Re: [313] True People: Detroit Techno Comp, Pacou, Rob Hood

2000-12-12 Thread Hugh G. Blaze

also, i saw pacou, who was surprisngly very dissapointing. He is definitely
a much better producer than dj. Rob Hood, however, was incredible. His dj
set was phenominal and his live set was even better; his flawless live
performance and the live female vocals were definitely the highlight of the
night.

I'm not sure how I feel about Rob hood's live set. I'm a longtime fan of his
music, but that set left me with mixed feelings. In some ways, it was
interesting to hear his take on some classic tracks. In another, I really
wonder what the state of the art is when techno producers start doing sets
of mostly covers.
I thought covers were relegated to the classic rock set. What's next - a
retro nostalgia phase of techno?
A lot of people I know were really dissapointed. Which is certainly not to
say you should have been, too.
But it's a little distrubing when an aesthetic that prides itself on
innovation starts reproducing earlier works verbatim, without really
trying to make them into something new.

I'm in rather dire need of the sage wisdom of this list and its members on
this issue for a project that I'm working on.

Is this good or bad for our music and culture?

When I say this I mean the fact that the mainstream press, the marketing
and advertising industries and America in general still remains clueless as
to who the artists are that we are interested in, the music that we actually
buy (as demonstrated by this poll).

Is that a good thing or bad thing? Would it be better if every city in the
US had a 5,000 person capacity multi-media and Derick May (or whoever) was
in the top 40? Would that kill the spirit of the culture, in your opinion?
Please answer - your opinions on this are invaluable to me.

Re: [313] err... (take 2)

2000-12-06 Thread Hugh G. Blaze
I guess I should be a little bit more specific in terms of what other
cultural phenomenon I was trying to reference.

I'm thinking of the U.K. Where Mega-Mega-Mega dance clubs are commonplace
and DJs are more like pop stars.

Would it be generally desirable or generally NOT desireable for the U.S. to
have a similar situation with regard to accessability within the consumer
marketplace?

That would have to be the king of all cyclical 313 threads. I'm gonna be
brief for once. I think *most* of us would like to see this get a little
more recognition, and *most* of us understand that there would be *some*
harm to the scene if Detroit techno went, and remained top 40.

happening increasingly more often as the real thing shines through the
dirge of the rest.

Silent voices *will* be heard.

This is exactly what I was trying to get at, thank you Otto. I'm working on
a project right now that draws some parallels between the UK and the US, or

wether this commercialization is mostly good or mostly bad. That's a

Marketing, advertising, Ford and techno (yet again)

2000-12-06 Thread Hugh G. Blaze

I'm the one who got detroit techno on tv.

I dunno why I didn't chime in on this weeks ago or whenever this all
started...

I work for a marketing company that handled part of the Ford Focus campaign
last year. and I think I can give a little insight into all this as well...

This ad campaign isn't an isolated phenomenon.
IE: there isn't one young guy or girl at the ad agency that came up w/this
as his baby
This is part of an extended campaign to market this car to Gen Y 18-24
year olds. It has been going on since the Focus was introduced. In fact,
Ford created the Fcous to have a product to market to this demographic.
With this latest effort, Ford is trying to pin down an increasingly hard to
pin-down youth market.
Last spring, Ford (through Spin magazine) contracted the street marketing
company I work for, Ground Control, to promote the car.
This included distributing thousands of custom made Ford Focus lollipops
(yep) at raves, record stores, and anywhere else YOU hang out.
They hire companies like Ground Control because those companies know where
you are, Ford doesn't. It's a decent side job, but one I don't take hella
seriously.
In any case, I can say with some confidence that large corporations like
Ford don't usually choose their ad campaigns at the whim of some kid at
the agency.
Everything - from the design of the product to how it is promoted, marketed
and advertised - is researched and coordinated to maximize the desired
result: selling it to the consumer.
This particulr (Det Tech) advertising campaign is part of a salvo of youth
oriented campaigns, which fetaure a variety of interests and youth cultures,
from extreme sports to young country.

Re: [313] (even more spam)

2000-11-22 Thread Hugh G. Blaze
I think 99% of the degredation of this list is because we've ruled
ourselves into a corner. And a boring, humorless corner at that. Poeple are
so afraid of not kowtowing to every 313 standard (expressed and implied)
that the creativity of posts has steadily decreased to a handful of
cookie-cutter topics that get recycled every two months. I can't remember a
a day when I DIDN'T see three posts begging forgiveness for being off
topic or not relevant enough. It's not good to have the list spiraling out
of control with off-topic conversation, but maybe we need to take the
blinders off sometimes.

Simply put, this list has a stick up its ass.
flame on...

Perhaps you don't understand my rigidity because you haven't seen the
degradation of this list. There used to be quite informative discussions
and thoroughly enlightening posts. Now the list is compromised of
playlists, track spams for mp3.com, and top ten lists. I now have to sort
through 100's of posts just to receive the content I wish to read.

So you see the 'no spam' rule was put in place to ensure content, and not
advertisement.

Sorry to have missed a good spam discussion, if I could have said this all
earlier I would have.

Cheers

i have read the 313 statement plenty of times and it seems quite
flexible and open to interpretation to me. so i am surprised that anyone
would be so rigid about it and preach that rigidity to fellow 313
members. in fact the general feeling i get from the list is that there
are more who approve of Mr Blochs (and others) ghastly sins then there
are who disapprove. you may disagree Todd, but if Mr Atkins, Mills or
May posted a link to free mp3s i do not think you would be so quick to
complain. if you missed the discussion recently about this spam topic
you should go thru the archives and if you were not so trigger-happy with
the delete key you may not have sore fingers and you wouldn't have missed
last weeks ***discussion*** in the first place. i wonder if the
people complaining make music themselves? also while we are on topic, i
found some great music online which i definitely think pushes techno
forward. www.mp3.com/bloch has some brilliant music which may be
difficult to ***discuss*** if we never got to hear it.-

Okay, let me start with the obligatory apology for OT content. But when it
comes to a quesiton about all things musical, this is the place I look.
Does anyone know anyone/anywhere where a one could get keyboard instruction
in the Detroit area? Like actually playing the thing with your hands, not
quantizing notes. I'm not ttrying to go find someplace out of the yellow
pages where some krusty dude will give me $100/hour lessons.
Not to give the wrong impression. I'm willing to spend some loot. Maybe even
$100 per lesson. But I would like the person doing the teaching to have a
little familiarity with where I (we) are coming from. But also want to learn
from someone who was themselves well trained.

Any suggestions?

Re: [313] who stole the soul?

2000-10-02 Thread Hugh G. Blaze
 that people feel
they need to be at our gigs.
Detroit needs to go back to Deep Space and bring something back that is
so out there that people will go nuts for it. Who cares if there is
another slammin dance cut, there have been a million slammin cuts, it is
time for a new Detroit sound. We need to make a new style that has its
roots in techno-soul, but is reaching further out. It is time for
Detroit to create another futuristic musical language, cause the old one
has been jacked by the rest of the world and trampled to death.

And all in 10 years or less, huh.

How many

genres have sprung from Techno, how many have come from Detroit since
then?

I am not hating on any Detroit producers, I just think that we need to
take more risks and use a bit of imagination to make weird records that
do not strictly conform to the rule book that Detroit wrote a decade

world away, people just need to have the courage to go out there and
make records that are not going to conform to people's expectations of
Detroit or what proper DJ techno is in general.

Re: [313] Q about Detroit, Richard Harvey...

2000-10-01 Thread Hugh G. Blaze
Actually there are no specific anti-rave laws like Chicago's, there's a
draconian police force though. Although enforcement is very inconsistent,
depending on what precinct the party is in, who happens to be patrolling
that night, and whether or not the Chief of Police has a hard on for parties
that week. He's been pretty busy fending off calls for his resignation
lately, though.

I just got booked to play a rave in Detroit, but I hear that there are
very tight raving laws there. Any input?

Also, is Richard Harvey really Ritchie Hawtin? I ask this because when I
was listening to de9 on that new Microsoft player, the whole first half was
either Ritchie, Richard or Jeff according to the track titles on the
player...

But i would suggest that being from the suburbs doesn't always make you
the devil, and it's not always a negative statement about the city of
Detroit. I lived there for six years and just recently moved back to the
burbs, for personal reasons, yet i still support the city and its artists,
both monetarily and morally. It's easy to take snipes at people for being
from the city or the burbs, but it perpetuates the divisiveness that has
contributed to many of Detroit's Ills.

RE: [313] Fabulous Ruins of Detroit

2000-07-03 Thread Hugh G. Blaze
I'm far from a definitive source on the matter, but as for your question of
whether new development/investment in Detroit is an actual
investment in and by the community as a whole I'd have to say there are a
lot of factors to consider.

Detroit's number one problem is that the city was built for 2 million people
and because of flight to the suburbs (sprawl) there are now probably less
than 1 million living in Detroit proper. That's a greatly deflated tax base,
and it's impossible to maintain all that infrastructure without somehow
generating revenue to account for the difference.

So in terms of generating $ for the city, things like the casinos, new
sports stadiums, Compuware headquarters relocation (to downtown from the
suburb of Farmington Hills) are good. Whether that additional revenue ever
gets allocated toward actually improving the lives/neighborhoods of real
Detroiters remains to be seen.

This has been a major point of contention within the city with a small
faction going so far as to call for the ouster of Mayor Dennis Archer
because they don't feel like they're getting their fare share of the pie
when it comes to this recent increase revenue. I personally, think they are
premature in their effort and that Mayor Archer is attacking the root cause
of the city's ill - lack of $. But we'll see in about ten years, once
everything is online whether any of that $ gets kicked to the hood, so to
speak.

This is, of course a gross simplification of the social and economic factors
that have made detroit what it is today (whatever you may call it), but I
think this is the heart of the matter. Of course, the issue of race has
played a major role, but exactly how major is, again, a hotly debated
subject. I've had the occasion to speak with/interview several PHDs from the
University of Michigan and Michigan State University who have authored books
on this subject and they have widely varying opinions.

That's another thread altogether.

But, hey, this urban decay certainly has left us with an interesting
playground in terms of the exotic locations where we get to enjoy our
music. The Packard Plant is a glaring example. Others are a huge (HUGE),
cathedral-like art deco lobby in of the David Whitney building in the
central business district (complete with a balcony on the second level
surrounding and overlooking the entire party), Several downtown office
locations around Capital Park (on Griswold, just west of Woodward and the
cbd) with breathtaking views of the skyline (it seems as though you could
reach out and grab the Ren Cen). Of course, there's the monolithic Train
Station on Michigan (which I believe is up on the ruins site) that makes for
a great post-dawn after party hangout, although I wouldn't got there at
night. Nothing like chilling on the roof of a seventeen story skeleton as
the sun comes up over the eastern skyline, what a way to cap a great night
of partying in the city!

hey man

can i get copies of these articles? for reasons i'm not even entirely aware
of myself, the idea of
urban recovery interests me greatly.. maybe it's a creeping suspicion that
all our cities are
heading that direction? i met that friend of y'alls who works for the urban
planning department
there but never had a chance to talk to her. i first started travelling to
detroit in '93, and i
can see what at first seem like improvements, though i wonder how much of
it is merely cosmetic?
demolishing abandoned buildings is one thing, but as you said replacing the
businesses they
represent in terms of socioeconomic infrastructure is another matter
entirely. one of the things
about your city that captures my attention is the sense of grass-roots
populist commitment to
improving things.. there's a sense of vitality that remains with me even
after my initial naive
romanticized ideas have faded.. it's funny to think back about my first
impressions.. the sense
that there was some homogenous militant techno underground in an abandoned
industrial wasteland..
funny, eh? never stopping to consider that the mundane facts of life were
as prevalent there as
anywhere, that people had day jobs, lives, careers, educations, family.. of
course there is a
vital music/arts community, and though Detroit is obviously the epicenter
of a cultural phenomenon
which is still developing, and very dear to me, i think it's grown beyond
mere geography despite
the parochialism displayed by some.. anyhow, my point was that to an
admitted outsider it seems to
be on the way up, and I wonder how much of this is speculative capitalist
investment by outside
interests or possibly some kind of state/federal grant program, or if it's
genuinely an actual
investment in and by the community as a whole. i'm not sure if i'm making
sense here? so yeh.. i'm

interested. ;p

RE: [313] Fabulous Ruins of Detroit

2000-07-02 Thread Hugh G. Blaze

I don't think the American public has any sense of what happened
in these buildings over the last four decades. We turned away.
And we turned away from the everyday neighborhoods of Detroit where
the people who worked there lived, and only woke up when the headlines
started screeching about murder capital and Devil's Night.

No, in fact we have not woken up here in Southeastern Michigan.
We continue to turn away, as urban sprawl decimates our landscape and
natural resources. Michigan is the fourth worst state in terms of sprawl in
the U.S. In the past twenty years, Michigan has used undeveloped land at a
rate of 77,000 acres per year, while remaining constant in terms of
population. That's according to U.S. Department of Agriculture Statistics.

For those on this list that don't already know, I'm a reporter with a local
newspaper in Metro Detroit, and I've been reporting on this topic quite a
bit in the last 12 months. It's alarming how much of our state's open land
has been turned into highways, malls, subdivisions and office buildings
while there are vast acres of land, infrastructure and hundreds of buildings
rotting in Detroit.

In fact it's a crime.

The social and economic factors contributing to this phenomenon are
virtually unknown to the public at large, and remain unaddressed. The
legislators we elect have failed us, and we have failed ourselves and our
planet. We are already feeling the environmental and economic impact of this
continued decision to ignore the problem.

Software question revisited

2000-06-22 Thread Hugh G. Blaze
A while ago I posted a question to the list about the merits of Cubase vs.
Logic audio and vice versa. Based on the discussion, I decided to go with
Cubase because it would be easier to learn. Besides, I don't really want to
do anything all that advanced, just sequence wave files along with some MIDI
data to run an outboard anaolg synth via a Kenton Pro 2000 MIDI to CV/Gate
controller. Well, things seemed to be going pretty smoothly until I realized
the MIDI output seems to be lagging a bit. That is, the timing of the notes
coming out of my synth (a Roland MC202, by the way) is off. I remember
someone on the list mentioning that they had experienced a similar problem
with Cubase, so that is why I decided to pose this quesiton once again.
Should I just scrap Cubase and go with Logic? I have cracked copies of both.
And on that note, could this be a software problem due to the crack? A
friend of mine mentioned that cracks are not always that reliable, that
sometimes the software does not run properly.

Also, I know this is all slightly OT and I was thinking about taking this
discussion to the creators list, but I've seen posts on some of the other
lists I'm on that said the creators sux? Any feedback on that?

Re: [313] Old recording techniques...

2000-06-21 Thread Hugh G. Blaze
I think there is definatly something very profound about the analogue
sound of
real to real as opposed to ADAT. When you record digitally every
millisecond

of time is accounted for and everything inbetween doesn't exsist. When
you use
tape, there exsists another dimension of time. Inbetween each kick drum
is

some kind of space that often sounds like hiss or noise.

Interesting observation - but not exactly the case. Every millisecond of
time is accounted for with tape too - I guess you just mean that the nature
of the medium and dirty heads produce different sound on each playback.

Actually, I think he was trying to say that digital recording takes a snap
shot of sound at a given point in time. Usually these snap shots, or
samples, are taken at rates around 44-48 thousand times per second. This
information is played back in much the same way as film to produce the
illusion of a continuous flow of information.
What happens between those snapshots, however miniscule, is lost. Digital
recording, by its nature, loses some data in the process.

Subject: [313] oliver chesler/summer's lust party

I know he (Oliver Chesler) did a great job clearing the dancefloor (in
fact
the whole venue) when he played in Detroit at the by the bridge space
two

years ago.

little known fact: his supposed live gig was in fact a track act to a
dat. the keyboard was just a prop. oliver was just using a microphone.
the promoter was told it was going to be a live pa and found out the truth
at the airport. after his set i dragged him outside and made him drink
jaeger with me and asked for an explanation. he said that it was too
hard

to do a live pa. wtf?

now, remember the set that mike clark played after oliver's little charade?
old skool hip hop dj skills matched with banging techno and house...

take care,
linda g

Just goes to show you: sweeping generalizations about genres are never
legit.

Oh all hardcore producers are ultra-talented you say?
Too bad Mr. Chesler foud performing a live p.a. too hard. I wonder how
Richie Hawtin would respond to the question Are live p.a.s too difficult to
pull off? Or how do you think Mr. Mills answer that question?

Re: [313] The epistemology of techno

2000-06-15 Thread Hugh G. Blaze

Well, duh.

Re: what is the definition of techno?

One has to ask first, what is a definition? A definition is a label
attached to a phenomena and it does not convey any attributes other than
those relevant for the phenomenon under examination to have
discriminative validity (I choose not to engage in the raging parsimony
debate of definitions and axioms here). In order for a definition to
have meaning, it has to be universally agreed upon by the relevant
actors. For these actors, such a definition has utilitarian value. This
value consists for instance of reduced communicational ambiguities by
creating a body of knowledge that can subsequently be used for further
advancements and refinements of the original concept (see also note 1).

Note that a definition cannot be true or false, for any potential
falsification process would consist entirely of (non-)acceptance by the
relevant actors and thus cannot be considered a falsification process in
the strict Popperian sense, since for all practical purposes, the
definition acceptance process makes definitions more akin to axioms,
which by definition cannot be falsified.

The acceptance process by the relevant actors is rarely explicit and can
be best understood as an implicitly socially constructed process between
the relevant actors. However, quite often it is not *all* relevant
actors whose actions are consequential in this process, but only a
nucleolus of actors with a high network centrality whose actions
constitute milestones in the definitional acceptance process. Yet rarely
are such actions effective immediately, given their dependency on the
receiving parties' attitude and reaction, thus rendering any decision
process by the nucleolic actors regarding their intended actions in this
process boundedly rational.

The highly amorphous nature of this definitional acceptance process
makes tracing and explicitizing it a problem of an intractible nature.
Hence, the social constructivist paradigm argues that there does not
exist a universal definition of any phenomenon, since the social
circumstances are not constant, yet they are crucial to the definition
acceptance process. This implies that definitions are potentially
subject to variations over time, thus contradicting the single most
essential aspect of a definition: its universal consistency through time
and space.

When taken to the extreme, this paradigm implies that as many
definitions can exist as there are actors and even the staunchest social
constructivists have realized that this is an untenable position from a
realistic point of view. To avoid this, they have utilized the concept
of the Anthropic Principle, which in its original form can be stated as:
A phenomenon is the way it is, because we are there to observe it in
that way. This establishes an explicit, irrevocable causal link between
the phenomenon, the observer and the observation method, a link that is
an anathema to the positivistic paradigm (note the interesting parallel
with the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle and the controversy that arose
when it was first proposed).

An important corollary of the Anthropic Principle is that, because
observer and observation method matter, once an observer starts to
describe the phenomenon under observation, there is inherently a loss of
information about the phenomenon because a different observer, using a
different observation method, would describe the phenomenon differently.
Note that this does not render any such descriptive definition invalid
from a practical standpoint, given the socially constructed process of
defining. However, it does mean that no single observer (and by
consequence, any finite number of observers) can theoretically arrive at
a complete definition, since the process of defining inherently involves
a descriptive reduction, thus rendering any definition inexorably
incomplete.

If we apply this to the definition of 'techno', it means that although a
common understanding of 'techno' has emerged (in other words: the
definition acceptance process has converged), articulating that
definition would immediately destroy the richness of the implicit
definition of 'techno', thus invalidating the question What is
techno?.

QED

Otto
PS: Note 1) A more malicious view would be that definitions are often
used to obfuscate reality, thus creating a halo of perceived expertise
around those who use those definitions, even though their expertise is
based solely on linguistical dexterity and not on a conceptual
understanding of the phenomenon under investigation. Obviously I do not
subscribe to such a view.
PS: Note 2) Yes, I am taking the piss.

Re: [313] Hell or Afrika Bambaataa

When he played for a crew I was working with in Detroit in '98 he wasn't
all

that. It was cool to get to see a living legend in the flesh, especially
'cause i got to pick him up from the airport and talk w/him a little (and
bring him KFC, which WAS IN HIS CONTRACT). But his set wasn't all that,
he
played the latest commercial Hip-Hop (Busta Rhymes, Lil Kim) and he
didn't

Then,

other hand, there has been numerous occasions where Helll has ripped me a
new arsehole.

I very much doubt if that was the intention - if you've followed
Bambaataa's

career really closely or read interviews you'll understand that he doesn't
see music in terms of segregation and he probably believes that what
Aerosmith and Guns And Roses do arises from the blues, which was Black
culture, so he is probably trying to show people the source of much of our
popular culture. He promotes diversity and open-mindedness. That's his
platform. The same dialectic was at work when he took Kraftwerk - inspired
by James Brown - and turned it into Planet Rock. That said, I can't stand
those 80s rock bands and I wouldn't want to listen to them. DJ Hell is one
of my absolute favourite DJs and has his own unique 'gigolo' style - a mix
of Germanic and US influences with the almost camp aesthetic/humour of
Kraftwerk. He plays lots of electro and the occasional disco through to
Mills. He is just fabulous. If you haven't seen him before, I would
recommend him. There isn't anything wrong with Busta Rhymes either,
commercial or not. :) He is an innovator - and Hell is a fan of his,
actually. Play track 6 on Busta's last LP and tell me that intro doesn't
sound like Millsian techno. You could cut that up that intro into a quick
mix very easily. But, alas, I digress.

Hey, slow down there, guy. Who said there was anything wrong with Busta? I
just said his shit was commercial. Deny that.

[313] (OT) Software question (revised and updated)

2000-06-08 Thread Hugh G. Blaze
So far the votes are Cubase: 3 (or maybe 4) cakewalk: 2 and logic: 0. My
quesiton is:Why?
Is cubase that much easier to use than logic? I've heard Logic is quite a
bitch. I'll say this much, I thought Acid was pretty much a toy, not that
I'm bragging about my abilities, rather speaking to Acid's ease of use (and
inherent limitations). I knew Acid in and out within a two days of
installing it. It's just that I've hit a wall as far as what I want to do
with my computer and in order to climb over that wall i need to move on to a
more powerful chunk o' software.

I swore by Cakewalk for sequencing midi till I got the MPC2000, since than
computers have left my studio.

Funny you might say that, I swore by an MPC 2000 until I started using my
PC, it just seems so much more intuitive, plus I hated staring at that
miniscule display for hours on end.

But for audio I think Cubase is better (don't know

about Logic).

2000-06-08 Thread Hugh G. Blaze

Basically, if you just want to do simple MIDI sequencing to outboard
gear and toss some waves over it, use whatever is easiest for you.

That's exactly what i want to do. I love acid for it's ease of use but have
a compendium of vintage synths that I just can't leave in the closet anymore
(I have a Kenton midi/cv converter). Plus, I'm getting a new soundcard to
run all the .wav files to seperate channels on my Mackie. So far I'm really
turned off by what i hear about logic, beacaue all I really want to do is
throw my synth lines over the .wav that I'm currently working with in Acid,
instead of having to sample them and drop them into the program. Discuss.

But if you
want serious next-level audio and MIDI wrangling, Logic Audio 4 on a G4
with

Hyperengine and a bunch of plugins is the hottest thing that exists.

Re: [313] (OT) Software q+a

2000-06-08 Thread Hugh G. Blaze

Second: if you're used to Acid, either Logic or Cubase is going to seem
kind of hostile. Neither does any kind of automagical tempo adjustment and
neither one has as friendly an interface. Prepare for that.

That's fine because I'm used to an MPC2000 which doesn't do the handy
tempo stuff, and has a HORRIBLE interface. Before that I used outboard
modular gear. It's not really that I can't learn or am afraid to use to use
a more involved program, I just don't want to spend that much time on the
learning curve. I'm really happy w/acid but want the additional freedom of
dropping my own synth lines over the .wav, much in the way I used to with my
MPC2000. That's it.

However, once you get past that unfortunate learning curve, Logic is
great. The screensets are powerful and fast to use, the MIDI environments
allow you to do amazing tricks once you learn how to use them, and the
sequencing is easily the tightest out there.

I'm not that well-versed on the audio side because I use a sampler, but
every professional musician I know who does serious audio sequencing uses
Logic. Most of these people are into either IDM digitial glitch stuff or
jungle - it seems like audio isn't as big a thing in 313-style music yet,
where
most people seem to use older outboard gear instead of computer-based
digital

craziness.

Basically, if you just want to do simple MIDI sequencing to outboard
gear and toss some waves over it, use whatever is easiest for you. But if
you
want serious next-level audio and MIDI wrangling, Logic Audio 4 on a G4

This world is just not fair to us hard working artists sometimes.

Anyway this heart wrenching message comes from my heart and soul and the
need to share our sound creations with all of you on this list. I can only
describe that the sounds we create have alot of the detroit routes since i
lived here all my life , yet the experimental randomness makes it at times
sound a bit more on a tribalistic tech-step feel. I hate to even try
to

categorize it, however I heard the description of jungleish style sound
done all on analogue gear has been given this title. We arent jungle, but
we are %100 live with analogue gear and my very intricate beat manipulation
at times sounds jungleish or d+b ish.

O.k. thats enough, I apalogize for the pathetic display of violin playing.
If anyone can be of some assistance I would very much appreciate this.

Where can I get info about the press conference. I am a reporter for a local
media source, and would like to register. I didn't see anything on the
website.

How redundant can I get? I meant and will be
attending the press conference

Too many webpages, not enough sunshine I guess...

2000-04-12 Thread Hugh G. Blaze

Take another hit off the bong.

Umm, I've finally decided to release my final mix CD in time for the
Detroit Music Festival, for all yeah waiting for the scoop on this one, I
will start it off with two minutes of complete silence in which I will
illustrate the spacial dynamics of sound not really being heard, the
texture momentum of our frequency range as a human being which I might add
is between 20 hrz to 20,000 hrz will fluently be explored, I plan on
adding frequency ranges to which only neighbouring yard animals or
personal pets would be able to fully understand, I find that exploring
these organic sounds to the extent that...really forced geeky sample
hey guys can I play my synth here? will fully compress the sound
dynamics that I've been searching for, my drive to find new ways of
finding patterns within, within, within patterns will leave most of you
banging your hands for no particular reason, waiting to order something at
McDonalds...do look for my new way of making ya'll move at the Festival
cuz I plan on staying there (in one spot) for captains log start date
9383 rounded off to the neareast decimal point, we've travel... the
entire 3 days...=)

now that's inovation =)

2000-01-24 Thread Hugh G. Blaze

Hey all,
Does anyone LIVING IN THE DETROIT AREA have a friend/family member or has
anyone personally used the Internet to either buy a car or research car
prices?
I'm a freelance writer for Time. Inc. doing an article on said topic and
I would like to interview any person fitting the above criterea. It would be
quick, about 5 minutes, and I would pay for the call, of course.

  Please respond privately.
Sorry for the non 313-content but I'm desperate. Because of the nature of
the piece I'm writing I need to find someone in the Detroit metro area.

  Thanks,

I have this and I actually don't like it all that much (please, before you
crucify me for having such an obviously lowbrow and insolent opinion,
remember, there's no accounting for taste). Anyway, would anyone be
interested i buying/trading for it?

And i think i remember reading about another
DEC 12 called braille on his own DEC label
but i dont have it and have never seen it.

This definitely exists, but I don't have it. I saw it in Fat Cat years
ago but (incredibly stupidly, in retrospect) didn't pick it up...

Yes, this did come out and was very limited. It contained 3 tracks from
what I remember. And it was like a promo for the Ferox LP Soundtrack 313
