
audio in port that gets audio from the ICOM's audio out jack.

The small box/speaking looking thing is an Tecsun ICR100 that functions as
an external speaker. On the brown chair is an EmTech ZM 2 antenna tuner. A
DXEngineering HF PreAmp(boosts the signal about 15db) is next to it on the
tbale.

The DXEngineerinf HF Preamp isn't really needed as the Icom radio has it's
own 2 stage amplifier you can select manually, but I sometimes still use it
on weak signals. As well, the Icom also has it's own built in tuner you
manually activate but I still use the EmTech ZM2 antenna tuner as it still
does help a bit on tuning up a signal to be stronger and less fade-y.

The top right picture is my antenna. Single conductor 22 gauge electrical
hook up wire runs up the side of a speaker stand with 1 1/4 inch pvc pipe
jhammed on top for extra height. The antenna wire runs to the top of the
pvc pipe, and goes 25 feet out to another pvc pipe/speaker stand and down
the side. then two ends of the wire meet in the middle.

The two ends of the wire connect to a Wellbrook ALA100LN antenna amplifier
and then to a antenna/radio interface box.

The bottom left picture is a close up view of my radio listening gear

The bottom right picture is a view of the 30 amp power supply the radio
requires.

The radio and power supply each weigh about 20 pounds. My gear is outside
and is not permanent. I must carry it out when I want to use it and back in
when I am done.

[HCDX] Radio Kuwait DRM

2017-10-22 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
I really wish Radio Kuwait could manage to keep their DRM transmissions on
the air

I have literally been watching the UTwente SDR waterfall and seen the
signal disappear I have also logged onto the UTwente SDR when Kuwait
13650khz Arabic DRM and 15540 khz English DRM should've been on but weren't

I've scanned by 13650khz and 15540khz on my radios at home and had no
carrier whatsoever.

When a signal can hold lock and stay put, it sound pretty good and the
music is a nice change of pace from everything else on the Shortwave radio
dials.

I don't understand why, about a 18 months ago, they spent gobs and gobs of
money rehabbing their analog shortwave site and upgrading some gear to do
DRM if they can't even keep it running.

2017-10-20 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
I keep a log and Audio of what I actually keep on my log... but don’t log
everything simply because that’s all I’d ever do, and I don’t keep logs of
stuff I’m not interested in just for the sake of a log or QSL card.

Thanks for the comments;)

Re: [HCDX] [ptsw] Banging Barrel Of Brick S9+50 Signal From Oman 15140khz!

2017-10-20 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
After having had breakfast and getting my day started, I had some time and
wanted to add a few thoughts.

Am I a little over zealous at times with some of my logs? Sure, but who
isn't? Even the longest serving most experienced Dx'er gets excited about
something. After nearly 20 years of DX'ing and almost 15 years working in
broadcasting here in the US, DX'ing and how it all works still fascinates
me even though I understand the basics of all it all works.

I love the fiddling of knobs, twisting of dials and hearing a radio signal
from halfway around the world.,

Do I get information wrong? yes, sometimes I am slightly inaccurate, but I
do my best to present accurate facts and information surrounding my logs.

I no longer send out daily or even weekly typed up multi station logs, I
just don't have the time, energy or enthusiasm to do that anymore. I send
out what i think is noteworthy for whatever reason or another.

If you don't like what I have to say or don't wish to read it, that is your
right and I am by no means offended by it. Delete my email and move on.
Some people log utility, mil comms or WX stations that I don't have an
interest in, but I just delete and move on.

I love this hobby, love sharing it with others and plan to continue
participating and sharing in it.

Paul

The station is missing its liners between songs, after commercial breaks

[HCDX] Mystery Asian 15140khz Carrier

2017-10-17 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
I've been chasing this signal on the UTwente SDR for weeks, if not a month
or more.

It will pop up just after 1400UTC, with a dead carrier, audio will appear
and just before 1402UTC, the signal disappears.

I recorded UTwente SDR this morning, the news intro theme sounds like it's
CRI possibly and I think the language is chinese?

What's puzzling is CRI is scheduled for this frequency from 0100-0300UTC.
No one but Oman is scheduled for 15140 at this hour (1400UTC) and it would
be english or arabic.

Here's the recording:

Any idea who this is, what language this is and what they're saying?

[HCDX] Troubleshooting a crackling noise on my HF/SW radio(s)

2017-10-16 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Uggh, I've been pulling my hair out over crackling I'm hearing on the HF/SW
bands for the last month or so.

It'd gotten to the pointed where most of HF was unlistenable. I'd put an AM
Broadcast filter in line and that didn't seem to negate anything even in
the slightest. I switched out a few cables and tuner, didn't help.

So I pulled out the cards one by one in my JRC NRD535D, inspecting them for
any burnt odor or appearance. Nope, so I reseated them.. and viola, the
problem seemed to go away.

Well, it started coming back again. So, I put another radio in it's place
and it still happened.

So, I did the only thing left that I hadn't done yet and unplugged my
Wellbrook ALA100LN giant magnetic loop.. and boom, the noise is gone.

Somewhere, something has gone faulty in the Wellbrook. I'm getting some
Deoxit in the mail and will spray down/clean off a few things and see if
it's just a rusty connection somewhere.. it sounds kinda "rusty" or dirty
somewhere if you know what I mean?

The only constant between all of this is the Wellbrook, when I got rid of
that from the equation, the noise went away.

I don't think it's heat because the two Wellbrook boxes are pretty well
shielded These things have been outside in the rain, so I suspect water has
gotten to something that shouldn't

I'm also going to replace the cabling between the antenna and the radio
gear and replace the actual antenna wire too.

This has been driving me crazy because it's ruining my HF/SW reception. I
can't think of anything else it could be besides the Wellbrook so now I
just have to figure out EXACTLY what's wrong with the Welbrook.,

FYI, this is what I have:
http://www.loop-antennas.com/North_American/ALA100LN-2
my antenna wire is 25 feet long by 10 feet tall and in the shape of a
volleyball net magnetic loop antenna.

[HCDX] Something that make a DX’s heart skip a beat...

2017-10-10 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Batteries in my Wellbrook ALA100LN amplifier controller go dead, ok that’s
normal. I replace them.

Plug in, and the light won’t light up. I double check. Still won’t light
up. I thought the Wellbrook amp controller had broken somehow

Check the batteries and I had one in backwards switch it and the
Wellbrook amp controller turned on

I breathed a sigh of relief

[HCDX] Radio Kuwait DRM

2017-10-10 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
I think they must have be having some serious break downs, or something...

Just after 1pm, I checked 13650khz Arabic and got a good signal signal to
get the text to decode but audio wouldn't lock on.. it was teetering right
on what was useable., so I went for a walk thinking it'd pick up and be a
bit stronger later.

I come back just after 2pm, 13650 is gone and 15540 is nowhere to be seen
on my radios at home and checking UTwente, nothing on the waterfall there
either.

I was watching the UTwente waterfall a few days ago and saw 15540 DRM drop
off just about 1947, over an hour ahead of schedule.

[HCDX] Radio Cairo Shortwave

2017-10-07 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
I think Radio Cairo has 9800kHz On early, ahead of its 2215UTC English Sign
On. This the french service that should be on 9895kHz but isn’t

And the Audio is utter distorted trash. GARBAGE even by Radio Cairo’s
standards and that says a lot.

Radio Cairo could bung up a one car funeral without much effort
