[arr] Mind Language - The Indians at the Oscars

2009-04-09 Thread up84mouli
Hi Guys,

I had written a post before about having uploaded a photo.

I don't know what happened because the area is still blank.

I would like you take a look at the blog dualogs.blogspot.com

The latest one written over there has the picture. It feels great to me
whenever I look at it and get an amazing feeling.

Of course, the source of inspiration is A R Rahman, Resul, and their messages
to people at the Oscars - or to the whole world - actually. Whenever I want to
relive the experience I had that day - when the names were announced - I just
pull up this picture.

Hope you all liked it.

Thanks.
Chandra.

[arr] Musicians are God's messengers

2009-04-08 Thread up84mouli
Hi everybody,

Hope you are fine.

Rahman's success at the oscars has influenced me a lot. It has been like that
since Roja, but the oscar success and his message has had such an influence on
me that I don't want it to go away!!

Resul talked about OM at the oscars. He does sound design. It is a very
powerful symbological statement that cannot be expressed by words.

I have uploaded a photo under the name Musicians are gods. I want to know how
you feel about it.

It is only a reflection of the influence that the oscar winners had on me. In
fact, I've like to know what either of them feels about it.

It's just a simple idea. My point of view.

Thanks,
Chandra.

[arr] Somebody answer me this...

2008-11-28 Thread up84mouli
Hi guys,

I am gonna get deadly blastings in some replies to this mail but this
question is never getting out of my head for quite few days. Thought I
will ask you :-)

Why does Rahman use Madhusree, Blaaze, Naresh Iyer, Udit Narayanan,
Sukhwinder, and such singers who cannot render Tamil that much
properly? Is it the lack of good Tamil singers? Is Rahman not aware
that people are upset when they listen to such songs?

Does Rahman have no choice? Are the producers demanding him to use
M'sree, lots of English lyrics, Raps and all such (mostly) unnecessary
stuff??

The only benefit I see here is that Rahman can maintain goodwill with
that such producers who can give him more projects because if he
rejects, they might cry foul and try to bring down his image.

Or is it Rahman himself who does this because that is what others do??
Why doesn't he attempt something like this in Hindi? Why doesn't he
take a Tamil singer who sings Regeta Hai instead of Rehta hai the
proper way? Why cant he create a new style there?

Is it because of the fear of producers or is it because Rahman
respects Hindi language and bollywood more than kollywood??

Do reply.

Thanks guys,
Chandra.

[arr] Re: Are we not spending enough time with A R Rahman's new music?

2008-11-24 Thread up84mouli
Dear guys,
Hope you all are fine!

To answer the question above...

The truth is that people who generally just love to listen to film
music dont reserve time exclusively for a particular person. Only the
respective fans and fanatics do that...

How other people judge music is by its simplicity and hummability. The
Lyrics also play a major part. A music director has to understand
these sensibilities and produce a song with these elements. Just a
couple of heavy chartbusters will do... he can play with the rest of
the songs in his style.

Earlier people were the same. They had access to numerous film music
releases through TV's and Radios but still songs from Roja were
blockbusters and it's success spread like wildfire.

People were forced to make time to listen to it. That is how Rahman
got popular. Then he maintained consistency. Even in albums like
Gentleman and Kadhalan, there may have songs like Chiku bukku and
Pettai Rap but there were evergreen classics which people played
over and over again. Same thing with many other albums.

Now, when Parasuram came, people didn't care. They dont have to... Why
should a housewife spend one hour listening to an entire album with
songs like Jack and Jill and try to understand the brilliance and
musical nuances which Rahman fans seriously claim it is there??

Even though Radio (a simple low-price device accessible to even the
poorest of the poor) is changeable anytime, recently people have been
stopping it to listen to Kangal irandaal..., Taxi..., some songs
from Dhaam Dhoom, and some songs from Saroja because those songs are
highly enjoyable.

People - when they love a song so much - just need one frame or a
couple of seconds of audio to identify it. This is determined by the
power of the song, the ability of the song to penetrate so deeply into
a person's feelings and provide him that much joy.

I am sorry to say but only many of Rahman's earlier compositions pull
the strings in my heart. What is amazing is that they still retain the
quality.

Rahman is not the only player in this field. There are several others
who also do good work. Unless he makes songs that have the power to
penetrate into the top slots of the TV channels and everyone's
personal music devices, even his fan base may start decreasing...

Thanks,
Chandra.

[arr] About the ARR-SPB national anthem retune...

2008-04-06 Thread up84mouli
Hi All...

Just read an article in Kumudam - A Tamil weekly.

Sorry if this is an old post or was already discussed before...

The writer - among other things - expresses dissatisfaction about the
way national honor or pride is compromised in various situations.

Topping the list was the way the National Anthem remake is displayed
across the Sathyam theater screens after a movie.

These are the two mistakes:

1. The song is too long: Actually National Anthem should be in a
specific tune and tempo and should exactly end within a particular
time but this song overrides all these things and it seems is legally
wrong.

2. There is no certification that accompanies the song, which again
is a major blunder.

The person concluded saying that he would never heed the request to
stand up for the song as it is not legal and hence there is no need to
add to the disrespect already created...

Any comments??

Thanks,
Chandra.

[arr] Some debatable decisions...

2008-03-23 Thread up84mouli
Hi All,

Some decisions made by Rahman in the recent past regarding Singer
selections have been debatable...

1. Nityashree singing Jack and Jill in Parasuram. I still wonder why
she even accepted it. Is it because of Rahman??

2. Janaki singing Enthan Nenjil in a movie. I forgot the name. It
was acted by Manoj (Bharatiraja's son), but not Taj Mahal. Do you even
remember it??? huh...

3. Sunitha Sarathi singing My wish comes true... from Kisna. It
wasn't very proper choice... even for the situation in the movie. No
probs with Vasundara Das for Lagaan though! The rendition for
Warriors in peace... from WOHE was slightly better, i feel.

Just some minor irritations in the otherwise perfect list I guess...
Please share your opinions.

Thanks.
Chandra.

ADA was renamed KAZAN (or KHAZAN) and that name with some detail is
still available through IMDB website.

It is said that Rahman recorded 9 tracks on the trot for the first
time ever... Donno if it is still to be believed.

I have searched and asked for it before 3 or 4 years in many websites
and posts and never ever recieved an encouraging reply. The wait
...hmm... might be over!!

Another thing I want to know: Whatever happened to the RAHMAN 3D
concert DVD releases?? Will it be released?? Can someone close to
Rahman please ask him and get a confirmation for the benefit of all of
us group members??

Anyways, nice to know that the next year is gonna be a great one for
Rahman with so many great projects set for release!

Thanks and kind regards.

A R Rahman is the FIRST MD to win the National Award on his DEBUT.

Ismail Darbar is another debutant to win the National Awards for his
first film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam but that was only after Rahman's
Roja (1994).

My replies:

Most of it is a guess 'coz I'm not sure of the answers...

1. The Airtel Tune (There were 5 versions which you could save in your

2. Lucky Lucky from Ratchagan. This was along with SPB too, i think.

3. False (I had a gut feeling to write True here though...)

4. Colours (Where he was Dilip and credited for Keyboard). You might
expect Set Me Free here. As A R Rahman it is Roja.

5. Rahuman is A R Rahman's sister's husband. I think he is the father
of G V Prakash.

[arr] Re: Munbe Munbe Vaa is a complete lift of a sample!

2007-08-02 Thread up84mouli
Hi Karthik!

These are my observations to what you have written.

tell me Mr. Brain, why would some one search a song and just use a
10 second sequence from a song to compose some thing which is now a
historic tune...

Many have similarly accused Harris Jeyaraj for the same thing. The
song was Mudhal Kanavae where there was JUST ONE bit resembling the
LEO coffee ad - which too is damn historic.

Just see the tempo of the Muththu Muththu sirippu part and the
airtel tune

It is not a 'direct' lift. The Airtel tune is a tune which resembles
another tune. In short - it is not an original work. Only Rahman can
say with absolute certainty whether he copied it or not. What we say
are just opinions and observations...

But it is definitely frustrating when you come to know that a tune we
love so much was already composed by someone else much earlier...

Just because some bald fellow comments in aTV program (Baski in
Vijay TV), do not vomit the same thing here again.

Whats wrong with that? Don't we share good things? Some go to the
extent of copying the audio/video itself (which is sometimes illegal)
and putting it on the net for sharing.

But calling names and pointing fingers on someone like you have done
is what is disturbing.

This makes me why , why did IR use this part of the tune (muthu
muthu sirippu...in a song where the original starting tune is
different as it goes deepankal pesum.

This has to do with creativity. Sahana had thiruppavai lyrics in a
different tune! Sarfarosh ki tamanna from TLOBS has a change in
tempo! Many such Rahman masterpieces can be quoted but for the lack of
time and space.

Thanks and regards.
Chandra.

[arr] Re: Munbe Munbe Vaa is a complete lift of a sample!

2007-08-01 Thread up84mouli
Hi All...

To say that 'Rahman has never copied' is not that right...

There are some instances where he has lifted or been inspired by other
musical works and tunes and has used it in his compositions.

One such example is the Airtel tune. It is lifted from a song by the
maestro Ilayaraja for the film: Devadai

This link has that song...
http://tamilcinema.dk/songs/songview.asp?songid=1234

There is a chorus line which goes:
Muthu muthu sirippu... (2 or 3 lines)

and then...
Pakkathile neruppaa... (2 or 3 lines)

Another example: The song O Bhaavre... (Daud) is inspired from the
song O Saathi Re...

Thanks.

2007-07-28 Thread up84mouli
Hi All..!

Hope everybody's fine.

This is more like a quiz on ARR targeted for the newbies and people
who like such quizzes and trivia in general.

Finding answers should be easy - so no prizes for guessing! Most of
them are related to what Rahman did as a FIRST or something
interesting of that sort.

Read questions carefully as there might be a hint in it.

1. ROJA was a debut for some of today's well-knowns in Audio/Music
scene. Name some of them you know.
2. Where was the first ever AR Rahman concert held?
3. Which was the first group/band of singers to sing for Rahman?
4. Who was the first non-indian singer to sing for Rahman?
5. Where was first ever Rahman concert held in INDIA?
6. Which was the first song by Rahman to have 3 or more singers
singing the lead track(s) in the same song?
7. Which was Rahman's first instrumental track to feature in the
film's CD/Cassette release?
8. Which was the first movie to have an extra song composed by Rahman
not featuring in the CD/Cassette releases of the same?
9. After ARR started doing films, which was the first product/brand
he endorsed?
10. For which of his movies did Rahman sing his first FULL song?
11. Who was the first HINDI film director to sign Rahman for his film?
12. Going by the filmy-order, which was Rahman's first song for a
first-night situation?
13. Name the first movie where Rahman was 'one-of-the' composers?
Which was the song he composed?

Hope you liked it. Just send the answers for the group (NOT to me) and
let everybody have a small RahmanIQ recollection..!

Kind regards.

Even in case he decides to move out of HJ, I feel he will go to IR and
not to ARR unless absolutely necessary (Like for example he is
offered a Hindi film or something).

But one director who can do wonders with ARR is DHARANI. He is the one
who made films like DHOOL, DHIL, GILLY (All with Vidyasagar). Songs
in all these films were super-duper hits and the films were
blockbusters at the BO..!

Thanks.

his films are too violent in nature, but he thinks its realism. And
to an extent, he's true because violence exists in real world.

ARR would make a great combo with Gautham. Gautham will have to move
out of HJ because they are repeating their tunes again and again. HJ
is not coming up with anything new.

I am still hoping ARR-Gautam combo come together once!

[arr] I need some answers...

2007-01-23 Thread up84mouli
Hi Fans,

Excuse me for being off-guru with such a post as this...

Can someone try to answer these questions 'coz its bugging me for
sometime and I am not able to get a good relevant info on these...

1. What happened to the UOL concert DVDs? Will it EVER get released?

2. Whatever happened to a film called Chamki Chameli? Does someone
know about the current status about it?

3. Will there be a Guru BGM CD release as I heard sometime before?
Also, is the release of Provoked really confirmed??

4. Mani is supposed to go with IR again and he sort of confirmed it in
an interview. Whats up?

5. What are the next Rahman's FILM releases? Coz I know that he is
planning to release a couple of personal albums this year.

Any help will be appreciated

Thanks.
Chandra.

[arr] Re: Whats missing in ARR - my explanation #??

2006-12-20 Thread up84mouli
Hi Fans,

I dont know what is the number of this explanation, but anyway -
thought I will also do my bit here...

When you consider seriously, there may be some possibilities as I
have listed them below.

1. Guru might not have needed that kind of sound. Mani was probably
given some samples and it might well be HE who decided it.

2. Rahman probably hires those equipments as a cost-cut measure and
Mani is an MBA. So, they might have calculated a lot of things about
what is important rather than going with THE BEST always...

3. Guru involves a period element in its story. That is why they
didn't use ultra-modern lyrics and so did away with the ultra-sfx
sound stuff and went with something that is warm and original,
reminding us to some extent the (g)olden times. That is my reasoning
why there was a song like Baazi Lagaa in the first place, but why it
DIDNT sound at least like the rest is something I myself am thinking
about...

4. I will now return to the old classical arguement and mention ONLY
ONE point that suit this writing IN GENERAL - including, but not
restricted to Guru.

Rahman uses more LIVE instruments and wants them to sound just like
that (WHHIWWH (What he hears is what WE hear)) - of course with some
manipulations and improvisations here and there...

Finally, I DONT get a feeling something has gone wrong.

Please reply to the following:

Mention some ARR songs which sounded EXACTLY like HR's Unnaale
Unnaale. So that...

a. We can understand what you (the person who started it and those who
support it) are trying to refer exactly as the difference.

b. We can try to respond quantitatively to the message...

Thanks for reading.
Chandra.

unnale unnale is a ameatur album in my view.. he starts off with the
strings u think u are upto a rock song but suddenly he brings in pop
beats..finally makes up a song that is loud but not clear..harris in
my point is recycling old christian songs.u would have noticed that
the song paartha mudhal naale is an abrupt copy of the song yesu
pirantharey.. quality and even in ur terms loudness wise rahman is not
in the comparable distance.. hear meenaxi.. hear lakeer, tehzeeb u will
feel the difference.. of course tamil has a lot of classics ..have u
heard love birds of rahman except malaragale i would call it an album
similar to harris.. it was popular at tht time but today no one
listens to it like they listen to roja ,alaipayuthe kandukondain etc..
harris albums r all the ame like love birds..

sillenu oru kadhal had different sounds thats wht a rahman album is
all about.. u get set to the sounds after repetitive hearing.. i dunt
know what ur musical taste is but ppl like me would wait for new
sounds in every rahman album.. guru is a classic don't compare it with
unnale unnale..its like comparing pudhiya mugam and minnale.. rahman
isnt missing anything.. in fact he is giving more loops to harris for
 free lol
music is all abt hearing new sounds in different combo's so cheer up..

ARR is trying somehing newbut I would suggest he uses very few

  1. Oh vennilla (kadhal desam)

It is good - okay - but the excessive repetition of the lines could

Good or Bad..? Cant say. Cant ignore as well. Thats for sure.

[arr] Re: WATER songs: Download videos of 6 songs as in movie

2006-05-07 Thread up84mouli

Hi Boss,

Can you please rip MP3 (96 kbps, maybe?) songs from the AUDIO cd..?

This is because the size will then be 4-6 MB per song and will be
easier to download.

It will be fair because it has not yet released in India and also that
you would finally be giving slightly low-quality (bit rate) songs.

Please let us know if you can..!

Eagerly awaiting a (positive!) response...

[arr] Roja 5.1 Dolby DVD - Is this 'The One'

2006-05-07 Thread up84mouli

Hi Fanz,

Please look at this link below:

http://www.indiancdstore.com/ViewDetails.asp?p_id=254

This says Roja DVD is available in the 5.1 Dolby encoded format. A
user has even written a review for it (Hope he is in the group!).

I know the duo (ARR + Mani) launching a Roja International Version DVD
recently, the reason being the storyline will still hold good.

The bad thing is that in that DVD (Intl. version), some songs have
been trimmed whereas the SFX (videos and songs) stuff have been given
a slight makeover. Hope it is in the wi-sci (widescreen) format as well.

If it is so, then getting the Rose-y voiceless BGM's is no thorn in
the neck, literally..!!

Thanks for reading.

Some more I can suggest...

1. Poo Kodiyin Punnagai - Iruvar

2. Maargazhi Thingal - Sangamam

3. Minsaara Kanna - Padayappa

4. Shakti Kodu - Baba

5. Thom Ta Da Re Dirana - Thakshak

Maybe you can try Jiya Jale and Ye Naaznee in that format. I know
nothing about that Dance, though...Just a suggestion.

[arr] Rahman's favo lines from Nee Kattum...

2006-05-01 Thread up84mouli

Hi Fanz,

Just recently read a post about T L Maharajan talking about the song
he sung for Rahman.

In a film launch for that film, the song Nee Kattum Selai..., was
widely discussed. Vairamuth and Rahman were both present. Here is a
small portion which I remeber...

Vairamuthu was asking almost all of them about the best part of that
song. When it came to our Boss, he praised these lines:

Nee vetti vetti podum nagathilellam;
Kutti kutti nilavu theriyudhadi.

Translation:

When you cut your fingernails and throw them;
I see that all of them are like small moons (The arc of moon, rather).

Superb selection, boss.

Thanks for reading.
Chandra.

[arr] Some news on Sakkarakatti interview - Deccan Chronicle

2006-05-01 Thread up84mouli

Hi Fanz,

Nice to read the news that GURU is on the way to its completion. I am
surprised how MANI gets to make RAHMAN work like a Japanese train.

Also, in the SAKKARAKATTI film-launch event, more news had been given
in the Deccan Chronicle daily. Here is it.

1. He works for important films - The importance here is to the
banner, people who vibe well with him, the director etc. If these kind
of people approach him, he does not (usually) decline.

2. On his future projects, he DOES NOT mention DASSAVARAM as one. The
others were - Elizabeth Sequel (Shekar Kapoor), Sivaji, JOK, GURU etc.

3. He is going to cut a personal album very soon. KM MUSIQ will be the
collabration arm or something.

Thanks for reading.
Chandra.

[arr] What Rahman can consider...

2006-03-16 Thread up84mouli
Hi Fanz,

This is a list of movie types/genres/kinds that Rahman can consider
scoring for, if it comes his way...

Please note that I am not saying he should (or should have) score(d)
for the movies mentioned. I just gave an example or a reference.

1. Full fledged Horror films - like Sixth Sense, Final Destination,
The Ring, and many others.

2. Action or Adventure type - like Indiana Jones, Tomb Raider,
Spiderman, The Italian Job, MI, etc.

3. Fantasy films - like Harry Potter or C.O.Narnia type. Even
animation films like Finding Nemo, Ice Age, Polar Express etc.

4. Science Fiction films - like The Time Machine, Back to the
Future, ET, Jurassic Park, Anaconda etc.

There are not much Tamil or Hindi counterparts to the movies
mentioned above. Some of the movies above were/are Trendsetters.

The only problem is that most of these movies require SFX or BGM type
of sounds rather than Strong Melodies, which Rahman likes.

But they will provide a lot of variety. Most of these movies deal
with situations, characters, or the world itself which are extremely
different or non-existant. All this provides tremendous scope for
experimentation to the extreme.

As for some Non-Film project...

1. What about Scoring for a Game? - NFS, T.Raider, Prince of Persia
etc. are wonderful games which have plenty of scope for music.

Gaming industry is equally big and second only to (In the US)
Hollywood. People like it when Music connects strongly with the
Visual aspects of a game. So why not..??

And finally the one we are almost desparate for...

2. Some personal albums - The last I heard about Conf. of the birds
is that it is still in consideration. Hope it works out.

Thanks for reading.
Chandra.

[arr] Re: Rahman interview in Sunday Mid-day - What do you do at home??

2006-03-13 Thread up84mouli
Hi Fanz,

Did you notice that??

I keep ARR-anging things - Rahman..!

Now, arranging is a musical term. Shows his strong devotion to
music. Even casual language begins to have some professional (in
Rahman's case, Musical) terms and connotations.

I also remember this statement he said in an interview:
I dont blow my own trumpet - Rahman...and then he chuckled.

...and also this (incomplete, though):
Hope I (or is it It, referring to some composition maybe) will be
remembered for many more EARS to come (Please guys, I am NOT AT ALL
sure of this, but remember reading it somewhere).

I am sure whoever has the pleasure of listening to him at a frequent
basis can become musically inclined even if they were not so earlier.

Thanks for reading.

[arr] Re: how to play BGM...+ A request. Plz read

2006-03-10 Thread up84mouli
Hi Everybody,

Zip Genius is an alternative. It is a complete freeware as opposed
to WinRar whose free edition has some limitations. Also it handles
almost all (non-)popular compression formats incl. Zip, Rar, 7Z, etc.

Ever since I started using it, I have not used others, but kept my
old favorite Win Rar (free edition) just for backup.

A request to fanz:

Instead of worrying about the T-Shirt, why don't someone release:

An A R Rahman Special CD/DVD whose contents would be...

1. Voiceless BGMs
2. Extra Movie Songs
3. Some Wallpapers
4. Some rare interview videos

and other stuff which are worth sharing...

The one who takes initiative can set a nominal price for the CD as
the manufacturing, postage, and handling costs.

For fanz like me who dont live life on the broad-ways of the web, it
will be really useful.

Please give it a serious consideration. Can any of the admins create
a POLL for this??

Anyway, thanks.
Chandra.

[arr] Re: God father-a r rahman continue his same style

2006-03-01 Thread up84mouli
Hi Joseph and others,

It is NOT the variety which is missing.

There are 2 things which makes you think this way...it is
the selection of projects that is something ARR should consider.

1. We had a string of period stuff like: Bose, Minaxi, MP, and
Water releasing one after the other (I forgot the order) and with Aa
Aah, RDB, GF and others to follow, we have the modern stuff.

It could make some listeners think about Line Assembly. If there
was a careful juggling in between these albums with equal space in
between, I can say that only very less people would have complained.

But of course, the arguement that ARR is NOT responsible for the film
or audio releases is definitely valid.

2. Due to the period rut which ARR himself got into (he has pulled
out now), the demand was to see the vintage ARR stuff. Even in our
group, this has been the talk recently.

Our group is definitely a sample space which means the real head
count of people's expectations should be mind-blowing.

Aa-Aah was (at that time) a sole consolation, but RDB and GF are
excellent. They are chartbusters in their respective language areas.
The very fact that you find songs in GF reminding you of Bombay and
Jeans are strong proofs that it has the old charm!

Thanks.
Chandra.

Hi Fanz,

Sholay, B aur T, and Neend may not be ARR projects.

In Tamil we have...

1. Dashavataram (Kamal),
2. Jillunu Oru Kaadhal (Surya),
3. Shivaji (Rajinikanth),

They are the 3 hottest stars in Tamil industry now. Ajith's Godfather
is yet to hit theatres.

So, Rahman will not only clear the long and pending ARRears but will
become the commercial king in Tamil once again..!

[arr] Re: Anyone feel GF quality of audio CD seems lacking?

2006-02-25 Thread up84mouli
Hi Fanz,

This (Issues regarding Quality of CDs) seems to be true to an
extent...at least for casual listeners.

I have a viewpoint for this. My understanding is that ARR used (let us
assume) a 40 : 60% ratio of Live : Simulated instrumentation. The
reason is that either the instruments were costly or unavailable in
India, which explains why others didn't even think of it and also
explains why Rahman sounded generationally different than others.

He gradually turned the ratio on its head and now is using more and
more live instrumentations and stuff.

So, the ambience may be different. For normal users (like me) it
sounds different I guess...

If you take albums like AP or , you will find any given song to
have more focus, sharper beats, less diffusion in instrumentation,
well defined solos and all that...

But listen to something like Boys, you will see some diffusion (I dont
know how it is on high-end stereos and 4+ speaker setups) and the
punchy sounds will not be as good as (say) Kadhalan or Jeans.

The best comparisons would be with Zubeidaa (I feel the sound this
has is like Unparalleled) and many others Dil Se, and many others in
that time period.

Disclaimer:
This is just my view. I dont know anything about Music or how the
Recording works. I have just written my observations...

Thanks for reading.
Chandra.

[arr] Re: Non-Musical Sounds in ARR's Work

2006-01-20 Thread up84mouli
Hi All...

This has been discussed MUCH earlier in some other thread. I am just
going to give few more details from it. Nothing new about it..!

1. Typewriter sound - Kaathalan - Mukkaala Mukkabula song.

2. Cellphone ring sound - Kaathal Virus - Hey Hey Enna Aachu song.

3. Water droplet sound - May Maadham - Yen mel vizhuntha song.

4. Water splash sound - Meenaxi - Yeh Rishtaa song.

5. Glass break effect - Baba - Baba Kichu Kichu song. In the Re-
recording, some Knife sound effects were used in a really cool way.

6. Glass break effect - Yuva/AE - Jana Gana Mana song.

7. Bell sound - Baba - The opening prayer song. The chorus part of
this song is believed to be a rip-off from another song.

8. Bird sounds - Kisna - Hum hain iss pal song. There are many
more like May Maadham - Margazhi Poovey also...

I am sure this will only increase.

It says that Rahman likes to work for the situations in the song
giving importance to Macro arrangements and thus enhancing the
quality of the song.

Thanks for reading.
Chandra.

[arr] Re: shelved projects of arr

2005-12-04 Thread up84mouli
Hi Fanz,

In another post, I wrote that GODFATHER poster was visible in one of
the shops off Ritchie Street, Chennai. It is scheduled to release
sometime in DECEMBER and this news is 99.9% confirmed.

As for RAWAT'S inquiry, I managed to find out this link:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0449800/

I now distinctly remeber that the wordings of the director matched
that of another old project called: ADA. Its no surprise 'coz ADA was
a project to be done by A R Rahman. Maybe GOPS can help here..!?

Replying to this current post, these are some more snippets...

1. Rahman refused Kamasutra. Okay, lets make it a trivia. Anyone knows
 the reason for the refusal??

2. Rahman was supposed to do ASHOKA and gave some (snatches of) tunes,
but it shifted to Anu Malik. Similar thing happened to FIZA.

3. Rahman recorded for Govind Nihlani first, much before he did for
RGV (Rangeela). But something happened and it did not come out.

4. Rahman was supposed to do: Tanzen and Baiju. Donno what happened.

5. Rahman did a small BGM for the Indian Navy (or is it Army?)
celebration. If someone has the piece, please pass it on...

6. The Super-Star Flop, BABA had 2 unreleased songs. One is the BABA
RAP, which we all know. The other is a song in praise of his mother
witten by Vairamuthu. It didn't fit and was removed.

7. 4 tunes were recorded for the movie: MOTHERLAND, supposed to be
directed by Subash Ghai. Might never happen. His earlier movie TAAL
has a song: KYA DEKH RAHI HO TUM...MERI AANKHON MEIN, which I think
was NOT a part of the CD. Please confirm...it's a beautiful piece
which finally merges with the opening chorus of: TAAL SE TAAL MILA.

And one more info...The KANCHIPURAM WEAVER dream project, if I
remember correctly, was supposed to be by PRIYADARSHAN and NOT by
Rajiv Menon as mentioned...please confirm.

Thanks for reading.
Chandra.

Re: [arr] DIL SE...something new!

2005-11-30 Thread up84mouli
Hi Gomtesh,

I meant that when rendering the Hindi vocals, the voice is a bit
dizzy, whereas in the Tamil verison, every word seems to be sharp.

I now feel the PITCH difference is due to the lyrics itself.

When rendering the Hindi poetry in that manner, and due to Boss not
being comfortable with the language (Its possible, coz the film was
made long back), he had used a subdued voice and sung normally for
the Tamil version...

I still dont know. Somebody who has both (or either of the) originals
may be able to confirm whether there is really a difference or not?!

Thanks for reading.

   1. The Tamil rendition by the master is somewhat sharp when

   2. The interlude (one of the BEST unparalleled in the entire

Re: [arr] Future Projects of A R Rahman...

2005-11-30 Thread up84mouli
Hi Rawat,

About Kaza or Qaza, I also remember scantily about that. Not sure of
the name, though.

I think Water version what we get is almost the final. No review on
it mentioned about the number of songs.

Only One of them until now had hinted -half-a dozen soul stirring
songs, which (I think) almost fixes it there...

As I would re-phrase from Keats - Heard melodies are sweet. Those
unreleased are sweeter,- I WILL take anything Xtra it has by A R R.

Bye and Thanks.
Chandra.

These are some of the projects in which our boss is involved.

  1. Rang De Basanti and LOTR musical - very obvious releases for
this
year. Dont know if LOTR CD or DVD will release as Audio version.

  2. Godfather (T) - This is definitely on. I even saw a poster in a
shop off Ritchie Street, Chennai. It was written: Next Month
Release.

  3. Sivaji (T) - Dir: Shankar, Stars: The Superstar RAJINI and
Shriya.

  4. Taj Mahal - It was supposed to be India's first IMax film.
Donno
what's happening. Ash was roped in for playing the Mumtaz
character.

  5. Water - The music, at least, should release shortly.

So what is the final number of tracks in it?

Is it those mp3s which were downloaded from the site, or are
there several more as per cd list?

  6. A/C and Puli - Simbu and Vijay respectively will star in these
movies, both directed by S. J. Surya. No detais yet...but will be
made, coz the dir has given 3 super hits in a row!

  7. (Okay, 8 it is) Buddha and The Golden Age - by Shekhar Kapur.
Talks
more works less, as one of my friends says about him :-)

  9. Provoked - I think this is over. The music single may release
or
just be confined to the movie alone, only Jag (the dir) knows.

  10. Chameli - Not much of news. Whether it has gone to floors or
not
is not yet confirmed. Dir is by Shyam Benegal and Urmila plays the
role of Chameli. I doubt whether I have got the name right..?!

This is as far as I am aware. Hope it's all covered. If not, do
  complete the list.

Also, someone mentioned WOHE movie BGM being used in a Chinese
movie.
I hope he is not talking about the Vijay TV promos for the film
they
aired: The Postman Fights Back. You know these guys use popular
Tamil songs or BGMs to great effect for their promos. I will give
you
  two more popular examples...

Ghajini's number: Oru maalai... was used for the promos of the
film
The Bourne Identity. Even in reality, Ghajini is heavily
inspired

Hi Mirza,

Thanks for the post..!

The info that Dil Se was NOT inspired is good to know.

Hats off to Vijay TV. They do well with this kinda stuff. I remember
some other promo where they used a DHOOL song for Jackie Chan movie.

I have a doubt...If the LOTR stage show itself begins this Feb (which
is 2006, right?), how come the music comes one year late??

I dont remember whether the Bombay Dreams CD came so late, did it??

Thanks again!
Chandra.

[arr] DIL SE...something new!

2005-11-27 Thread up84mouli
Dear Fanz

Recently, someone wrote about how new things are discovered every time
you listen to the master's masterpieces.

Just recently, I was putting both the Dil Se tracks (Hindi and Tamil)
one after the other in my playist and found something interesting.

1. The Tamil rendition by the master is somewhat sharp when compared
to the Hindi track. I dont know if this has to do with MP3 conversion.

2. The interlude (one of the BEST unparalleled in the entire TFM
till date) is a bit different in the Tamil version. It comes out sharp
and has some other wooden stick instrument mixed with the Guitar (Or
is it the Mandeline??). The sharpness makes me doubt more on the MP3
conversion...Please confirm.

3. This is not a difference. The ending effects deserve special
mention. Just like a buzzing bee shuttling through the left and right
ears. I think if there is a DTS 5.1 encoded version in the original
DVDs, this would drive you crazy..!!

Thanks and share such giggles and googles (findings) often.
Chandra.

[arr] Re: Ilayaraja: Popcorn and Food........pls stop

2005-11-17 Thread up84mouli
Hi Fanz,

Thanks to all those replies.

I was in some doubt whether he was targeting the fusion, western, and
the semi-classical kind of music, which was pop-ularized by Rahman in
a big way...and then later followed up by others thus leaving
classical music far behind. There 'were' times like that...

Now, after reading these posts, it is clear that he was referring
mostly to songs like Manmada Raasa and some other stuff which
neither had logic nor lyrical quality.

Rahman is way different...Even for a movie like Ah...Aah, he comes
up with scores which appeal to both the classes and masses to some extent.

Thats why he is loved and liked to some extent even by some of the
hardcore IR fanz (as far as I know).

One more thing in that show: YSR sung a song composed by IR along with
Karthik. He literally destroyed the song to such extent that IR joked
about it:

Hey, Why are you singing it as if it was YOUR song??

Also, Vaali seems to have run out of ideas when praising someone. It
was almost repetitive and the message was like the same he once said
about ARR earlier in Chennai concert...

Thanks again for the wonderful comments...It certainly helped..!
Chandra.

Hi to both Sudarsan and Krishna,

Thanks for your posts. It made me remember the song: Gala Gala vena

Once Sadhana Sargam said that it was one of her favorite songs and

I am sure there are many more such gems. Wedding Qawwali also comes

why it is tough to create such songs, it would be wonderful..!

Thanks for reading.

Re: [arr] ayaiyo song...

2005-09-14 Thread up84mouli
Hi guys...

Much of the listings may be true, but there is a point to be noted:

When other MDs copy a song or a part of it, *some* ARR fans say
blatant lift, copycat and all that whereas Rahman's little-little
copies are termed as: inspiration, resemblance, self-accepted
inspiration, raga similarity, time pressure,
producer/director/actor recommendation etc.

Some people have come up with this: there are only 7 ragas and some
resemblences cannot be avoided, so thats NOT copying and all that...

Is it not possible that the *copiers* faced none of the problems. It
might not be known to the outside world, but why do you discount the
possibility??

A good musician gets good films, good respect from the singers and
those who do business with them and his/her own personality. We should
try to take all those into account and pass neutral comments.

That way R D Burman, S D Burman, SEL etc. may not be that bad. Even
Mozart *lifted* a tune which was played in a Church and which was kept
secret so that no one else (other than those who come there)
experiences its devine bliss. But because Mozart *did* copy it and
distributed the notes, many people were able to enjoy it.

Was he right or wrong??

What would you say for Rahman's version of O saathi Re, tere bina bhi
kya jeena which was O Bhaavray...dekho in deewaanonko

If you know tamil very well, sing this: thanga padakkathin mele
(MSV's number for MGR film), which became one of Rahman's hits: Enna
viai azhagay. Any non-arr-fan would say: wow. good xerox technology!

There are some more examples of this kind of ___ (you can name
it), but one thing is for sure...

Rahman definitely is blessed with some kind of devine grace. Just like
many people say Sachin was *born to just play cricket*, many more
people will say Rahman was *born just 4 music*.

Thanks for reading.
Chandra.

[arr] Re: Do u feel other MDs have surpassed ARR?

2005-08-20 Thread up84mouli
HI Krishna...

Replying to this theory,

Such instances are abundant in History. They have bought about great
changes and each one of them underlined the very fact that Change is
the only universal constant.

For an example: Ramakrishna Paramahamsa was a great master and
Vivekananda was his best desciple. Both had their own artistic
methods of dealing with life and spiritualism.

Ramakrishna remained in India itself propogating his profound
knowledge and experience to his so called inner circle whereas
Vivekananda broke the boundaries and went to the U.S. to deliver
speeches on Hinduism, other religions, and the greatness of India as a
whole.

Vivekananda had a good deal of scientific knowledge and gave new
ideas on how to use it for the good of India. One of his famous ideas
is: To exchange the Indian Vedanta knowledge with the Scientific
methods of the west and to develop on both the fronts.

I think Ilayaraja and Rahman are somewhat similar when it comes to the
art of music composition and of living life, but when it comes to
the scientific part, they are worlds apart, just like the
above-mentioned duo..!

For instance we learn maths at school n college levels.A school
teacher teaches us Maths. He is very good at teaching n everybody is
amazed by his teaching abilities. One of his students finishes college
n takes up teaching in a more easy n understanding manner to the
surprise of his students whose standard gradually increases n
everybody starts recognising their value.
The new teacher gets offers from all over the world 2 to teach n he
accepts them n amazes the with his new techniques by breaking old
conventions.
In spite of a barrage of offers the new teacher hasn't shifted base
n continues 2 teach in his place n just goes for guest lectures abroad.

So whom do u think is more potent the teacher (IR) or the
student(ARR) who has dramatically changed the way the world views
Tamil music or Indian music at large.I just gave this wierd example
bcos u need view music with another perspective rather than itz glitz
or in terms of hits n flops.

And to reply to this oncoming segment...

If you think passing off Star, Parasuram, 1 2 ka 4, and such albums as
mere abberations, then whatever IR did that did not sell is also the
same. If you derive the ratio, ARR might be better, but that is
because IR had more numbers than did ARR. So naturally, it is bound to
have more abberations.

And for that matter ARR hasn't given 1 nasty stuff in any of his
films unlike IR who yields 2 his diectors pressure cos he has become
unsure of his future projects.A classic eg. may be Azhagi where there
is a 3rd rate nasty song amidst good ones which could have been so
easily avoided demeaning his strature of a so called genius. This is
not so with ARR cos he sets his own terms while composing n doesnt
yield 2 to the directors whims n fancies. In short only a responsible
filmmaker will approach ARR.There may be abberations like
Star,Parasuram but they only due to ARR's time constraints n busy
schedules.

If ARR leads even after the numbers become equal, it could be the
case of learning from someone's mistakes

Just My Views.
No offence intended.
Open to suggestions.

Thanks for reading.
Chandra.

Re: [arr] HT reviews Mangal Pandey; music continues to be pilloried

2005-08-15 Thread up84mouli
Hi Rawat, Hope you are fine.

It is director choice/ skill that is being criticised in the
above. MD gives a song asked by the director. How the
director then uses the song, and where, that has nothing to
 do with MD.

ARR could not have helped it in any way if holi song
 retarted the film unnecessarily.

YOU HIT THE BULL'S EYE

Holi song is more a failure of Javed Akhtar than of anyone
else. Every word and figures of speech used in this song are
 ages old.

LYRICS WERE MEANT TO BE AGES OLD. AROUND 150 YEARS OLD, TO BE
APPROXIMATE AT THE LEAST.

I haven't seen the film, but I think you meant that the Song lyrics
should have been in sync with the language that the characters speak.
If that had not been the case with this song, then you may be 150%
right..!

Or, as in your historic string of arguements around a month back,
the lyrics were too much periody compared to the non-period music
and so, they didnt mangal...oh sorry- mingle well giving the critics
something to mangle with...

There could be psychological reasons also. Normally people
expect to see a serious, all-business type of personality
for a larger than life hero like Mangal Pandey. Hence they
could not digest him enjoying small pleasures like playing
with colours in the comapny of gorgeous girls, all painted
 whimsically.

YES! I DID EXPECT SUCH A THING BEFORE THE D-DAY (12TH). BUT NOW AFTER
READING THE REVIEWS, I AM A BIT CONCERNED.

I HOPE THE ENGLISH VERSION IS PROPERLY SCISSORED. Whatever is the
case, I will make it someday to the theatres to witness the fictional
history.

Thanks for reading.
Chandra.

Re: [arr] :: Important regd T-shirts ::

2005-06-18 Thread up84mouli
Hi...

What about this word to describe ARR:

His music (this on the top)

Then comes the pic.

PRISTUNE (this comes at the bottom)

PRISTINE means undecayed or something in the actual or original form.
So, just modifying a letter, we get PRISTUNE, which means the TUNES in
the most original sense.

Just some more suggestions:
Color of the shirt: White (I know this would be rejected)
ARR UOL Pic: The Black one with outstreched hands.
Fonts for the ARR Tag: Bright Green (Matrix green, that is)
ARR Sig: Dark blue or just black.
Yahoo group name at the back with Yahoo symbol.

Do consider if possible.

Thanks for reading.
Chandra.

[arr] Re: ARRMUSIC! (a possible answer to spiteful badmouthing of ARR)

2005-05-30 Thread up84mouli
Hi Arijith...

I too remember this interview. But the only change is: The song was
not Bombay Theme but Tu Hi Re for which H Sridhar was trying to
remove dirt tracks from Hariharan's voice.

The reason could be that Mani disclosed the shooting situation and ARR
felt that since the beaches would always be salty, it is best to
retain the natural distortion in one's voice.

Also, one more thought. How come Bombay, Roja, or KM miss out on the
Top 100 movies list compiled by the Time mag crew??? Was Nayakan so
much better than these??? Could anybody (who has seen Nayakan)
provide more insights and probably compare it B, R, and KM?

Thanks for reading.
Chandra.

[arr] Re: a r rahman-vijay ??..dr.dev

2005-05-30 Thread up84mouli
Hi fanz.

The actual reason for lack of ARR-Vijay combo maybe the Udhaya
debacle. I feel that this combo would not work. Even if it works once
or maybe twice, it will not keep up.

Just look at the recent movies from both. Vijay's type of movies are
like Image-Creating, Hero worship kinda stuff. They have an item
number, a Dappanguthu type song. As for the roles, they are like
stereotypes. Nothing different. Lots and lots of Masala-Bajjis, only
good for occassional time-pass.

On the other hand, ARR has concentrated on serious type of movies
which require music straight from the heart. Even though I am hopeless
about Godfather (because Ajith is almost same as Vijay), I am looking
forward to Aa Aah, The Rising, Water, and two more in Rang De
Basanti, LOTR at the year-end or early next...

What do you feel??

Thanks for reading.
Chandra.

[arr] UOL Pic Wanted...

2005-05-24 Thread up84mouli
Hi Fanz.
Good day to all of you.

I need the UOL Concert Pic, the one where ARR is 'pic'ced from the
back with hands outstreched in black outfit.

I need the 1024x768 (800x600 will also be fine) version so it fits my
desktop background. Please upload it on the FTP. If already there,
please tell me the filename.

Also, one thing regd the T-SHIRT. You can make a quick one yourself if
you have. And thats one more reason I want the pic badly.

a. A T-Shirt,
b. A Pic of your choice.
c. Iron-On Transfer Paper.

You have to print the pic from somewhere onto that Iron-On Transfer
paper and then IRON it on to the T-Shirt. As simple as that.

At the least, it makes for a cheaper (low quality) option before you
guys decide on the better version.

Thanks for reading.

Warm regards.
Chandra.

2005-03-28 Thread up84mouli

Hi All,

Just simple questions. Donno if it has already come up.

1. How many Tamil Albums has ARR scored so far?
2. How many Hindi Albums?

Exclude complete dubs and also the multi-composed albums.

Thanks for reading.
Chandra.
