300 is going to be MUCH better as a 300, and very likely be better than
the zoom with a 1.4 or even 2x converter attached.
And the 300mm will be lighter and easier to handle as well!
And of course it is a Pentax :-)

I think you have to rethink this one :-)
One stop initial difference is still one stop with the TC!
2.8 plus 2x TC ==> 5.6
