Slow connecting to MySQL from Windows App

2009-05-05 Thread Menachem Bazian

Hi,

I am hoping someone here can help me. I have an Ubuntu 8.04 server that
has worked FINE for months. The other day, the client rebooted it. They
shut it down properly and then later started it up again. (The server
was not experiencing any problems when they did it, there were other
reasons). Ever since then, when I try to connect to the MySQL server it
is running dead slow. As in 20-30 seconds to get a connect.

By the way, I just tried it with MySQL Administrator and it has problems
connecting as well so it is not the connector.

The server is located internally on a gigabit network.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated...

Building MySql for Windows with SSL

2008-12-15 Thread Edward Diener
In the MySql manual section 5.5.7.2 it specifies how to build MySql on a
Unix/Linux platform with SSL by using 'configure'. I need to build MySql
for Windows with SSL support. In section 2.4.15.6.1 for building MySql
for Windows itr specifies the available options for using win/configure,
but SSL is not among them. How then can I build MySql for Windows with
SSL support ?

Short of rebooting the server - is there any way to find out what might be

Yes, theoretically you can, it should follow the same way of having
two mysql servers running, you just have to give them different TCP
ports to listen...

There is a known bug for Windows 2003 - bug #12071:

You should use 4.0.19 or 5.0.19.

Hello.

Please, CC your answers to the list as well. Put

log_error=path_to_error_log in your configuration file (my.ini

usually). See:

  http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/error-log.html

  http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/server-system-variables.html

I'm sorry, but I see no mention in either of those references as to the

correct syntax for turning on error messages in the MySQL Windows

config file. This isn't surprising, as I had spent some time consulting

my existing docs and online. I could, I suppose, extrapolate from

revising the command line invocation of mysql, but that was not the

question or intent here.

What am I missing? Since you chose not to actually provide a context

for your invocation of URLs, I have no idea whether you were trying to

answer the question I actually asked, or were answering something else,

The problems are more with Windows than with the script. The testing
script was written in BASH (I believe) which does not have an interpreter
for Windows (outside of Cygwin. However if you are inside Cygwin, you
really aren't working with Windows any more.) Several other scripting

PHP, Python, PERL, and more.
(d) = installed by default.

I think that the mysql testing script is being ported from BASH into PERL
and when that happens you will have the ability to run it on any Windows
system configured to run PERL scripts. Until then, we Win32 people just
trust the binaries and avoid compiling our own copies unless we absolutely

It will be the one. It is not yet finished.

You can run it, but you may have problems interpreting the results.
Several tests will seem to fail, just because some output differs from
the expected one. Obviously, much output is platform dependent (starting
with file names, then process or thread IDs, ...), and the tests do not
yet allow for the output generated on Windows.

Note that I say output, not database result!

Are the perl scripts that mentioned in your e-mail

Yes, they are included (AFAIK - not checked), but they are under
construction even for Unix. Just today, I fixed another problem in
them, that had shown up during our internal 5.0 builds.

Are the perl test scripts only
used in Mysql's internal works now?

Obviously, I cannot guarantee that nobody else is using them.
But we have not proposed to anybody outside MySQL to do so.

Just for completeness: If anybody wants to use Unix style tools (shell,
awk, ed, tr, sed, lex/bison/yacc, ...) in a Windows environment, I
propose to look at MinGW because these are native Windows binaries.

Several other scripting
languages do have interpreters for Windows: VBScript (d), JScript (d),
PHP, Python, PERL, and more.
(d) = installed by default.

Right. So for us, Perl is the language of choice, as we can make it
available on all platforms.

I think that the mysql testing script is being ported from BASH into PERL

We will see not to disappoint that trust, and appreciate it. Thanks!

Well, this is a typical Windows problem (yes, I admit being a Unix guy):
Native Windows does not come with a decent portable scripting language.

You are right that the MySQL test suite is based on a shell script
approach which does not work in (native) Windows.
(You might get MinGW, MKS or similar suites to get a shell and try in
that environment, but this would be your own personal experiment.
If you have looked into that script, you get an idea of the complexity
needed, plain batch files will not work for this.)

I want to know how to test the MySQL Server's Windows version. Is
MySQL AB doesn't provide the test method? Who can give me an answer?

MySQL is internally working on replacing the shell script by a set of
Perl scripts, which can also be used on Windows (provided you install
Perl). However, this work is not yet finished, and several tests will
produce different results on Windows from the Unix ones, which the tool
considers to be failures - even if it is just the way the result is
written,no real database difference.

So currently there is no way for you to run the test suite on Windows
and get usable results - sorry. We are working on this.

mySQL on Windows CE

2004-12-15 Thread Boo Khan Ming
Hi,

Is this supported? I mean I just look at the FAQ and find it is on the list
of supported platform (Handheld: Windows CE), but I hardly see any article
mention about it.

I have downloaded two connector (.NET and ODBC), but which one should I use
for Windows CE development? Could someone help clarify? For Embedded Visual
C++ 4.0, what connector should I use and does it supported? Or, if I go for
.NET Compact Framework with Visual Studio .NET 2003, should I use .NET
connector? Or ODBC?

I have seen previously someone said connector for .NET Compact Framework is
not yet out, but today I see handheld Windows CE on the list of supported
platform by mySQL, and I am almost confused.

Looking to hire someone to configure MySQL on Windows Server 2003

2004-09-08 Thread Rob Taylor
Greetings

We have installed MySQL 4.0 on a dedicated Windows Server 2003. I have the MySQL
server running
and it appears all is set to go minus one problem. We need to move a MySQL database
from the old
host to this server. To do that, I want to use a GUI - preferably DBACentral.
However; I am unable
to connect to the mySQL server that I have set-up. I have tried everything but the
GUI will not let me
connect. I am not convinced that the 3306 port is open because I tried putting the
DBACentral
GUI on the Web Server which allowed me to connect to the local MySQL database (which I
cannot
connect to from my desktop) but I then could not connect to the one we need to move
(which I
can connect to from my desktop).

Does anyone have experience with configuring MySQL for Windows 2003? If so, please
let me know.
I would like to hire you to get this configured correctly so we can connect remotely
and move
this database. United States people only and you must be able to get it done ASAP -
preferably today.
Please contact me if you are interested.

Thanks,

Rob

If You're _certain_ that it is the DBACentral that does not let You

Find out. On the 2003 server run netstat and see... If You have the proper
tools installed, You can `netstat -an|grep 3306` - that is what I would do
first.

OK, so we have _three_ MySQL servers now: 1 old, 1 new and one on the web
server, right? And You need to move from old to new, the webserver one does
not enter into this, right? The fact that You can connect to the webserver
one from localhost is a sensible precaution: after all, only the webserver
has a legitimate need to make connections to it.

I think You have allowed access to Your database from only the localhost.
You need to create user accounts on the DB that are allowed remote
access. Of course after You verify that:
 - the DB starts and does not complain
 - which port the listener is active on

This is all covered in the post-install tasks in the manual and takes but a
few minutes (assuming just simple setup).

In a wider scope: what are the MySQL versions of the old and new DBs?
Can't You use mysqldump or just set up replication, use the old until
You're convinced that new works to Your satisfaction, and cut it over then?

Thanks,
Rob

now), later You will want to colocate it. Correct so far?

Now, to verify the versions, at the mysql prompt execute:
SHOW VARIABLES;
close to the end of the list there will be a version variable - find it for
both hosts - it shouldn't be a problem, but let's try to eliminate that
possibility now.

Grep is not recognized when I try to do netstat.
OK, You might want to install cygwin tools, but let's not worry about this
now. Just do 'netstat -an|more' and look for a line that in the second
column (local address) has B's IP address, then colon, and 3306. If You
only find '127.0.0.1:3306', B is only listening on loopback. If You find no
rows with :3306, MySQL is not running (at least not on a standard port).

I was told the MySQL database at the shared company is 4.0. Again, I can
connect to that one. The new one is 4.0 as well.
See above, verify.

I have created a user and allowed that user remote access.
I presume on B, right?

grant all privileges on text.* to 'user'@'%' identified by 'footman's
using grant access;
1. You _did_ create database text, right?
2. I do hope that password is a typo: it was 'footmans', right?
3. I'm perplexed by this USING clause... Did You mean WITH GRANT OPTION?
I'll assume so.
3. let me rewrite it a bit: is _this_ what You actually issued:
mysql GRANT ALL ON text.* TO 'user'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY
'footmans'  WITH GRANT OPTION;

After You do that, verify:
mysql SHOW GRANTS FOR 'user'@'%';
and, more importantly:
mysql SHOW GRANTS FOR 'user'@'Your workstation IP, as seen by the server B';

Thanks.Rob

That probably means that the user You are trying to connect as is not
authorized to connect from the machine You are trying to connect from -
let's assume the username is kkk, B's IP address is BBB.BBB.BBB.BBB,
connect to A then issue:
mysql SHOW GRANTS FOR 'kkk'@'BBB.BBB.BBB.BBB';

 It says it cannot
connect. That leads me to believe that something on the new server
(probably the
3306 port) is not letting traffic remotely through it.
Remember, B is likely _not_ using port 3306 to connect to DB on A. I'd be
very surprised if it did. Consequently this issue is not likely related to
B's inability to provide connection to workstation somewhere

And a far more general question: any firewalls/NAT between Your workstation
and A? What about on Your route to B?

That is the download you want.

Francois,
You didn't reply to the list, just to me. If you reply to the list, more
people will be able to help you. I'm quite new myself.

You need to set up user accounts. Download an admin program such as
MySQL Control Center. Maybe there are better ones, but that's what I
use. You can do a lot of stuff with this and save your self from having
to type at the command line.

Are you logged on as Administrator?
Is there enough disk space free?
Does it generate the same error if you try re-installing?
Is there an existing installation with the server still running?

French characters ok with mysql in Windows, nok with mysql in Linux

2004-01-05 Thread Willy Dockx

Hello,

I already posted this problem end of 2003, but probably, the champagne has
troubled the answers.

The solution of this problem is really important for me. Can anybody help?

I have made a website using jboss, Hibernate, mysql 4.0.16 and
mysql-connector-java-3.0.9.

In development this is installed on Windows2000 and everything works fine, also
when the user inputs characters like é, à, è, …

In production this is installed on Linux (RedHat 8). There also everything works
fine, except for the strange characters é, à, è.

I suppose the reason is that RedHat uses UTF-8 as encoding.

I’ve tried to put ‘useUnicode=truecharacterEncoding=UTF-8’ in the driver
connection url, but this doesn’t help.

Can anyone help me on this problem?

Greetings,

Willy Dockx

Did you look to the file /etc/sysconfig/i18n ?

Hello,

Thank you for your quick response.

I start with an empty database. So the data isn't exported. Then users enter
data in a web-page. It is this data that can contain French characters and that
is added by the java servlet to the database.

I will look at the file /etc/sysconfig/i18n this evening (I can not get on the
Linux system at this moment). I'm not a linux-expert. I didn't change anything
in that file until now.

RE: Re[2]: Can run two versions of MySQL in Windows 2000?

-Original Message-
From: Stefan Hinz [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
Sent: Wednesday, July 23, 2003 5:15 PM
To: Degan, George E, JR, MGSVC
Cc: Paul DuBois; [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: Re[2]: Can run two versions of MySQL in Windows 2000?

Degan,

jumping in to try and solve some problems that look pretty obvious to
me ...

 #options for default service (mysqld2)
 (mysqld2)

It should be [mysqld2], not (mysqld2).
(thanks -- did this)
 basedir = c:\4.1 Alpha\mysql

As Paul pointed out, the blank in the path name is likely to cause
problems (see below).

 my-opts2.cnf:

 [mysqld2]
 basedir = c:\4.1 Alpha\mysql

Again, don't use a path that contains blanks.

 socket = mypipe2

As opposed to Unix, Windows doesn't know the concept of sockets (it
uses named pipes instead). Named pipes, however, might cause
problems with MySQL under Windows, so it's recommended not to use
them, but rather use tcp/ip instead (that is why named pipes are
disabled by default). You don't have to specify anything to use tcp/ip
-- it's the default under Windows. (The above line in your
configuration file is syntactically okay, but I'd recommend to delete
it for the mentioned reasons. For MySQL 4.1, that should be
protocol=mypipe2, anyway.)

(thanks -- removed the two lines in the [mysqld] section:
enable-named-pipes and socket = mypipe1
in the [mysqld2] section I removed enable-named-pipes and
amended second line to protocol = mypipe2
   Did I understand you correctly?)

 mysqld --defaults-file=C:\my-opts1.cnf
response: mysqld: ERROR: unknown option '--enable-named-pipe'

For the above given reasons, you shouldn't use named pipes. Get rid of
the appropriate lines in your configuration files, and you'll get rid
of that problem.

(amended the Opts#.cnf files similar to the my.cnf file above)

 030723 15:09:02 Error message file
'C:\mysql\share\english\errmsg.sys'
had only 237 error messages, but it should contain at least 255 error
messages. Check that the above file is the right version for this
program! 030723 15:09:02 when I invoke it from the folder of the old
 version. and:
 mysqld-max: Can't change dir to 'C:\4.1 Alpha\mysql\data\'
(Errcode:2)

Well, that error message says it, doesn't it? Avoid having blanks in
your pathnames.

(changed live folder to c:\mysql-4.0.13 and the alpha folder to
c:\mysql-4.1.0\)

Okay, that looks good. When you open the Services Manager, I assume
it shows lines for services named MySQL and mysqld2 and that they
both have a status showing them to be running?

(Sorry, the Services Manager? I'm not sure what that is.)

On Windows 2000, you can open the Services Manager window as follows:

Start Settings Control Panel Administration Services

In that window you see a list of Windows services, and you should find
two MySQL-related services running.

(I think I messed up here. I decided to start from scratch, I removed
MySQL Servers and Clients 4.0.13 from the program list (as it appears
when I run the setup.exe it installs MySQL software in Windows) and
deleted all the folders (which included the old c:\mysql\ directory
with mysqld in the \bin folder) before performing the remove
instructions below. So now I can't get to the correct mysqld service
to remove it. It also appears that I can't remove it in windows as I
don't see a remove or delete option in the Services area where you
directed me. Will that be stuck there, now? MySQL and mysqld2 still
appear in the services list.)

But when I attempt to invoke MySQL the response is: ERROR 2003:
Can't
connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061)

Okay. What was the command you used here?

(just the same as before: mysql or mysql -h localhost -u root

What happens if you use this command:

 mysql -h localhost -P 3308

 or this one:

 mysql -h . -S mypipe2

(both give the following response: ERROR 2003: Can't connect to MySQL
server on 'localhost' (10061), and I tried several Ports, 3308, 3307,
3306, and 3309 in this order)

All that means that the MySQL server you are trying to connect to
isn't running. You can check in the Services Manager window, now that
you know how to find that :)

(BTW. When I came in today I found out that I could no longer connect
to 4.1.0 either. When I left last night, I could connect to 4.1.0,
but
could no longer connect to 4.0.13. According to windows explorer the
database files are still there, but for some reason mySQL can no
longer
point to them.)

Once again, check in the Services Manager window and make sure the
MySQL servers are actually running. I can only guess, but it looks as
though they are not started at system startup (Start type: automatic).

 net stop svc-name-1
 net stop svc-name-2
(by svs-name-1 and -2 do you refer to mysqld and mysqld2? If not, to
what services do you refer?)

 To remove them:

 mysqld --remove svc-name-1
 mysqld --remove svc-name-2
(it appears that you do not as mysqld --remove mysqld doesn't seem to
make sense. To what services do you refer

Re[4]: Can run two versions of MySQL in Windows 2000?

2003-07-24 Thread Stefan Hinz
Degan,

I had the same kind of problem before. I don't know why that is so,
but Windows doesn't provide a remove option in the Services Manager
window. You can, however, edit the properties of a service and set it
to Disabled. After re-booting the system, that service should have
gone.

If it's still there, you can only remove it by hacking the Windows
registry (Start Run regedit), looking for mysql... entries,
delete them, and reboot. Maybe there's a more proper way of doing
this, and if someone on this list knows, I'd be interested in how that
would look like.

(And, yes, I can hear all you Unix guys on this list chuckling.)

Yes the currently installer doesn't remove the service during
the un-install process. This deficiency should be fixed in the
new installer which is developed by Mark ( I am cc this for him
for to me correct if I am wrong).
However in the today behavior I don't recommend to play with the
registry. The situation is:
- Before to un-install remove the service using the server binary
with mysqld --remove or mysqld --remove service-name.
- If you don't have anymore any server for to perform the remove
service, you don't need to reboot, just re-install the new
stuff and do the service remove.

You need to remove the services using a MySQL server. You can use any
of mysqld, mysqld-nt, mysqld-max, or mysql-max-nt to do this. Suppose
you use mysqld. This command removes the service having the default
name (MySQL):
mysqld --remove

And this one removes a service named mysqld2:

mysqld --remove mysqld2

 net stop svc-name-1
 net stop svc-name-2
(by svs-name-1 and -2 do you refer to mysqld and mysqld2? If not, to

MySQL (the default name) and mysqld2 (your second service name)

  To remove them:

 mysqld --remove svc-name-1
 mysqld --remove svc-name-2

See above.

Then start from the beginning, using the mysqld --install instructions
 in the manual.

(So I don't have to Uninstall them in windows since they are now

I'd suggest you to get familiar with the Windows services concept.
Services are, uh, services that can start and stop software programs
(like the MySQL server). Rather than starting the software manually,
you'd set up a service that does that (and can do that automatically,
e.g. at system startup).
Windows (NT, 2000, XP) usually uses services to start software that
runs in the background, like the MySQL server.
Unlike software, you don't uninstall a service, you _remove_ it, so it
won't be there anymore to start the software program it's supposed to
start. For the MySQL server, that's done with the mysqld --remove
servicename command.
(How do we remove the mysqld service?)
You don't have a service named mysqld, do you?

RE: Can run two versions of MySQL in Windows 2000?

2003-07-23 Thread Degan, George E, JR, MGSVC
SETUP

Windows 2000, Version 5.0 (build 2195, Service Pack 2) (In case it
matters, I have about 20 GB available on my 40GB hard drive and 192MB of
RAM)

SETTINGS

Prior to attempting to put on the second server, I wasn't using any
options, which was logging me in as [EMAIL PROTECTED] (or more likely
[EMAIL PROTECTED]), later I invoked mysql as follows: mysql -h localhost -u
root to log in as the root. If you see my treads I was having problems
with building temporary tables and was advised to set up a root user,
turned out one was set up with the installation so I began using it.).

When I started attempting to set up the multiple versions, Victoria
Reznichenko directed me to the user manual and was attempting to set it
up that way. I shut down the original mysql server and installed the
mysql in the 4.1 Alpha folder group with the option mysqld-nt
--install mysqld2 which was referenced per the manual in a file called
my.cnf as follows:

# options for mysqld2 service
[mysqld2]
basedir = C:/mysql-4.0.14
port = 3308
enable-named-pipe
socket = mypipe2

It installed with no errors. Then it instructed I startup the servers
as follows:

NET START mysql
NET START mysqld2

when I did that I got the response:

The MySQL service started succesfully.

and

The mysqld2 service started succesfully.

respectively.

But when I attempt to invoke MySQL the response is: ERROR 2003: Can't
connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061)

(BTW. When I came in today I found out that I could no longer connect
to 4.1.0 either. When I left last night, I could connect to 4.1.0, but
could no longer connect to 4.0.13. According to windows explorer the
database files are still there, but for some reason mySQL can no longer
point to them.)

How I'm running the servers: they are services in Windows. Though I
had nothing to do with that. The setup/install utility handled that for
4.0.13. Do I have to give them a unique name for 4.1.0 so Windows can
distinguish 4.1 from 4.0?

Better detail? Thanks for not giving up on me!

using it for your 4.1 installation.

It installed with no errors. Then it instructed I startup the servers

to 4.1.0 either.
Yes. The Services Manager will show what the service names are. You may
want to shut them down, remove them, and then start over. It may be that
the presence of existing services is what's messing things up.
To stop the services (assuming service names of svc-name-1 and svc-name-2):

net stop svc-name-1
net stop svc-name-2
To remove them:

mysqld --remove svc-name-1
mysqld --remove svc-name-2
Then start from the beginning, using the mysqld --install instructions
in the manual.
Better detail? Thanks for not giving up on me!
Yes, much better detail. Thanks.

(Sorry for the confusion, the my.cnf file had two parts to it, I only
copied the part about mysqld2, didn't realize the first one was
relevant. Here is the entire file (I copied the previous one from the
manual, but I did actually run it with the correct directory names):

my-opts2.cnf:

enable-named-pipe
socket = mypipe2

With these commands:

mysqld-max --defaults-file=C:\my-opts2.cnf
response:

Re[2]: Can run two versions of MySQL in Windows 2000?

2003-07-23 Thread Stefan Hinz
Degan,

jumping in to try and solve some problems that look pretty obvious to
me ...

 #options for default service (mysqld2)
 (mysqld2)

It should be [mysqld2], not (mysqld2).

 basedir = c:\4.1 Alpha\mysql

As Paul pointed out, the blank in the path name is likely to cause
problems (see below).

 my-opts2.cnf:

 [mysqld2]
 basedir = c:\4.1 Alpha\mysql

Again, don't use a path that contains blanks.

 socket = mypipe2

For MySQL 4.1, that should be
protocol=mypipe2, anyway.)

 mysqld --defaults-file=C:\my-opts1.cnf
response: mysqld: ERROR: unknown option '--enable-named-pipe'

For the above given reasons, you shouldn't use named pipes. Get rid of
the appropriate lines in your configuration files, and you'll get rid
of that problem.

 030723 15:09:02 Error message file 'C:\mysql\share\english\errmsg.sys'
had only 237 error messages, but it should contain at least 255 error
messages. Check that the above file is the right version for this
program! 030723 15:09:02 when I invoke it from the folder of the old
 version. and:
 mysqld-max: Can't change dir to 'C:\4.1 Alpha\mysql\data\' (Errcode:2)

Well, that error message says it, doesn't it? Avoid having blanks in
your pathnames.

But when I attempt to invoke MySQL the response is: ERROR 2003: Can't
connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061)

When I left last night, I could connect to 4.1.0, but
could no longer connect to 4.0.13. According to windows explorer the
database files are still there, but for some reason mySQL can no longer
point to them.)

Once again, check in the Services Manager window and make sure the
MySQL servers are actually running. I can only guess, but it looks as
though they are not started at system startup (Start type: automatic).

 net stop svc-name-1
 net stop svc-name-2

 To remove them:

 mysqld --remove svc-name-1
 mysqld --remove svc-name-2

Then start from the beginning, using the mysqld --install instructions
 in the manual.

(So I don't have to Uninstall them in windows since they are now
services? Or does this have the same effect?)

Hope that helps.

Can run two versions of MySQL in Windows 2000?

2003-07-22 Thread Degan, George E, JR, MGSVC
I have been running 4.0.13 for several weeks now and though I'd like to test 4.1.0.
4.0.13 is under c:\MySQL. I downloaded 4.1.0 under c:\4.1 Alpha\MySQL. When I try to
launch mysql it brings me to the old version, how do I access the new one without
killing the old one? (I have also tried putting 4.1.0 on a totally different machine
and linking to it also.)

- First compile it on Linux.
- If you are compiling the 4.1 tree there is a script for to
  prepare the Windows source
  scripts/make_win_src_distribution.sh
otherwise copy the tree on windows drive and rename the files
*.cc to *.cpp and put in place the VC++ *.dsw and *.dsp

mySQL on Windows 2000 Server

2003-03-28 Thread Neil Tompkins
Hi,

I'm looking to purchase my own dedicated server. As standard it doesn't
come with any database support. I was considering installing mySQL. At the
moment I have mySQL running on Windows 2000 professional and everything
looks OK at the moment.

Has anyone installed mySQL on Windows 2000 server, can you tell me your
experiences, or should I look for another option ?

At the moment we use mySQL on linux, but my linux knowledge is limited and
Win2K server is my best option.

Thanks for any comments.

Kind regards,
Neil Tompkins

Re: mySQL on Windows 2000 Server

2003-03-28 Thread Gerald Jensen
Neil:

MySQL on Windows 2000 Server is excellent.

We have installed about client 80 systems that incorporate MySQL. Some are
running on Unix, some Linux, about a third on Windows NT Server, and the
balance (40+ systems) are running on either Windows 2000 Server or Win2K
Advanced Server.

We have never had a burp that was traceable to MySQL. If we encounter any
problems (which occurs seldom), it is almost always traceable to poor
network administration, lack of proper network security, or failure to
follow instructions.

RE: mySQL on Windows 2000 Server

2003-03-28 Thread John Griffin
Hi,

I have MySQL running on a machine at work and a (dev) machine at home. Both machines
are running W2K. The machine at home is an old PIII with 256Meg of memory, the machine
at work is a new P4 2.0GHz with 512Meg of memory. My home machine also has a heavier
load relative to the CPU than my machine at work. However, my machine at home executes
MySQL faster than my machine at work. In my case it is not the W2K environment itself
that is the problem it is another component interfering with MySQL. I suggest that if
you ever have problems with MySQL performance on W2K you look to see what you can
uninstall as MySQL on W2K is not the issue.

BTW, I eventually solved my problem at work by moving MySQL over to a Linux box. That
actually gave me better performance than my W2K box at home.

The options that I have appear to be

- - Visual C++ + MySQL++

can anyone advice me on the best to use, for stability, and no memory leaks

Many thanks

Depends on what you are experienced with on win platform I would of thought.

Something like vB or Delphi is very quick and easy to use.

MySQL and Windows XP (Pro)

2003-02-08 Thread Dan Cumpian
I have an application that works just fine on a local MySQL database
when it is running on W2K or Windows XP Home.  However, on Windows XP
Pro, the application has problems keeping its connection to the server.
Has anyone else seen this and is there a known cause or fix?

We’ve tried this on more than one XP Pro setup and have seen the same
results.

MySQL versions: 3.23.52, 3.23.53, 3.23.54

Database connection is using Zeos Database Objects through a Delphi
application.  The application has five separate database connections
each in individual threads.

Thank you,
Dan Cumpian
