I think what Jack was basically trying to say is that for our needs Dremel is hard to beat. I have two Corded models and one Cordless Dremel and do not know how I ever managed to build a plane before I got my first one. Sure, when I first got a Dremel tool I thought it was the stuff, then I tried a Foredom. I can do so many jobs with it that the Dremel could never do, like buff blemishes from canopies without melting the plastic because of the high rpms of the Dremel, you really don't know the differencetill you play with one. It *is* that much better. If you do a lot of glass work this is a much more useful tool. Thanks to Barry mentioning the Max Repair Cost Chart that Dremel has, I just sent my Cordless Model in today for Repair or Replacement for $28.00 dollars. $28 bux is a good deal, doesn't work for me, but if it works for you that's really cool. For those heavier duty jobs that I do once in a blue moon, I do have Black and Decker Die Grinder that works just fine for those kinds of projects. I've been looking into those for a while now, die grinder would be great for really big jobs, you like yours? If I was doing the kind of work you do on a daily basis, I would be right there with you looking to get the Foredom stuff. Just a little too expensive for my light duty needs though. Funny, I see folks on this list buying multiple $1500.00 airframes and $100.00 plus servos by the half dozen or getting a new three meter everytime some nifty model comes out. I figure a coupla bills for a super tool wouldn't faze them. I fly a beat old Ruby, a two mmeter Saphire, it flys fine, catches thermals even whebn some open class models are scratching, fits in mu old Porsche, and I can slope it at any local hill, unlike most open class models. 2 meter doesn't just mean Gentle Lady and even if it is a bit harder to fly (is it really?) doesn't that make you a better pilot in the long run? Re: [RCSE] First RC sailplane
Hey now, O.k. I'm a bit strange... Back in the seventies I was mostly flying ukies and had just learned r/c on a Das little stick I wanted to try sloping, but knew little to nothing about it. I didn't like the res kits that I saw so I modified a Midwest ukie kit, a P-63 profile warbird. I put a lot of lead in the nose, hooked up the contra flaps as ailerons, and made the rudder work. It wasn't fast (fat airfoil, ukie stunter.), and it wasn't that stable, but it did fly and I had loads of fun flying it. Sometimes I think I'd like to try it again... Dude, to really soar needs no high tech stuff. A poly, gas bag floater is But as an artist and designer, I love good design, and high tech laminates and smooth flowing gel coat surfaces ;-) There is a reason for high that these planes are offered with high tech stuff. And I'm one that appreciates technological advances thanks to people like Burt Rutan. Hey now, I find myself wandering back and forth on this issue. There are days when my old OlyII (8' gas bag) is the way to go; finding a light thermal and winding that beautiful stained glass window of a built up structure and floating with the buzzards. Other days flying my high test FlashII (hollow molded 60 six servo sloper) or my U-2 (lead sled pss) is the way the truth and the life. Still other days my two meter Ruby is the most fun. Both ends of the spectrum, and all that middle ground too, are wonderful places to be depending on the day, the conditions, and your mood. Which model preforms best? You can't *really* say. For example at the Half moon bay Electric fly in last weekend the model that won the LMR competition was a Banshee, a 3-d airbatic arf! It won over polyfloater gas bags *and* high tec moldies. Go figure. RobII ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Erica FrankRob CarterII [EMAIL PROTECTED] Everybody understands Mickey mouse. Re: [RCSE] recommendations for beginner glider
I see some pilots hold the Tx head-level, real close, to make precise stick movements. Hey now, That's more to shield my eyes from the sun, the smitter works well to shade my eyes and let me see both the stick movement and the plane. Most everyone else can hold it chest level. I generaly hold it at navel level, that's most comfortable with the neck strap I use. I just use my thumb, but it seems to me that it's hard to make the right X-Y movements..I feel my thumb can't feel the X or Y movements, especially doing a combined diagonal movement (X Y). I've been reading some flying instructions, some people take the stick between 2 fingers. When I'm just scooting around having fun I fly with my thumb on the stick, It works fine for most sport flying, but If I'm going to land or do something precise I use my thumb and finger and pinch the stick, I feel that I get better control this way. Re: [RCSE] GLUED IN SERVOS (underengineering)
Hey now, I've been reading about this problem for a couple of days now and I guess I sould put in my two cents worth. How about using a soldering gun? you can change the wire bit to a cheese slicer shape like a mini hot wire. That'll cut right through it. I have to break epoxy joints often, and heat is the best way I've yet found. RE: [RCSE] How Come We Aren't in the Olympics?
Hey now, I like the idea of hlg in the olympics. Seems to me it'd fit just fine, strength, agility, stratigy. Those are all things that folk want in an olympic event. Do we have enough folk to qualify? maybe. Can we persuade those in power to include us? doubtful. Is hlg more of a sport than those already in the olympics? Absolutly not! To the guy who said horseback riding is not a tough phsical activity, try it! you'll find muscles you never knew you had(ouch!). For that matter, try curling. My shoulders never hurt so bad as the first time I slid stones. Archery is hard too, again, try it. PLEASE don't put down other sports to build up ours it's demeaning to everyone. Re: [RCSE] And now for something really important - Poison Oak
Hey now, my friend who gets real bad poison oak always takes a bath in cool water with corn starch. That seems to draw out the volital oils that cause the rash. I my self, don't get the rash but I feel your itch.
