Wallstreet battery charger

Does anyone have the manual for a VST external battery charger for
wallstreet batteries ? I need to know what the light sequences mean.

thanks,

  but I think
that the main batteries have to be in working order for the PRAM battery to
 recharge.

Why - I would have thought it was more likely to recharge if there were no
batteries in taking current ?

I have charged batteries with a dead PRAM on the Wallstreet II and also
had a working PRAM hold the data (dates and so on) without a working
battery or even without one. So I think they are unrelated. But the
charge board coudl have been damaged I suppose or there is no contact
internally. Also there is the issue with shielding tape touching the
outer ring on the power adapter connector.

I'd try the batteries in another wallstreet and if dead there too I'd put
them in a freezer to see if that coudl help (as have been discussed on
the list. Have had no such luck myself). Also had a total reset revive
things once in a WS I.

If dead, remember to give the batteries to an Apple Centre for destruction.

Re: Wallstreet battery probs?

2005-04-21 Thread Stanton Mitrany
I thought I had fried my PMU (power management unit) and my Wallstreet II
battery a few weeks ago, but followed advice given on this list to run
Battery Reset from Apple. Didn't work. But I tried it twice more, and it
still didn't work. Tried it again two days later, when the battery still
showed no charge.

Then I noticed the other day that, WOW! The battery was now fully charged!

Moral of the story? Have patience. Apparently using Battery Reset, perhaps
repeatedly, and then giving things some time - in my case, more than a week
- and good results may ensue.

Re: Wallstreet battery probs?, try battery reset software?

2005-04-21 Thread Andrew in Ann Arbor
Hi, gang. - just picked up a Series II Wallstreet 266.

It won't start up unless AC adapter's connected. It came with two BTI
batteries but neither one shows any charge lights when installed, and
there's no indication that they're charging.
 Red X through battery icon
in menu bar, Battery Monitor CS module options greyed out.
 I've pulled
the batteries and disconnected AC, gonna let it sit a while then check
if it's still holding time; couldn't be as simple as needing new PRAM
battery, could it? Anybody seen similar issues with your WS?
Have you tried battery reset?
It's an Apple utility for OS 8.1 and 9 (not sure about 10) that works on
Wallstreets and Lombards (but apparently not on Pismos) that resets a
battery's microprocessor.
Works for batteries that are sound but have the internal controller
confused so they are reported to the computer as dead.

Here's a bit from the readme file:
About Battery Reset 2.0
What Is Battery Reset 2.0?
Battery Reset 2.0 addresses a situation that may occur with some
PowerBook G3 Series and iBook computers in which the battery, while in
the system, doesn't show up in the Control Strip, or a red X appears
over the battery icon in the menu bar.

Battery Reset 2.0 includes two components. For PowerBook G3 Series
computers, a file called Battery Updater is installed in the
Extensions folder and an application called Battery Reset is installed
on your hard disk. For iBook, only the file called Battery Updater is
needed and is installed in the Extensions folder.

Installation Requirements
To install and use the Battery Reset 2.0 software, you need the following:
A PowerBook G3 Series (family number M4753 or M5343) or iBook (family
number M2453) computer. The family number is located on the label on the
bottom of the computer.

Mac OS 8.1 or later installed

It looks like both batteries are dead. It could also be the PMU (Power

instructions on how to do it. It could also be the PRAM battery, but I think
that the main batteries have to be in working order for the PRAM battery to

Re: Source for Wallstreet battery?

2005-04-06 Thread Kenneth Vann
I had problems getting a battery that worked well, but that problem has
been solved.

I have gotten good bateries from APC (it took three times) and from
http://www.eagleimports.com (it took two times, but the problem was
compunded by problems with there phone, and internet provider (Quest
Telephone)).

Eagle imports is on ebay with better prices than from there web site.

I will buy from both again.

I am satified with both batteries.

Do you need a PRAM battery?

source for Wallstreet battery?

2005-04-04 Thread Andrew in Ann Arbor

Can anyone recommend a source for new batteries?
I'll try Battery Reset but would like options in case it's actually
expired.

NewerTech is selling higher capacity batteries. You can get them from Other
World Computing http://eshop.macsales.com/.

I purchased one myself from Laptops-Battery.com.
http://www.laptops-battery.com/catalog/product_info.php/manufacturers_id/3/
products_id/5403. It's $103.70, one of the best price I could find for a
new battery.

Re: Wallstreet Battery

2005-02-20 Thread Kenneth Vann
A final update regarding my quest for a working battery:

APC Returned my phone call, and is sending out a replacement battery.
They are paying the shipping cost both ways.

APC provided replacement battery 3 days after that phone call. It Charged
up the first time I tried it. I am now going to do a calibration and see
how much time it will last.

Eagle Imports agreed to send replacement battery. Will pick up the
original battery that tested dead. Will pay for shipping cost for both
batteries. I am waiting on replacement to test. If replacement battery
does not work, they have agreed to take it back, pay the freight cost,
and not charge a restocking fee. Eagle Imports believes that one or more
cells in battery is dead.

I Received a pre paid mailer to send defective battery back to Eagle
Imports. Replacement battery arrived 4 days after I mailed first one back.
After charging and calibration it last about 2 1/2 hours with all energy
savings turned off, and playing a QuickTime movie looping continuously.
Quite acceptable. I want to note that Eagle Imports honored their terms of
sale after I was able to establish communication with them. The
communication problems stem from Quest Telephone Co, and a move of their
business at the same time I placed the order on their web site.

In earlier conversion with Other World Computing about their brand of
batteries, they advised me that the charge card in the Wallstreet could be
week, ie: not strong enough, to handle the larger capacity batteries.
As both batteries have charged up ok, this does not seem to be a problem.

Also both batteries test good in the VST external charger. Both batteries
are a larger capacity than the Apple origional battery, it seems the VST
charger is not calibrated for that, and charges them up to when three of
the lights on the fuel gauge are lit. At that point, the VST Charger
indicates a full charge by giving a Green Light. Perhaps If I left them in
the charger overnight, they will go to full charge. I have not tried that
yet.

Both charge up fully in the Wallstreet without problem.

In the end, it appears I have received 2 bad batteries in my quest for
replacements. I now have two good batteries.

Thanks for all the suggestions I have received from you.

I don't think this has been done successfully. The Lithium Ion battery
pack for the Wallstreet (and others) is a smart battery, with an IC
integrated into the circuit. Even if you could find the proper cells
and get them inside the glued together pack, it would be a real
challenge to reprogram the chip for the new cells.

Re: WallStreet Battery

2005-02-11 Thread Stuart Saunders
FWIW, I had a Pismo battery rebuilt in Taipei by an electronics shop -
cost was 3000 NT (~US$ 95)

The battery leds no longer work, but battery did not need
recalibration; after rebuilding, the battery life display showed the
same time remaining as before, around one hour, but it would discharge
to zero, but Pismo would keep operating for much longer. Each time I
recharged, the battery would show a longer capacity - now showing just
under 5 hours, on a G4 Pismo 550 Mhz 10.3.7. That is with the lower
capacity cells than the ones in the 7200 mah batteries - maybe 2000 or
2200 mah (cells are 3 parallel gangs of 3 in series)

Have not done discharge time test, will do and advise.
YMMV.

Re: Wallstreet Battery

2005-02-09 Thread Kenneth Vann
Just an Update regarding my quest for a working battery:

It would be helpful to others if those being difficult
or providing substandard service or materials are
clearly identified. What dealers did you deal with?

APC was direct from them. I am waiting for return phone call.

APC Returned my phone call, and is sending out a replacement battery. They
are paying the shipping cost both ways.

The other was from Eagle Imports Intl, 2757 So 300 West Suite # D
Salt Lake City, UT 84115. This is the company that has not responded to
my repeat phone calls for a RMA. Will let you know how it goes with the
charge card company refunding the charge.

Eagle Imports returned phone calls after 7 days. Says problems caused by
move from Salt Lake City to Logan UT. Says Quest telephone company has
messed up their local POTS and 800 service and their voice mail service.
Also Quest provides DSL to company and that has been messed up. I was given
a direct phone number to the rep I talked to, so to bypass voice mail.

Eagle Imports agreed to send replacement battery. Will pick up the original
battery that tested dead. Will pay for shipping cost for both batteries. I
am waiting on replacement to test. If replacement battery does not work,
they have agreed to take it back, pay the freight cost, and not charge a
restocking fee. Eagle Imports believes that one or more cells in battery is
dead.

Contacted Other World Computing about their brand of batteries. They advise
the following: The NewerTech batteries are not compatible with VST external
charger. The VST charger's overcharge batteries. While my Wallstreet
charges the Apple Brand of battery, the charge card could be weak and not
work with a battery of larger capacity. Other World says the NewerTech line
of battery has a low rate of return, most all problems being with a
defective charger in the PowerBook or the use of an external charger. Other
World answered emails promptly.

Testing to be done: Will take the two problem batteries to user group
meeting this thursday. One other member has Wallstreet and I will test
batteries in his PowerBook. Will advise what happens.

I want to get my Wallstreet working reliably. I will use it in a dirty work
enviroment, and don't want to use a new PowerBook in such enviroment. I
currently use a PB1400 daily at work, (it has no problems) but I would like
to go to a larger screen.

Is their any way to test the charge card in the Wallstreet other than
replacing it with a new one?

By the way. The AC power supply for the Wallstreet is a new one of the YoYo
style. No problems with that.

Thanks for all the suggestions I have received from you.

Wallstreet Battery.

2005-02-05 Thread Kenneth Vann
Can anyone tell me if new batteries are available from Apple for the
Wallstreet PowerBook? Can anyone recomend a Apple service dealer in
Virginia?

I have had bad luck with third party batteries. The one I go in new this
week does not charge. Does not charge in a VST charger or the PowerBook.
Vendor does not answer phone calls, so I have contacted my Charge Card

The Apple brand I have does charge in both the VST Charger and PowerBook,
but because of age, it only last about 50 minutes.

I didn't check your URL, Laurent, but are these sub-$100 batteries,
actual Apple batteries, or 3rd-party compatibles?

Something for battery buyers to keep in mind is that Lithium-Ion
batteries have life-limits on *both* the total number of
charge/discharge cycles (~200 is a frequent number quoted) *and* on
the their shelf life. You just have a 2-3 year practical life on
batteries and there's not much to do except replace them.
Unfortunately

**rechargeable batteries start their life-span immediately upon manufacture.**

So, if Apple is not buying newly manufactured Wallstreet batteries
(and one wonders whether the market is big enough for a 1998 laptop,
to buy many newly manufactured batteries), whatever you buy
off-the-shelf is going to be a partial-life battery. How much life
remains, depends on how long ago it was manufactured.

And FWIW even if you never run your PB on batteries, the Li Ions
won't remain100% usable (i.e. number of hrs of useful charge)
generally for more than 2 or 3 years. (Notice I didn't say they would
die in 2-3 years, I said they would not allow you to run as long on
battery power as they initially did.) There are exceptions, of course.

The same things applies to 3rd-party batteries.

These are 3rd-party compatibles. You would probably have a hard time finding
a genuine Apple's one these days and, as you pointed out in your message,
even if you could find one, it wouldn't probably hold a charge because it
would be way too old...

Wallstreet Battery Question

2004-08-29 Thread Stephen Kerney
I'm having a problem with NewerTech's PowerBook G3 WallStreet Li-Ion
Battery (NWTBAPLLIWS) from OWC. Works great for about 2 weeks (charges,
lasts about 3 hours (according to time remaining), takes a charge fine when
plugged in (e.g., goes to 100%)) then won't take a charge. I'm on my 2nd
one with same results. My 5 1/2 year old original apple battery still
charges (but only lasts an hour or so) so I doubt its the WS. Anyone else
have this problem? I've reset the PMU twice, no change. I've tried both
slots and one battery at a time. No change. OEM charges, new on doesn't.

I'm about to send it back and ask for something different.

Steve

While not the only possible problem, look very carefully on the female
Power connector on the Wallstreet and see if any part of the shielding
tape that is attached to the inside of bottom case have come loose and
can come into contact with the outside of the Power Supply male connector.
I had this problem with a WS II before and the solution was to take apart
the machine and reattach the tape that was loose. I put other thin tape
on top of it to hold it in place.

This problem is mentioned in the repair manual.

From those who should know:

Computer runs when
plugged into wall
outlet but not on
battery power:

1 Reset power manager (shift-Fn-Ctrl-Pwr button).
2 Check battery shims (refer to Additional Procedures
chapter.)
3 Reseat battery to make sure battery is mating with contacts
on I/O logic board.
4 Try battery in opposite expansion bay.
5 Try known-good, firmly seated, charged battery. Repeat once.
6 Try known-good power adapter.
7 Replace charge card.
8 Replace PMU board.
9 Replace power supply card.
10 Replace I/O logic board.

I didn't know the Wallstreet had built-in OpenFirmware.
ALL PCI-based Macs (from the 7200 onward) have OpenFirmware. Some
have a more complete OF than others, but all PCI-based Macs have OF

Nope, I didn't try OpenFirmware commands.

Try:
Boot into Open Firmware by pressing Command-Option-O-F at startup and
first typing reset-nvram, pressing the Return key, and then
reset-all.

User testimonial:
I rescued 2 Pismo batteries last week using the info from MacInTouch
by booting into Open Firmware and issuing a reset-all command. They
are working fine and continue to hold a 2-3 hr charge.

We found cells that were less than $50.
The problem was with the NVRAM inside the battery.
You can maybe reset it in a Wallstreet, but not in a
 Pismo...

Could you reset the battery NVRAM in a Lombard?
I've run the battery reset utility on my Lombard but I'm not sure that's
the same reset that you are talking about.

Didn't have a Lombard when I did the replacement.

In fact, experience has shown repeatedly that good designs arise only from
evolutionary, exploratory interaction between one (or at most a small
handful of) exceptionally able designer(s) and an active user population --
and that the first try at a big new idea is always wrong. Unfortunately,
because these truths don't fit the planning models beloved of management,
they are generally ignored.

Larry, [EMAIL PROTECTED] said:

Is it possible to replace the battery cells in a PowerBook Wallstreet

I live in Sweden so links for US shops won't do much, it's the info
I'm after.

I was in contact with Batterilagret or something in Göteborg 2 years ago
and they wanted 2800 SEK (maybe $350) for replacing the battery package
inside. A new Apple battery then was 1800 SEK.
In the end I got a fresh battery, almost new for 350 SEK ($43 or
something like that). I sold it with my WS I. I also sold the crashed one
for 50 SEK, so maybe someone out there know more about refurbishing
batteries than I do (which is not that much really).

Point then is that there are fresh batteries out there, if you advert at
Swedish sites and ask for the possibility to use the battery for one day
or so and return if it's a dodo. Most Mac users are very honest people I
think, especially so with Pro people who make their living out of their
machines and the work they do on them.

I did explore this for my Pismo battery some time ago. Although you can find
replacement cells, the problem that you are likely to face is the reset of
the NVRAM in the electronic circuit of the battery that tells the computer
how much power remains in the cells and whether it's time to recharge the
battery. We haven't found a way to reset this memory after replacing the
cells and thus the battery wouldn't recharge...

sure exactly where it is on that site, but there are a lot of other
utils too. Hope that helps, not the best app, but it might help.

Re: PRAM/Backup battery in WallStreet - Battery Reset

2004-02-03 Thread JOHN.E.ABRAHAM
Hello Listers,

Thank you all for the additional info,

I did notice the link to the site for good battery prices and will
also try the battery reset programme.

I have noticed that the battery is not being seen by the PB. It
reports that the LH media bay is empty and there are no leads alight
on the side of the battery. This I suspect is because I did not
use it over the Christmas / New Year period and beyond. The
battery must be flat and thus the Pram also, as without any power in
the main battery the Pram discharged as well.

As for Jim's problem I am not sure if it relates to the PRAM as the
sign normally is that the date has reset to the year 1904.Showing
that the PRAM has run out of charge if the PB is keeping time but
loosing or gaining seconds this may be another fault.

My Wallstreet Date Time function consistently seems to lose about
15-30 seconds as evidenced by the adjustment that occurs almost every
time when I tell the control panel to manually set time now. It
seems oblivious to the interval between those checks. Also, it may
actually be more serious since the CPanel is supposed to auto-check
for differences often anyway and I am merely noting what changes the
auto function has not fixed.
Is this kind of thing clearly indicative of bad PRAM battery? I have
not noted other problems other than the usual aggravating random
crashes that dog me from time to time.
Thanks, Jim

Wallstreet battery update

2003-09-27 Thread Tekno Liber
Just for information as there's always someone who might
have a similar problem.
It turns out that both the battery bays on the Wallstreet are
fine, it's the original battery that's dead, stone dead.
The new one charges fine and I will shortly calibrate it.

Is there anything one can do to a dead Li-Ion battery ?

I never want to use a good battery in a deasktop Power
Book, but it's always good to have some battery charge,
even if it's only 10 minutes worth in case the power should
die or a cable become dislodged...

Well, you might be able to split it apart and put new cells in it. The
cells may be standardized OEM parts.

You could at least crack it open, and tell the list what kind of cells
are in it. I'd also be curios to know it after you open it, can it be
put back together?

Cells inside a WallStreet battery

2003-09-27 Thread Dr. K. Gensberg
Hi again!
I've cracked mine open and there are 12 cells, type:
Panasonic Lithium ion CGR17670HC

I have a pdf file from Panasonic which describes these cells in
detail, if anyone is interested.

If anyone has a clue where I could get 24 of these (or equivalent) at
a sane price, I'd be very happy! Perhaps there's a bulk discount if
we club together?

All the best

Know that even if you replace the cells, that doesn't mean the battery will
start working again. Smart laptop batteries, like the ones in Wallstreet,
Lombard and Pismos, to name a few, have an electronic circuit board that
communicates with the computer to let him know about the state of the
battery. These circuits have apparently a tiny non-volatile RAM that is hard
to reset. If the last information stored is about the battery being dead,
then the battery won't recharge, even with new cells. I know because I did
replace the cells in a Pismo battery but the battery never charged when put
back in the Pismo.

So, beware before forking out some hard earned cash on cells that could be
useless. However, if you want to try, go for it. Maybe you and we will learn
something in the process...

Search down the local Panasonic manufactures rep. It should be
available from their webpage.

There are several manufacturers of battery control chips. Look at the
numbers on the chip and tell us which one is used. (let's hope its not
a custom part, an standard part marked with an in house number (Apple
does this), or a specially programmed microprocessor).

The chip documentation will tell how to reset it. As to whether it's
easy to do is another matter, it may require a implementing a
communication protocol. I don't know if these chips implement a EPROM
type memory to store data non-volatile data, or if they depend on a
small amount of voltage from the battery always being there to keep
alive a CMOS RAM. Anyway, the chip spec will reveal those details.

So, beware before forking out some hard earned cash on cells that
could be
useless. However, if you want to try, go for it. Maybe you and we will

I would recommend doing what I am going to do: Buy a replacement
battery first. After about 6 months crack open the old battery and
purchase similar cells. Then pray for another 6 months that it works
and then go into 6 months of counseling. That way if the cells don't
work when you first try them you are not disappointed and your
insurance covers your insanity because you sought counseling before the
unfortunate moment that your cells started on fire.

For all of you neo-conservatives (and other similar people) out there:
This was a joke. g

Yes, that's easy to do. Look on the back. There is a reset button. I don't
remember the exact procedure for the Wallstreet, but it should be mention in
the manual you have. You basically hold the reset button on the Mac for a
number of seconds, then restart, or maybe the computer restarts itself.
There are signs that will tell you did reset it properly. These signs vary
from the model of PowerBook. Check your manual. Do a search in the Apple's
Technical Notes.

Wallstreet battery woes

I'm sure this must be one of the most covered topics on this list,
but as one tends to only read/reply to the threads that apply at
that time, one bypasses a lot of threads until they actually become
of interest, so please forgive me for bringing it up again (if that is
the case...)
I have just bought an old Wallstreet where the Mac is reporting
that the battery bay to be empty even though there is a battery
fitted. I presume that the battery is dead, but is there a possibility
of a fault of a different kind ?
I had a WS 266 where the battery was dead and did not take
charge, but at least the indicator showed a battery being present.

While it could be another problem, if you have swapped bays and see the

I had the same indication with a Wallstreet battery. Got a new one and

Re: Wallstreet battery problem

2003-01-20 Thread Dr. K. Gensberg
Last June, I emailed the list for advice on batteries in my WallStreet:

*
When I first bought my Wallstreet, the battery in it lasted about a
year before it would suddenly die - I'd have about three quarters of
battery left showing on the control strip, and then there would be a
message about the battery being about to die and the computer going
to sleep to preserve contents of memory.

I then bought another (Apple) battery, which worked fine for another
year and then - same again.

The third battery (Lacie) only lasted a few months.

Batteries don't generally get a hard time from me, as I usually use
the AC adapter.

So, I have three batteries, each with about 20 minutes worth (the
first quarter) of life in them. Is there anything that can be done to
revive them? I opened one of them up to have a look at the individual
cells inside, with a view to buying more and re-packing the case. Is
this do-able?

*

Well, out of curiosity and following related advice given recently, I
downloaded MyBattery Pro 1.0.0a4. With the software running, my most
recent battery which would normally last about 15 minutes before
dying actually lasted for ONE AND A HALF HOURS!

I tried another dud battery.this one lasted 15 minutes, and I was
quick enough to switcj on the AC adaptor before the computer shut
down. After a lengthy recharge process (monitored by MyBattery), this
one too now lasts about an hour and a half.

I'm now trying my old, original battery which came with the machine,
the one I opened up to see about re-packing with new cells. It lasted
about 2 minutes before failing, and I'm currently recharging it while
running MyBattery. It's taking a LONG time to charge, which is not
what happens when MyBattery is not running.

So, it looks as if MyBattery software has somehow intervened in the
charging process, restoring normal function. The Apple recharging
software seems to be at fault.

Can anyone tell me more? What's going on?

Thanks to all

Re: Wallstreet Battery Not Seating Right (?)

2002-09-12 Thread Jeff Lentz

Unfortunately this is a common problem, and also
unfortunately, I've never known the torx screw
adjustment to correct it. I have had the same problem
twice, where you ever so gently touch the battery and
the laptop just dies. Even after repair, it still
happens occasionally. Apple Service Center replaced
internal boards to solve the problem. Popping the
battery out and back in every so often, and perhaps
checking to see if the contacts are clean, may seem to
help somewhat, but no guarantees. I just naturally
favor that side now...

Try this:

1. Charge the battery all the way up, if you can;
2. Drain it all, if you can, until the machine goes dead;
3. Recharge battery all the way, if you can;
4. Zap PRAM;
5. Reset Power Manager button;
6. Restart;
7. Shut down and take the battery out for the night, making sure the
battery's posts are free of junk;
8. Try it again after a break.

I'd overlooked your comments below in my response. If
you are seeing the battery missing X in the menu

For some reason there is just a problem with USB, you can leave the

Re: Wallstreet battery problem revisited

2002-07-03 Thread Remy Davison

Does anyone know where I might get a new power management board
(CHEAP) for my WallStreet 266? It seems to be eating batteries at a
rate of one every three months, and the board seems to be the only
thing I can think of (I've done the shift/option/apple/restart thing
quite a few times).

This fourth battery (VST) has just developed the same fault, and I've
only been using it for a month or so.

Batteries don't generally get a hard time from me, as I usually use
the AC adapter. Surely I'm not getting a string of defective
batteries?
I think David Wedge (on this list, IIRC) has them a little cheaper than
powerbookparts.com.

My take is that LiION batteries, while high on capacity and good on
performance, don't last long. NiMHs Type II/III perform less
satisfactorily, but are less likely to die prematurely. My Lombard
battery died after 2 years. A new WS battery died after about 14 months.
Neither had particularly heavy use. By contrast, both the PowerBook 190
and 5300 we had (NiMH) both lasted 5 years with their batteries, both of
which are still going with their 2nd owners (now the batteries are almost
7 years' old). The trade off, of course, is they only last 1.5-2 hours.

That makes me wonder how long NiMHs last in the 3400 or Kanga - while
they won't provide much PB up-time, I bet they last longer than the
LiIONs in terms of battery life. I've noted a lot of people's original
iBook (1999-2000) batteries went out to lunch fairly early (12-18 months)
and that replacements aren't that easy to come by.

Cheers,

RD

are showing the same signs. New batteries that check out at the factory but
I can get them to charge only about 88% of capacity.

Re: Wallstreet battery problem revisited

2002-07-02 Thread Michael Bryan Bell

I then bought another (Apple) battery, which worked fine for another
year and then - same again.

The third battery (Lacie) only lasted a few months.

This fourth battery (VST) has just developed the same fault, and I've
only been using it for a month or so.

Batteries don't generally get a hard time from me, as I usually use
the AC adapter. Surely I'm not getting a string of defective
 batteries?

This is just one thing to look at, but where are you getting your batteries
from?

The problem with batteries is that they have a shelf life, and will
essentially go bad. Reconditioning used to help, but not as much anymore...
Battery technology just hasn't kept up. People are actually having problems
getting good batteries for the first generation ibooks (toilet seats)
already. In one case, a company had hundreds of them that they got in and
sold to customers, only to find that they all died pretty quickly and
couldn't hold a charge well before that.

So it could just be worth looking into- ie, where are the batteries you're
getting coming from, and how old are they?

Re: Wallstreet battery problem

2002-06-21 Thread Jeff Lentz

I have heard that 3 hours in the freezer, followed by
a flat drop from a few feet up onto a hard surface
will break away the dendrites that form on the
opposing plates, reducing the battery's effectiveness.
My one attempt by my wife hit on the corner
shattered my battery. I've not heard of any other
successful similar attempts. I can see how it COULD
work, but can't prove that there's anything more to it
than a last-ditch-effort-before-the-trashcan method.
Use at your own risk. If it works, shower me with
accolades (or cash). If it doesn't, you didn't hear
it here.

Re: Weird Wallstreet Battery problem

It sounds like it could be, but that could also be your battery. What
exactly happens whey you reset the battery?

Well, I found out I have more problems, but thanks. Anyway, I reset
the battery, zapped the power manager and it still comes up showing a
full battery.

Anyway, I got the 4 year service contract so it goes back to
service.net soon. I hope they are good.

Thanks,

Aron

Weird Wallstreet Battery problem

2002-04-17 Thread aron nelson

Just recently my Battery shows totally dead with the LEDs and button
on the side of it.

However in OS 9 the battery shows as totally FULL. Even if I swap it
into the right bay, the control strip and clock/battery icon shows
totally full.

I have tried Battery Reset and Power Management Reset but it still shows full.

Of course it isn't. I can unplug the power adaptor and it will shut right off.

Does it sound like the PMU Board?

Thanks,

Aron
